>> good wednesday morning, everyone. i'm ryan and i'm andrew dymburt. >> we begin with new concerns along the southern border right now. >> authorities are reporting a spike in migrant crossings. one official calling it a wave that's turning into a flood. >> some of the migrants are being bused to northern cities. and last night, emotions boiled over in new york. here's abc's andrea fujii. >> the migrant crisis was on full display in new york city overnight. >> you can record it's okay. >> protesters blocking a bus carrying migrants heading to a former school being used as a shelter. the protesters expressing safety concerns more than 113,000 asylum seekers have arrived in new york city since last year. the mayor calling the influx unsustainable. this issue , you will destroy. >> new york city, it comes amid a new surge of migrants along the southern border. >> el paso, texas, has seen a spike in just the last week with more than 1200 migrants crossing their border every day. iban law

, a migrant from ecuador, is one of them. >> you know, it's not easy for us, he says. >> it's hard. very hard. i ask from the heart to help us. officials in el paso say they are trying to help housing more than 4200 migrants in hotels and establishing overflow facility. but they say many of the migrants are on the streets anyway, asking for money. this migrant says, because we cannot work, this is the easiest way to get money. little by little to get to our final destination. some officials say the last time they saw an influx of migrants like this was back in may before title 42 was repealed. in pima county, arizona. officials say more than 2000 migrants are now arriving daily. a county spokesperson saying, we are in a wave that seems to be turning into a flood customs and border protection has now suspended cargo processing in some areas to allow officers to help border patrol process migrants. for

most migrants, the journey to get to the us is extreme dangerous. a mexican railroad operator has now suspended dozens of northbound routes because of people dying on cargo trains heading north. andrew rhiannon. >> andrew, thank you for that. we have an update on that daycare tragedy in new york that we first told you about on monday. a one year old boy died after allegedly being exposed to fentanyl. now federal charges have been filed against the daycare's owner. she and another man are accused of exposing four kids to the drug. police say a kilo of fentanyl was stored on top of children's play mats. that is enough to kill a half a million people. and they say the daycare owner tried to delete 20,000 text messages from her phone before being arrested because they were running a drug operation run from a daycare center, a daycare center, a place where children should be kept safe, not surrounded by a drug that could kill them in an instant. the daycare owner's husband is still on the run.

>> president biden is calling for billions of additional us aid for the war in ukraine. but some lawmakers are saying not so fast. after addressing the un yesterday, ukraine's president now heads to washington, where he could face more opposition than expected as he looks for more help. abc's justin finch is here now with those details. justin, good morning. >> andrew good morning. despite appeals for continued ukraine support from presidents biden and zelensky, that sentiment is now fading among many capitol hill republicans now calling for the us to cut its ukraine spending. president joe biden on the world stage encouraging united nations general assembly members to keep standing with ukraine in its near two year fight against russia. >> russia believes that the world will grow weary and allow it to brutalize ukraine without consequence. >> ukraine pains president zelensky, echoing biden, warning the world against folding to war fatigue. >> the goal of the present war

against ukraine is to turn our land, our people, our lives, our resources into a weapon against you, against the international rules based order. >> zelensky now set for a return visit to washington tomorrow, where a federal government shutdown looms as congress feuds over funding, including for ukraine. last year, zelensky addressed a joint meeting of congress to wide bipartisan support. but this year, there's no money. >> it's not a good time for him to be here, quite frankly. any money we give to ukraine, we're borrowing from our future leadership in the now republican led house is slamming the white house's $24 billion proposal for ukraine security and humanitarian aid includes house speaker kevin mccarthy. >> i don't think you have to commit anything. where's the accountability on the money we've already spent? what is the plan for victory? >> the speaker reversing course after telling a russian reporter in may that he will continue supporting ukraine. the president insisting the us can't

double back. now with the world and history watching as we face a moment of great upheaval, a moment where basic principles like sovereignty, territorial integrity, universal human rights are being tested. and president zelensky is set for a third white house meeting with president biden tomorrow and for capitol hill meetings with house and senate members as well. rhiannon >> all right, justin, thank you for that. now to the economy and the rising price of oil and gas. oil just hit $95 a barrel due to production cuts. that is one reason why gas prices are climbing now, averaging 3.88 per gallon nationwide. average prices in southern california now topped $6. meanwhile, at its meeting today, the federal reserve is expected to leave interest rates until changed due to recent progress in fighting inflation. but those gas prices could jeopardize that progress. >> now to the death of a fan in the stands of an nfl stadium.

video shows a fight breaking out during the miami new england game last weekend, but many questions still remain in. investigators near boston are waiting for autopsy results to help determine if charges will be filed in the death of a new england patriots fan. 53 year old dale mooney was at gillette stadium in foxborough for sunday's dolphins game. video shows him in a patriots jersey and hat getting into a row of seats when the fight breaks out . >> i just saw a guy in a dolphins jersey come over. he delivered two punches and at that point, everybody kind of let go of the guy and he fell back into his seat and he unfortunately never, never woke up. >> witnesses say mooney was punched at least twice in the head, never regaining consciousness. >> s it was tough to watch. we're trying to do cpr for at least 10 to 15 minutes, according to mooney's friends. >> also at the game, they were verbally taunted by other fans as it takes a lot to get him mad and he has the patience of a saint. >> i just don't understand what happened. >> mooney's wife tells our boston station wcvb she's in

disbelief. >> f i just feel numb. i just can't even believe this is for real. >> fan violence at sporting events, especially among rival supporters, is a long running problem. multiple violent fights were reported at the jets cowboys game sunday and in cincinnati this man was already being detained at the bengals game when he headbutted another fan. one oh. oh my god. the sheriff's office says the man who appeared in this widely distributed video now faces assault charges back in new england. the patriots say they're heartbroken by mooney's death. >> it's just a game. nothing should cause violence from it at all. >> mooney's wife says he had no medical condition that she was aware of. >> this next story is being watched very closely in the restaurant industry. raises could soon be on the way for workers in chicago. the city council is expected to announce a proposal today requiring restaurants to pay tipped workers a minimum wage. right now, the restaurant servers are only being paid 60% of chicago's minimum wage. if the proposal is

approved today, it will advance to a full council vote next month. >> time now for a look at your wednesday weather. storm brought strong wind, rain and large hail to northern texas. some of the hailstones as big as baseballs. more rain is expected in the southern plains today. looking at the radar, rain will extend from texas to the upper midwest today, all the way to the pacific northwest. but rain is also possible in florida. in california, poor air quality is expected in the bay area due to wildfire smoke and checking today's today's high temperatures hot across texas and the southwest. but mid 70s for the northeast. amazon delivery driver comes face to face with a rattlesnake . >> also ahead, new crash tests raising safety concerns when it comes to some popular minivans and later, millions of people who play a popular video game

this morning on gma. >> we are back now with an amazon driver in the hospital after being bitten by a venomous rattlesnake. she was making a delivery in palm city, florida, when a coiled eastern diamondback lashed out police body. camera video shows her being treated. she was listed in serious condition. a car safety group has some troubling news for minivan drivers. >> the insurance institute for highway safety rated four popular brands less than acceptable in new crash tests. the chrysler pacifica, honda odyssey, kia carnival and toyota, sienna all rated no better than marginal in terms of rear passenger safety. the honda got a poor rating. the testers said all of the vehicles leave rear passengers vulnerable to chest injuries due to seatbelt issues.

>> as a dramatic rescue on the road in georgia, a teenager became trapped beneath his own car. >> you, me, he can't breathe. you are going to lift this car up right now? >> yes. >> new video shows the moment a georgia police officer and a group of bystanders lift a nearly two ton car to save a teenager's life. >> it happened near atlanta around 11 p.m. sergeant michael peterson spots a speeding car and follows it. moments later, he sees the car overturned. >> and please help us out. please help us get on out. you on out. >> three teenage passengers are able to crawl out of the upside down vehicle, but one is stuck inside the teens. tell sergeant peterson, the 19 year old driver flew out of the sunroof and is now being crushed beneath the car, struggling to breathe. >> can you breathe? can you? >> you can't breathe. >> peterson instructs the teens to help him lift the car. >> you, me, he can't breathe. >> you are going to lift this
