of morgan state university again in baltimore. five people hurt. none of those injuries is believed to be life threatening. thank goodness. the victims range in age from 18 to 22 years of age, and four of the five victims were students. the shooting happened around 7 p.m. our time, 10 p.m. eastern, after a festive homecoming week celebration attended by students, alumni, parents and faculty and our students. >> at the end of that were headed over to the student center to rejoice and to enjoy themselves is when this unfortunate situation erupted on

the campus. >> investigators are still looking for a suspect. morgan state is a historically black university class. tomorrow are canceled. let's move now to our other top story, a mystery developing in san jose involving a group of undocumented migrants. they were dropped off without warning. and tonight, a lot of questions about where they came from. good evening. thank you for joining us. i'm dan ashley, the san jose nonprofit that took in these migrants is confirming to us this was a group of adults and children originally from south america. they were first left. they were left, i should say, at first. and willow street over the weekend, right near a local church. abc seven news south bay reporter lauren martinez is looking into how they got here and what comes next. >> a san jose nonprofit is connecting 12 undocumented immigrants to vital resources after they were reportedly dropped off. a member from the organization amigos de guadalupe center confirmed a group of

adults and children were bused in from el paso, texas and dropped off in the guadalupe, washington neighborhood on saturday evening. he said they're connecting them with resources, food, clothing and health centers. >> that journey to be here at this moment has been troc matic and there is no journey that is easy. >> but linda hernandez arriaga worked with the bay area border relief for two years in south texas. she saw firsthand the desperate ocean, hunger and fear in people seeking asylum. it's all brand new. >> every single thing, every single day is a new day for them . and so they're also in a transition of emotionally and psychologically a shock coming from the border cities across the nation and the state have received migrants who have been bussed or flown in. >> in june, state officials said more than a dozen migrants were dropped off at a church in sacramento from florida. attorney general rob bonta issued a public record request to florida authorities over,

bakersfield was ousted as speaker of the house. and tonight, the interim gop speaker just booted nancy pelosi from her honorary capitol office as the office of speaker of the house of the united states house of representatives is hereby declared vacant. florida congressman matt gaetz gave the motion to vacate. it's the first time in american history a house speaker has been removed this way. representative mccarthy spoke about. his ouster earlier today, saying he will not run again. >> you know, it was personal. it had nothing to do about spending. it had nothing to do about everything. he accused somebody of. he was doing. it all was about getting attention from you. >> now, representative patrick mchenry of north carolina is serving as speaker pro tem until a new speaker election can take place in one of his first orders of business, he evicted speaker emerita. nancy pelosi from the capitol building office. she got

around the bay, mid to upper 70s on the coast. and then sun will set about 648 tomorrow evening. so by 7 p.m. clear skies, no marine layer and still mild to warm even at that hour of the evening i'll have the complete accuweather seven day forecast a little bit later. >> dan looks pretty good spencer thank you. touch base in a minute. now to the developing news on a major impending strike of kaiser permanente. health care workers just hours away now and no deal yet, meaning we could see up to 75,000 workers across multiple states walk off the job. it would be the largest health care strike in us history. and a lot of those workers are here in california. abc7 news reporter tim johns has been all over this story this week. he is in the newsroom now with how you might be affected. tim >> dan union workers are set to go on strike for three days starting tomorrow at 6:00 in the morning. however they told me they will continue to be at that bargaining table as long as kaiser reps are willing to meet them. there after another day of

negotiations on tuesday, no agreement was reached on a new working contract between kaiser permanente and tens of thousands of its employees. the unions representing those workers saying they're ready to strike starting wednesday morning if no last minute compromise is reached. >> the crisis is right now, and i think that it's getting worse. >> sonia allen smith is on one of the bargaining teams and works as a radiology technician in oakland. she says some of the top concerns union members want addressed are chronic understaffing, worker burnout and low pay. >> health care workers should be able to focus on taking care of patients when they're at work. they shouldn't have to worry about where they're going to sleep at at night. >> kaiser says if a strike does happen, they're prepared. they have assured patients their hospitals and ers will remain open, even if some non-emergency services might have to be rescheduled in a statement, they told abc7 news that while talks are ongoing, several provisions have already been reached. >> i wouldn't say it's a crisis. on the other hand, i wouldn't say it's something that's a mild inconvenience.

>> arnab mukherjee is the department chair of public health at cal state east bay. he says despite the preparations in place, some patients will likely still feel the impacts of a potential strike, especially those on the lower end of the socioeconomic scale. >> you and i may think of a 1 to 3 day delay as something that we can get through, but for certain people, rescheduling an appointment may make them consider taking another day off of work. having to have somebody take care of their children. >> as for allen smith, she says workers are just fighting to be treated fairly. >> it is our hope that we will be able to resolve the short staffing crisis if kaiser executives come to the table and bargain in good faith. that is our hope. but we are ready to strike if need be. >> now, if it happens, this strike is set to end at 6 a.m. saturday, tomorrow morning, though, we're hearing one of the largest expected pickets will be in front of the oakland kaiser center on broadway. union reps also telling me if no deal is able to be reached in the coming weeks, they are prepared to strike again in november in the

daycare center, where three children fell into a pool yesterday. sadly, two of them died. we've learned they were both one year old girls. a third child found in the pool was rescued and is expected to recover. the drownings happened yesterday at the happy happy daycare on fleetwood drive in the almaden valley area. the department says those homicide detectives will be interviewing everyone involved, even looking through home surveillance footage from neighbors. although this isn't a homicide case, they're the best detectives that we have available and correspond with the district attorney. >> so as the progression of the investigation continues, they can work together on making sure to solidify that portion of the case. >> according to the state's department of social services, the home daycare center was licensed in january of 2021 to 2 people. the center was cited several times during inspection checks, including an order to adjust the pool fence that will no doubt be part of this investigation. now happening tomorrow, a heads up for a nationwide alarm test hitting at
