beach when it's hot like this here for the blue angels. >> we love you guys. guys >> from beating the heat at the beach to watching the blue angels along the embarcadero. it was a great day to be outside in san francisco. good evening. thank you for joining us. i'm dan ashley. >> and i'm ahmed daetz, the first of the three airshows for san francisco fleet week just wrapped up a short time ago. but before we get to the festivities, let's talk about this weather. >> yeah, this heat. we have abc seven news team coverage for you. our tara campbell will be with you in a moment. she talked to people who went to the beach today. yes. >> but let's begin with abc seven news meteorologist sandhya patel for details on the heat advisory in effect right now for some parts, sandhya. yeah, that's right and dan and that heat advisory has been extended until tomorrow night and i'll show you why. take a look at this live picture, just absolutely gorgeous for the blue angels. this is from our exploratorium camera, clear skies. these are the records so far. the official records will come down shortly. high temperatures so far, 95 degrees. that would tie the previous record. oakland and 93 degrees downtown town. and that would

tie the previous record as well. now, the official san francisco site, the sensor has been down since yesterday. it's still down today. but some of the unofficial readings have been in the 80s and 90s. today and look at the temperatures right now. many areas around the bay and inland in the 90s. so the heat is around that heat advisory until 11 p.m. tomorrow for the san francisco area bay shoreline. santa clara valley and the santa cruz mountains. if you're sensitive to heat, keep in mind it's a moderate to high heat risk as we go hour by hour. still pretty warm tonight as we go into 8 p.m. those temperatures begin to come down and tomorrow morning, it'll be much better. but then tomorrow afternoon, it warms right back up again, especially around the bay and inland. i'll let you know exactly where those temperatures will end up. but a look at fleet week forecast for tomorrow. it's going to start out bright, 70 degrees and warming up fast into the upper 80s here in san francisco and then dropping off later on at night. your weekend forecast is coming right up. almaden

>> all right. thank you, sandhya. and our team coverage continues with abc seven news reporter tara campbell, who talked to people today at the beach. >> yeah, it was great. she joins us live from the roof of our building with more on that. tara yeah, dan and omar, that heat is definitely punctuated up here on the roof. >> but earlier today, i was out there talking with locals and tourists alike. and while some are embracing this heat, others are definitely trying to escape it. it's sandcastles and smiles for this mother daughter duo. >> my house feels like a heater at the moment. >> escaping the san francisco heat at baker beach. >> i was lucky enough to recently get an box for just the bedroom, but the rest of the house is really hot, so we all kind of buckle up in the bedroom when it's really that hot shoes off and picnic blankets out as the city faces what's likely to be one of the hottest days of the year, we heard it was going to be like 80, 85 degrees today. >> so we're like, why don't we do a beach day? >> jordan daniels lives in oakland and says it's rare to

get a hot beach day like this in san francisco. >> not typical at all. usually we're in like sweaters. we have our jackets on. >> i love it being in australian. >> this is like heaven for me. i love living in san francisco, but it's just simply not warm enough. >> and across the golden gate bridge, plenty of tourists still making the trek. we walk the golden gate bridge this morning and it was beautiful. >> it was nice and cool. >> some rising early to get ahead of the heat. we did. >> we did get here a little bit early so that we could beat the heat. >> when you were planning this trip, were you expecting this kind of heat? >> no, no, no. we thought in san francisco it will be much not so hot. we are on holiday, so we take it as it comes. so no problem. >> meanwhile, back at the beach, concerns about the climate. i've been coming here since i was before i was born. >> let me just say that. and i've never seen it this way. it's scary. it's so hot. >> glenda hudson is visiting from denver with her granddaughters. this is the

first time i've come to this beach. >> and it's not like, you know, 60 degrees. but at the same time, it's kind of scary that that's actually happening now. >> now, obviously, the climate a big concern. another concern here in san francisco is the thousands of people living on the streets. now, the city has opened up some of the public libraries to act as cooling centers for today. and of course, the local nonprofits are also stepping up their outreach efforts. dan and alma okay, tara, thanks very much. >> tara campbell reporting. and as tara mentioned, the first of this weekend's three air shows was today wrapping up just a few hours ago. and people from all over the bay area certainly came out to watch it. it was thrilling, as usual. abc seven news reporter ryan curry is at one of the most popular viewing locations in the city. he's live at marina green. ryan >> yeah, thrilling is a really great way to put it. dan, a lot of people were out here at the marina embracing those warm conditions to get a good view of the blue angels, which just

wrapped up about an hour ago. resilient san franciscans. we're not going to let the heat stop them as many hugs the bay shoreline to get a good view of another jaw dropping display from the blue angels at roaring sound that graces the san francisco sky is back. the blue angels air show highlights fleet week, which residents say is one of san francisco's main events. >> i love jets. i love the military. you know, walking around, i thought like, man, if i was younger, i wish i kind of wish i would have joined a branch. >> sunnyvale resident brandon lichty is one of the many embracing the energy of the armed forces by braving out hot temperatures in san francisco to celebrate an event that began over four decades ago. i'm just taking it in. >> i don't even totally know what to expect because i've never been to an air show like this before. it's not just the navy all public service groups showed the public a glimpse of what they do. >> some showing if they have what it takes to be in the armed forces. children sat inside plane cockpits. others learned life saving measures like cpr

and some toward a mobile hospital put up by the marines. the fact that that we can come out here and do this and tell our story and just participate in this great event as our sea service is with with the coast guard and the navy. >> it's a it's really special for us. >> fleet week officials are also honoring military members for their work in helping the community at friday's ceremony. they are acknowledging christopher cox, a navy member who helped somebody who has been a victim of a stabbing earlier in the year in san diego, there was a gentleman that was just bleeding out on the sidewalk and so i went over to his aid and he was bleeding pretty badly. >> so i provided medical care. >> following his honoring is when the air show began, all leading to the big event of the day. the blue angels. >> it kind of feels like a movie, honestly, when i think of jets in the golden gate, i just think of like, you know, godzilla or some type of movie where jets are flying around. so i think that's what i'm most excited for, is just to experience that in real life.

well, it's not as destructive as a godzilla film, but given the fact that you are on a sunny day here near san francisco by the golden gate bridge, it's easy to think why would be as picturesque as a movie would be. >> fleet week officials, they are dedicating this entire weekend to the late senator dianne feinstein. of course, we know she was monumental in bringing the blue angels here to san francisco. so in the early 80s, we're live in san francisco, ryan curry, abc seven news, 1981 to be precise. >> so ryan, it's just such a stunning scene behind you. i could look at it all day. people are out in the heat for hours today. how do they stay? cool yeah, well, dan, it felt like a day at the beach, really. >> a typical day at the beach. a lot of people in bathing suits, many of those beach tents, beach umbrellas, all doing anything they can to make sure that the sun and the heat was not going to stop them from watching. what we all know and love every single year in this time in october. >> yeah, for sure. okay ryan, thanks so much. and don't forget, abc 7.com is your place for all things fleet week. just

check out the front page of our website to find a full schedule of this weekend's festivities. >> now to new developments in the search for a police chief in oakland. the city has extended the application deadline at the request of the firm conducting the process. the city administrator says the extension allows for the police commission to thoroughly recruit qualified candidates. the deadline had been last week on september 30th, but is now a week from today. on october 13th. after that, the next step of the process is sending a list of candidates to the mayor. >> in contra costa county, a rodeo couple accused of killing a two year old and physically abusing a ten month old baby went before a judge. they face murder, assault and torture charges, but the hearing was postponed two weeks. so the public defender's office could gather more information. abc7 news reporter suzanne fawn was in court on monday night. >> contra costa county sheriff's deputies arrested 22 year old destiny dabo and her 21 year old boyfriend, tyshawn haywood at their apartment on california street in rodeo. deputies responded to a call about a

child drowning in a bathtub tub, but authorities now say the two year old child actually died from prolonged abuse. >> we believe that that is not a true scenario. and that the deceased child suffered the abuse, which caused the death of that child. >> the couple now faces a number of felony charges, including murder, assault on a child causing death and torture. each person's bail has been set at more than $3 million. another child in the home, a ten month old baby, is now in the hospital with severe injuries. according to the deputy district attorney. >> that child is lucky to survive. and so because that child has survived, the charge is tortured and it's alleged to have occurred between august 15th and october second. >> we talked to several people in rodeo who lived on the same street as debo and haywood. they didn't see any red flags of alleged child abuse. >> it is really shocking to hear that neighbors we talked to say they were deeply disturbed by

to meet china's president xi jinping, face to face in san francisco at the apex summit, a mayor london breed commented today on the anticipation about that meeting. >> here yet again, san francisco playing a pivotal role on the international stage with our president and with the president of china, with other world leaders, because this is a economic cooperation. this is about about making sure that business opportunities exist between both of our countries so that there isn't a closed door. we have a large asian population in san francisco, and it's so important that we maintain a good relationship. >> the asia pacific economic cooperation summit will be held next month, november 14th to 16th. >> a call to action today by community leaders in the south bay. they came together to acknowledge latina equal pay day , calling on local leaders and businesses to close the wage gap. abc7 news reporter zach

fuentes has more on the issue and the demand for change. >> thursday marked latina equal pay day. friday a summit of community leaders and businesses came together to acknowledge it. latina equal pay day is the approximate day latinas have to work into the new year to make with their male counterparts made at the end of the year before it takes a latina to 22 months to make what a white male counterpart would make in one year's time. >> so they almost have to work two years time to make that of their white male counterparts. that isn't fair. that isn't sustainable. >> according to data provided to ucla, latinas nationally are paid $0.52 on the dollar compared to white non-hispanic men. overall latinas in california are paid $0.51 on the dollar compared to white men. those are the bachelors degree are paid $0.42 on the dollar. >> it's because things are more competitive. there's higher wages. you're competing at higher levels of leadership. >> gabriela chavez lopez is the executive director of latina coalition of silicon valley. she says locally, the wage gap can be even wider.

>> women of color, particularly black and latino women, as well as indigenous women, are really get the short end of the stick. and again, it's attributed to the number one reason is discrimination in the workplace. >> but advocates stress in the long run it's better for business to be equitable. javier diaz is ceo of ozone engineering. he says the salaries they offer are based only on experience and value, something that's benefited his company and increases morale. >> and it also increases diversity in the company. >> plus is also one of the groups pushing for wage equality locally and nationwide. they say conversations sparked by latina equal pay day need to continue year round. >> so programs that are working , how to put those metrics in place and collaborate with people to move the needle as calls continue for businesses to do better. >> chavez lopez says responsibility also needs to be placed on government. she says the coalition and partner organizations will continue to add pressure until the wage gap is closed. >> everyone benefits when women in particular are paid fairly and equally for equal work in

happened around 10:30 a.m. while workers were doing maintenance. health officials deployed a hazmat team but say they didn't find any visible coke dust in the surrounding communities. the dust is a by product of petroleum refining and poses a risk to the heart and lungs. this is the refinery's fourth coke dust release in the past year. >> all right. i was wrestling around back there looking for. remember that fan i got at a charity event that. oh, yes, it's back there somewhere i couldn't find. it but we do seem like we could use it. >> yes. abc7 news meteorologist is sandhya patel is here. when are we breaking this heat? right. one more day. okay. and then dan and alma, you will get a break from all this hot weather we've been expecting. >> dancing. yeah. that fan would come in handy. dan let's take a look at a live picture right now from our san rafael camera, where we are seeing just bright blue skies. certainly the breeze starting to pick up. 83 in the city, 85 degrees in oakland, low 90s from san jose to mountain view, palo alto, half moon bay, 82 degrees. we are looking from our east bay hills camera towards vollmer peak and you will notice just bright blue

skies, 94 degrees in santa rosa and napa, 97 right now in fairfield, low to mid 90s, concord and livermore. you might be happy to hear that the wind has started to come off the ocean. it is bringing that cooler ocean air in half moon bay, gusting to 21 miles an hour . high pressure in control of our weather which brought us the warm to hot weather today. temperatures well above average. we're into record territory. sfo now added to the list, 92 so far and that is a record that ties its old record for the day. as we look at live doppler seven, the fog is well off the coast still, but it'll get back in here this weekend and then you will notice some changes. so for fleet week tomorrow, it's going to be nice for the air show upper 80s here in the city. cooler for sunday with some fog but still pleasant 57 in the morning up to 70 degrees in the afternoon. as we look at a live picture from our san jose camera, we are seeing the sun as well. heat hangs around for one more day. tomorrow. fog returns

sunday. it's going to be breezy and cooler, much cooler monday and showers in the afternoon and evening. first thing tomorrow morning. starting off clear and certainly mild upper 50s to the mid 60s across many parts of the bay area, at least if you don't have ac which i know some homes don't, it is actually nice enough to where you can sleep. 95 degrees in the south bay tomorrow afternoon in san jose, 98 in gilroy. it's going to be a warm one on the peninsula, 92 in redwood city, upper 70s, though, near the coast. this is where you're going to first notice that the temperatures back off from today. downtown san francisco, 88 degrees. still warm in the sunset district, mid 80s north bay numbers mid 90s around san rafael, santa rosa, 91in napa heading into the east bay 88 in oakland, 91 degrees in fremont. inland areas will be on the toasty side again, 97 degrees in pleasanton, 98 in livermore, 96 degrees in concord . this might bring you some relief. take a look at this. yeah, cold front comes in monday afternoon. evening bringing us some wet weather and that lingering chance on tuesday.

vegan donut shop now located on the embarcadero. this seems like the perfect opportunity to get my feet wet and having what i'm riding off the mayor's coattails. >> a permanent storefront. so look forward to that. >> it collectively, the goal is to help revitalize downtown the vacant to vibrant program is accepting applications for future phases. the city helps business owners selected for the project to fund their pop ups. >> and for those of you making the most of this warm weather weekend, san francisco's north beach is having a big celebration. the italian heritage festival and parade is sunday. this annual event began in 1869. the street parade kicks off at 12:30 p.m. in fisherman's wharf, ending in washington square around 3 p.m. saint peter and paul school, all saints, peter and paul school will also be hosting a bazaar tomorrow and sunday, complete with barbecue rides and kid friendly games
