leading to an arrest after what authorities describe as an ambush style attack. racy . hundreds of people gathered at the palmdale sheriff's station in southern california last night honoring ryan clincoln for. the los angeles county deputy shot and killed in an apparent ambush at a red light. >> there is a lot of anger in a lot of people. it's heartbreaking. >> the vigil coming after investigators revealed a new clue in their search for the deputies killer. they're calling this dark gray toyota corolla a vehicle of interest without warning. >> he was murdered while serving our community. >> this surveillance video obtained by our station, kabc, is now part of the investigation showing deputy clincoln bruner's patrol car at an intersection just seconds after he left the palmdale station, a dark colored vehicle slowly pulls up to the driver's side of the patrol car. it slows down, then speeds off. deputy clinton bruner was later found slumped over inside the

car and died at the hospital. his murder comes just days after the 30 year old got engaged to be married. >> he was a son. he was a grandson. he had just been engaged four days ago. he had so much ahead of him. and this coward or cowards took his life with the gunman on the loose overnight, off duty deputies told abc news they're now being careful not to wear anything identifiable. >> in the meantime, nearby residents are being asked to check home surveillance cameras to apprehending the suspects. >> and i'm going to continue to refer to them as cowards because that's what they are, cowards to attack a deputy sheriff in uniform in a black and white whose just sitting there at a red light. >> authorities have not revealed a motive, but it does come amid an increase in threats against law enforcement by extremists online. >> in the other big story this morning, talks are expected to resume today as auto workers threaten to expose and their

strike against gm, ford and chrysler. the walkout is igniting passions on both sides of the political aisle. this morning, autoworkers not pumping the brakes as they enter their first full week, striking against detroit's big three carmakers. nearly 13,000 are on picket lines in three states. the united auto workers union says it met with general motors yesterday and had reasonably productive conversations with ford this weekend. and stellantis, chrysler's parent company says it raised its offer to a nearly 21% raise in hourly wages, but still no deal. and workers are feeling the effects. gm has announced temporary layoffs for 2000 non striking employees. ford is doing the same to 600. the uaw is demanding a return to pensions, better benefits for retirees, cost of living adjustments and a 40% pay increase, which it says

is on par with what ceos have received. >> we'll amp up the pressure. we'll take more plants out. >> politicians on both sides of the aisle weighing in if new technology is going to make us a more productive society, the benefits should go to the workers. >> i'm somebody that believes in free enterprise. i think. i think those are decisions that can be made by by shareholders, owners and creating pressure. no wait. >> meanwhile, in hollywood, talks are set to resume this week aimed at ending the writers strike, which has dragged on since may. talk show host drew barrymore, who had announced she was bringing back her show despite the strike, has now reversed course, apologizing in a now deleted video. >> i deeply apologize to writers . i deeply apologize to union. and i just want everyone to know my intentions have never been in a place to upset or hurt anyone

one. >> as for the autoworkers, the uaw is expected to meet today with stellantis and ford. >> today, illinois becomes the first state to eliminate cash bail, according to a new state law, judges can still detain defendants awaiting trial, but money can no longer be a condition of their release. supporters of the law say cash bail is unfair to poor people, but critics argue this will put more criminals back on the street. >> lawmakers are demanding more information about a prisoner swap between the us and iran. the swap involves the us releasing $6 billion in frozen iranian funds overseas in exchange for the release of five americans that are being held in iran. abc's justin finch is here now with more. justin, good morning. >> rihanna good morning. iran releasing those five detained americans today. they include a business executive and an environmentalist. the men are being released in exchange for the us unfreezing $6 million in iranian oil revenue, along with releasing five iranians in us

custody. critics compare it to paying a ransom. the head of the senate intelligence committee, mark warner, expressing concern about what iran may do with that $6 billion. he wants more details on the constraints being placed on that money. the biden administration has said it will make sure the money goes only toward humanitarian causes, not to iran's nuclear program. but it remains unclear here how exactly the us would make sure of that. andrew >> justin finch for us in washington, dc. justin, thank you. new video from the flooding disaster in libya now it shows cars swept away by a wall of water after two dams failed during a severe storm. more than 11,000 people are confirmed dead, but another 10,000 are still unaccounted for. abc's ian pannell is there. well take a look at this. >> that bridge there is something like 4 or 5 stories high and yet the water obviously came over the top, destroying the bridge and then roaring through here out to sea.

>> experts in libya say they warned about the dams for months, but nothing was done to improve them. >> now to the controversy in the music industry. the co-founder of rolling stone magazine has been removed from his leadership position at the rock and roll hall of fame because of what he said about black and female artists. here's abc's derek dennis. >> this morning, rolling stone magazine co-founder jann wenner faces a firestorm of controversy over remarks he made to the new york times about the singers and musicians he chose and did not choose to profile in his new book entitled the masters the people i interviewed had to meet a couple of criteria. >> one, just kind of my personal interest in love of them insofar as the women i mean, there were just none of them were as articulate enough on this intellectual level. >> winners profiles were of white male performers, including mick jagger, john lennon and bono, while notable women and black performers were not profiled.

exclusive breaks this morning on good morning america. to all. >> we are back now with a tragic crash during the national championship air races in reno. two pilots were killed when their planes collided after landing. a pilot also died during last year's race. an overseas an italian air force jet or pieces of it hit a car that was carrying a family during an air show in turin, killing a young girl. authorities say the jet may have hit a bird before it crashed. >> a daycare operator in new york city is among two people facing murder charges after a baby's death. he was allegedly exposed to fentanyl. investigator say they found drugs in the home base daycare. three other children were

hospitalized. a recent study found overdose deaths involving fentanyl are up more than 14,000% since 2010. >> some people on social security are describing a nightmare. they are being told they owe thousands of dollars back to the government because of a mistake. back this morning , overpayment, outrage after some americans who received social security benefits were told to give back tens of thousands of dollars. >> i'm literally at the point of frustration and i'm so scared. >> lori, a former postal service employee in florida, has received about $900 a month since 2001. but social security wants more than $120,000 back because of a mistake on their end. >> i went to my mailbox and a letter from social security and it was a demand letter for $121,000 payable in 30 days. >> lori says she had to sell her house. >> so, yeah, no, no money in my
