11:02 pm
newsroom. and tim, you spoke to someone who's stuck in that mess. what are they telling you? >> yeah, karina, that's absolutely right. i did talk with one santa cruz man who is currently stuck at the festival this evening. he says the conditions aren't great. as you can imagine, attendees are being asked to conserve food and water as they shelter in place in the middle of the desert. >> we all slept all night with no house music, bumping everything. thing stopped because of that. >> viral videos from social media showing the situation unfolding at burning man. >> and we're pretty flooded right now. roads are completely closed. cars can't make it in or out. >> thousands in attendance at the annual festival held in the nevada desert are stranded after heavy rainfall turned the area into a giant mud pit. the situation so bad that cars are unable to drive through, forcing federal and local county officials to shut down the main entrance. with nowhere to go, many festival goers who have reception are turning to the internet to vent their frustration options. >> i think the biggest issue
11:03 pm
right now is that the porta-potty service trucks can't make it down the road and service the porta potties. so porta potties are filling up and people are getting a little desperate. >> the festival was meant to be a gathering of artists and community organizers from around the world. david daetz from santa cruz has been going for the past seven years. he says some people are adapting better than others. >> it's a total mix. a lot of people are kind of just shut up in their in their rvs, but there's other people out here interacting and having a good time. gamble well, dabble. >> more rain is expected to hit the area over the weekend, potentially making the problem even worse. festival officials are asking people to conserve of food and water. >> so we're just kind of relying on each other. we're bringing, you know, refugees into the camp, giving them water, giving them beer, whatever they need to kind of ride this out. >> despite the difficult conditions, daetz says one of the festival's core principles is self-reliance. so while no one might have predicted this, he says many are prepared. >> this truly is a challenging
11:04 pm
event. i refer to it as a survival school. we come out here, we have to do whatever we have to do to survive these elements and unpredictable conditions. >> as of now, there is no time frame for when people might be able to actually leave. some say they're being told it could be as late as tuesday in the newsroom. tim johns, abc7 news. >> tim, thank you. let's get to spencer christian for a look at the weather and what a mess there in the nevada desert. spencer are they going to get a break at all? >> well, they'll get a little bit of a break. karina but not much. let me give you a look at the live doppler seven and our composite satellite and radar image over the last 12 hours. you can see this counterclockwise circulation that's a low pressure system centered actually over the northern california coast. but look at what it's doing to that part of nevada. it's kicking up lots of showers and thunderstorms and rain. thus the muddy conditions in that location of black rock city. even here in california, northern california, we've got areas of showers, not so much here in the bay area. i'll give you a closer look, but you can see over in the central valley,
11:05 pm
up into this area and north of ukiah, there's a lot of shower activity being triggered by this low pressure system. now, for us here in the bay area, overnight , things will look like this. we'll see clouds passing by throughout the overnight hours into the early morning. little scattered showers here and there. no measurable rain is likely here in the bay area, but not much relief is in sight over the next 24 hours. over in nevada, i'll have our accuweather seven day forecast in a few minutes. karina >> all right spencer, thanks. a takedown on the sidelines of a local high school football game. now a former teacher is facing charges this was the scene last night at heritage high school in brentwood. officers say when they approached former teacher carlos hurtado, he ran away. police say the former teacher was asked to leave by the principal. hurtado was charged with disrupting school activities and trespassing and obstruction. he recently separated from the district in a social media post on his page, says he was forced to resign. new details. the vallejo police department is postponing a town hall meeting about their response to alarm calls. it was

areas. a four degrees warmer right now, san carlos than at this time last night. here's the view from sutro tower looking out over san francisco. we have lots of mid level and high level clouds. but here at the surface, we're looking at a clear view at least, if not a clear sky. 63 degrees in san francisco right now. we have 66 at oakland mountain view and palo alto, san jose, 68 and 61 at half moon bay . a nice view from emeryville looking back along the bay bridge toward san francisco, 65 in santa rosa right now. novato 64 we have 68 at napa. fairfield and concord and 64 degrees at livermore and our rooftop camera gives us a nice calm view or view of calm conditions. looking across the embarcadero. these are our forecast headlines. mostly cloudy overnight. they'll be times of maybe some patchy drizzle. isolated showers are possible, but it will not be widespread clouds linger tomorrow. still a chance of some isolated showers tomorrow, but they won't be again, not very widespread. and we can expect sunny or milder conditions on labor day. now the forecast animation overnight looks like this. lots of clouds passing

through, many of them high clouds, mid-level clouds. and it looks like most of the precipitation associated with this circulation will be well to our east. over in the sierra foothills, maybe some in the central valley. but by tomorrow afternoon, notice we could have a little breakout of showers in the north bay in the far north bay, north of santa rosa. most of the bay area, though, will see at least some partial clearing in the afternoon tomorrow. overnight low temperatures will be mainly in the upper 50s to low 60s highs tomorrow, mid 60s at the coast, low to mid 70s around the bay shoreline, mainly upper 70s inland. so fairly pleasant day, but much, much cooler than average for september third, which is what tomorrow's date is . here's the accuweather seven day forecast and you can see it starts to get a little bit warmer on monday, which is labor day, mid 80s and mid 70s around the bay and it'll be a lot sunnier and we can expect a steady but rather gradual increase in temperature as going into the middle of the week, which i think is a good thing as opposed to a sudden jump up in temperatures. right. by next

the rare weather that we're seeing. you know, it's pretty rare here because it's so much cooler than average for this time of the year. i mean, it's labor day weekend. and here here's our forecast animation showing all the clouds that will be passing through the area overnight, producing some north. but it doesn't look like the bay area will really get any measurable rain out of this and we'll start to get some partial clearing in the afternoon hours tomorrow. we expect a sunnier day. however on monday, which is actually labor day. so did i say memorial day earlier? if i did, i meant labor day. we know it's a holiday. low temperatures will range from upper 50s to lower 60s. highs tomorrow mid 60s at the coast to low and mid 70s around the bay to only upper 70s inland. that's way below average for this time of the year. but notice on monday, labor day, i'll say that again. labor day it'll be sunnier and warmer with inland highs in the mid 80s and then through the remainder of the week we'll see a gradual increase in temperatures. by the time we get to next weekend, it'll feel like summer all over again. so for the monday cookouts, it should be good, should be fine. sunny and bright
