but mud that symbolized is what they went through. nicole gaetz says they were on the opposite side of the camp at black rock city when the rain started friday. >> we left the bikes there. we didn't even take them back because of the mud. we couldn't get there. we couldn't get to take them back. so we have no bikes. >> this was one of those electric bikes stuck in the mud on saturday morning at burning man. >> this is probably with some of it cleaned up. it's definitely like a clay out there. so it's an interesting texture. so tough to walk around, but we made the best of it. >> those attending the festival are referred to as burners with a positive attitude. on monday along with some of the muddiest shoes that you'll ever see. saying it was about coming together when the weather took a turn. >> we were fortunate enough to take care of others and bring them into our camp. >> we stayed indoors for about 16 to 18 hours after that, we went out like a regular night.

there was lots of parties. every camp had its own parties. we had to wear garbage bags around the boots. yuck. it out in the mud. but it was amazing. festival organizers warned burners not to leave saturday or sunday due to the conditions after the rain, telling festival goers to conserve food, water and gasoline get says they did unsuccessfully attempt to leave. >> we tried to leave two days ago. >> it was impossible. we tried to leave yesterday. we got stuck in the mud and then today is good. people helped us and we are out. yes out and in route back to southern california for this group. >> not one person we interviewed said they wouldn't do it all over again. even with the rain and mud, saying it made things that much more special. that includes nicole, who gave us this video of what their party looked like saturday night after the rain, after all of that would you go back? yes what impressed me most, talking with these burners was their positivity. some of them didn't

know where they were going to eat or sleep after that bad weather hit. but they came together and made sure that everyone was okay in sparks, nevada. j.r stone, abc seven news and the deluge of rain didn't stop festival goers from wrapping up on a strong note for many, the weather brought the gathering of people even closer together. >> abc seven news south bay reporter lauren martinez has their story. >> everything is drying out despite the cold and muddy conditions as some burning man festival goers are ending the event with good spirits after a two night delay, the annual burning of the man was lit up on monday night as dramatic as people have made it, it actually hasn't been that terrible. if there's ever a group of people to get stuck with, this is this is the one this is the sixth burning man festival kiana beale has attended. >> she said the torrential rain brought people together, so it was shelter in place and try to just find somewhere warm and dry and keep each other warm and ideally find somebody who has an rv if you don't have one.

>> and then it just became really like a beautiful, um, sense of even more beautiful sense of community than before. >> i think drinks were served at their makeshift bar to combine food, and we made meals together and a lot more than we probably would have if the weather had been perfect. >> radical self-reliance is part of burning man and that's what we do. we prepare. we prepare for the worst that possibly could happen. and then this year , it happened. >> we spoke with a volunteer nurse who likes to highlight the positive side. >> things like this camp back here does fish. they serve for soup all day long. so people are lining up there for soup because it's actually pretty chilly out today and they're hungry. so camps are feeding them. it is very much of a bonding type situation. and have made friends here that i will have hopefully for decades for the rest of my life in the south bay. >> lauren martinez, abc seven news, the rainbow. >> well, as the weather dries out and improves at burning man, the sun is also making a return to the bay area. this week abc

seven news weather anchor spencer christian is here to tell us how things are warming up. spencer they are indeed. >> we started with a warm day today, labor day and it's going to be another mainly sunny and mild to warm day tomorrow. here's a look at our 24 hour day planner starting at 7 a.m. when we'll have some lingering morning low clouds. but the sun will be out and parts of the sky will be bright. it'll be about 56 to 58 degrees early in the morning, around 7:00. by noon, we'll see sunny skies everywhere. temperature about 76 degrees inland, about 70 around the bay shoreline. low 60s on the coast, 4 p.m. as we get close to the peak of our warming in the afternoon, we'll see mid 80s in inland areas, mid 70s around the bay shoreline mid 60s on the coast. and as we get into the early evening hours, 7 p.m. or so, still lots of bright sunshine, but the low clouds will be forming at the coastline. the marine layer will be building at that hour and temperatures will drop to the mid 70s, inland and upper 60s around the bay shoreline. i'll have the full accuweather seven day forecast in a few minutes. ama. >> all right, thank you spencer. we'll check back in the east bay today. a woman who police say

was an innocent bystander was injured by a stray bullet from a drive by shooting. happened at lake merritt on lakeside drive in madison street. police say the woman was struck while she was on the pedestrian path. she is in critical condition. an oakland youth football organization is looking for a new home. their search comes after the group was caught in the middle of gunfire during two practices recently. abc abc7 news reporter tim john spoke with one member of the team and shares her heartfelt plea. >> a nightmare situation unfolding for the east bay panthers in oakland late last month as the youth football organization was practicing at verdese carter park, a gunfight broke out right outside the park's entrance. >> it sounded like a war zone. there were so many shots that rang out. it was like people were shooting back and forth. kids were very frantic. >> thomas lopez is the treasurer of the group and has two kids who play with the panthers. she says as if the first experience wasn't bad enough at the nets practice, it got even worse. >> then all of a sudden people came on the field, running

behind each other, shooting before they were off the field. this time they were running through the field with handguns, lopez says. >> after happening two times in a row, many in the organization are devastated and fear for their safety. i have ptsd. >> my ten year old had three nightmares the first night to where he had to sleep in a bed with me. >> now the panthers are trying to find a new safe place to practice and raising money through a gofundme page. one option could be madison park academy near sobrante park. >> the only issue is that with the city of oakland parks and recreation, we have to have money to be able to rent out parks, lopez says. >> most of the kids on the panthers come from underserved communities without a lot of extra money. she tells me. part of the appeal of the organization is to give members a chance at a normal childhood. >> football gives them not only a community of family that loves them, it gives them a place to eat when they don't have money, a place to have social

something like that down. you need to spend time to bring yourself up. 2100ft over three miles. it's not a low effort crime. >> the section that was removed has been found by park staff. the pole has stood atop mission peak since 1990. luh- labor day travel was slow around the bay area because of a freeway closure. the stretch of westbound 80 between vallejo and hercules had been closed since friday. so caltrans could repave a three mile stretch of the road . but there was some good news today. lanes reopened around 5 p.m. caltrans says the work went faster than expected. >> and this is really great news for the drivers as they come back from their labor day vacations. we definitely what we wanted to do is we wanted to get the job done. obviously, what we wanted to do is compress over 106 nights of work into four days, and we're able to open up the highway 12 hours ahead of schedule. all he also said it helped a lot to have some extra contractors on site and the team worked around the clock to make it happen.

university of wisconsin's campus in madison. officials say about 60 to 80 people were standing on it celebrating the labor day holiday on that dock just collapsed and caved in, dumping them into the lake. 25 people were hurt. one person was taken to the hospital. the injuries, though, are all thankfully non life threatening. everyone is expected to be okay. authorities are investigating a submerged tugboat that's leaking oil in the sacramento-san joaquin river , california department of fish and wildlife says the oil and diesel are spilling into a protected wildlife area. they say several agencies are developing a plan to remove the boat and clean up the oil. wildlife officials say the early response has prevented any major impact. >> they're developing a salvage plan right now to get a contractor out there to remove the vessel, remove the threat. and so at this point, we've been really fortunate that that no wildlife or plant species have been impacted. >> the san joaquin sheriff's office says the spill was not intentional and it's possible

for older vessels in the water to just start leaking. all right. so let's check on our weather starting off another week. abc7 news weather anchor spencer christian is here with what we can expect. first full week of september. >> that's correct. that's right. i'm the weekend didn't give us much hope for sunshine but we did get that today so it was a nice labor day and right now on labor day evening we have an onshore breeze and it's a cooling onshore breeze. now it's pretty light in most locations, but here in san francisco, we have wind speeds at the surface of 14mph. so nice little sea breeze they're having a cooling effect along coastal areas and around the bay shoreline. most of these locations are about 3 or 4 degrees cooler right now than they were at this hour last night. while up in the north bay santa rosa, napa, fairfield are a couple of degrees warmer than at this hour last night. here's the view from the exploratorium camera giving us a nice view, in fact, of the cityscape of san francisco. we see a few thin clouds off in the distance, but it's mainly clear right now, 60 degrees in san francisco, low 60s in oakland, mountain view, san jose and palo alto, 59 at

half moon bay. we also have a pretty clear view in emeryville right now and we have other temperature readings of 57 at novato low 60 at santa rosa. novato fairfield 64 and 60 at livermore. and from our rooftop camera looking across the quiet embarcadere arrow, these are our forecast headlines. low clouds will develop near the coast and bay overnight in the wee hours of the morning. gradual warming trend will be with us for the next several days and it'll be heating up big time in our inland areas. over the weekend. forecast animation starting at midnight. looks like this. we'll see the development of a little bit of a marine layer there. it won't be very deep and it won't extend very far across the bay. by 6:00 tomorrow morning, it'll be present. it may provide a little bit of reduced visibility for early morning commuters, but it'll quickly burn back to the coastline, giving us a mainly sunny day starting at about 8 or 9 a.m. overnight lows will be mainly in the mid to upper 50s so pleasantly cool overnight tomorrow under sunny skies, look for highs in the low 60s near the coast. we'll see mainly mid 70s around the bay shoreline and mid 80s inland. and here is the
