morning to you. we begin with more help on the way for the people of morocco after that devastating earthquake. >> yeah, more than 2100 people are confirmed dead at this point. rescuers say the first 72 hours is crucial to finding more survivors. and that 72 hour window closes tonight. >> there have been moments like this, a survivor pulled from the rubble. but these moments are increasingly rare. and abc's em win is here now with the very latest. good morning. >> good morning. rhiannon yeah. thousands offered their assistance either with aid rescue or by donating blood. aftershocks continue to rattle nerves in morocco this morning. video shows the violent shakes from the deadly 6.8 magnitude earthquake in morocco, sending people fleeing for their lives here. panic at a wedding ceremony. this man barely escaping the death toll still rising in morocco's deadliest earthquake in more than six decades. at least 2100 people killed, thousands more injured.

rebecca tremblay visiting from los angeles. >> that's when i realized, oh, something's going wrong. and all the walls literally felt like play-doh and the floor just felt as if it was melting underneath my knees. >> she ran outside with nothing but her phone. >> i thought, i'm going to die this is a really bad earthquake. and then i call my mom and i was thinking, this is a good goodbyes and i'd start crying. >> the epicenter are high in the atlas mountains, just south of marrakesh. hundreds of first responders and aid workers, both local and international, helping clear debris and recover the dead. this father saying he and his family were at home when the earthquake hit, but his eight year old son never made it out, at least 17 aftershocks, including a magnitude 4.5 tremor, further damaging buildings, including this woman's family home. some

residents spending a third night in the open waiting for food, water and electricity. the biden administration has reached out to the moroccan government to help provide immediate assistance. >> we're working expeditiously to ensure american citizens in morocco are safe. we're standing ready to provide any necessary assistance to the moroccan people as well. >> the rescue will grow more challenging as teams traverse this mountainous roads to reach the villages hardest hit. morocco is asking for all the help they can get. lionel. >> all right. really devastating . thank you so much. now to hurricane lee, which is growing stronger in the atlantic. lee, now back up to a category three with winds of 120mph. it's expected to generate rough surf along the east coast. accuweather's melissa constanza is tracking this storm. good morning, melissa. >> good morning. lionel lee saying a very strong hurricane as it keeps its way off the us east coast for the upcoming days. it will produce some rough seas and strong rip currents,

but the concern will be as it treks north into the upcoming weekend, it's going to stay a hurricane quickly moving towards atlantic canada and having some impacts for the east coast, including a portions of new england, cape cod and boston with 40 to 60 mile per hour wind gusts. rhiannon >> melissa, thank you for that. and now to the search for that convicted killer who escaped from a pennsylvania prison. more than a week ago. we are now hearing from his former roommate . these are the latest images released by authorities near philadelphia showing escaped killer danilo cavalcante, the fugitive now clean shaven, wearing a hoodie after slipping through a perimeter that was manned by up to 400 officers sometime during the evening of september 9th. >> cavalcante stole a 2020 ford transit van from an area approximately three quarters of a mile from the perimeter. we were maintaining near the longwood gardens property. >> police say cavalcante altered his appearance, drove 26 miles

to a former coworkers house in phoenixville and was seen on this doorbell camera trying to talk with that colleague who was not home. police finding that stolen van abandoned behind a barn after it had apparently run out of gas, towing it away overnight. authorities were pressed repeatedly about how the fugitive was able to breach a four square mile containment zone. i'm not going to make an excuse to you. >> i wish it had not happened. unfortunately there are a lot of circumstances there are a lot of issues associated with that property. you couple that with weather aviation being down for a night. there are a number of reasons. again, no excuses. >> it's been 11 days since cavalcante made this daring escape from the chester county prison, climbing up the walls. the 34 year old was convicted of killing his ex-girlfriend in front of her two children. cavalcante former roommate now speaking out. >> right now i have anxiety because of this and i was getting anxious again this week

and i was talking to the police for about an hour. i just want him to be caught local residents on edge. >> but you just worry about your family and everyone to be safe. >> now, police do believe cavalcante is still in pennsylvania. they are urging people in that area to secure their cars. >> an emergency order to fight gun violence is sparking protests in new mexico. the nra is suing the state for suspending both opened and concealed carry laws. the 30 day ban was announced by new mexico's governor after two children were shot in albuquerque. >> it is time to declare an end to this kind of violence. it is , in fact, an epidemic. we have to stand up as americans and say enough is enough. >> stop going after inanimate objects and go after the real problem. the criminals. >> the governor says she's prepared to fight any legal challenge. >> president biden wraps up his visit to vietnam this morning. he says the visit is more about building better relations than

simply trying to contain china. the president flies home today, stopping in alaska for remarks about september 11th. >> today marks 22 years since the attacks of 9/11. and for many americans, that september morning is a distant memory. but for so many others, it is a constant reminder of bravery and sacrifice. here's abc's derick dennis latsch. >> that night, the tribute in lights shined upward during a test hours before the official tribute to the victims of the world trade center attacks. two. two years ago today, robert gray worked for norad. that day, monitoring us airspace. he visited the world trade center site last night. as we walked into this area, it made me start to weep. 2753 people died in lower manhattan. that day. and just this weekend, the remains of two more were identified by the medical examiner. 40% of those lost are still unidentified. we saw this plane flying out of a very low

altitude and extremely fast. >> but it was so low i could read on the fuselage the word american, joe pfeifer, was the first fire chief on the scene. >> his job sending firefighters in to save lives, including his own brother, kevin. i ordered him as i ordered many of my other fire officers to take their unit and go upstairs to evacuate the building. kevin died in the collapse of the towers, but many others were saved by the men and women who rushed into those buildings, knowing they might not come out alive. james broz, president of the uniformed fire officers association, lost his father a fire department lieutenant who responded to the scene. he died just this year from a 9/11 related cancer. 341 members of new york's fire department have now succumbed to ground zero related illnesses as well. >> unfortunately, the exposure of that day and the days that follow during the rescue and recovery efforts have really started to take its toll. my brother was also in the collapse

sexual violence. the news comes six years after the conviction of former school doctor larry nassar. he overseas luis rubiales, has resigned as the head of spain's soccer federation. three weeks after kissing a player on the lips at the world cup. his resignation comes after prosecutors filed a criminal complaint. >> we turn now to florida and one boy's quick thinking by the pool that helped save a life. austin macmillan says he learned his life saving technique from the same place many other 12 year old boys get their information. >> i gave him cpr. >> and where did you learn to do that? >> i just saw on tv. >> austin was in his backyard in florida with jason paquette, a behavioral therapist who helps young adults gain strength by training in real life situations during a recent session, home security video shows austin pulling jason from the bottom of his family's pool. austin starts to run to get help, but jason
