escape from a pennsylvania prison. >> he escaped one week ago, climbing up a wall to the roof. we're now learning more about that prison and previous security concerns and even staffing issues. abc's m wynne is here now with the details. m good morning. >> good morning andrew with the escapee still at large residents in the surrounding philadelphia area remain on edge. police warning them to stay on high alert. out this morning, stunning new security footage shows convicted killer danilo carvalho crab walking up these prison walls to escape prison officials in chester county, pennsylvania, saying they had just added razor wire on the roof after another inmate escaped in almost the same way less than four months ago, pushed his way through razor wire, run across the roof, scale another fence and push his way through more razor wire, nearly an hour after he scaled the walls, prison officials say they conducted a special count and then sounded the public escape alarm and notified 911 about 16 minutes after they realized he

was missing. the 34 year old sentenced to life in prison for murdering his ex-girlfriend in front of her children has been spotted at least seven times in the community. >> he for as long as he's at large and staying in this general area for people. have you know, will have a higher level of anxiety at the chester county prison county records show as of july, there was an increase of nearly 100 detainees from a year earlier, but the prison reportedly had more than 10% of the total positions there still unfilled. >> two months ago, there were plans for the county to spend more than 360,000 on security cameras to eliminate blind spots as the fugitive hunt continues, sources say the extreme heat is making it harder for authorities to locate body temperature signals from their helicopter was we're committed to the search and we will find him. >> we will bring him back and into the criminal justice system . >> prison officials are promising increased security at the facility, which includes

enclosing the exercise yards and adding more security cameras. andrew thank you. >> meanwhile, police in washington, dc are searching for a murder suspect. he escaped from custody at george washington university hospital. christopher haynes was last seen wearing a black t shirt and a handcuff on one wrist. >> now to the weather and hurricane lee. the system is about 1000 miles east of the leeward islands. the forecast keeps it north of the caribbean, but it is expected to grow into a category four hurricane by saturday. now, computer models have it missing the us right now, but we will continue to watch it closely. meanwhile, record breaking temperatures are possible today from texas. all the way up to new england, washington, dc has declared an emergency with feel like temperatures expected in the triple digits. and new york city is under a heat advisory. some schools in the northeast, those without air conditioning, are dismissing classes early today. we'll check your forecast in just a few moments. >> just days before the nation

marks 22 years since the 9/11 attacks, a major development in the legal battle to hold five suspects accountable. and a potential plea deal is being rejected. a new setback in the case against five men accused of orchestrating the september 11th attacks. nearly 22 years ago. some of the conditions of their potential plea deal have now been rejected by president biden. military prosecutors had offered the men held at guantanamo bay, including alleged nine divided by 11 mastermind khalid sheikh mohammed, a deal that would have spared them solitary confinement and provided medical treatment for alleged abuse while in cia custody. but biden saying no. a spokesperson saying the president does not believe that the agreement would be appropriate in the circumstances. the terms of the agreement called for the detainees to plead guilty in exchange for being spared the death penalty. nearly 3000 people died in the attacks. the single worst assault on the us since pearl harbor. before biden rejected the terms families of nine divided by 11 victims

expressed outrage over the possible plea deal. >> it feels like a betrayal. it feels like the government is choosing to protect the master mind, the perpetrators, the financiers. >> now, many welcoming biden's decision. a man who lost his father on nine divided by 11 saying, we look forward to the day that we can praise our government for finally giving us justice and holding all parties involved in the attacks accountable. >> firefighter william m. hughes . >> meanwhile, the new york fire department yesterday added another 43 names to its world trade center memorial wall. all died of illness related to their work at ground zero. and last night, in lower manhattan, the city tested its tribute in light, which will shine into the sky monday night to honor the lives lost. military prosecutors are now trying to hash out a new plea deal for the five men held at guantanamo. >> president biden's son, hunter , is expected to be indicted on a felony gun charge by the end of this month. it stems from an

allegation that he illegally purchased a gun while he was on drugs. the charge was supposed to be dropped as part of a broader plea deal that involved tax violations. but but that deal fell apart back in july. abc's pierre thomas reports hunter's lawyers are now pushing back on the looming indictment. >> hunter biden's attorneys are preparing to fight. they believe the original plea deal on the gun charge should remain in place. but they say the president's son should not be indicted on that charge as long as he stays off drugs and out of serious legal trouble. >> prosecutors argue the agreement is invalid because it was never signed by a probation officer. >> ukraine's president is condemning a russian missile strike on a busy market in eastern ukraine. ukraine calls the bombing another act of terror by moscow. it came on the same day that secretary of state antony blinken visited ukraine, offering another billion dollars in us aid, an important medical headline cases of early onset cancer are surging dramatically all across the globe.

>> researchers say cancer cases in people under the age of 50 increased by nearly 80% over the course of three decades. the study points to red meat, salt and alcohol as factors along with smoking and a lack of exercise. as in wisconsin, a school bus crash was caught on camera. the bus colliding with a city bus. there it is in racine , flipping onto its side. luckily no kids were on the bus at the time, but ten other people were injured. >> now to a warning for drivers . your car may not be the sanctuary that you think it is. a new report warns that all that fancy technology in your vehicle means someone could be spying on you, tracking you, or even worse , selling your information, even very personal information. here's abc's andrea fujii a privacy nightmare. >> that's what a nonprofit group is saying about new cars and the data they're collecting on drivers. >> they know your driving habits. they know how fast you drive. they know how quickly you stop and how quickly you start.

and the list goes on and on. >> experts say the data could be used by insurance companies to determine premiums. it's information not hard to get. according to a new study released by the mozilla foundation, it found that cars scored the worst for privacy among a dozen apps and electronic devices studied 19 of the 25 popular car brands say they can sell drivers personal data and half acknowledged they'll share your information with the government or law enforcement if asked. researchers say those fancy gadgets and newer cars like cameras, microphones and apps could all be collecting data on you. and the study found 84% of car companies share that information with other businesses, according to mozilla, nissan's policy says it can collect sexual activity, health diagnosis data and genetic information for targeted marketing purposes. nissan responding. when we do collect or share personal data, we comply with all applicable laws and provide the utmost transparency. >> we're astounded when we saw that they could collect information on things like

sexual activity and sex life, but could get no answers on how they actually might be doing that. >> so how can you protect yourself? some car companies give you the option to opt out of data collection, but warn that may impact functionality. experts say with no federal laws in place to protect consumers, you need to do your homework. consumers is overall very little control at this point of what's being collected and therefore what's being sold. a trade group representing automakers says it wants to protect consumer privacy and is calling for a federal privacy law. andrew rhiannon. andrea thank you. >> it is time now for a look at your thursday weather. good morning. >> we have a rapidly intensifying hurricane on our hands this morning. hurricane lee expected to be a major hurricane into this weekend as it moves north of puerto rico. impacts to the us are possible by the end of next week, especially up the coast from north carolina. meantime, today

north carolina, police lieutenant corey brooks running towards a truck engulfed in flames. >> a 24 year veteran managed to drag the driver who was unconscious to safety minutes before the truck exploded. and that driver is okay. good news. >> and here's another story of survival. we are now hearing from a southern california man who spent five days at the bottom of a ravine with no food or water. and during his ordeal, he says a bear came to visit him this morning. a great grandfather is grateful to be alive after being rescued five days after his truck plunged into the bottom of this ravine when it started coming down the hill. >> i missed the hill. the whole hill and came straight down. >> 68 year old calvin smith was driving home on a rural road north of los angeles last tuesday when his truck ran off the road into a 100 foot ravine. he was thrown from the truck, seriously injured and unable to move all he could do was wait
