$11,000 fine. the drownings of two toddlers and the injury of a third is forcing authorities to take a much closer look. good evening. thank you for joining us. >> i'm dan ashley and i'm ahmad daetz, abc abc7 news south bay reporter lauren martinez spoke to one long time child safety advocate who has fought for extra safety protections at the state level and he says this new decision should be going many steps further. >> days following the devastating drowning of two toddlers at a home daycare pool, the state has suspended the operator's license following a hearing. the state may choose to revoke the license entirely. the department of social services may also prohibit the operators from working at any facility licensed by the state. the two licensees are facing $11,000 in civil penalties. >> it takes a village to help a child and protect a child and it takes a village to harm one. >> for the past four years, doug forbes has delved into drowning

prevention and camp safety. in june of 2019, his six year old daughter, roxy, drowned at a summer camp. >> we dropped her off at 9:00 in the morning, and at 945 we were hovering over her dead body in a trauma room. >> forbes established the meow meow foundation, named after roxy's favorite comfort doll through education and legislative fbes evaluates safety at daycares, camps and aquatic facilities. he advocates for more state mandate requirement. >> it's we should amp up the regulation to compensate for the risk, shouldn't we? and 88% of child drowning occur with an adult nearby. >> forbes believes with a body of water around additional safety barriers are needed, like a pool safety alarm. >> they should have surveillance specifically be aimed at those aquatic environments. therefore for we would know defense

yeah, the team of blue angels made up of navy and marine pilots out practicing this afternoon for this weekend's set of air shows is, of course, the first show happens tomorrow. >> and we saw locals and out-of-towners staring up in awe today at what they were watching. >> i was looking out our windows as well, but the key is getting those perfect viewing spots and finding the best ways to watch. >> so tonight, we're making it our abc seven news deep dive at 11. with everything you need to know about the blue angels shows, abc seven news reporter j.r. stone is getting some of those ideas going for us tonight . >> roar of the blue angels information and flying solo over the san francisco bay is finally here. thursday some watch the angels practice session from alcatraz. others took to the docks of fisherman's wharf, and many watched in the shadows of the golden gate bridge at the marina green. >> i like feeling like i'm on top gun. that's what it made me feel like. like i was part of the movie.

>> i don't even know what that is. >> we'll definitely check it out now that we know about it. >> and finding that perfect spot to watch can often make it that much more of a memorable experience. >> it's literally right over the boat. i mean, you could see the you could see the guy in the hill, you could see his helmet. you could see the pilot's helmet. sometimes i'll even wave at us. >> if you do plan on coming to san francisco for fleet week, either friday, saturday or sunday, you'll want to get here early because parking can be a challenge, especially here along the marina green where there is only neighborhood parking. j.r. stone, abc seven news. >> all right. here are a few things you should know about the blue angels. they got their start back in 1946, and the team made its first flight that year in jacksonville, florida. the smoke you see from the jets isn't just for show. it also helps with safety, allowing the pilots to see one another while performing stunts. just how close do the planes get to one another? how about 18in? this happens when they pull off a

maneuver called the diamond 360, a fog can always be a factor, of course, in the bay area, in order to fly the blue angels need at least three nautical miles of visibility and the cloud ceiling has to be at least 1300ft. so some precise requirements there. truly remarkable pilots and the pride of the us navy. and i've had the privilege to fly with them. and i can tell you it was an intense and awe inspiring experience. here's a picture of me in the cockpit many years ago before we took off. this was in the late 80s as the crew chief made sure i was buckled in safely. moments later, we were just ripping through the sky and i got to do something ama that they don't often do with the media flights, which is break the sound barrier over the ocean, which was really cool. now the best part i actually had the stick and actually got to push it through to mach one. the speed of sound . it was really an unforgettable experience. >> and man, the g-forces right. >> oh, man. you know, you've heard it described as a giant weight on your chest. that's

exactly what it feels like. and as we roared down the runway after takeoff, the pilot literally turned straight up to go what they called the performance takeoff. and we pulled something like seven g's. that's more than the space shuttle on liftoff. it was incredible. but you feel this incredible pressure. >> yeah, they are an amazing team. they do such such great maneuvers. they really do. >> it's impressive. >> all right. well, of course, we're talking about the weather , the crowds, crowd ceiling. there are going to be crowds and you need to worry about the cloud ceiling. you know what i'm going for here? >> yeah. sandy patel is looking at how the friday and blue angels show is shaping up with her 24 hour accuweather forecast. andrea yeah, the weather is going to match the incredible maneuvers that they do. >> dan and ama. let's take a look at the forecast for tomorrow as the air show gets underway. it was really cool watching the practice rounds today. tomorrow morning, 73 degrees. the air show is 10 to 4, 1:00 in the afternoon. it's going to be fine. flying weather with unlimited visibility. i mean, we're talking upper 80s by 4 p.m. so it's going to be warm

. >> the lasting message is clear. the former mayor and senator paved the way with a sense of grace and authenticity that was all her own. abc7 news reporter tim johns is taking a look at the moments to remember that from the steps of city hall and through the streets of san francisco, dianne feinstein was remembered thursday at a memorial service honoring her life. >> she showed us a world where women lead, where we lift each other up so that girls like me could follow in her footsteps. >> the service featured speeches from san francisco mayor london breed vice president kamala harris and former house speaker nancy pelosi. several of whom took time to recognize how much of a trailblazer feinstein was, especially for women. dianne. the women of america have come a long way. >> our country has come a long way. and you helped move the ball forward. >> and while feinstein's career in the senate spanned decades to those here in the bay area, she's also best known as mayor of san francisco. during that

time, she led the city through multiple crises and helped transform it into the place it is today. >> saved our beloved cable cars , created the iconic pier 39 and fought for the lgbtq community during the height of the hiv aids epidemic. >> many of thursday's speakers reflected on feinstein's toughness and can do attitude. a strong personality that guided her through major turning points in california. history, says abc7 news insider phil matier. >> think about it, the civil rights movement, the vietnam war, the aids epidemic, the gay revolution in the summer of love , the tumultuous 70s with terror groups in the bay area. not all speakers focused on feinstein's many professional achievements, though her granddaughter eileen mariano shared her memories of feinstein as a loving grandma mother. >> my grandmother was my biggest cheerleader, she was an unwavering support system. um, she never failed to tell me how

counts of fraud and conspiracy. he is pleading not guilty to all of them. 4 million americans have gotten the latest covid vaccine shot. it's on par with last year's numbers. however, the updated covid vaccine has only reached less than 2% of the population, according to the department of health and human services. there are about 8 million more doses available. this is the first of the covid vaccine rollouts to be done commercially and say goodbye to any more of those covid vaccination cards. the cdc is no longer distributing them. a health officials say to contact your doctor or state health department to get digital or paper copies of your full vaccination record. >> new at 11. priscilla chan, the wife of mark zuckerberg, is opening up a new biotech hub in chicago and spoke at the launch event today. construction began in august on a massive new lab building. it has lofty goals of researching and curing diseases, using lab grown human cells. >> chicago, biohub is going to change the way our world deals

there. how long will that last? meteorologist sandy patel is here. sandy? yeah, we have another day or two of this, and then we're done. >> all right, dan and alma, let me show you the high temperatures for today. record high in half. moon bay, 90 degrees today. old record was 82, set in 2013. it was a warm to hot one fremont 88. but you got up to 97 degrees in napa 95. san jose 94. santa rosa oakland 93 degrees. san francisco. we know the unofficial sites were in the low 90s, but the official record official temperature is not there because their sensor has been down all day today. heat advisory remains up until 11 p.m. tomorrow for the areas shaded in orange above average temperatures bringing a moderate to high risk of heat illnesses for those that are sensitive. so definitely stay hydrated and take it easy out there. as we show you a stunning view from our emeryville camera, we are looking back towards san francisco. and here's a look at the high temperatures for tomorrow versus the old records. so half moon bay expected to hit 87 degrees. if it does do that,

it would be a tie set back in 1972. san jose's high temperature, 96 would surpass the old record of 95. so we shall see if it materialize as high pressure in control of the weather with offshore flow. the downsloping winds that we typically see in october, we'll get another warm to hot one. and that means for fleet week as well. so warm fall day for your friday upper 80s as the blue angels take to the skies. i mean, really just going to be fine flying weather saturday sunshine but cooler and you will notice air show on sunday there will be some fog with the temperature dropping off even more. as we take a look at the numbers right now, well, they're not dropping off a whole lot, but it is cooler than where we were. 60s and 70s. a live view from our sutro tower camera looking at downtown san francisco. warm to hot weather again tomorrow. possibility of a few records cooler at the coast saturday and all areas will cool on sunday. so tomorrow morning when you get going, you may think i don't need that extra layer because it is so mild out

there. we get that mild start, it's going to warm up quickly. tomorrow afternoon in the south bay, 96, in san jose, 99 in gilroy, you're going to feel that heat on the peninsula, 96 in redwood city, 87, as i mentioned, in half moon bay, downtown san francisco, upper 80s, well above average for this time of year. south city, 89 and the north bay mid 90s from san rafael to santa rosa, 94 degrees in vallejo in the east bay. oakland 9094. castro valley head inland and it's going to feel like summer 97 degrees in concord 98 for you in fairfield, 96 in pleasanton in just as you get used to this idea temperature are going to come down over the weekend and then we'll have the opportunity for some rain monday afternoon into the wee hours of tuesday morning. there's another system that is going to brush the north bay following that on wednesday. here's a look at the accuweather seven day forecast. warm to hot tomorrow. the hot weather continues inland on saturday but the coast will cool you'll notice it on saturday and then all areas drop off on sunday.
