how we're doing on that wet pavement with traffic and jobina. good morning. >> good morning, drew. thank you. hi, everyone. so we are going to go back to the bay bridge. it's our problem spot so far this morning due to those slick conditions we're following a crash westbound 80 just past treasure island. the speeds have dropped to around 16mph here. and if you're traveling towards the bay bridge, want to let you know those metering lights came on at 530. so it's already filled in there at the richmond-san rafael bridge. we're still seeing those droplets come down on our camera. it's not as much as it was earlier, but definitely still there. and if you rely on bart, they are recovering right now from an earlier problem. so you're going to experience about a ten minute delay in the sfo and millbrae directions, and that is due to earlier unscheduled track maintenance at the macarthur station. thanks. >> jobina. happening today in the east bay, dozens of oakland small business owners are planning to shut down for part of the day protesting rising crime recently, the city missed its chance to get millions of dollars in grant money to help prevent retail theft. abc seven news reporter lena howland is live in oakland with more on

what to expect in the protest today. lena >> well, business owners say the goal of this strike is to send a bigger message to city hall that they don't feel safe even in their own businesses. that's why dozens of small businesses, including restaurants, convenience stores, clothing stores, even doctor's offices, are staging a strike primarily from 10:00 to noon today to draw attention to their desperation in. although some merchants may choose to stay closed for the full day, some say the crime has reached a breaking point in oakland and it's hurting their bottom line. restaurant partner of calavera ryan dixon gets emotional about the crime happening in oakland now and how it's threatening the small business ecosystem that makes oakland, oakland and we are all dying literally and figuratively . >> um, so the business community has just gotten to the breaking point where every day somebody else is having to choose to close their doors because they

michigan is the latest way the president is showing support for auto workers. >> yes, reggie, so today is day 12 of the auto workers union strike against the big three auto manufacturers. so that's gm, ford and stellantis. president biden's decision to stand alongside picketers underscores his allegiance to labor unions. historians say they cannot recall an instance where a sitting president joined an ongoing strike. union members are demanding a number of changes, including a 40% wage increase and better benefits. reinstating cost of living adjustments and pensions for all workers and an end and an end the tiered and temporary employer movement where some employees are paid less for doing the same job. the president has voiced his support for the demands. >> if you take a look at the significant increase in salaries for the executive lives and growth of the industry, they should benefit from it. >> on friday, the uaw announced

strikes were expanding to 38 plants in 20 states, but only at gm and stellantis locations. those union leaders say they've made progress on negotiations with ford, but they aren't done yet. tomorrow, former president donald trump will show his support for workers during a rally outside of detroit, gmac. >> they should be in today could be a big day in the effort to officially end the hollywood writers strike. union leaders could vote today on whether to approve that tentative deal if they do sign off the deal would then go to the 11,000 wga members to be approved, and that could take anywhere from a few days to a week while that's happening, the writers will be allowed to start working again. the nearly five month strike had had far has had far reaching impacts across the entertainment industry, especially in l.a. you have dry cleaners, you have car washes, you have restaurants that rely on shows that are in production near them, or writers rooms that are going on near them to order takeout for lunch . no details of the agreement have been released. the actors

union is still on strike and it seems there's one strike ends, another one is set to begin. >> the culinary union in las vegas is preparing for a strike today to demand higher wages and better working conditions from casino owners. 53,000 hospitality workers represented by the union will cast ballots on whether to authorize a walkout. and they're building strike kits for a possible work stoppage. large contract talks between the union and resort owners started in april, but they have stalled over wages. we're hoping not to have a strike. >> and if anybody's ever been on strike, that's something you don't want to do. so we deserve better. >> we are being working really hard, so we deserve it. >> the union is still negotiating with the big three casino owners in vegas, wynn caesars and mgm. none has responded to requests for comment, but after he travels to the uaw picket line in michigan , president biden will be here in the bay area today.

and for when their ride got stuck upside down for almost a half hour. the ride is called the lumberjack at canada's wonderland in ontario. it spins riders around in 363 360 loops. but the two hydraulic arms suddenly froze in that inverted position on with the guests on board. park engineers were able to bring down the ride and no one was seriously injured. drew. have you ever been stopped on a ride for any reason? nope. never. i think my lucky star is not even like climbing the hill, the coaster. >> but when i see this ride at the fair, i absolutely do not go on it. and that's why it's not for me. have you been stopped on a ride? >> i had my first in show exit

audio issues with lena. we'll check back in with her in a few moments. you soon might notice fewer tents on the streets of san francisco. mayor london breed says the city is stepping up its efforts to clear homeless encampments. this abc7 news reporter gloria rodriguez joining us live in the newsroom to explain why this is happening now. >> gloria, good morning. kumasi city attorney david chu says a judge clarified an injunction which limited the city's response. chu says the city can clear encampments as long as they first offer shelter to those who are living on the streets. this action is just the latest development in a months long legal battle between the city and homeless advocates. the director of the coalition on homelessness, which is suing the city, worries that the increased sweeps could lead to the city violating its own rules on clearing encampments. she pointed to policies prohibiting the destruction of homeless people's property. she says that can be counterproductive. but chu believes it's a step in allowing the city to enforce its

own laws. >> san francisco has really tried to balance providing compassionate services and shelter to unhoused individuals with maintaining a healthy and safe streets. but that balance is really upset, particularly as as over half of the folks who have received offers of shelter would turn it down. >> criminalization in general does not lead to an exit out of homelessness and it, in fact usually lengthens homelessness. the director says they want real solutions, but the legal battle is far from over. >> there are more trial dates on the issue set for the months ahead. and reggie, very interesting. >> gloria, thank you. in washington, lawmakers now have four days to avert a government shutdown. the pressure is on for congress to pass a spending plan that will keep the federal government open past the end of the month. a shutdown would be very hurtful to so many parts of american life. travel public health, food and housing, along with parks and museums. who's to blame? well if you ask this
