creek this morning with what we can all expect. hi, ryan. >> yeah, hi, reggie. good morning. a lot of those changes can be felt here on the yellow line. where at walnut creek right now where a lot of people taking those commute hours are going to see massive difference when it comes to their scheduling. seeing more trains and more frequent times throughout the day. on monday, riders will start to see these changes. there will be a 20 minute wait, maxim for trains. no more half hour wait times, more trains will be running at night and trains on the yellow line will be running every ten minutes until 9 p.m. on weekdays. there will also be nine trains per hour going to and from sfo until 9 p.m. bart says these changes are designed to adjust to the post-pandemic commute style. bart will also be getting rid of its old trains. only the new ones will be running. they will say these new trains will be better equipped with surveil science to make things safer for those on board. they're also going to be

reducing the size of these trains. they're going to be smaller. bart says having shorter trains makes it easier to patrol and also easier to run more frequently. we know bart ridership has not been the same since the pandemic. the numbers are still lower than what they were back in 2020. bart says this new schedule is designed to appeal to those new style of train riders in this new post-pandemic era, hoping that it will also entice more people to return to bart by having more trains running more frequently throughout the day. we're live in walnut creek. ryan curry, abc7 news. thank you, ryan. >> a woman accused of illegally smuggling tropical fruit from vietnam into santa clara county is due in court today. 36 year old thanh yuan and another woman are charged with conspiracy to import and sell fruit in violation of federal and state agriculture laws. some of the fruit was infected with fruit flies. officials say this happened last year. that shipment was allegedly mislabeled as dried fish, coffee and tea. to avoid inspection, the district attorney's office

says the woman sold the fruit on facebook marketplace psychedelics like magic mushrooms, are one signature away from decriminalization in california yesterday, a final state senate vote sent the bill to the governor's desk. >> the measure would allow people 21 and up to possess and use small amounts of psychedelics. supporters of the move claim that hallucinogens can be used for monitor treatment of addiction, ptsd, depression and anxiety. opponents say they can cause paranoia and psychological trauma. >> governor gavin newsom says his office is beefing up the state's drug enforcement efforts at the mexican border to help battle the fentanyl crisis. >> in 2023, so far, 93% of fentanyl seizures in our state have occurred at legal crossing points or interior vehicle checkpoints, which is where our work is being targeted. >> the governor says he's planning to increase the number of california national guard members at the border from 40 to 60. the goal is to expand on the

operations that he says have led to a 594% increase in fentanyl seized in california, according to the governor. law enforcement agency seized more than 28,000 pounds of fentanyl just last year. >> time is running out for a man to get his sailboat off a north bay beach before authorities come in. and chop it up. the boat is stranded on stinson beach in marin county after it washed ashore at the end of july. logan walker has until noon monday to get it out to sea. >> you have helped plan to get the boat out of the sand. >> yeah, it could be out of here real, real soon. how soon? the next tide, walker, who calls himself captain, left federal court without shoes after getting a temporary restraining order, buying him more time. >> he was on his way to seattle when he got stuck. the boat was certainly a hot topic in marin county with some wondering what's taking so long. the captain is worried the county could ruin his boat and affect the environment, too.

trail camera. it's the same area he was spotted in on monday. residents there were told to shelter in place as a precaution . >> this has been going on for a week now. i'm has to be beyond frustrating. it's insane. >> i mean, it really is insane. and i don't know what to tell you. i mean, special ops. get him in here. any thing. whatever it takes. whatever it takes. >> i believe he becomes more desperate. we will eventually capture him. and when we do, he's going to prison. >> cavalcante was convicted of killing his ex girlfriend in front of her two children. he has eluded hundreds of law enforcement officers since he broke out of the chester county prison. the reward for information leading to his capture here is now at $20,000. reggie jobina, thank you. >> new developments in a viral internet challenge known as the one chip challenge. the company behind the chip is now taking action. it comes as a family is blaming their son's death on the challenge. they say their 14

year old died the same day he tried the chip, marketed as being one of the spiciest in the world. it includes a carolina reaper, pepper and viper pepper . and now the chip company is removing the product from shelves with a good boy. >> he was a great boy. good boy. yes a loving, loving son. >> the medical examiner is still looking into the boy's exact cause of death. in a statement, the chip company says the voluntary recall of its chips from stores is out of an abundance of caution because of an uptick in teens not following the product's warnings. >> friday morning, 645, the official sunrise. and we're looking at a little bit of gray around the bay. but overall, all the fog clears a little bit sooner. it is cool here in santa clara, 55, 61, san jose and a look at the rest of the bay. we're in the mid 50s. the fog is up towards santa rosa and along the coast here. otherwise we'll look for a pretty nice morning out there with a cool start and a mild to warm afternoon. so the

patchy coastal fog sunny and warmer the next few days and looking at that hot summer weather inland, that's going to be sunday and monday. so we're not going to see 90s in san francisco or at the coast, but we will see the fog clear back by midmorning hours and even some sun from stinson all the way down to half moon bay and pacifica. and by tomorrow there is a system to the south of us that wants to bring up a little rain along the central coast. but for the bay area, we are still looking at sunshine and temperatures on the warmer side as high pressure continues to build in just for a couple of days. highs today then ranging from about 70 is where that is average downtown, 75 in oakland. the winds will be with us once again. it will be breezy along the coast, 83 in san jose with 86 in santa rosa. and if you're making plans for the parade in oakland on sunday, gorgeous day out there getting a little bit on the warm side with upper 70s in the accuweather seven day forecast featuring the warmer

to further postpone an important decision on land that could be used to provide homes for the unhoused. the property sits right off of zanker road, as you see here on this map. last night, a lengthy discussion at vta's board meeting led to a number of changes to the proposal that would result in san jose leasing that land. among the changes, san jose mayor matt mehan is asking for a five year lease. the new plan is to revisit that proposal at the next meeting. mayor mehan said if this gets the green light, the project could open sometime next year. >> a bay area housing nonprofit is getting a financial boost as it races to turn property into affordable housing. philanthropist mackenzie scott donated $20 million to the san francisco ■community land trust. scott is amazon founder jeff bezos ex-wife. the nonprofit keeps ownership of land to maintain affordability for low and moderate income san franciscans. according to the chronicle, the nonprofit also announced a new $60 million capital campaign in a beloved san francisco boutique is

closing its store in the marina district just a year after their noe valley location shut down. the owners of ambiance say they're retiring, according to our media partners at sf standard, donna and kieran o'leary are calling the decision bittersweet. the marina location will close for good in mid-october. the inner sunset location will close at the same time, but it's going to reopen with new owners soon, according to the ambiance facebook page. the new owners are two longtime employees. >> as many as 12,000 people are expected to be in downtown san francisco tonight. as for the final bhangra and beads, night market festival, it's on battery street. it's a lot of fun, too. it goes from five until ten tonight. next weekend, there is a big filipino block party called and south of market called undiscovered sf. >> a major pillar of the downtown recovery strategy is to bring arts and culture and nightlife to downtown and to make it a destination for all of those different activities

across the city. >> here's another example of possible revitalization. a new state of the art bowling alley just announced it's going to be moving into the mall's old nordstrom space at stonestown round. and one features bowling karaoke and an arcade. well, we've been hearing a lot about businesses leaving san francisco, but there are also a lot of new businesses investing in the city bars. radiator is one of those new spots looking to revitalize the city and bring in a fresh atmosphere. the restaurant and bar brings coastal italy to the heart of san francisco, and i got to speak with one of the partners and the mixologist about what makes this spa so special. what do you think is it about this space that makes people feel like they're really getting away? >> it's very bright. and the interior design, they did a fantastic job. hi lamps, i can remind you, like a street in venice. but the tool of hospitality. i think that what makes people feel that they're really transport somewhere else . >> bargetto the tour is located in one maritime plaza in the

week ago with all of that rain. but nonetheless, this is going to continue to move up to the north and weaken. and as it does spread in some high clouds along the central coast, monterey, san benito county, back home, we are looking at very little fog and temperatures ranging from the 50s to some 60s out there. we can see upper elevations mid 60s mount diablo 55, san ramon and temperatures in the city. upper 50s the fog is in santa rosa, a bit in napa at 56 and we are cooler all throughout the bay area for the most part except by the delta. it is two to about seven degrees colder across the bay area. you may notice that stepping up, but by the afternoon we reverse that trend and we've got some low 80s slightly warmer near average in the south bay, 77 palo alto, redwood city up to 82. downtown 70 degrees. the breezy winds kicking up in the afternoon, 82 petaluma, near east bay. what a day. 75 here in oakland with 79 in union city heading inland,

temperature, 55 in oakland, it's 59 in livermore. we'll warm up quicker today and we'll be sunnier sooner as we go through the 9:00 hour. mostly sunny skies. 1:00 we're in the mid 70s so that is the average high for this time of year in oakland will surpass that by a few degrees. we'll be in the 80s by 1:00 inland, but by the later afternoon, perhaps reaching 90 in some spots. but the fog comes back close late in the day. but notice we have warmed up the oranges here and the reds indicating the temperatures in the 80s and 90s. it's really near average for this time of year. nothing too extreme, but we'll keep that warming trend going. we'll get the fog at night. the sunshine in and the warmer days for the next couple of days, including the weekend and beyond. we'll just for monday. so we'll talk about that a little bit later with my extended outlook coming up jobina. >> thank you, lisa. good morning, everybody. so if you rely on bart for your weekend in any way, know that tomorrow and on sunday, there's going to be trackwork underway between the

fremont and also the union city stations that will all be shut down while they work to remove some they're saying some hazardous trees and things in and around the tracks from the winter time. so you will have to rely on shuttle busses in between those two stations. walnut creek looking at 680, no problems to report on our roadways. and we'll wrap up here with a live picture of san rafael showing you 101. carmassi >> thanks, jobina. an investigation is underway this morning after hayward police officers shot and killed a man wednesday night. the department's acting chief says officers responded to a report of a man with a gun near a parking garage. he says the man who was unhoused refused orders to drop the weapon and that when officers opened fire, the it was at a time when he was pointing that weapon at them. officers later determined that the weapon was a b-b gun and luh- koontz lives on the streets and knew the man and he was up in here last night drinking with a fake gun like a fake gun. >> a fake gun in his backpack.

and like i think he might have pulled it wanting suicide by cop . >> she says she didn't hear officer say stop or wait or put the weapon down. police haven't said how many shots were fired. and the name of the man killed has not been released at san francisco. >> police just released body camera video of the deadly shooting of a man that happened in the tenderloin neighborhood last month. officers responded to reports of a man armed with a large knife who was threatening people. video shows the moment officers got there and saw the man identified as 54 year old richard everett. they spent about 20 minutes trying to get him to drop the knife. >> hey, put the knife down. put the knife down. hey, gentlemen, get out of here. put the knife down. hey, get out of here. john five, we're giving one commands for eight stage put the knife down. police say two officers

hurricane jova. another beautiful imagery there from the pacific where this continues to weaken and will influence part of southern california, even the central coast could see some high clouds later in the weekend. but for the bay area, we're talking about a slight warming trend. you may have noticed it a bit yesterday, 58in oakland at 60in concord. we have some fog to the north of us in santa rosa. here's a look at napa. if you're headed to wine country over the weekend, notice that we're about five degrees average today in the mid 80s. we'll stay just thereabouts tomorrow and then into sunday and monday, climbing another four degrees. so not a huge warm up, but enough that you'll probably notice it feeling certainly like summer the rest of the bay area tomorrow looking at upper 70s to near 80 the bay shore low 80s in the south bay. here's your warmest day on sunday day. you can see all those 80s around the bay and 90s inland. little change on monday. so today bay enjoying that 70 downtown 75 across the bay mid and upper 70s peninsula. we
