it's the final home game of the season for the a's and looks to be the biggest inning of the end frustrated fans delivering a now familiar message to ownership as the team's future remains firmly up in the air. >> good evening and thanks for joining us. i'm stephanie sierra. we begin in the east bay now as oakland fans soaked up the last home game of the season, many hope to be back next year. but with a move to las vegas, the future remains unseasoned and uncertain. that is abc7 news reporter cornell bernard has the latest. so the team sell the team. >> oakland a's fans had a pre-game march to the coliseum sunday with a loud message for team owner john fisher in oakland. i guess our feeling is anger and fight. george leon is

from the oakland 68. one group trying to keep the team from moving to las vegas. they even hired a plane with a banner urging fishers mom doris to make her son sell. >> we're calling on john fisher's mom to come and do something about this horrible situation that they claim they're stewards of the bay area, but technically they're not. if they're moving a team from our community. >> on the last a's home game of the season, fans were feeling sad and uneasy about the future . >> to think about like this may be the last time that i'm saying goodbye is pretty hard, but i'm still trying to be optimistic that next year that we'll have a season here. >> the team's lease, the coliseum, is set to expire after the 2024 season. >> i try not to think about it, but it is in the back of my mind because they, you know, they have it. they have the lease through next year. but with everything that has happened so far, i'm almost convinced that they won't be here next year. >> if it gets built. the team's new stadium in vegas likely won't be done until 2028 and

where the team plays in the interim is unknown. some oakland fans say they should find a different ballpark now. >> it's like when you break up with a significant other and they still living in the house with you like get them out. so but once until there's a shovel in the ground, then the fight isn't over. >> a message made clear by a's fans in the outfield unfurling this banner on the last game of the season in oakland will never quit. in oakland, cornell bernard, abc seven news. well there is a lot that still needs to happen before the a's are officially gone from oakland. >> their coliseum lease expires in 2024. team owners are awaiting a vote from major league baseball owners approving the move to las vegas 75% of owners would need to vote yes. the las vegas review-journal says that vote is expected by mid november. for now, the team has purchased land and secured public funding from the state of nevada for a brand new baseball stadium along the vegas strip. but it's not projected to open until 2028. it's not clear where

the team would play until then. to weather now and a cold front moving in, bringing a chance of rain and cleaner air to the bay area over the next few days. here's a live look at conditions outside right now across the region. the air quality looking better than it has in several days. spencer is tracking the latest, including more on that incoming moisture. spencer >> okay, steph. yes, the storm is getting closer. well, it's not really a storm for us. it's a line of showers. but there is a storm associated with it in the pacific northwest, which is having a beneficial effect on the firefighting efforts of the wildfires in western washington and oregon. now, let's take a look at our forecast animation here in the bay area. you see that overnight, we'll just see clouds increasing. so morning commuters will have dry conditions, but cloudy skies now later in the day, look at that front sweeping down, though, or that line of showers to our north that's going to produce rain in the northernmost part of our viewing area during the late afternoon hours up around ukiah, down to down towards the

northern part of sonoma county. later in the evening, we'll see that rain becoming more widespread. light rain, but it will be mainly a northbay event until the wee hours of tuesday morning. that's when we'll see some of those showers and periods of light rain moving down into south and east of the of the golden gate into the peninsula and parts of the east bay. now, rainfall totals from this storm will be very, very light. most locations that receive any measurable rain at all will receive no more than about two hundredths of an inch. however farther north up around cloverdale and farther north, we'll see higher rainfall totals than that. and the area is going to continue to get cleaner. and of course, that little bit of rainfall will also reduce the chances of wildfires as i'll have the full accuweather seven day forecast a little bit later steph. >> thank you spencer. speaking of that rain it is welcome news to the north bay cal fire sonoma lake napa unit. they say october is the most destructive month in california for fire and they're still hard at work to prevent them from spreading. >> we're still doing fuel modification work. we're not resting on our laurels at all.

those fires can start and with the winds that we get in, the north bay can escalate very quickly. and we want to avoid that. if we can. so we need our community. your viewership to maintain that vigilance until we really get into some really wetting rain. >> it was wildfires in southern oregon and far northern california that led to poor air quality in the bay area this week. so the reminding people the threat still exists. for more information on fireproofing your home and property, you can head to ready for wildfire dot org in the south bay. a fire underneath highway 87 in san jose burned up a large part of a homeless encampment this morning. thankfully the fire department was able to get a handle on the situation quickly and put out the flames. but tents, shade structures, beds and all sorts of belongings were destroyed. a huge smoke cloud slightly impacted. the section of highway 87, above it near willow street nearby light rail trains were temporarily halted

as a precaution. well, after five months on strike, a the writers guild of america could finally reach a deal with major film and tv studios. this after four consecutive days of talks directly between the wga and the ceos of the four major studios. the studios delivered what they say is the best and final offer to writers. last night, the wga , representing 11,000 writers, could sign off on the agreement as soon as today. but to get to hollywood, moving again, the studios must settle a deal with the actors of sag-aftra to next well, firefighters on the peninsula say they have brought out a smoky wildfire under control in pacifica this evening. the fire broke out just about an hour ago on hickey boulevard near inverness drive. it put up a lot of smoke visible throughout the area. firefighters from the north county fire authority say no structures were threatened. crews brought it under control about 20 minutes ago. they will stay on the scene for the next

droid. now nasa scientists are hoping this asteroid will give them some answers about the beginnings of life on earth. here's abc news reporter morgan norwood with the success of the osiris rex mission. >> mission complete. osiris-rex from the edge of space 63,00 miles away, releasing a capsule containing some precious cargo. a piece of an asteroid, 4.5 billion years old. four hours later, that capsule the size of a car tire. landing in the dugway proving grounds in utah.

recovery teams in a carefully rehearsed effort bag the capsule quickly to lower the risk of contamination. then delivering it to a hangar on the military base where it will be flown to the johnson space center in houston on monday for further study. >> we'll be able to start evaluating those samples and providing them to the scientific community. the seven year long mission, which cost over $1 billion, captured samples of the asteroid bennu, which scientists hope will help them understand the origins of life on earth. >> bringing these samples back here on earth gives us so much more capability to analyze them and truly understand, hopefully, the origins of our solar system . >> studying asteroids is critical for scientists around the world. in part for the fear that one could collide with our planet. nasa scientists predict a slim one. in 2700 chance that the asteroid bennu said to be as big as the empire state building could strike earth far, far into the future. in the year 2000, 182. there's something like

yes. well, you know, yesterday was a spare the air day. we had that haze still lingering. it's all out of here right now. and it's only only going to continue to improve over the next couple of days because of this approaching frontal system that's going to bring us a little bit of rainfall. right now, it's raining up in the pacific northwest and a line of showers and rain will swing down in our direction tomorrow. right now, we're just experiencing breezy conditions under mainly sunny skies. we've got wind speeds right now at the surface, up to about 15mph or so with occasional gusts. here's a view from sutro tower looking out over san francisco under mainly sunny skies, 65 degrees here in the city right now. we have upper 60s at oakland and mountain view, 7071 at san jose and palo alto and 63 at half moon bay at the golden gate. skies are mainly blue right now, but clouds are increasing as we look northward. the direction from which our rainfall is coming, other temperature readings right now, 68 at santa rosa, a low to mid 70s or low 70s, actually at novato, napa, fairfield and concord and 68 degrees at livermore. one final

live view of beautiful one from emeryville looking westward toward the golden gate. these are our forecast headlines. clouds will increase overnight. north bay showers will be with us late tomorrow into early tuesday morning and sunny and mild autumn days will follow for the remainder of the week. for tonight, under mostly cloudy skies, look for low temperatures generally in the mid 50s. then tomorrow, of course, more clouds and showers moving down from way up north. high temperatures will range from mid 60s at the coast which is pretty mild to mainly mid low and mid 70s around the bay shoreline to mid and upper 70s inland except in the north bay where it'll be a little bit cooler as the clouds thicken thicken we'll see upper 60s to low 70s in the north bay. so let's take a look at the forecast animation starting at noon tomorrow, we'll see this line of showers sweeping southward down to about ukiah and cloverdale in the afternoon hours. then in the early evening hours into the late night hours, we'll see the rainfall expanding across other parts of the north bay. but it will be mainly in north bay event until after

midnight tomorrow night into early tuesday morning. and then we'll see some light showers moving south and east of the golden gate, hitting other parts of the bay area. but it'll be mainly this entire rainfall event, a north bay event and rainfall totals will be generally very light, only a couple of hundredths of an inch in most places, although a little bit higher totals farther north around santa rosa, cloverdale, and up to ukiah. this will be beneficial rain because it'll continue to improve our air quality and reduce the chances of wildfires. here's the accuweather 70 forecast. after tomorrow's little bout of rainfall, we'll have sunny days all the way through the week into next weekend with high temperatures rising into the low to mid 80s inland through next weekend. >> now abc seven sports with chris alvarez 49 ers off to a three and zero start for the first time since the 2019 season. >> we all remember that ended in the super bowl appearance, by the way, they've scored exactly 30 points in each game so far. that's more than enough for this really good defense. take a look at this look from giants quarterback daniel jones that was trending on social media. so
