shot by two officers. >> happened around 940 last night in a lot behind the safeway off city center drive abc7 news reporter j.r stone has the latest. >> bullet holes mark this area where police shot and killed a man wednesday night in hayward. >> it sounded like the end of the 4th of july fireworks. it's all boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom. that's all you heard. rapid fire. >> angela kuntz lives on the streets and was sleeping in this structure on city center drive behind the safeway and starbucks on foothill boulevard off. officers say they responded to a report of a man with a gun. kuntz describe her time with that man who she says is also unhoused. on wednesday. >> and he was up in here last night drinking with a fake gun like a fake gun, a fake gun in his backpack and like, i think he might have pulled it wanting suicide by cop. police confirmed to us that the man had a gun and he not complying. >> he's walking away from us towards the old city hall parking structure. >> at least one witness saw the

man point a firearm in the direction of officers and an officer involved. shooting resulted bullets broke through these windows right here, which has since been covered up by this plywood. >> but we were here earlier and we could see that those bullets nearly hit a computer shooter inside just before the shooting. officers can be heard on scanner traffic talking about a shoplifting case at safeway, chased them out of the store, is about to steal. officers aren't saying if the suspect was involved in the shoplifting, saying only that they responded to the report of a man with a gun in this area. kuntz is upset that i didn't even hear them say, stop, wait, put it down. >> nothing like all you heard was a hey and shots fired. >> police haven't said how many shots were fired. and the name of the man killed has not been released. in hayward, j.r. stone , abc seven news. meanwhile in san francisco, police just finished giving new details about a deadly shooting of a man

who was armed with a knife that happened in the tenderloin last month. >> abc7 news anchor karina nova listened to that town hall and joins us now live in the newsroom with the latest karina. >> larry, that town hall just wrapped up and we got to see a lot of body camera video from that incident when police shot and killed a man armed with a knife on august 28th in the tenderloin. that man identified as 54 year old richard everett, was shot on jones street at eddy. people called 911, telling dispatchers everett was holding a large knife and threatening people. sfpd body cam video shows the moment police arrived and saw everett holding that knife. and you can hear police asking everett to put the knife down for about 20 minutes. >> hey, put the knife down. put the knife down. hey, gentlemen, get out of here. put the knife down, down! hey, get out of here . john five. we're giving one commands. 408 stage put the knife down. why not? why not

it down? officials say eventually more than one officer opened fire after they say everett came at them with that knife after being shot. >> everett was taken to the hospital with life threatening injuries. he died shortly after that. san francisco police chief william scott says the point of this town hall is to be more transparent with the public when it comes to these types of incidents in the newsroom. karina nova, abc seven news. >> all right, karina, thank you. new details, a second gun recovered and another suspect charged today in connection with a shooting at oakland's skyline high school. the school was on lockdown tuesday after a report of shots being fired. classes were canceled yesterday. police today said they arrested a third person. all are under 18. investigators will not say if the suspects are students. officers responded to the school tuesday morning but did not find any shooting victims. no injuries were reported. oakland poli alsinvestigating a

homicide that happened just before 5:00 this morning.fice rg on embarcadero west where they found a psuffing from a gunshot wound. this was near the restaurant, nieto's backyard and the jack london aquatic center. the person wen to the hospital where they were pronounced dead. so far, their identity has not been released. >> today, governor gavin newsom announced that he is beefing up the state's drug enforcement efforts at the mexican border. the goal is to help battle the fentanyl crisis in 2023. >> so far, 93% of fentanyl seizures in our state have occurred at legal crossing points or interior vehicle checkpoints, which is where our work is being targeted. >> the governor says he plans to increase the number of california national guard members at the border to 60 from 40. the goal is to expand on the operations that he says have led to a 594% increase in fentanyl seized in california. and according to the governor, law enforcement agencies seized more than 28,000 pounds of fentanyl just last year.

>> psychedelics, such as magic mushrooms are one signature away from decriminalization in california. this afternoon, a final state senate vote sent the bill to the governor's desk. the measure would allow people 21 and older to possess and use small amounts of psychedelics. proponents claim hallucinogens can be used for monitoring, for monitored treatment of addiction, ptsd, depression and anxiety. opponents say psychedelic use can cause paranoia and psychological trauma, while greens has agreed to pay a $44 million lawsuit by consumers who received flawed blood tests in arizona and california. >> the lawsuit says walgreens was willfully blind to fraud with its partnership with theranos. elizabeth holmes, the founder of theranos, was convicted of fraud last year, sentenced to just over 11 years in prison. the company's former president, ramesh sunny balwani , was also found guilty. he's now serving a 13 year sentence. >> now to the latest on the saga over a sailboat that has been stranded on a beach in the marina in marin county. for more

than a month. today, a federal judge extended a temporary restraining order giving the stranded sailor until monday to move his boat from upton beach just north of stinson beach. if he does not move it, the county will intervene. abc7 news reporter stephanie sierra has the latest from the courtroom to the coast. >> a sandy shipwreck on stinson beach. a sailor in route to seattle stuck on the shoreline since july 31st. it belongs to logan walker who calls himself captain. what happened to your shoes? >> i'm they're gone. >> i don't know what happened to them. >> the captain walked out of federal court today without shoes, relaxed, lighting up his pipe after a federal judge extended a temporary restraining order, giving him a few extra days before marin county deputies will take his boat off the beach. now, walker has until monday at noon to get this boat into the water or else the county will intervene. do you

have help plan to get the boat out of the sand? >> yeah, it could be out of here real, real soon. how soon? the next tide until then. >> the clock is ticking, walker is concerned if the county does it, it will ruin his boat and impact the environment. >> my view is way better than theirs ever was. their fix to the problem is cut up my boat, which is really bad for the environment. the county argued in court the boat is interfering with the public's right to enjoy the beach. >> a beautiful beach just decimated. with all this garbage. >> sarah atherton says she doesn't understand why it's taking so long. >> we're a little upset because i feel like he's taking advantage. people are making him meals every day, and they set up a go fund me to get his boat towed out. >> but erica lowry argues that maybe it's worth the wait. >> i understand it's an eyesore, but, you know, it has cost everybody a lot of money, maybe $50,000 or something like that. taxpayer money. >> mixed emotions tied up on the issue, like the rope and tackle

scheduled train. people can expect a 50% increase in evening service, seven days a week service on bart's busiest weekday line. the yellow line will increase from running every 15 minutes to every ten minutes from pittsburg bay point. all these changes are designed to get more people to take bart. >> a solemn tribute today for a central coast native who was killed during world war two. firefighters and first responders lined overpasses to honor the repatriation of the remains of sailor wilbur mills, which arrived today at san jose international airport. they were taken by a hearse to a cemetery in monterey county. mitts was killed when the plane he was in went down in the pacific ocean. 79 years ago this sunday. according to the monterey herald , a team recovered mitt's remains back in 2019. more than a decade after they located the plane's wreckage. mitt's will be laid to rest in mission memorial park in seaside. >> all right, let's get a check on our weather now. >> abc7 news meteorologist sanjay patel is here with the warming trend. >> yeah, it's going to be a miniature warming trend as we hit the weekend. larry and irma,

let's take a look at live tower camera pictures and you can see we have plenty of sun mixing in with some fog on the golden gate. and from our mount tam cam. but just a lovely day, low 60s to upper 80s. here's what's going to happen in that low. that's been pretty much dominating our weather moving on out. high pressure is going to shift westward and that's what's going to bring us the warm up over the next couple of days. but we're also going to see the potential for some of this moisture from hurricane jova to get drawn up towards the central coast late tomorrow. going into saturday, we're not expecting rain here in the bay area, the central coast has the best opportunity for seeing a shower or two. and if the right instability comes together, could see a thunderstorm there. but right now, it's a low likelihood. so wouldn't be too concerned about it if you do have plans. live doppler seven showing you the fog right near the coastline. it is going to continue to move in across the bay tonight. and as we look at a live picture from our san jose

camera, it is just a beautiful, bright view. 66 in san francisco, oakland, you're at 68 degrees, 72 in mountain view, 79 in san jose and 73 in palo alto. it is socked in on the golden gate bridge. we have a gentle breeze out there mid 70s around santa rosa, napa 86 fairfield mid 80s, concord and livermore. and from our east bay hills camera we're looking at sunshine from as we look towards vollmer peak. their forecast headlines. areas of fog and low clouds overnight sunny and warmer the next few days and we're looking at hot summer weather inland sunday and monday. so it's not going to be an area wide heat event as we go hour by hour, 6:00 tonight. 50s at the beaches , 80s inland. it cools off nicely near the coast, but it's still pretty mild inland later on tonight. and then tomorrow morning, we start you out with some higher clouds and some fog down below. tomorrow afternoon, we'll be heading up into the upper 80s to low 90s for our warmest inland valleys. your morning temperatures in the 50s 60s watch out. even though the fog is not going to be

widespread, it may be locally dense. so something you'll need to watch out for during the commute tomorrow afternoon. a warm one in the south bay, 88 degrees in morgan hill, 83. san jose on the peninsula. you're looking at 82. in redwood city, 64 half moon bay, san francisco coming up to 70 degrees, 66 in the sunset district. north bay numbers low. 80s from vallejo to san rafael, 86 degrees in santa rosa heading into the east bay, 75. oakland 79. fremont 80. castro valley. this is where the summer warmth will be. 90 degrees in fairfield, 88 in concord and in livermore. now the oakland pride parade is taking place on sunday. the festivities begin this weekend. 11 a.m, 67 degrees. it's going to be quite comfortable. sunshine low to mid 70s by 2 p.m. and it's going to be warm weather by 4:00, 80 degrees, dropping off to about 69. warm water is what's fueling hurricane lee. look at the eye on this map. massive storm in the atlantic. it is a category four. winds of 130 miles an hour

it it another long time san francisco business is celebrating today with oodles of noodles. the mincing noodle company celebrating 91 years in business. the bayview company can trace its original roots to chinatown before it moved in 1994 to expand operations as the beloved noodle company. well known for its signature shwe main. it's what i'm guessing.
