>> lots of complaints and now finally relief for neighbors. an alleged strip club running out of a townhome is now shut down. good evening. i'm ahmad daetz. and i'm larry beil. >> thanks for joining us. abc7 news i-team reporter melanie woodrow broke this story last week. yes she's here with the latest. >> mel. >> larry and amy, it's moving day for this promoter who told me that he was not doing anything illegal. the host who goes by the name fresh had until 7 a.m. today to leave the townhome. neighbors tell me he spent the night packing up some welcome sounds of leaving outside a row of townhomes on camille circle in san jose by phone. residents tell me they are relieved their neighbor is hopefully taking his parties with him once the news got involved and shined a light on the situation in which was so terribly egregious, it stopped it for months. they say they complained to 311911 the hoa and later code enforcement and the department of alcoholic beverage control about what they described as a strip club being

run out of a townhome. here the parties were advertised openly on social media, including publicly posted video from inside. and each weekend, residents tell the i-team people would come and go at all hours of the night with security guards escorting them to the townhome by flashlight. but the party's promoter told me the guests and even entertainers, as he described the dancers, were friends and family. >> i think it's laughable a person helping the townhomes owner recently filed eviction paperwork and last thursday, a sheriff's deputy posted an eviction notice on the window, giving whoever was inside until 7 a.m. today to get out this morning, the locks were changed and deputies posted a no trespassing sign. >> residents say it was a quiet weekend. >> i've gotten multiple good nights sleep, a longer string of good nights sleep than i've had in months and months. >> the department of alcoholic beverage control previously told the i-team it could not confirm or deny an investigation, but reiterated that it looks into every complaint received also that the sale of alcoholic

beverages in california without an appropriate license is a misdemeanor violation of the business and professions code. san jose's code enforcement deputy director told the i-team. code enforcement opened a case to investigate any potential zoning, building or municipal code violations within its purview. also, that it was coordinating with sjp on the alleged issues at the townhome. an attorney for the homeowners association said again today the hoa has no comment. while the party is over here, residents say they hope it doesn't move into someone else's neighborhood just because they move and do their business someplace else doesn't mean that, you know, everything is fine and legal and on the up and up, there were some small property that was left behind according to the eviction notice, it valued at less than $700. the landlord could either throw it away or keep it. >> and you talk to the man known as fresh who is running this, right? >> i did again today. we've now spoken twice and he continues to say that he's not doing anything illegal. he says these are

private parties and they're for friends and family. >> okay. to be continued. thank you, melanie. >> and to get in touch with the i-team, you can call this number on your screen or go to abc7 news.com, i-team. >> happening now, all westbound lanes of interstate 780 are still closed after more than eight hours and there is no estimated time of reopening. and here's the problem. you can see it. a tanker truck that was carrying 6000 gallons of liquid asphalt that overturned around 930 this morning on westbound 780 at east second street in benicia. so 780 still closed as is the northbound 680 ramp to westbound 780 and that is causing some big traffic backups . now here's how the cleanup looked around 330 this afternoon when sky seven was overhead. this is six hours after the crash. and again, all lanes of westbound 780 still closed with traffic backing up into northbound 680. the benicia bridge into martinez, caltrans does not have an estimated time to reopen that road, but it is a big mess over there. also

happening now, a wildfire that is burning in lake county prompting evacuee stations east of highway 29 near lower lake. it's called the creek fire started around 330 this afternoon. and cal fire estimates it's about 30 acres at this point. firefighters say it's about 30% contained and appears to be holding at the retardant lines. >> a vigil is happening now for a four yeaol girl who died in a bicycle crash in oakland a month ago. maya correa was in a child seat on her father's bike, riding in the bike lane. she was strapped in and wearin a helmet when the dof a car parked on lake shore near hanover avenue opened his door, knocking maya and her father onto the road. she died six days later after developing a blood clot near her brain. people at the vigil are demanding the city make streets safer for bicyclist , as there is now a go fund. >> me account for an oakland business owner who was shot on monday while walking her dog at lake merritt. and so far they've raised about $25,000 for the woman. abc seven news went by her vintage store on piedmont

avenue today. it's closed as she recovers in the hospital. oakland police say she was just caught in the crossfire of a shootout on labor day afternoon . police have not announced any arrests. >> the campus at oakland's skyline high school was all but empty today because of a shooting yesterday. classes were canceled today. so investigators could continue working when abc7 news went by this morning we saw some members of the track team working out but that was about it. police evacuated the campus and arrested two people following the shooting. no one was hurt. classes are scheduled to resume tomorrow. >> fentanyl overdoses and deaths have been a big problem in san francisco for years, but this week, a much smaller bay area city got hit pretty hard. union city saw five fentanyl overdoses in just 24 hours. in two cases, people died. abc seven news reporter suzanne fawn takes a closer look at the issue and what narcan can do now that it's available without a prescription . >> each officer, patrol officer in union city is equipped with narcan. >> sergeant john jimenez has

never needed to use his supply of narcan to help save a person's life. but other officers have in the past 24 hours, as union city police respond to five different fentanyl drug overdoses, including here on western avenue. in this industry business park. >> when an individual was found in in a restroom on conscious and gasping for air and the other one was in a parked vehicle in the parking lot of in the same area, unconscious, gasping for air. also narcan saved their lives not far away at medallion drive and whipple road, another case, that person ended up dying. >> of the five fentanyl overdoses in union city, two people died, including a 17 year old. >> certainly in the last 24 hours. it's very shocking. and, you know, it it just goes to show that, you know, these things don't just happen in big cities. >> the mayor of union city says she's deeply disturbed by the latest development that's just a tragedy. >> and anything we can do to prevent that in the future is just so important. >> starting this week, people

across the country can pick up narcan at a local drug store without a prescription. >> i think the easy access of narcan is very important and it's sad. we've come to this point. but if it's about saving a life and hopefully having that life be productive, that's what it's all about. >> michael snow is an overdose prevention educator with the hiv education and prevention project of alameda county. >> we train how to administer the actual narcan in the event of an overdose. >> snow says. hearing about those five fentanyl overdoses is alarming, very alarming, something that definitely needs to be addressed in response. >> and there definitely needs to be more education around and narcan, the dangers of overdose . >> snow the mayor of union city and sergeant john jimenez say making narcan more readily available is a much needed step toward combating the fentanyl problem. it's an added tool. >> yeah, we welcome any tool that will help us do that in union city.

come back in person, lyft was a holdout, making it optional to be back in the office. most worked from home, but there were outliers was i started coming back just because i get stir crazy in my apartment. now anyone living within 30 miles of headquarters must be back in the office. that's about 70% of lyft's workforce force working side by side three days a week. and we've been really thoughtful about which teams were sitting next to which teams. >> so that we can foster collaboration. >> and some say the communication between employees is now much faster. >> even just today it's been like light speed compared to trying to catch someone on slack. and maybe one person is out for a walk or one person is throwing in a load of laundry or whatever. >> the ceo has told employees that it really doesn't matter what time they arrive or how long they stay. the important thing is that they're back. socialize and collaborating. hi there. >> we do want people in the

office three days a week. we believe this is really important, but we also want to provide them flexibility, whether it's to get their kids to school or to avoid traffic. so we're not paying attention to the hours that people are working. our message has been, do what works for you. >> that means that a girl's best friend is never left at home alone in san francisco, leanne melendez, abc seven news. >> leanne pushing the chair back. hi there. tremendous more layoffs. unfortunately for the bay area's tech industry. san jose based roku cutting hundreds of jobs yet again today. the streaming service announced it's laying off 10% of its workforce. it's about 300 people. the company also plans to slow its pace of hiring and consolidate office space to save money. this is roku's third round of layoffs in less than a year, even though the company expects to make anywhere from 20 to $65 million more than it previously estimated. it'd now, of course, you know, there have been a lot of tech layoffs here in the bay area. we are keeping track and

clean up these homeless encampments? on abc seven news at four, i posed that question to abc seven news insider phil matier. >> it's not like they got a green light to go out there and clean up the encampments. what they did was get a flashing yellow that said under certain conditions you can tell people they've got to get off the streets. and one of those conditions is if they're there because they want to be or that they're voluntarily there and they can't say, i, i any longer under this past injunction, they were going up to these people and saying, we have a bed for you. and they would say, i don't want it. and they couldn't touch them. now they can say, you don't want it, you got to go. so it's glass half full, glass half empty. if you're an elected city attorney, it's half full. if you're the other side, it's half empty. >> phil says san francisco's biggest challenge is dealing with people who choose to live on the streets. he says the city is spending 1 billion and that's billion with a b dollar a year on homelessness. >> well, this appears to be the end of the line for a longtime

bay area attraction. raging waters in san jose announced today that it's closed for the season and won't be reopening. the water park posted the announcement on its website adding, quote, thank you for all the memories. san jose we spoke with san jose's mayor matt mehan about the closure soon after it was made public. >> and as preferences change, different business models will work and others won't. and so there's a silver lining here, which is there's an opportunity to reimagine that space. i've already talked to potential investors who are interested in bringing in some new concept that's revitalizing that area, thinking of other recreational uses, other entertainment uses that might be more viable as a business model. >> the mayor wouldn't tell us what those possibilities could be raging waters opened on the city's east side back in 1985 and labeled itself northern california's largest water park . >> a lot of kids spent summers there. and you have to think the pandemic played a huge part in their demise. >> not a lot of people go in. >> we're going to be in need of a water park here in the next

moscone center for dreamforce. the conference put on by salesforce is one of the biggest tech events in the world, drawing an estimated 40,000 people to the city. it doesn't start until next week, but howard street is already closed between third and fourth streets. dreamforce officially opens in one week. all roads will reopen on sunday, september 17th. so how much is it worth to visit venice? >> hopefully at least ■k75, because venice is about to become the first city in the world to charge day trip visitors starting in the spring of 2024. anybody over the age of 14 will have to pay ■k75 to entr the city, but only on certain days. locals, commuters and tourists who stay overnight and those participating in sporting events are exempt. the mayor of venice says it's just an experiment for now, authorities are going to choose 30 peak tourist days scattered throughout the year. the goal is to discourage day tourism at certain times like holidays or carnival. it's just too crowded. too many people. the venice city council is set to approve that resolution next week. >> us secretary of state antony

commitment to oakland is reaching even greater heights and today their eat learn play foundation launched a new movement to change the lives of oakland youth for years to come . the curry's and eat learn play are aiming to raise $50 million to invest back into oakland unified by 2026. more than 600 kids at lockwood steam academy in oakland were greeted by stephon aisha, along with their entire lp team receiving food, books and an amazing place to play. >> it means that kids have quality nutrition meals. it means they have access to amazing education and it means they have safe places to play. i mean, that's really what makes the whole child, i think, easily to understand where our priorities are. >> it's been cool to live it out . now, what we're doing with oakland unified school district is where kids go to eat, learn and play, and the name fits. >> we're just trying to do what we can with some ambition to serve the next generation as well as we can. >> great stuff there. so since 2019, they've raised about $47
