morgan norwood in for rhiannon. and we begin with the monsoon rains that are swamping the southwest and stranding 70,000 people in a muddy mess. >> a mass exodus from the burning man festival in the nevada desert could get underway this morning when the roads are expected to reopen and at least one person is dead after the heavy downpours left, the campgrounds covered in mud and forced revelers to shelter in place all weekend. >> and this morning, tens of thousands of people are trapped at burning man. officials telling those attending the annual county culture festival held in rural nevada 100 miles from the nearest airport sought to conserve food, water and gas after monsoon rains made roads out of the festival impassable. >> we're out here with a solid group of veteran burners and we've never seen anything like this. >> the local sheriff's office says it's investigate a death that occurred during the heavy rains, but no details have been given on this weather. making a mess across the state. in las

just in time for a scheduled performance. and the main event, the burning of a 40 foot effigy. now scheduled to take place tonight. and at another festival, hundreds of fans stormed the entrance in new york last night after they were turned away. >> despite having tickets, they crashed through security barriers of the electric zoo festival. when organizers announced they had reached capacity and no more people would be let in, there was a buildup because of ticket holders. after day, one of the event was canceled on friday. >> well, turning now to the race for the white house, where former president donald trump is running far ahead of the pack, trump has widened his lead in the republican primary. all of this amid his mounting legal problems as abc's em. nguyen joins us now from washington with the latest. good morning, jim. >> good morning. morgan yeah, labor day is traditionally a big campaigning weekend for presidential candidates in new hampshire, notably absent from any public events is the republican frontrunner, donald trump. a new poll in the wall street journal shows trump in increasing his lead over the

republican field, drawing support from 59% of gop voters. the poll was taken after trump was indicted for a fourth time over the weekend in new hampshire. political newcomer vivek ramaswami pledged to pardon trump if he's elected. ramaswami also said he would vote for trump if he wins the nominee. >> i will pick who i believe the best next president should be. i'm in this race because i believe i can lead us forward and reunite this country. but if it's not me as the nominee, i still expect that donald trump or whoever the republican nominee is will be better than the alternative. and i care about what actually moves this nation forward. that's why i'm in this race. >> candidates still have several weeks to qualify for the next republican debate, which is set for later this month. morgan and wen from washington. >> and thank you. >> now overseas to the war in ukraine and what some are calling a game changer for ukraine's forces. armor piercing ammunition from the united states. sources confirmed the us will likely send ukraine

provide a clear reason why he shot smith. now to the manhunt for a convicted killer after he escaped from prison. >> authorities in one community outside philadelphia are telling people to lock their doors after the man was seen on surveillance video. abc's derrick dennis has the details this morning. >> a massive manhunt in the air and on the ground for pennsylvania prison escapee danilo cavalcante on the run since he broke out of the chester county prison last thursday morning. at the time considered extremely dangerous. >> remain inside. lock your doors, lock your cars. >> authorities say cavalcante escaped exactly one week after he was sentenced to life without parole for the stabbing death of his ex girlfriend, deborah brandao, 38 times in front of her two young children. the search focusing on a rural residential area in suburban pocopson township, about 38 miles southwest of philadelphia and about a mile and a half from the prison. it's where investigators believe he's

hiding out. >> it's a heavily wooded area consisting of over 271 homes and it's not easy for our investigators to get through. >> cavalcante was last seen early saturday on a home surveillance camera tiptoeing through someone's backyard. this was his last spotting, though authorities say there were more than 100 tips related to his possible whereabouts, including a number of home break ins that cavalcante may have carried out. >> i just can't believe it. and i really hope that they catch him soon. i hope everybody's paying attention and locking their doors and staying alert. >> prison officials say they're still investigating how cavalcante escape apt, but they don't believe he had any help in that surveillance video. he was seen with a backpack, though authorities say they don't know how he got it or what's in it. andrew morgan in derrick, thank you. >> well 79 million miles in nearly 3000 orbits later, nasa's latest mission came to an end this morning as the space capsule endeavor flashed across the sky at 17,000mph, just after

the cause of jimmy buffett's death. buffett died on friday years after beginning a battle against a rare form of skin cancer. were it not a san francisco for the labor day weekend show. it's been 50 years since jimmy buffett wrote come monday a song about missing the woman who would become his wife as he headed out for a labor day weekend concert. she told me. i've been missing you so good. and this labor day weekend, a tribute band performing that very song in his honor on long island. it's an end of an era paradise. >> heads are really going to be suffering. >> buffett's biggest fans, known as parrot heads, saying goodbye to the margaritaville maestro who died friday at the age of 76. >> we love jimmy. we breathe jimmy. jimmy, i know, touched a lot of lives. definitely touched my life. he was just a beautiful soul man. >> key west, florida, a place he helped define more than 2500, taking part in a parade held in
