news. silva de silva team. >> it's the final home game of the season for the a's and looks to be the beginning of the end of their time in oakland. >> frustrated fans delivering a now familiar message to ownership as the team's future remains firmly up in the air. thank you all for joining us. i'm stephanie sierra. we begin in the east bay as oakland a's fans soaked in the last home game of the season, many hoped to be back next year, but with a move to las vegas in the works, fans remain unsettled about next season. that was felt in the crowd today as fans urged a's owner john fisher not to move the team. abc7 news reporter cornell bernard has the details . so the team sell the team. >> oakland a's fans had a pre-game march to the coliseum sunday with a loud message for team owner john fisher in oakland. i guess our feeling is, is anger and fight. george leon

is from the oakland 68. one group trying to keep the team from moving to las vegas. they even hired a plane with a banner urging fishers mom doris to make her son sell. >> we're calling on john fisher's mom to come and do something about this horrible situation in that they claim they're stewards of the bay area. but technically they're not if they're moving a team from our community. >> on the last a's home game of the season, fans were feeling sad and uneasy about the future. >> to think about like this may be the last time that i'm saying goodbye is pretty hard, but i'm still trying to be optimist that next year that will we'll have a season here. >> the team's lease, the coliseum is set to expire after the 2024 season. >> i try not to think about it, but it is in the back of my mind because they you know, they have it. they have the lease through next year. but but with everything that has happened so far, i'm almost convinced that they won't be here next year if it gets built. >> the team's new stadium in

vegas likely won't be done until 2028. and where the team plays in the interim is unknown. some oakland fans say they should find a different ballpark now. >> it's like when you break up with a significant other and they still living in the house with you like get them out uh. so but once until there's a shovel in the ground, then the fight isn't over. >> a message made clear by a's fans in the outfield unfurling this banner on the last game of the season in oakland will never quit in oakland, cornell bernard, abc seven news. >> well, there is a lot that still needs to happen before the a's are officially gone from oakland. their coliseum lease expires in 2024. team owners are awaiting a vote from major league baseball owners approving the move to las vegas. 75% of owners would need to vote yes. the las vegas review-journal says that vote is expected by mid-november. now the team has purchased land and secured public funding from the state of nevada for a brand new baseball stadium along the vegas strip. but it's not projected to open

until 2028. it's not clear where the team would play until then as well. to weather now and a cold front moving in. that's bringing a chance of rain and cleaner air to the bay area over the next few days. here's a live look at conditions outside right now across the region. the air quality looking better than it has in several days. spencer is tracking the latest, including more on that chance of moisture. >> this is a pretty good chance, steph, as a matter of fact, the wet weather system approaching us is pushing out the haze that was associated with yesterday's spare the air alert. so it's definitely improving our air quality right now. the larger system up in the pacific northwest associated with the rain coming our way is having a beneficial effect on the wildfires in western oregon and washington and northwestern california. now, let's watch the timeline here on the forecast animation for the bay area. we'll see increasing clouds tonight and into the morning hours. morning commuters will see cloudy skies, but it'll be dry for the commute. but see that system swinging down into

the ukiah cloverdale area? well, later in the day, afternoon and evening, tomorrow, we'll see that system producing rainfall for much of the north bay. it'll be mainly light rain and going into early tuesday morning, a few showers may reach south and east of the golden gate, but not much as to not much is expected from this system except maybe 1 or 2 hundredths of an inch of rainfall. however for santa rosa, cloverdale may get up to about 707 inch and ukiah, just under 2/10 of an inch of rain. and of course, cleaner air along with the rainfall. i'll have more on the accuweather seven day forecast which is looking pretty good a little bit later steph. >> we look forward to that. thank you spencer. well, the potential rain in the north bay is welcome news to cal fire's sonoma lake napa unit. they say october is the most destructive month in california for fire and they're still hard at work to prevent them from spreading. we're still doing fuel modification work. >> we're not resting on our laurels at all. those fires can start. and with the winds that we get in, the north bay can escalate very quickly. and we

want to avoid that if we can. so we need our community. your viewership, to maintain that vigilance until we really get into some really wetting rain. >> a good reminder, it was wildfires in southern oregon, in far northern california that led to this poor air quality here in the bay area this week. so they're reminding people the threat still exists. for more information on fireproofing, your home and property, you can head to, ready for wildfire .org in the south bay now a fire underneath highway 87in san jose burned up a large part of a homeless encampment this morning . the fire department was able to get a handle on the situation and put out the flames. but tents shade structures, beds and all sorts of belongings were destroyed. a huge smoke cloud, slightly impacted the section of highway 87, above it near willow street. nearby light rail trains were temporarily halted as a precaution after after five months on strike, the writers guild of america could finally

reach a deal with major film and tv studios. this after four consecutive days of talks directly between the wga and the ceos. of the four major studios . the studios delivered what they say is the best and final offer to writers last night. the wga, representing 11,000 writers, could sign off on the agreement as soon as today. but to get hollywood moving again, the studios must settle a deal with the actors of sag-aftra next. well, nasa is celebrating the return of a spacecraft that may have brought home the answers to some of earth's oldest mysteries. as the 4 billion year old piece of cargo brought back from space is bringing with it a valuable gift . we'll explain. also, covid tests. the federal government is ready to start giving them away for free once again. we'll tell you how

cyrus rex mission. a mission complete osiris-rex from the edge of space. >> 63,000 miles away, releasing a capsule containing some precious cargo. a piece of an asteroid, 4.5 billion years old. four hours later, that capsule, the size of a car tire. landing in the dugway proving grounds in utah. recovered teams and a carefully rehearsed effort bag the capsule quickly to lower the risk of contamination, then delivering it to a hangar on the military base where it will be flown to the johnson space center in houston on monday for further study. >> we'll be able to start evaluating those samples and providing them to the scientific community. >> the seven year long mission, which cost over $1 billion, captured samples of the asteroid bennu, which scientists hope will help them understand the origins of life on earth. >> bringing these samples back here on earth gives us so much

right now. and over in the delta area, 20 mile per hour winds at rio vista. here is a look at mainly sunny sky over san francisco from our sutro tower, canada camera. current temperature readings are in the upper 60s at san francisco and oakland. we've got 70 degrees at mountain view mid 70s at san jose and palo alto and 64 at half moon bay. beautiful view at the golden gate. just a few clouds in the sky right now. mainly blue sky. for the moment we have temperature readings right now in the low 70s at santa rosa, novato and napa, 76 at fairfield and 72 apiece at concord and livermore. and a stunning view from emeryville looking westward toward the golden gate. these are our forecast headlines. we'll see clouds increasing overnight. north bay showers late tomorrow into early tuesday morning and then sunny and mild autumn days will follow for the remainder of the week. now for tonight, under those increasingly cloudy skies, look for low temperatures mainly in the mid or mid to upper 50s and then highs tomorrow with cloudy skies mainly in the low to mid 70s right around the bay

shoreline. we'll see some mid 60s on the coast. so fairly mild on the coast tomorrow and inland areas will see highs in the mid to upper 70s. now let's take a look at the forecast animation starting at noon tomorrow. notice this line of rain and showers sweeping southward by late afternoon, early evening, it'll be raining up around ukiah , maybe even in cloverdale and then into the later evening and nighttime hours. we'll see further expansion extension of the rain through the north bay. this will be mainly light rainfall at places like santa rosa point razed much of sonoma , marin and napa counties. not much rain will fall south or east of the golden gate until the wee hours of tuesday morning. and then it'll all wind down. we expect rainfall totals to be no more, no more than a couple of hundredths of an inch, except farther north, a little bit wetter in places like santa rosa and cloverdale and a beach hazard statement will be in effect late monday night into tuesday evening for large breakers up to 14 to 16ft, elevated wave heights, obviously, and possibly dangerous rip currents. here's
