happened here. the break was on fillmore at union and then just two blocks away, the sinkhole opened up on green and it has ballooned in size from there. >> just look at these images. our sky seven caught overhead during the day today. >> abc seven news reporter jared stone has been talking to neighbors and businesses about those repairs. happening now. >> crews working into the night in san francisco to fix a water main break that happened late sunday and led to a sinkhole monday, 20 minutes, one 30 minutes that's been going. you're looking at video recorded on fillmore street in the cow hollow neighborhood of san francisco sunday night. >> water was, you know, kind of like a river gushing and coming. you could see it was coming all the way down the street. >> cyril collick recorded this video sunday at union and fillmore street. and this is what it looked like on monday evening. the sand and water clear from that area. i'm in shock. >> i mean, we live right down

the street and we didn't even know this was going on. it does feel like the city is getting pretty old. >> but while there is a multi-billion dollar plan to improve infrastructure here, including replacing pipes in san francisco, crews tell us the water main that broke was installed in 1949. old but not nearly as old as some in san francisco. >> san francisco has pipes that are well over 100 years old, some of them are brick, and this one was a cast iron. >> some businesses like the wilder sf bar, were flooded with mud, water and sand. >> and it's utter chaos. i mean, the floor is caked in mud and then underneath that a layer of water. others could see the water from their surveillance video but were situated on higher ground saying this is just the latest water main break in this area, but not as bad as this one. >> this is probably the worst i've seen it, the most water that i've seen going down in damage. >> it looked like a flash flood

is the best way i could describe it. >> as for the fix, as of 940 monday night, crews have replaced and fixed the water main that broke, but they will remain on scene. cleaning up the street is also badly damaged. and now in need of repair. j.r. stone, abc seven news in the east bay oakland business owners are calling for city leaders to take action to combat robberies and burglaries. >> it comes as a merchants association was expected to meet with opd tonight. oklahoma police confirmed to abc seven news there investigating at least two burglaries in the last week. video here shows a group of people using a car to break into a store. police say thieves are targeting stores carrying expensive items such as jewelry and electronics. some business owners say they are losing tens of thousands of dollars. >> we're paying taxes. we pay city tax, property tax, business tax. we pay all these taxes and everything is where's the protection you call 911. it takes five minutes. just to get through today, the city of

out there tomorrow? sandhya? a little bit of fog and breezy conditions and julian, let's take a look at a live picture right now from our mount tam cam . >> you see that fog just kind of hovering. it's not everywhere. so first thing in the morning, we're looking at areas of fog at 7 a.m, mid to upper 50s. i think you'll need that extra layer in the morning. but later in the afternoon you will notice that it is breezy and cooler than today. we're out of the 90s. you're going to be in the low 60s to mid 80s by 4:00 pm and then once the sun sets, temperatures will come down as that breeze picks up even more upper 50s to the low 70s. we do have some changes coming midweek . i'll be back with those details coming up. julian >> okay. we'll see you in just a moment. thank you. sandhya let's jump into tonight's abc seven deep dive at 11. it's our chance to dig a little more into a storyline or an issue out there that you might be wanting more clarity on. and tonight, we're jumping to the new covid boosters just approved by the fda today. those shots just need the final cdc sign off before being shipped out. abc seven news reporter tim john spoke

with several doctors tonight to get those answers for you here in real time. tim. yeah julian. >> now both pfizer and moderna say testing shows their new boosters are effective against the variant, e.g. a five that's currently the dominant covid strain here in the us and the one that's been responsible for the rise in hospitalizations recently. on monday, we got another step closer to updated covid 19 boosters. the food and drug administration approving new shots from both pfizer and moderna. it's now up to the cdc, which is expected to give the new vaccines, the final approval groups that i would really hope would get it would be those who are older and 65 and those who are immune compromised of any age. >> dr. peter chin-hong is an infectious disease expert at ucsf. >> he and other physicians are advising those most at risk to strongly consider getting the shot as soon as possible. everyone, five and older will become eligible once the cdc signs off. and doctors say even healthy kids and adults should consider getting one. if you're around older people like your

parents or your grandparents, i think it's up to you whether you want to do things to reduce the risk you might bring along of transmitting the virus to them. dr. mike wasserman was a part of the california vaccine advisory committee. he says in recent weeks, both cases of covid 19 and hospitalizations have been rising, thanks to a new variant . dr. wasserman says vaccination remains the best tool to fight against severe disease. >> this virus can still be deadly and it can still really knock you for a loop. >> covid is just one virus worrying health officials ahead of the winter months, though cases of flu as well as rsv are expected to pick up in the months ahead, creating a possible tripledemic even though you'll have to get separate jabs for each of those. for now, dr. chin-hong says that soon could be changing. >> i think we might be able to see that as soon as next year and certainly the year after. we're hoping that it would be two shots and one needle for

this year. but it's just a matter of time. >> the cdc is expected to meet and discuss the updated vaccines tomorrow. that means if approved, they could become available at certain pharmacies and doctor's offices within just a few days time. in the studio, tim johns, abc seven news. okay >> thank you so much, tim. california fast food workers can expect to see some bigger paychecks in a new deal to increase wages. the labor and fast food industry announced a deal today that will raise minimum wage for its workers to $20 an hour. that's nearly a $5 pay raise from the current $15 minimum wage. the raise will apply to most fast food restaurants in the state that are part of a chain with at least 60 locations nationwide. the pay increase will go into effect next year. and new tonight, a bill that would provide unemployment insurance to picketing hollywood writers and actors is now one step closer to the governor's desk. the california assembly passed that bill today. it now heads to the senate. the bill comes as the wga and sag-aftra members have been on strike for months

>> let me show you a live picture. you can see the marine layer regrouping as we look from our emeryville camera and those temperatures are going down. so we're talking about cooler weather. we had low 90s today. tomorrow we're going to drop you down from santa rosa, 91 to 86. five degrees cooler there. san francisco coming down to 68 degrees in san jose from 84 today to 79. tomorrow, you'll notice it by a couple of degrees in oakland from 75 to 72. here's a live view from our sfo camera and you will have good air quality just like today. the next couple of days, the breeze is certainly going to help to bring that good air quality. there's a trough that is really just going to dry, have a dry cold front through here and it's not going to bring us any rain. but what it will do is bring in that cooler air mass and kick up those winds. so right now, we do have some fog right near the coast and around parts of the bay. wind is also a little breezy out there, 24 miles an hour onshore coming off the ocean water. and that is going

to ramp up as we head towards tomorrow afternoon, which will help to drive those temperatures down as well. low 70s inland in brentwood right now, but 59 degrees in half moon bay, your ocean temperature is 58. so it's coming off that cool water. you know what that means from our exploratorium camera, we are looking at a foggy view of san francisco. so areas of fog during the overnight hours, breezy and cooler tomorrow afternoon. and we're really only expecting minor ups and downs in the temperatures this week. so no major swings. first thing in the morning we will start out with some fog and then the fog will clear out for most areas in the afternoon as those winds pick up. so let's look at the winds hour by hour, breezy tomorrow morning, which is why you may need to bundle up as we do start out on the cooler side. nights are getting longer. you may have noticed as we go into the afternoon here, 24 to 25 mile an hour winds. and that is what's going to help to continue the drop off in the numbers. your morning temperatures in the 50s, 60s out the door tomorrow afternoon and you are looking at
