was hit by a heavy rainstorm friday night. that storm caused flooding and also turned the entire area into a giant mud pit that's preventing vehicles from moving in or out. the festival is attended by tens of thousands of people every year and is meant to be a gathering of artists and community organizers from around the world. despite the difficult conditions this year, though, one attendee told me many people are trying to make the best of the situation. we're just kind of relying on each other. we're bringing, you know, refugees into the camp, giving them water, giving them beer, whatever they need to kind of ride this out. aren't aren't expected to improve anytime soon , though, as more rain is set to hit the area over this weekend. there's also no estimate of when festival goers might be able to actually leave. some of them are being told they might be stuck there until at least tuesday. we'll have more on the conditions at burning man later tonight during our 11:00 newscast. but for now, i'm in the newsroom. tim johns, abc seven news. tough situation for a lot of people. thank you, tim. in the east bay, part of westbound i-80 is closed for all of labor day weekend for

repaving from hercules to vallejo lanes are shut down between interstate 780 and highway four. that includes the carquinas bridge, the detour is in green on this map. drivers should take 782 680, then highway four back to 80. abc7 news reporter cornell bernard has a progress check on the work and a look at the big impact on traffic. no holiday weekend for these caltrans workers. they're on the job repaving a five mile stretch of westbound i-80 from vallejo to state route four in hercules right now we're compressing 106 nights of work into four four holiday days. and nights. caltrans says so far the major project is on schedule. this is a big milestone for the westbound carquinez bridge. it has not been closed since the bridge opened 20 years ago. so the bridge actually got to take th day off. there was an extensive detour in place around the work and on saturday, traffic backups were not far

behind. ridiculous just ridiculous traffic. i mean, armando is heading home to pittsburgh. normally it takes me about 35 minutes to get home from here. it's going to take me about an hour today. so that's a that's a pain in the butt. so this was the backup on the benicia bridge and check out this ride on westbound highway 37. it took us 20 minutes to go one mile. everywhere you go. so you can't go anywhere without getting into some kind of congestion. caltrans says it shows labor day weekend for the project because traditionally there's less traffic heading westbound. so if you can if you're driving back from sacramento sierra, take the benicia bridge or you can also take the richmond-san rafael bridge. but many drivers are happy the road is being repaved . cindy frazier says it's a mess. potholes and the lanes weren't clear at and there wasn't even enough room in the in the lanes. caltrans says i-80 is on track to reopen 5 a.m. tuesday in vallejo. cornell bernard, abc seven news. a takedown on the sidelines of a

on the peninsula, san mateo. woman says her two sons sold their toys today to raise funds for fire victims in maui. 13 year old leonardo and ten year old nicolo felice say they want to give back. they wanted to sell their toys to raise money for wildfire relief efforts. so the family held a garage sale today. well, it's really sad about the fires burning down pretty much the whole town. and i felt bad for the people. so, too, we made about over $550. so i was really surprised to see a lot of people come over and we receive a lot of money for lahaina surf, hilo and stitch that when he says no one gets left behind and mark heads the village, a family visited the island earlier this summer. the boys say they felt a connection with and gratitude for maui. we are getting some much milder weather across the bay area this weekend, taking a live look outside. we are in for a bright and mild labor day. then weather
8:23 pm
changes set into motion. what we can expect ahead in the accuweather forecast
8:24 pm
8:25 pm
we welcome back. i'm here with weather anchor spencer christian and it's the holiday weekend. spencer it wasn't i wouldn't say the best forecast for the whole weekend but hopefully things get better. well you know we had lots of clouds. yeah a little spotty drizzle here and there and as much cooler than average for this time of the year. so it's not your typical labor day weekend weather. however it is going to get brighter and a little milder over the next couple of days. you can see on our satellite radar composite images, upper level, this low pressure system centered over the northern california coast and the circulation around that low, that counterclockwise, counterclockwise circulation is bringing some moisture up into locations to our east and locations to our north. very little of this shower activity is hitting the bay area, but some spots have received some shower activity. right now we're looking at mainly mild wind flow onshore and it's warmer by several degrees right across
8:26 pm
most of the bay area than at this time last night. about 3 to 8 degrees warmer. so it's mild at nighttime, although our daytime temperatures have been below average. here's a view from sutro tower looking out over san francisco is 64 degrees here in the city right now. we have upper 60s at oakland and mountain view 70 at san jose, 68 palo alto and 63 at half moon bay. nice view from emeryville. looking back at the city and there are some clouds off in the distance there. but this is a nice clear view for now. it is 67 degrees in santa rosa, nevada, 68, low 70s at napa, fairfield and concord and 70 degrees at livermore. and finally, a view from our rooftop camera looking across the embarcadero. these are our forecast headlines. mostly cloudy overnight. there'll be some areas of drizzle. clouds will linger tomorrow, although a little bit more sunshine tomorrow than we had today. and there's still a chance of some isolated showers tomorrow. it'll be cooler than average through the labor day weekend, but we'll see a little bit more sunshine and a little bit of a warm up on monday. so overnight look for clouds continuing to flow
8:27 pm
through the bay area. maybe a spotty shower here and there. not very widespread. and if we do get any rain at all, any measurable rain, we're talking about only maybe a couple of hundredths of an inch. so not a not a wet night coming our way, but a mild one and a cloudy one with overnight low temperatures ranging from mid 50s at the coast to mainly about 60 right around the bay shoreline. we'll have some low 60s in the inland east bay up in the north bay. we'll see our coolest area during the overnight hours with low temperatures mainly in the mid or mid to upper 50s. then tomorrow's highs 64 half moon bay, 69 and san francisco. most locations around the bay shoreline tomorrow will warm only into the low or low to mid 70s. even inland areas generally upper 70s tomorrow usually september 3rd, you'll see high temperatures inland at least in the mid 80s. so here's the accuweather seven day forecast. labor day, it gets sunnier and a little bit milder. we'll see some mid 80s inland mid 70s around the bay shoreline. then there will be a gradual warm up going through the middle of the week. finally later in the week, thursday, friday, we'll see inland highs in a more seasonal
8:28 pm
range. upper 80s around the inland areas mid 70s around the bay shoreline and by next weekend it'll be a little bit warmer and all through the week we can expect mainly sunny skies. karina all right, spencer, thank you. tonight on abc7 news at 11. check this out . you're going to if you're going to go for a drive and then a meteorologist, a meteor streaks across the sky. it's pretty crazy, right where this amazing light show happened and could artificial intelligence help predict how wildfires act? what one bay area university learned through a study that is tonight on abc7 news at 11. a meteor, huh? have you ever experienced that? i have, yeah, but i thought you were going to say a meteorologist was streaking. that's what i was going to. that's what i had in my head. but i did too. i'm meteorologist going across the sky. yes, i've seen the meteors and they're pretty exciting to see. they are, as are
