first lady's office announced the diagnosis last night saying she plans to remain at their delaware beach house. >> but the president's test has come back negative. abc's em win joins us now from washington. good morning m andrew rhiannon good morning. >> the first lady's covid diagnosis comes after a new variant was detected in several states overnight. first lady jill biden testing positive for covid a year after she last battled the virus. the white house says the 72 year old is experiencing mild symptoms and will remain at the biden's home in delaware. the president, who is not with her, has tested negative. >> it's good to be almost home yesterday, the president campaigned in philadelphia and he set to travel to india and vietnam on thursday, the white house says biden, who will turn 81in november, will receive regular testing and monitoring throughout the week. >> both the president and first lady tested positive for covid last summer and each experienced rebound cases shortly after both

nearly a week. >> woke up my wife. i said, hey, i think there might be somebody downstairs. you know, get get on the phone, ryan drummond says he and cavalcante had a chilling exchange from one floor to another in his home last week. well, i decided to do was flip the light switch on and off. you know, three or 4 or 5 times pause. and then he flipped the light switch from downstairs 3 or 4 times, which was the moment of like, oh my god, this guy is down there. cavalcante is slipping out of drummond's door, getting away with food, peaches, apples, a green snap. peas were had been missing. you know, we have a bunch of little steak knives. it's possible that he could have also taken one of those. >> authorities say carvalho somehow broke out of the chester county prison last thursday. he was just starting a life sentence without parole for stabbing his ex-girlfriend to death in front of her young children. police zeroing in on a two mile radius around the prison, noting for credible

father grabs a bat while he's swinging their nearly 70 year old uncle jumps in the suspect's shirt, ripped away as he's chased down the street. this attempted robbery comes amid a rash of brazen smash and grabs just last month, dozens of suspects made off with $100,000 worth of merchandise from a nordstrom in la's canoga park. then there was this heist in glendale. thieves taking $300,000 worth of stuff from a luxury store, the city making several arrests in recent weeks as la launches a task force to investigate these crimes. >> we view them as organized crime, and we will use every tool available under the law. but some critics argue it's the law that needs to change. >> a proposed california law prevents stores from requiring employees to confront shoplifters. and many major retailers already have no such policies in place. but this family owned shop in el monte says they'll do whatever it takes to safeguard their store. we're a small family business,
