days. 6 a.m. wednesday through 6 a.m. saturday. the largest health care worker strike in us history. >> patients will feel an immediate impact, especially when they need lab work. diagnostic imaging, pharmacy vision, care. and so on. because most of the employees who are the bulk of those workers in those facilities would be on strike. >> august is a conflict resolution expert who was on the former kaiser union negotiating team. he says while doctors and nurses will be ready to go, hospital disruptions could possibly include clerical staff. meal service and housekeeping, which affects infection control. kaiser permanente, in a statement, said to mitigate the impact of a strike, they have plans to expand kaiser's network of pharmacies to include some neighborhood locations will reschedule some non-emergency

and elective procedures hours and are onboarding critical care professionals to work during a strike. >> kaiser permanente has an obligation to do those things. they certainly want to provide those services during the strike . it's not going to be easy to other bay area unions have approved a sympathy strike if local 20 and op local 29 workers say they will also walk off the job in solidarity. >> they include technical employees, clinical lab scientists and home health therapists. >> i think that this strike should be seen should it occur more as a national problem that really affects everyone in health care. >> so to try to sort through the confusion, registered nurses and doctors will be on staff tomorrow. if there is a strike. hospitals, emergency rooms will be open. check perhaps with your health care team if you've got an appointment or you're not

would keep the government open until mid november. so now gates and a small group of conservative republicans voted with those same democrats to remove mccarthy. and abc news is reporting that mccarthy does not plan to run for speaker again. nancy pelosi by the way, the only california democrat who did not vote to oust mccarthy. that's because she was not in washington. she's here in california for fleet week. and the memorial service for the late senator dianne feinstein and the person appointed to replace feinstein was sworn in today in washington, d.c. senator laphonza butler is the first lesbian person of color to serve in the united states senate. >> but i will congratulate time. >> senator, thank you. >> vice president kamala harris administer the oath of office to butler as butler's wife held the bible. governor newsom appointed butler sunday, saying she understands how the system works, even though she has never held public office. butler had been serving as president of emily's list, an organization that works to elect pro-choice democratic female candidates.

senate majority leader chuck schumer welcomed butler on the senate floor today. i spent a great half hour, 45 minutes talking to laphonza and she is going to be one great senator for we're ready to work with her . butler will finish senator feinstein's term, which ends january 20th, 25. after that, she could decide to join the race for the seat if she wants. plans are now set for senator feinstein's funeral service. it will be on the steps of san francisco city hall starting at 1:00 thursday afternoon. and you can go. it is open to the public. if you can't attend, you can watch it on abc7 news bay area app tomorrow. the senator's body will lie in state at city hall with a public viewing from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. a book of condolences is available to sign . senator feinstein died of natural causes friday at the age of 90. the search continues for the hit and run driver in a san francisco collision that seriously injured a woman.

>> that accident at fifth and market streets also involved a cruise vehicle which rolled over the woman after she was initially hit. abc7 news reporter lena howland got a look at cruz's dash cam video of that incident and has more on the investigation. >> graphic dash cam video from cruz reviewed by staff at abc7 shows shows a black sedan slam into a woman in a crosswalk at fifth and market. the impact was so severe it launched the woman into the next lane directly in front of a driverless cruise taxi which ran her over. firefighters had to use the jaws of life to pull the woman out from underneath the cruise car. >> we have not seen a vehicle collision involving injuries of this nature with an autonomous vehicle. any incident involving the injury of anyone on our streets is a big concern for the police. we need to make sure that our streets stay safe, whether they be involving cars with drivers or cars that don't have drivers.

>> san francisco police said tuesday morning they believe the cruise car wasn't the only vehicle involved in the crash, but the sedan fled the scene. >> the operator of that vehicle , we're looking to identify the driver as well as locate the vehicle. >> cruise officials said their vehicle operated as designed and started braking before impact. they released a statement overnight saying, our heartfelt concern and focus is the well-being of the person who is injured. and we are actively working with police to help identify the response able driver. cruz is not publicly releasing the dash cam video of this crash because they say they do not want to compromise the police investigation and while fire officials described her injuries as serious yesterday, police said this morning they do not have an update on the victim's condition. in san francisco, lena howland, abc seven news. >> and investigation is now underway into a san francisco public works employee caught on video knocking over a street vendor's cart, sending its

contents everywhere. abc seven news reporter luis pena went to the area where the incident happened to speak to vendors who say they want the city to intervene and luiz joins us live from the newsroom. >> yeah, kristen, the san francisco public works department confirmed this was a food vending operation that took place on sunday. they said the health department directed them to impound carts, something that has been happening for over a month now. street vendors tell me they feel mistreated. in a video that has now gone viral, a san francisco public works employee can be seen pushing a street vendors cart condiments, onions, hotdogs and bell peppers end up on the ground while the worker can be seen picking up some of his cooking tools. >> nada porque nosotros tambien. nosotros compramos lo q vendemos . >> i told him, please don't take anything from here because we purchase everything that we're selling. >> i have receipts. >> i went to fisherman's wharf area where the incident took place and didn't find any street vendors. up the street on pier

33, we met six of them selling hot dogs and fruit. they confirmed knowing that street vendor in the video and said public works employees have been confiscating many of their carts . last month, the city took six carts. in a statement, the city's public works department said their workers are trained on de-escalate techniques and regarding the video said in part, we're still looking into what led up to that moment and the events that preceded. we strive to treat members of the public with respect during permit enforcement operations. in this circumstance, we did not meet that threshold and we apologize. milka casimir said. they feel harassed and mistreated. she said this has happened before and showed us a video from another incident that happened a month ago. several times. it hasn't been the first time supervisor bonin's office denounced the act and confirmed that the city's street vending ordinance is there to check that people have receipts of items they're selling. but it doesn't include food at this point, we're still waiting on public works to issue their orders on

how they're going to issue permits for food vending. >> so at this moment, there are no permanent food vendors in san francisco, so no one has permits not for selling food. no. there are food trucks that do have different permits. but like what you saw out there, like hot dog vendors, people selling fruit on the street there, currently, none of them are permitted. >> san francisco's department of public health said they do require a permit for street vendors to sell food. in san francisco, though, and added in part, the environmental health branch also issues permits to mobile food vendors to lower the risk of foodborne illness and protect public health. all permitted vendors display a current year decal un permiso de la ciudad. you would want a permit from the city. >> yo quiero un permiso. yes, i would. >> now the san francisco public works department said they're still investigating this incident and will take action once that investigation is finalized in the newsroom. luis pena, abc seven news. >> luis, thank you. multiple investigations are now underway

looking into the san jose daycare center where three children fell into a pool yesterday and two of those children drowned and both under the age of five. a third child who was found in the pool was rescued and is expected to recover. san jose police say they've assigned the homicide unit detectives to work with the county da's office in a criminal investigation into the happy, happy daycare on fleetwood drive in the almaden valley area. the department said investigators will be interviewing everybody involved, even looking through home surveillance footage from neighbors, although this isn't a homicide case, they're the best detectives that we have available. >> and correspond with the district attorney. so as the progression of the investigation continues, as they can work together on making sure to solidify that portion of the case. >> according to the department of social services, that home daycare center was licensed back in january of 2021 to 2 people. the state has conducted a total of eight visits, including inspections. the center was cited several times during those

statistics. and today students at los medanos college in pittsburg hosted a panel of east contra costa county leaders talking about what is being done to tackle issues around housing. abc7 news reporter answer hassan with more. >> housing advocates say people are suffering in silence in east contra costa county. >> i did not receive any support or any resources during the time me and my children were homeless . i had to pay for a hotel, stays weekly on my own. >> is. clayton shared her struggles on a panel discussion on on homelessness and housing. she was joined by activists and city leaders from pittsburg, antioch and brentwood. >> every city can do better. we do have to think about things on

a regional and a state level. >> brentwood, vice-mayor susanna meyer says her city raised the inclusionary rate for the number of affordable units that must be built in new developments to 13. and remove in-lieu fees which developers could pay instead of building low income housing. >> the developments that are being currently built will actually have to stand to that. and so we will, as we get more build out coming in, we will be getting more affordable housing coming in as well. >> pittsburg mayor shanelle scales, preston spoke of several new projects underway, such as this one for low income veterans . she says there is no shortage of construction around the city. the challenge is funding to build affordable housing. >> i think the hardest part is getting the funding. you know, it comes from all these sources from the federal government. the state, it, you know, the county, you know, your city and then the non profit. and we're trying to figure out how to put all that funding together to build that housing. >> antioch mayor lamar thorpe says aside from the red tape, until there's better coordinated efforts, housing, the homeless will remain a big problem in antioch. >> we you know, we've invested

that's determining what we feel down here. a big ridge of high pressure is dominating our weather picture for the next several days. and the clockwise circulation around that high is bringing us or will bring us an offshore flow says the winds move down hill. they dry out the air does and it warms up. and that's why i've got such a warm up coming our way. and notice already clouds, low clouds being pushed away from the coastline. so it's not only warming up, but it's clearing up. we have the 24 hour temperature change showing you that it's about 4 to 6 degrees warmer right now in most burial locations than at this time yesterday. so here's a view from sutro tower looking out over sunny san francisco, 67 degrees here in the city right now 73 at both oakland and mountain view. san jose, 82 degrees, 77 at palo alto, 61 at half moon bay. nice view from emeryville looking toward the golden gate and you can see little haze off in the distance there. but there's no actual no significant bank of coastal clouds right now. 85 degrees right now in santa rosa, nevada

. nevada, 82, napa, 77, 88 at fairfield. and we have mid 80s at concord and livermore and blue sky over the embarcadero and the bay bridge. as we check out the forecast headlines, clear skies overnight in the absence of coastal clouds warm at the coast and hot near the bay and inland tomorrow through saturday. and that, of course, means a heightened fire danger for and near record temperatures are possible as well. so overnight it again, clouds are moving away, low clouds, clear skies all the way into the early morning hours, which means we start the day with sunny skies overnight. low temperatures will not be very low without cooling coastal clouds. we have low temperatures mainly in the low 60s, which is pretty warm and maybe uncomfortable for some during the overnight hours. highs tomorrow, 77 half moon bay, 82in san francisco, mid to upper 80s around the bay shoreline tomorrow. this is just the beginning of the warm up and we'll see some low 90s in the warmest inland spots. but all of those areas are going to get

negotiations have agreed to participate. the negotiations will focus on ten widely used prescriptions, which include blood thinners and diabetic treatments. last year, medicare and medi-cal participants spent nearly $3.5 billion on these selected drugs. the goal is to cut the price substantially and then pass the savings on to those who have signed up for medicare and medicaid. instacart is making a change to help seniors and other vulnerable communities get access to healthy foods and medications. the app is adding new payment options to include medicare and medicaid. it will be available through alignment health and will allow anyone with subsidized health insurance to purchase eligible groceries and over-the-counter medications for instacart delivery. the company also recently started accepting food stamps in all 50 states. if
