to the north and east of us and those northwesterly winds transporting the smoke and the bad air quality. see current conditions right now for sensitive groups and everyone else. very unhealthy out there. so that's why we have our air quality advisory continuing today into thursday, 59, nevada , we have low clouds and fog as well. we're 60 in the south bay. and a look outside, it'll be gray for quite some time. then we'll get into the hazy conditions throughout the afternoon and then looking at those gusty winds in the hills of the north bay, portions of marin, i should say sonoma and also napa, parts of vacaville. and looking at altimira, living on friday night. here's a look at the north bay. and we have a south wind in general stopping this at 11:00 tonight. and you notice the wind gusts here over 30 miles an hour. it ramps up to 40 miles an hour. and that decreases the moisture in the atmosphere. so it's extra dry out there. and here's another look at that trough sliding to the south and east of us. so it's going to be today into late thursday until we get into our usual westerly winds. then we'll
5:40 am
have a nice weekend and then perhaps look at that monday night into tuesday. we could be welcoming in the first precip of the season awfully early, don't you think, for mid september. but as for today, hazy, smoky, low 70s in oakland. we'll be welcome to big tobacco's fantasyland. a new, healthier world without cigarettes. as long as you don't count the 6 trillion sold worldwide every year.

5:49 am
tomorrow for moderate air quality. so not much has changed. in fact, getting a little worse before it gets better. 59in nevada, we saw a yesterday how hazy it was out there, 59 in fremont. not much of a change simply because the upper level winds already look at them. they're strengthening mount saint helena here, 22 miles an hour. so they'll continue to strengthen. they'll continue to come down out of the north. and that is just cutting off that onshore flow that brings us our free air conditioning right? so that's going to resume as we get into the overnight hours, thursday into friday. but our fire danger index goes up with those winds out of the north. so throughout the overnight hours, we're going from moderate to high here just where those winds will be, gusting to 30 to 40 miles an hour. parts of sonoma to parts of around vacaville and napa county. so keep that in mind. hazy conditions that hasn't changed. temperatures mainly in the 60s, downtown, low to mid 70s bay shore, maybe a few 80s. but we have the haze that will

>> yeah, the weekend is going to be nice. first weekend of fall. we'll get out of this muck here, this smoke by friday. and that should set up a good weekend. but as for right now, air quality, as you know, very bad out there from all the smoke being transported from the fires down from the north. and you can see we're in the red here. parts of the peninsula, the south bay, the oranges. and that means it's a good idea to keep those windows closed and get into the recirculating. some of that air inside your house. there's a look at the yellows which indicate we're going to be hazy again today, taking this through thursday into thursday night. still in the yellows and the light green there. so it's friday when we begin to see this trough head out of town and get a return to that onshore wind flow that will bring good air quality and those blue skies back. 63. in hayward, it is 62. in union city and we have patches of fog. this will all lift for some sun mixed in with the haze and the smoke out there. but temperature wise, really that's doesn't change as we get into your friday. still
5:57 am
60s and 70s. and then we want to see a couple degrees of warming warming for saturday. but you'll notice really not much change out there. so we'll be looking at comfortable temperatures. and once the smoke moves out into your friday, we'll be back to those westerly winds transporting that cooler and cleaner air our way. but as for today, that advisory stands and we're looking at a fire weather watch as we get into tonight for the hills of the interior valleys of the north bay. back to you guys. >> thank you, lisa. new at six, kitty litter shortage. what's causing supplies of this necessary pet product to run low? >> and a teenage thrill seeker is forced to be rescued after getting stuck dangling under a california bridge. and the rally outside san francisco city hall to support the city's reparations plan. first, this live look outside. it is 557. we're coming right back
