considering a longer two week strike if an agreement isn't reached today, more than 75,000 workers are on strike. and gloria's joining us live with the progress being made at the bargaining table. >> good morning, kumasi. oakland based kaiser maintains progress is being made, but those on the picket line say some of their needs are still not being met. one of the key issues here is the staffing levels, as kaiser declined to be interviewed but tells abc7 news it has met the union's demands to hire 10,000 employees. but employees are refuting those claims as they keep throwing out these numbers that they apparently they've already reached the 10,000 new employees who are these employees? >> because when you walk into those facilities, you are not seeing new faces at all. >> the union says kaiser's offer to raise minimum wage to $23 an hour falls short of the $25 an hour it wants multiple state assembly members and local city council members joined striking workers at some bay area kaiser

facilities yesterday. the hospitals are still open. doctors and some nurses are not on strike, but some services are closed or they're only being offered with limited hours. what's considered to be the largest health care strike in us history ends tomorrow. so again, the union says it will consider an even longer strike if an agreement is not made today. reggie >> thank you, gloria. now we're going to turn to fleet week because you probably heard if you were in or around san francisco or oakland yesterday, the jets flying above you, the blue angels are here. they're ready for their first performance this afternoon. and of course, more later this weekend. abc7 news reporter lena howland is live this morning with a rundown of what we can expect. hi, lena. >> hey, reggie. we are at the marina green right now which is one of the many spots where you can see this airshow happening throughout the city. it's happening primarily between the golden gate bridge and alcatraz. now the blue angels made up of navy and marine pilots were out yesterday practicing to headline

this weekend's set of air shows and what a sight we found. some folks already out watching their practice session from alcatraz, others taking to the docks of fisherman's wharf and many watched in the shadows of the golden gate bridge here at the marina green. although land is the cheapest option, alcatraz tour tickets could put you on the island for $53. many have opted to cruise with captain mike on his boat. the lovely martha, for around $80 a person for a much closer view. >> there's still a couple boats we have available, but we've been actually sold out for this trip since march. really right over the boat. i mean, you could see the you could see the guy in the hell. you could see his helmet. you could see the pilot's helmet. sometimes i'll even wave at us before the airshow, the parade of ships is expected to start at 11:00. >> and the air show is expected to start just after that, a little bit after 1230. now just

neighborhood. one person was killed, two others are hurt. this all happened yesterday morning at a mobile home park for people aged 55 and older. located on almaden boulevard in tropicana way. after union city, police found the three victims. officers say the 21 year old suspect got away in a car. police eventually arrested him in mountain view, where he's originally from. neighbors say they're surprised that this happened in this area. >> i was actually shocked, but i

saw it on the news this morning and i thought, wait a minute, i probably live. so i went to walk over there and it was all cordoned off already. >> it's not known if the suspect and the victims knew each other or. >> new developments in the search for a police chief in oakland. the city is extending the application deadline for a new chief at the request of the firm that's conducting this whole process. the city administrator says the extension is so that the police commission can conduct a thorough recruitment process for quality candidates. the next step would be to send a list of candidates to the mayor. according to the chronicle, the deadline is now october 13th. >> several community groups in oakland are urging the city to use a state loan to install more license plate reader cameras. they've sent a letter to the city's privacy advisory commission requesting the $1.2 million loan to fund automated plate readers along freeways and

city streets. they hope it will help fight an increase in thefts and other crimes. oakland already has license plate readers in july, police revealed that they hadn't been used since february. the reason that ransomware attack that crippled some city systems developing news. >> arrangements are underway for president joe biden and china's president xi jinping to meet face to face. officials say they're planning for the two leaders to meet at the apec summit next month in san francisco. president biden is currently working to mend ties with china, though both countries remain at odds over military and economics. china hasn't confirmed yet if president xi will be attending the summit in november. >> developing news abc news reports former president donald trump allegedly discussed sensitive nuclear information with a mar a lago member. sources say it was australian billionaire anthony pratt. pratt apparently told investigators that trump shared the exact number of nuclear warheads the us submarines hold. he says trump also revealed how close

the subs could get to russian submarines without being detected. pratt allegedly shared that information with more than a dozen foreign officials and some journalists. a spokesperson for trump denied the claims and said in quote, it lacked proper context and relevant information . former president trump has endorsed republican congressman jim jordan for house speaker. it follows trump saying that he himself would consider serving in the role for a short time. the seat is now vacant after congress made a historic vote to remove former speaker kevin mccarthy. jim jordan will go against house majority leader steve scalise, who also announced his bid for house speaker. republicans will hear from both candidates at a forum on tuesday. the next possible vote for house speaker could happen wednesday day. >> now to the migrant crisis. the biden administration has cleared the way to build more border wall along the us-mexico border and the announcement is raising questions because the president campaigned against the wall in 2020. so, gloria, what changed?

>> well, president joe biden says he is still against the wall, but has to build an additional 18 miles of it because of a decision made during the trump administration . an the construction will be paid for using funds appropriated in 2019. his administration claims it tried to get lawmakers to redirect the money, but that congress refused . the law requires funding to be used as approved and the project to be built this year, homeland security secretary alejandro mayorkas insists there was no change in policy from day one. >> this administration has made clear that a border wall is not the answer. we have repeatedly asked congress to rescind this money, but it has not done so. and we are compelled to follow the law. >> more than two dozen federal laws, some related related to environmental protection, will be waived to complete the construction. authorities will also continue deporting migrants back to venezuela as they try to slow arrivals. they plan on

sending up to $10 million to panama to help deport migrants back to their home countries. kwasi. >> thank you, gloria. migrants are facing a heat wave at the san ysidro border between california and mexico. volunteers from the american friends service committee have been supplying migrants with food and water supplies. hundreds of migrants are camping out, hoping that they can be processed by border patrol to get into the us. some families have been waiting for months. they're now trying to escape the dangerous heat by sheltering with tarps. volunteers say their supplies are in much higher demand. >> our water reserve is probably at a quarter of what we should have it, which means that these asylum seekers have been drinking much more water. they are being hit by the sun directly in 2021, nearly 220 people died along the southern border compared with the previous year, where more than 100 people died. >> still ahead, the new job numbers are out with that data could mean for the economy as a
