monday, september fourth. happy labor day to you all. >> we're going to start with the check of traffic with jobina. >> yeah. okay. so there's a couple of things we need to talk about right now. we'll bring in the graphics. we have a crash. we're following in orinda at the moment. it was causing a minor slowdown. isn't the counter commute direction eastbound 24 before gateway boulevard, our biggest issue is going to be this closure. all lanes on westbound 80 between 780 and vallejo and state route four in hercules i was in this mess coming from nap napa yesterday. so just a heads up that that is still in place until tomorrow at 5 a.m. and emeryville very light right now of course is labor day. so we don't expect a lot of traffic, but we do have that closure that we'll be talking about all morning long as we in here with a live look at the san mateo bridge. hey, drew. >> hey, jobina. we'll take you to the tam cam this morning and we will start out with some low level fog. you can see it's patchy. some of the city lights breaking through, some of that low cloud cover. but labor day itself is going to be the nicest day of the holiday weekend.

we'll get some warmer temperatures in here. more in the way of sunshine right now. our numbers are coming in in the mid 50s to the low 60s. early on this morning. so here's future weather. you can see our marine layer first thing this morning. it'll break down pretty fast throughout the afternoon. we do expect sunny skies, even partly sunny skies along the coastline. and later on today, temperatures get a little bit closer to average for this time of the year, the weekend. so far has been a bit below average. we'll start to see those numbers into the mid and upper 80s in our warmest spots away from the coast, upper 60s in the city, 73 in oakland, 79. that high in san jose, carmassi. >> thank you, drew. developing news tens of thousands of people are trapped in nevada's black rock desert at the burning man festival this morning. heavy rain over the weekend turned the festival site into a really thick and muddy mess. local authorities are confirming at least one person has died. jobina is tracking the latest from the live desk. jobina >> thank you, carmassi. the white house says they're closely monitoring the situation on the playa. the last update from burning man came around 630 last

night at that time, they said the roads were still too wet and muddy to open the roads. what they do plan to open at some point today, say the pershing county sheriff's office confirms that one person has died and the cause of death is unclear and still under investigation this morning, burners sheltered in place all weekend because of monsoon rains that hit the area. the black rock desert is in an ancient lakebed. and when it rains, the dust turns into a sticky, thick mud. that makes it difficult to walk and pretty much impossible to drive. only a few people have been able to leave. >> we have found thousands of people that are trying to leave right now. so it's kind of like a mass exodus. >> and we got trapped in the mud and everything was shut down and getting out was a nightmare for the conditions. >> forced organizers to cancel the burning of the huge burning man effigy last night. they say it will burn. they say it will burn this evening. and organizers say they plan to have

another update for attendees by 9:00 this morning. so close we will be watching that very closely. gloria >> all right. thank you so much, jobina. well, some people are making it out of the desert so hazard of san francisco shared this video with abc7. she got to reno and stopped at an in-n-out. and one look at her boots and some of the people in the restaurant gives you an idea of the situation that everybody was in. they are absolutely covered in mud, she thought about staying but was running low on supplies. she says their rv was stuck in the mud for six hours over the weekend. but this will not stop them from going back to the festival in the future. >> heads up. if you're traveling through san francisco, this week, road closures start today for streets surrounding moscone center, all in preparation for one of the biggest tech events happening this week, dreamforce. but the year could be the last that the city is hosting this conference. abc seven news reporter ryan curry live in san francisco with the details on this. hi ryan.

>> yeah, carmassi. good morning. ceo marc benioff said he will relocate the event next year if the homelessness and drug use continues to affect the ongoing convention. of course, we know this convention brings tens of thousands to san francisco every single year. this comes as another major tech event has has also announced they will be leaving the city. google's next cloud, next convention will be held in las vegas next year. that event was held in person for the first time following the pandemic. san francisco has been in a court battle with the coalition on homelessness about clearing encampments. a judge has currently blocked san francisco from clearing encampments. city attorney david chu says they will have to resolve this in court. so they have to move the city forward when it comes to solving the homelessness issue. >> mr. benioff's comments, unfortunately highlight how important it is for us to resolve this injunction in a way that allows us to provide shelter and services, but also

maintain healthy and clean streets. we have to do this as everyone is suffering. no backtracking from the actual definition. >> there are 4000 people who are outside right now because they do not have access to shelter. >> the attorney for the homelessness coalition says that is what they are presenting to the court. they say the city is not making real offers when it comes to offering shelter for thousands of people on the streets right now. and of course, this is something that has to get sorted out in court. and while they do that, the threat of dreamforce leaving is still a possibility. we're live in san francisco. ryan curry, abc7 news. >> all right, ryan, thank you so much. an oakland store owner is demanding city leaders do something to protect the community after a brazen burglary. surveillance video from friday night shows a group rolling up to smoke right gift shop on bancroft avenue. and watch what happens next. a bunch of them get out and they make their way to the steel bars in front of the business. the group then starts shaking it, trying to pry it off so they can get inside. and while this is going

on, at least one of the masked crooks is standing watch with a long gun. it took them about three minutes before they're able to bust down the bay area. oakland police say they are investigating and they also say they have gotten similar reports about other break ins like that in the neighborhood. >> and this morning, a chp motorcycle officers recovering in the hospital after a car hit him in san francisco. it happened just after three yesterday afternoon at third and harrison streets. both the officer and the driver of the vehicle involved had to be taken to the hospital and they're both expected to be okay. person and third, we have a motor down. >> he's gone through some breathing. >> the cause of the crash is under investigation. >> happening now, a reminder for anyone who's labor day. plans include a commute through the vallejo area. caltrans is working on a major repaving project that has shut down a stretch of interstate 80. work on the westbound and i-80 between i-70 80in vallejo and highway four. and hercules is

with unsafe staffing and the covid pandemic. >> nearly 30 bears in the tahoe area have been killed by vehicles in just seven weeks. abc7 news reporter tara campbell reports. the increasing number is turning into a call to action . >> it's literally been carnage and it's only escalating and bryant is the executive director of the bear league, a nonprofit working to protect the tahoe region's beloved bears. >> we're just, you know, holding our breath, thinking, how can it get any worse? >> but then it does. >> a few weeks ago, we reported about 20 bears being struck and killed by vehicles. within just a five week period since i talked to you. >> we've had several more bears that have been hit, killed, injured. >> she says 15 more bears have been hit. eight killed. the others injured. in this video, you can see bear cubs limping along. >> we have cubs that are injured and their mother is trying to

take care of them. we've got a mother that's back badly injured and she's got two cubs that are fine. we can't even find her anymore. >> all this capturing the attention of the city of south lake tahoe. the city putting up these flashing warning signs ahead of the long weekend. >> it was discussed having signs as you're entering tahoe, kind of the gateway of the city, notifying visitors about wildlife in the areas and to take it slow. >> they decided they wanted signage and asked us what our preference be. the lit up signs or just the little triangular signs that say bear crossing as well. i think the lit up signs call more attention to it. >> and she says people have been responding to these signs. >> we had a lot of comments from people on that and we told them south lake tahoe city did this and we're so proud of them. >> and the city is also planning to put up more permanent signs identifying best location. >> it's interesting about the

bay today is the last day of the annual ardenwood rail fair in fremont, abc7 news was at the ardenwood rail museum as thousands of visitors enjoy train rides, operated model trains and they were able to see the historic railroad displays. the proceeds from the fair go toward train restoration projects. also railroad track construction. >> our museum's goal is, which is to manage, restore and 19th century wooden, narrow gauge railroad carts from california nearby. why is our train ride, which is a powered by a diesel locomotive and will take you back on a loop? back in the back area of the park and you can see our shops complex and some equipment on display there. >> the fair runs from 10 to 4. there is food, music and plenty of activities for the entire family. this labor day weekend is san jose brewery has released a solid airy ale. >> this is in support of former anchor brewing company employees

starting today, road closures will be in effect around moscone center for dreamforce. the event is expected to bring 40,000 people to the city, but the future of the conference is up in the air. abc seven news reporter ryan curry is live in san francisco right now to explain. good morning, ryan. >> yeah, gloria, good morning. ceo marc benioff said he will look elsewhere to relocate the convention if the homeless mess and drug use are rampant near the convention right now, san francisco is in an ongoing legal battle with the coalition on homelessness that is currently delaying any efforts to clean up a lot of the homeless encampments and get people in to a shelter. city attorney david hughes says they reached an agreement with the coalition, saying the city can enforce laws against someone who refuses a shelter being offered to them. he says the coalition then backtracked, saying they didn't want that put in writing. dreamforce brings tens of thousands of people to san francisco each year. it is a big boost to the city's economy, chu

says they are hoping a judge rules on the matter soon. a lawyer for the coalition says thousands don't have a place to go. >> wouldn't commit to these things in writing. so we had to inform the ninth circuit that the conversations were not fruitful. and they're going to have to rule on these issues. >> the city offers housing to somebody who's on house and that person refuses to get housing. >> yes. then they are permitted to be enforced against right now , that's exactly what we were presenting to the ninth circuit, that very few people are in that boat because the city isn't actually making real offers of shelter for. >> this comes as google announced they will move their conference to las vegas next year. that event was held in person for the first time in the pandemic, bringing a lot of people to san francisco. but that one relocating to las vegas later on. and now the future remains of what's going to happen to dreamforce in the years to come as we wait for this ongoing king battle in court to finalize. we're live in san francisco, ryan curry, abc seven news.

>> thank you, ryan. another incident involving cruise vehicles and first responders in san francisco, a firefighters report says two stalled cruise robotaxis blocked an ambulance in august carrying a patient with life threatening injuries to the hospital. that patient was hit by a car near seventh and harrison streets and later died at the hospital. the report attributes the delay caused by the cruise cars to the, quote, poor patient outcome. cruise has disputed the firefighters report the fire department is still investigating regarding how long those cars were stopped and how long long the ambulance was delayed. >> parts of yosemite national park are closed because of cracks in a cliffside and the super slide climbing route is shut down after a giant crack was seen in the nearby royal arches. cliff it's located just below north dome and above yosemite valley, which is the most popular area of the park. they believe a major rockfall could happen and have a geologist monitoring the scene.
