>> for the entire chain of amusement parks that you own. welcome to tuesdays. september 26th. >> yes. we're going to start the check of our forecast, drew. >> yeah, good morning. so we have a little bit of rain out there. here's a live look from the exploratorium camera. almost looks like a winter scene this morning. we have some light showers out there. it's not everywhere, but it's bringing good air quality for the rest of the week. here's live. doppler seven. it's a peppering of showers. the rain is over in the north bay where we have the light sprinkles as it's across the city. the east bay and along the peninsula. right now. we'll zoom in a little bit closer. we have rain over the bay bridge right now. some light showers as you move south towards the peninsula to 8101. is certainly wet in some areas. and the shower activity is going to linger through about 7 a.m. this morning for the next two hours. it's also warm and humid out there. we're starting in the 60s. so here's future weather by 8 a.m. any moisture is out of here and it's actually going to be a very sunny day with temperatures warm in the 70s and in the 80s. we'll take a closer look at that rain once again coming up in eight minutes.

let's check in with joe biden and see how traffic's doing. some of that wet pavement. good morning. >> thank you, drew. good morning, everybody. so, yes, you just saw drew show where the rain is on live doppler seven. i have the live cameras for you outside, especially that impact towards your commute, especially if you're on the richmond, san rafael bridge right now. lots of rain, droplets coming down, slick conditions, thankfully no blocking issues. but this kind of climate definitely makes for spinouts and we definitely usually see those around this time. so just take it slowly out there, because i was driving myself through the maze this morning towards the bay bridge toll plaza and it was very slick. our drive times here, tracy to dublin already creeping up at 40 minutes for that drive time. and with this weather, we anticipate that it'll get longer. and of course, we will continue to watch that for you, carmassi thanks, jobina. >> happening today in the east bay, dozens of oakland small business owners are planning to shut down for either part or all of the day to protest rising crime. recently the city missed its chance to get millions of dollars in grant money to help prevent retail theft. abc seven news reporter lena howland live

in oakland with more on what's expected in the protest today. lena kumar good morning. >> business owners tell us the goal of this strike is to send a larger message to city hall that they don't feel safe even in their own businesses. that's why dozens of these small businesses , including restaurants, convenience stores, clothing stores, even doctor's offices, are staging a strike, primarily from ten to noon today to draw attention to their desperation. although some merchants may choose to stay closed for the full day, some merchants say the crime has reached a breaking point in oakland and it's hurting their bottom line. restaurant partner of calvera ryan dixon gets emotional about the crime happening in oakland. now and how it's threatening the small business ecosystem that makes oakland, oakland. we are all dying literally and figuratively. >> um, so the business community has just gotten to the breaking point where every day somebody

else is having to choose to close their doors because they can no longer stay in business. whether they're getting broken into repeatedly, whether their staff is being. held up or assault or shootings in front of our businesses is just people are afraid to come to downtown oakland right now. keep in mind, this also comes in response to oakland missing out on millions of dollars of grant funding to help fight retail crime from the state after the city missed the deadline to apply. >> now, we are expecting the strike to start with a news conference outside of le cheval , a restaurant that's been in oakland for 38 years but recently announced its permanent closure because of crime and slow sales. post-pandemic. live in oakland. lena howland, abc seven news. >> lena thank you. president biden is set to make history

today, becoming the first sitting president in memory to join striking workers on the picket line. jobina his trip to michigan is the latest way that the president is showing his support for autoworkers. yeah so, reggie, so today is day 12 of the auto workers union strike against the big three auto manufacturers. >> that's gm, ford, chrysler, stellantis. so president biden's decision to stand alongside picketers underscores his allegiance to labor unions and a historian says they cannot recall an instance where a sitting president joined an ongoing strike strike. union members are demanding a number of changes including a 40% wage increase and better benefits, reinstating cost of living adjustments and pensions for all workers and an end to tiered and temporary employment where some employees are paid less for doing the same job. the president has voiced his support for the demands. >> if you take a look at the significant increase in salaries for the executives and growth of

the industry, they should benefit from it. >> on friday, the uaw announced strikes were expanding to 38 plants. in 20 states, but only at gm and stellantis location says union leaders say they've made progress on negotiations with ford, but they aren't done yet. tomorrow, former president donald trump will show his support for workers during a rally outside of detroit. >> gmac thank you, jobina. today could be a big day in the effort to officially end the hollywood writers strike. union leaders could vote today whether to approve the tentative deal if leaders do sign off, the deal goes to the 11,000 wga members to be approved, and that could take anywhere from a few days to a week. while that's happening, the writers will be allowed to start working again. the nearly five month strike has had far reaching impacts across the entertainment industry, especially in l.a. >> you have dry cleaners, you have car washes, you have restaurants that rely on shows that are in production near them

or writers rooms that are going on near them to order takeout for lunch. no details of the agreement have been released. >> the actors union is still on strike and it seems as one strike ends. >> another one is set to begin at the culinary union in las vegas is preparing for a strike vote today to demand higher wages and better working conditions from casino owners 53,000 hospitality workers represented by the union will cast ballots on whether to authorize a walkout. and they're building strike kicks strike kits for a possible work stoppage contract talks between the union and resort owners started in april, but they've stalled over wages. >> we're hoping not to have a strike. and if anybody's ever been on strike, that's something you don't want to do. so with this are better. >> we are being working really hard, so we deserve it. >> the union is still negotiating with the big three casino owners in vegas, wynn caesars and mgm. none has responded to requests for

comment after he travels to the uaw picket line in michigan. >> president biden will be back in the bay area today. his first stop is the atherton, home of philanthropist mark heising and liz simons. there will be a democratic fundraiser to benefit the president's reelection campaign. sky seven flew over that massive property. just looking at some of the set up, the president has two more campaign fundraisers to attend tomorrow before he leaves the bay area. >> new developments over what's become a major health scare in and around martinez. >> these heavy metals are particularly insidious. yet this report seems to minimize them. >> that's the voice of a rodeo resident who says she's also a biochemist. she's one of several people with doubts about the county's handling of last year's hazardous materials. release from martinez refining company. the contra costa health department hosted a public hearing yesterday to discuss the latest toxicology report on the incident. this new report shows the level of contamination in

the soil was not an elevated risk to the public. troc contra costa health has said the primary health risks from the release occurred during the initial hours and days after the refinery accident, when people may have breathed in dust particles. residents also raised questions about possible financial compensation for the incident. >> 508 this morning. and we are tracking some light rain to begin your tuesday. here's the reason why we have been tracking this area of low pressure in the pacific northwest that is pushing a cold front through northern california at this hour . as it does, we do have some light areas of rain on live doppler seven. we'll press on down and it's really parts of the east bay. the city, the peninsula right now where you can see those pops of green on live doppler seven. it's certainly wet across the bay bridge. jobina has been showing you the bay bridge toll plaza, showing you those drops on the lens as you head towards 101 to 80 along the peninsula. we have those light showers and even along the coast this morning, from montara to half moon bay, la honda, we have that rain in

to help local city police forces hire officers. the supervisor made the announcement at the broadmoor police department. that department has just six sworn officers, but is facing major financial problems and could be dissolved if we let this department fail, then shame on us as a county. >> if we let the other departments that are experiencing challenges fail, shame on us. >> the hope is, is that we can prevent it through this funding from becoming san francisco.

>> canepa is asking for the funding to come from measure k. that's a half cent sales tax extension to pay for county services that voters passed in 2016. >> a uc berkeley fraternity prank has turned into a felony theft investigation, according to our media partners at the mercury news. you see, police raided the sigma chi fraternity on college avenue earlier this month. they were looking for a sign that had been stolen from the unit one dorms, a cal student spotted the sign on the roof of that fraternity. police recovered it. and with the frats, greek symbol spray painted on it with an estimated value of $25,000, the theft has now been escalated to a felony. >> california has just become the first state to require gender neutral bathrooms in all public schools. under a new law, just signed by the governor, all k through 12 schools have to have at least one gender neutral bathroom on campus by 2026. the bathroom will have to be

available during school hours and during any function where students are present. in a statement, the governor said he hopes the law becomes a model for other states. >> costco members can now get health checkups online. the company launched this new partnership with sesame, a company that primarily caters to uninsured americans. costco members can book visits with medical providers in all 50 states through their membership . the appointments are $29, and there's no billing through health insurance. >> advocates are once again petitioning the city of san francisco to make part of hays street car free 24 over seven. the block between golf and octavia first went car free during the pandemic. then it reopened to traffic. except during certain hours on the weekends. since then, there's been a battle between people who want to keep that road open all the time and people who want to close permanently. the group hays valley for all started a petition earlier this month that has so far received almost 600 signatures in support of a permanent closure for one of san francisco's most popular

p.m. today to protest rising crime. many of them say the city has not done enough to address safety issues. the mayor says the city is working to install 300 new surveillance cameras by november. >> number two, wga union leaders could vote today whether to approve a tentative deal that would end the hollywood writers strike. if union leaders approve the contract agreement, then the writers will vote. >> number three, president biden is heading to the bay area this afternoon. his first stop is the atherton, home of philanthropist mark heising and liz simons for a campaign fundraiser. there will be a democratic fundraiser to benefit the president's reelection campaign. >> on number four, san francisco mayor london breed says the city is stepping up efforts to clear encampment sites. the action comes after city attorney david chu said a judge clarified an injunction which limited the city's response. chu says the city can now clear encampments as long as they first offer shelter to those living on the streets. and >> number five, we do have some

shoots riders around in 360 degree loops. but the two hydraulic arms of this ride, as you can see here, they just suddenly froze in this inverted position with people on board pan panicked, as you can imagine. park engineers were able to bring the ride down after 30 minutes. nobody thankfully, was seriously injured. >> but physically, thank you. mentally, emotionally, spiritually. it's a thing. imagine showing up to school when all of a sudden you hear a different voice. speaking during the morning announcements, the gm of the golden state warriors , mike dunleavy jr stepped in as a principal for the day at claremont middle school in oakland. >> good morning, claremont. students, teachers and staff. >> what do we need? he was at the school yesterday hanging out with the students and talking with them about the importance of good schoolwork. it's all part of the back to school in the bay initiative by the warriors and carmax. the real principal of claremont middle, told donleavy that he was

morning commute. good morning, everybody. it's tuesday, september 26th. >> it is wet out there this morning. you. >> yeah. good morning. we're going to have a rapidly changing forecast the next couple of hours. we're going from showers to sunshine as the morning goes on. we have this cold front that's moving through right now. like we advertised over the last 24 hours. it is bringing some light rain to the region, specifically over the city. parts of the east bay and along the peninsula. you can see that over the bay bridge, we have some showers as you approach the western span of the san mateo bridge. we have wet pavement and we're also tracking some mild and muggy conditions. look at your dew points right now. measures how much moisture is in the atmosphere when we're above 60, it is humid for us. let's go hour by hour on future weather by 8 a.m. any of this moisture is out of here and we are going to see sunshine appear very fast as the morning goes on. and that's going to lead to bright conditions this afternoon and temperatures mainly in the 70s and 80s away from the coast. let's see how we're doing on the wet pavement with traffic this morning with jobina. good morning. good morning, drew. >> and yeah, that's exactly

right. wet pavement usually leads to spin outs and that's exactly what we have going on right now in the may is we have a crash reported on westbound 80 past westbound 580. right. as you were trying to approach say the bay bridge toll plaza in that area and i drove through that area myself this morning. it is slick for mass transit. everything is running on time right now for bart muni and as train, which is good news. but let's get back to the bay bridge because it is pretty slick there. you have speeds under the limit as you travel westbound around 13mph is going to be the drive time into the city and then the metering lights already flipped on at 531. we expected that due to the weather. so we will see if that backup continues in kumasi. >> thanks, jobina. happening today, dozens of oakland businesses planning to shut down for at least part of the day. they say they're fed up with feeling like the city isn't protecting them from an increase in retail crime. abc7 news reporter lena howland is live in oakland with what business owners hope will come from today's action. lena >> well, many business owners say they've reached a breaking point with how the city is handling an uptick in crime so
