compared to yesterday. so right now, our cool spots in the valleys of the north bay, we're in the upper 40s to lower 50s. so a little bit of a chill in the atmosphere in parts of marin and sonoma county this morning. as you head around the bay shoreline. we're in the upper 50s for the most part as you step outside a lovely picture. this is from our east bay hills camera and you can see that low level fog out there this morning. but once we get rid of it, we've got sunshine coming our way. so here's how the day shapes up. very september like pattern with that morning cloud cover our marine layers overhead, giving way to sunshine a few degrees warmer today compared to yesterday. but all in all, it's very comfortable. we're in the mid 70s around the bay shoreline, mid 80s and our warmest spots inland high jobina high. >> true. thank you. good morning, everybody. so we have a couple of big things to talk about right now. of course, very different story today at the bay bridge toll plaza than yesterday. metering lights came on at 538. if you're traveling in the westbound direction across the bridge, it'll take you about 12 minutes. that's of course, once you make it through the metering lights, the san mateo bridge, no problems to

report here. we don't really have any major blocking issues. and i do want to let you know the big blocking issue we've been following throughout the entire hour. holiday weekend is now now open westbound 80 between 780 and vallejo and state route four in hercules. it actually opened early. so great news if that's a part of your commute this morning, coomassie. >> thanks, jobina. developing news on that mass exodus in the nevada desert. the gates at burning man are opening as tens of thousands of people are now able to leave after rain left them trapped in really muddy condition. means it could take hours for them to get out, though. abc seven news reporter ryan curry live in the newsroom with the details on this. hi, ryan carmassi. >> good morning. the burners as they are called, had a positive attitude monday as they were finally allowed to leave after a grueling weekend which act just a few moments ago. and the current wait time for people to get out is five hours. now. that's actually down from seven hours overnight. still a very long time. abc7 news was on the grounds of burning man yesterday. speaking with festival goers who are packing up and leaving the festival. it

wrapped up last night with the ceremonial burning of the man. you can see just the amount of mud people had to deal with all weekend long shoes were covered. everything else was covered in mud. heavy rain caused the grounds of the festival to turn into a muddy mess. all weekend long, burners were stranded and told to conserve food and water . some hiked miles outside of the festival grounds and hitched rides back to reno. others stuck it out and said it was an experience they'll never forget it. >> we stayed indoors for about 16 to 18 hours. after that, it we went out like a regular night. there was lots of parties. every camp had its own parties. we had to wear garbage bags around the boots, yuck it out in the mud. but it was amazing making the most of it. >> many of them told abc seven news. the festival itself is about survival burners say they helped each other out by making sure everyone had food and water authority is are investigating a death of a man at burning man. the victim is a 32 year old, leon reese, who died friday. it is unclear if it is connected to

the storm. and autopsy will determine the cause of death. we asked many if they would go back after what happened this weekend and they told our reporter j.r stone, who was up there, they would consider doing it again. live in the newsroom, ryan curry, abc seven news. >> all right, thank you, ryan. they have a good attitude about it. well, all that mud in the desert is raising health concerns for the thousands of people exposed to it at burning man. ucsf infectious disease specialist dr. monica gandhi says organisms sitting in the soil can be the leading cause for skin infections. she says less exposure to mud in these wet desert conditions is key. >> if you really drag yourself through the mud, like at the tough mudder competition in sonoma last month, you and if you especially if you have skin abrasions, you can get skin and soft tissue infections or cellular itis from those soil organisms. >> dr. gandhi, does not recommend people to stay covered in mud for more than two days.

she suggests cleaning off the mud with water as soon as possible. at last check, no outbreaks of any kind have been reported in the black rock desert and the east bay. >> a woman is in critical condition after being hit by a stray bullet from a drive by shooting. it happened yesterday at lake merritt on lakeside drive in madison street. police say the woman was an innocent bystander and was hit while she was on the pedestrian path. no information has been released about a suspect today. dianne feinstein's elder abuse lawsuit is set to be heard in san francisco superior court. senator feinstein sued, involves trustees of her late husband's estate. it accuses the trustees of committing financial elder abuse and refusing to respond to requests for disbursements. it also claims the trustees improperly enriched the daughters of her late husband, richard blum, who died last year. co-trustees michael klein and mark skolnick filed an objection last week questioning feinstein's capacity, her daughter's involvement in the

case, and her disbursement requests. >> first lady dr. jill biden has tested positive for covid. jobina is at the live desk with what we know about her condition this morning. good morning, jobina. >> good morning, gloria. thank you. the white house says the first lady is experiencing mild symptoms. she will remain at the first family's delaware home during her recovery. president biden and the first lady were last together on saturday. mr. biden is preparing to head to india this week for the g20 summit. both tested positive for covid last summer and were treated with paxlovid. dr. biden's diagnosis comes after a new variant was detected in several states. governor data shows hospitalizations and deaths are up nearly 22% in recent weeks and updated covid shot is expected later this month. the cdc is set to meet next week to discuss the exact timing of all of that and the new cdc director has already said she recommends everyone get the updated shot once it becomes

just moments before that whole wall just came tumbling down. oh, and thankfully, no one was hurt. drew oof, that is some scary stuff right there. >> oh, my gosh. okay. so taking a look at future weather as we go hour by hour, what we'll find is that our marine layer is breaking down pretty fast this morning. and as we head into the afternoon, we will see a decent amount of sunshine and those temperatures later today are a few degrees warmer compared to yesterday. we expect our warmest cities inland in the mid 80s, if not close to 90 degrees for most of us around the bay shoreline. we're in the 70s if not low 80s, go to about 68. in the city. we expect that sunshine breaking out across sf close to 11 a.m. this morning. elsewhere, we'll see that sunshine faster. it's nice in the north bay 78in napa, 85. the high in santa rosa. we have this trough that is just sitting across the west coast for the next couple of days. and what that means, temperatures are really comfortable. we have this pattern of morning fog to

sophisticated weapons technologies. the timing of any putin kim jong un meeting is unclear. and an oakland youth football organization is looking for a new home. their search continues after the group was caught in the middle of gun fire during two separate practice recently. both of these gun fights happened right outside of verdese carter park. east bay panthers team treasurer tamu lopez has two kids that play for the club. she says many in the organization are now devastated and fear for their safety. >> she sounded like a war zone. there were so many shots that rang out, it was like people were shooting back and forth. kids were very frantic. then all of a sudden people came on the field running behind each other, shooting before they were off the field. this time they were running through the field with handguns. >> this is terrible. so far, the panthers have one option for a new and safe place to practice.

good. >> unless she had her young boyfriend. oh yeah. >> go ahead. >> wow. >> she did it. she's living her life. >> yes. cher and it looks good. i love it. >> i like it. >> yeah, for sure. >> outside this morning. okay, so we have a fair amount of fog close to the coast. here's a really beautiful picture from our east bay hills camera showing you a nice sunrise underway. you can see our marine layer down there below, but it's pretty shallow. it's patchy this morning, so it'll break down pretty fast for sunshine over the next couple of hours. we have a steady pattern of morning fog to sun and comfortable temperatures through the end of the week and then we're warming up through the weekend. here's live doppler seven along with satellite. you look at the jet stream and you can see this dip. we call that a trough. and it's just sitting across the west coast for the next couple of days. and that is keeping temperatures really comfortable in the afternoon. it brings us that morning cloud cover to afternoon sunshine. so there's going to be little change in the forecast over the next couple of days. here's future weather showing you that cloud cover along the coast this afternoon.

sunshine away from the coast. then overnight tonight, we'll find that marine layer redeveloping, maybe some coastal drizzle, and then we'll see that afternoon sunshine redevelop and pretty much will repeat that on thursday day and on friday as well. looking at highs across the region, mainly 60s along the coast, 70s around the bay shoreline 80s in our warmest spots inland. so you're finding temperatures pretty close to where we should be for this time of the year. overnight tonight, we'll find that mostly cloudy sky return across the region and we'll see those numbers dip into the 50s. things stay pretty steady through the end of the week. you don't find any real excessive heat in the forecast over the weekend. we'll start to warm up those temperatures a few degrees on saturday and then on sunday. this is the warmest day we have on the seven day forecast. but you see, it's not too bad. low and mid 90s in our warmest spots away from the coast 70s and 80s around the bay shoreline. so a few degrees above average. but we're not finding even in the extended period the next two weeks any sign of an intense heat wave coming our way in september? we

fourth streets through sunday night. dreamforce, the conference put on by salesforce is one of the biggest tech events in the world. it is expected to bring about 40,000 people to the city. the state is making it possible for all of us to track fire prevention projects happening across california. so take a look at this new map. it shows every project in the state. it breaks it down by four types of work, and it shows the number of acres in which agency is working on a particular project. it is a beta version right now, but the final data will be added by spring of next year, according to the marin ig, the climate and wildfire institute provided $400,000 to develop the new tool, the 49 ers regular season begins in just five days, but the biggest question remains whether defensive star nick bosa will play. he is holding out for a new contract. bosa is scheduled to make $17.8 million

headed home. meanwhile, the festival officially wrapped up last night with a ceremonial burning of the man. it was delayed until yesterday because of the extreme weather. and this is all happening in black rock desert in northwestern nevada. that's about 150 miles from the capital of carson city and about 120 miles from reno and the nearby town of sparks. abc seven news reporter ryan curry is live in the newsroom. and ryan, the wait time for people to get out . i'm hearing it's still super long, right? >> yeah. very very long. gloria officials estimated that the excess is going to take a long, long time up to five hours. and they're still asking people to be very mindful of the traffic as they're going on. of course, we know this is a very busy weekend for a lot of people. a lot of emotions went into it. they say at one point it took as much as ten hours to get out storms on friday turned the black rock desert into a muddy mess. you can see just the

stay up to date with everything happening at burning man by heading to our website. abc7 news.com. it is a unique case of lost and found in fremont. >> a landmark that was vandalized when it was cut in half has now been found. we are talking about the peaker pole. that's a special marker atop mission peak hikers are known to take photos with it when they reach the summit. they say it has four faces showing you the directions of north and south and it's covered in peaker holes. so you can see other iconic peaks around the bay. but there are still questions about who cut off half of it of premeditate. >> did you need a specific tool to cut something like that down? you need to spend time to bring yourself up 2100ft over three miles. it's not a low effort crime section. >> that was removed has been found by park staff. the pole has stood atop mission peak since 1990. new concern over the condition of a landmark church

in downtown san jose. last week, crews removed the scaffolding and tarps that had covered the old first church of christ scientist on saint james street for years. the cleanup came after city leaders threatened to increase fines for property owners slow to clean it up. now preservationists are expressing concern, worried that removing the tarps could promote further deterioration of the 120 year old building in a partially submerged tugboat is leaking oil into the sacramento-san joaquin river delta, northwest of stockton. >> the california department of fish and wildlife says the oil and diesel are spilling into a protected wildlife area. they say several agencies are developing a plan to remove that boat and clean up the oil. wildlife officials say the early response has prevented any major impact. >> they're developing a salvage plan right now to get a contractor out there to remove the vessel, remove the threat. and so at this point, we've been really fortunate that that no wildlife or plant species have

over the next couple of days. but we do have that morning cloud cover first thing in some spots, it's going to quickly pull back to the coast. i think we see sunshine a lot quicker this morning compared to yesterday for the holiday and it will be a bit of a warmer afternoon by a few degrees in most spots. we expect our warmest cities inland mid 80s to near 90 degrees by about 4:00 pm. looking at highs today, pretty close to where we should land on this fifth day of september 85th in santa rosa, 78in napa with a lot of sunshine, very comfortable in oakland at 74, 68 in the city, 81 in san jose hit about 86. in antioch. there's that warm spot, fairfield coming in at about 90 degrees. the three day forecast with that trough in place along the west coast. we are going to see little change to the forecast cast over the next three days. we'll start out with patchy morning fog giving way to sunshine. that pattern repeats wednesday and thursday and temperatures are pretty steady, however, for the upcoming weekend. we do have a bit of a up moving in. we'll show you those numbers on the seven day

expect sunshine a lot faster today compared to yesterday. when we look at visibility, we really have no issues. unlike yesterday. yesterday we were dealing with dense fog in the north bay and along the coast. this morning, we're doing a lot better air quality. i mean, we couldn't be any better. we have green dots across the board. our aqi is looking great. here's future weather, hour by hour, patchy cloud cover along the coast today. this afternoon, we'll have that sunshine away from the coast. then we'll kind of repeat the pattern. our marine layer redevelops as the sun goes down tomorrow morning, we'll see that fog come back, but then it pulls back to the coast for sunshine and we'll do it again on thursday. and on friday. it's a pretty steady pattern when it comes to our sky and our temperatures. today, a few degrees warmer compared to the holiday yesterday, but temperatures pretty close to our averages for this time of the year. 68 in the city, about 78in napa. a very nice 74. in oakland, 81. in san jose, 76 for san mateo. palo alto, 86 in concord, the warm spot, fairfield at about 90 degrees overnight. tonight, we'll watch that fog redevelop and temperatures in the 50s through
