9:20 am
today starting at 1030 from scottish games to other labor day festivities. frances is tracking how long the clouds are going to be sticking around for . good morning. >> yeah, we're seeing so many clouds and i wanted to show you live doppler seven looping for the past three hours. there's this area of low pressure just off to our north and it's been there since yesterday. now, this is going to bring some rain to the sierra, even some thunderstorms to south lake tahoe. and i want to move over to nevada. look at all these thunderstorms heading up towards black rock. so they're going to get more rain for burningman. in fact, numerous lightning strikes, about 76 that are going to make their way. and there could be heavy rain as those thunderstorms move through from sutro tower. we're seeing a low clouds right now over san francisco and temperatures have cooled down in san francisco. it's 58 degrees now in oakland, 63, mountain view in san jose, 66. also palo alto, half moon bay, though, in the 50s with the cloud cover and in san jose, it's also gray skies this morning. some areas, though, are
9:21 am
warming up where we're going to get more sunshine earlier on like fairfield, concord already in the mid 60s livermore 64, santa rosa at 60 degrees right now and this time from mount tam. we're seeing bits of blue out there. we're seeing some high level clouds and we also have that stratus coming in from the with the marine layer. so here's what you need to know for today. the clouds linger. we still have the chance of isolated showers, but we're only talking about a 10 to 15% chance, mostly cloudy again overnight with drizzle possible, especially near the beaches. and then it's going to be sunnier for labor day. so that's better news. temperatures will warm up slightly inland. and here's a forecast animation. so this morning, we'll start to see some breaks in the cloud cover. and then this afternoon, we'll get some more breaks for the inland areas. but notice the clouds. stick around a lot. during the coast in the north bay, we could see another pop up shower there indicated by the green, some light rain showers at best. then tomorrow morning, we'll wake up
9:22 am
with extensive, widespread low clouds. once again, we could see some drizzle along the beaches, maybe a little bit farther inland. and then look at how much more sunshine we get all over the north bay, east bay and most of the south bay. and that will allow temperatures to warm up. but for today, highs will be similar to yesterday's numbers. so that means at the beaches in the 60s around the bay, really comfortable, low to mid 70s and then some upper 70s for the warmest spots. santa rosa will be 76 really comfortable. 77 in livermore, san francisco, 69. oakland 72. san jose 75 degrees. tonight's lows will drop into the mid 50s to upper 50s. san francisco, 56. the cooler spots will be in the north bay like santa rosa at 54 degrees. now here's a look ahead for tomorrow . so at the beaches, it'll still be cool because of a stronger sea breeze coming from the northwest. but some inland areas might get as warm as the mid 80s around the bay will still see
9:23 am
lots of 70s and that's really quite comfortable. so here's the accuweather seven day forecast, a very slight chance of an isolated shower and then temperatures are a little bit milder inland tomorrow with more sunshine for labor day. but notice at the coast we hold things pretty steady almost all week long. and then by the middle of the week we'll get more sunshine. temperatures will be closer to average and then warmer for next weekend. >> yeah, i see that especially saturday. >> yeah. yeah, it'll be a good weekend, but for tomorrow, good barbecue weather, as you pointed out, it'll be weather and i actually weather with sunnier. sunnier. yes i actually like the cooler weather, especially for inland areas. it's more comfortable, though. it is a bit cloudy. >> yeah. good to know. well, a reminder that you can watch all our newscasts live and on demand through the abc7 bay area connected tv app. it's available for apple tv google tv, amazon fire tv and roku. you can download the app now and start streaming. we'll be right back.

9:27 am
ripening of the grapes than some of our sparkling wine producing neighbors here who are harvesting right now. it's the 199th vintage which chris, his wife, robin, is the executive director of the sonoma valley vintners and growers alliance. >> she says the cool start to the year delayed grapes from blooming. she expects the harvest to last into november and everyone's ready to get to work. >> and also thinking how far into the holidays will we be picking? >> despite the delay, they aren't expecting much fallout, she says growers will still be employed in the fall, helping pick grapes and the delay should not affect the quality of the wine. >> some of these late harvests have actually yielded incredible wines, so historically speaking , we're looking forward to matching that. >> they say the rain will actually benefit the valley in years to come. >> you know, we're looking at the green grape vines behind us. they are dependent on water. so more water, the better. there's of course, a line where it's too much, but we haven't we haven't really hit that hot and dry weather the last few years.
9:28 am
>> cool and wet weather this year. i asked him, how do they jump through these ongoing hurdles when it comes to weather? they say it takes team efforts at every single winery to be able to overcome and produce good wine. and when it comes to the heat like we're experiencing today, they say they have their wine pickers go out in the morning to assess the grapes before the hot weather arrives in sonoma. ryan curry, abc seven news. >> well, still to come on abc seven mornings, a stormy scene in nevada. authorities now reporting one death at the famous burning man festival. we have an update on the muddy conditions as tens of thousands of people are sheltering in place. we'll be right back. migraine strikes you, brelvi is another option. >> it quickly stops migraine in its tracks. do not take with strong cyp3a4 inhibitors allergic reactions to you brelvi can happen. most common side effects were nausea and sleepiness. ask about you brelvi the anytime anywhere migraine medicine. >> direct tv sports central gives you access to every game, but terry doesn't have direct

9:33 am
enough to allow vehicles to leave safely. are people anxious to get out? >> i'm sure that there are some people that are anxious, but but when you come out here, you kind of come out with an idea that you really don't know what to expect. that's part of what think brings a lot of us out here. and while it's obviously not convenient, it's also kind of what we signed up for. and i think there's also a very, um, a there's a large awareness amongst a lot of us that, you know, when you have to walk through a new obstacle or an experience, you often come out on the other side with some wonderful new lesson or just feeling stronger in life in general. so i think we're all kind of keeping that mentality about us because we know that after all of this is over, we're still going to probably look back on it as one of our favorite experience as ever. >> well, speaking of that strength, we've seen lots of videos of fellow burners banding together. >> how are people preparing for another round of showers
9:34 am
expected? >> well, about as well as we can, making sure we all have food and water and, you know, tightening our our tarps around our tents and or moving into someone else's tent who's offered if our tents are wet. my tent just started to leak a little last night, but not too bad. and i have a camp mate who is already said, you're welcome to move in here if you need to. you know, um, really just kind of staying present and taking care of ourselves as much as we can while also being a really good time for you and your fellow burners. >> jamila to hang in there. thank you for being with us. >> thank you. >> all right. well, four years ago now, 34 people aboard a dive boat died off the coast of santa barbara. now, investigators are revealing why, according to the los angeles times, investigators say the fire started in a plastic trash can on the main deck. authorities actually had to build a full scale mock up of
9:35 am
the middle deck of the conception to figure out exactly the origin and cause of the flames after a series of burn tests, they found it was set off in the trash and spread quickly, trapping all the passengers below deck. the captain was charged with 34 counts of manslaughter, with prosecutors saying he did not follow safety regulations. another sag-aftra strike. well, it's possible this time against video game companies. the union announced it will vote on a possible second strike ahead of negotiations that are scheduled to resume later this month. they also say talks reached a deadlock and the union must continue to advocate for pay raises and protection from. i sag-aftra is asking for an 11% retroactive pay bump for video game performers and a three year contract. this of course, follows the ongoing strikes against film makers and tv studios. the union also represents tv news anchors and reporters, including us. i want to take you outside for a live look now from our abc7 oakland
