bakes in the october heat. that's triggered a weather advisory through tomorrow night. good evening. i'm ama daetz. >> and i'm dan ashley. thanks for joining us. another unseasonably warm day in the bay area with temperatures approaching 90 degrees in some spots. the typically of course, don't see this kind of heat this time of year. >> yeah. let's get a look at your 24 hour accuweather forecast with meteorologist sandhya patel sandhya. yeah we

had the autumn heat today dan and irma and those temperatures were in record territory so take a look at to who hit records today. oakland 93 sfo 92 and san jose 95. all ties with previous records, but it was plenty warm to hot. no matter where you were, it was up to 85.5 moon bay. 95. concord 98 in fairfield, 96 degrees in santa rosa. and even santa cruz, 97 degrees. so, yeah, we get heat in october, but this was a good 15 to 20 degrees above average. next 24 hours. here's what you can expect tomorrow morning. we're looking at 50 and 60s, the fog, trying to creep back in the afternoon. those temperatures are going to go up into the 80s and 90s, but near the coastline, they'll remain in the 70s. and then by evening those temperatures begin to come down and the fog comes in. but until then, we do have a heat advisory that has been extended until 11 p.m. tomorrow for the area shaded in orange, warmer than average conditions means moderate to high risk of heat

illnesses for those who are sensitive and for fleet week tomorrow, you couldn't ask for better weather. it's going to be fine. flying weather temperature of 70 degrees in the morning. sun's out. it's a warm day, mid 80s here in the city. and then dropping down to about 71 degrees. we do have some major changes in the accuweather forecast. i'll be back with the rest of your weekend and next week. coming up ama a man got vf the shark with his drone and says there were at least two other great whites in the area. abc7 news south bay. reporter lauren martinez spoke to the man as well as an expert who says the area is a hot spot for shark activity. >> a great white shark was captured on drone video swimming feet away from the shoreline in aptos. >> it's shark tober or that's what they call it. october, october. this is one of the big ones start showing up. >> eric maylander captured this impressive video on thursday afternoon from his boat off hidden beach. >> a lot of people come up to me, oh, well, how how close do sharks come to shore? and that video kind of speaks for itself

. it does speak volumes. >> maylander said it was a whale carcass that brought the sharks so close to shore. >> you have to realize that whale is decomposing and it's sending a lot of scent in the water, a lot of oil. >> maylander said he spotted two more sharks when this video was taken. the program director for the pacific shark research center of moss landing said it's not uncommon for them to be right under the surf. >> and i'll go up in like specialized helicopters out of watsonville and to look at them and i'll count 40 white sharks just around the cement boat. and they're like, right, just in back of the surf, just kind of hanging out during the day. and people are in the water splashing around. usually kids parents are sitting on the beach. they have no idea. there's like, you know, 40 white sharks just behind him. >> the recent sighting is unnerving for local residents going swimming is definitely not an option for me right now. >> i think it's fascinating. >> just the whole cycle of life and nature taking care of itself , but also scary for the past

eight years, ebert said, there's been a lot of young white sharks around the monterey area in the summer and fall. >> we're still on average 3 to 4 attacks. >> a year. so i try to tell it to people. so the sharks are not out there looking for people. they're not letting people put bluntly, you're not on the menu with the sharks. >> may through december is the time. great white sharks will be swimming off our coastline just trying to set the record straight and show people their wild animal. >> they're beautiful and we're very lucky to have them in our own backyard. most people will grow up in this area. >> they never see a white shark their entire life. but if you're so if you're in a boat or somewhere safe and you see one, you know, enjoy the moment, you know, and if you're in the water, just, you know, as calmly as you can make your way out of the water in aptos, lauren martinez, abc seven news and the national park service says it has scaled back recovery efforts for a swimmer who disappeared near point reyes national seashore. >> for 52 year old felix luis njai was reported missing sunday morning. he was last seen by friends about 100ft from shore.

they say he was attacked by a shark, but officials have not confirmed that. >> the unmistakable roar of the blue angels today, they once again soared and dazzled onlookers with their aerial acrobatics as fleet week gets into full swing for the weekend. so far, we've just seen perfect weather, which has only added to this year's festivities and delighted the crowds flocking to san francisco. abc7 news reporter tim jonze found people from all over who are taking in the sights and the sounds. >> one of the most exciting weekends of the year kicked off in san francisco friday. wing baby from the water to the skies . crowds of locals and tourists alike were dazzled by the sights and sounds of fleet week. >> something phenomenal that i've never experienced before, just in comparison to such a smaller country. >> at pier 39, dozens came out to watch one of the navy bands

perform. >> truly, san francisco is my favorite town to play in. >> adding to the festive mood was undoubtedly the weather. while last year's fleet week was cooler and damper than normal, san francisco local al says this weekend's high temperatures are definitely making up for it. >> we're going to go to north beach. we always come down here. i'll come down tomorrow again and see the show. i like to listen to the bands. everybody's had a band all around the city all week. >> during the height of the pandemic, it felt like everyone in san francisco had disappeared. but now we keep on hearing that the city finally feels like it's alive once again. one person who talks about the city's vibrancy was new resident london lee, who recently moved up north from los angeles. lee said even though she's heard about fleet week in the past, she's glad she finally gets to experience it in person . >> oh, i love it. it's like it's live. it's wonderful. people out here. the weather is amazing. >> while lee might be seeing fleet week for the first time for some members of the navy band, it will be their last. after more than 20 years performing in this special week

in the city by the bay drew williams says he's retiring, but he's making sure to take the memories with him. >> i've been holding back tears the whole week. tomorrow's going to be tough in san francisco. >> tim johns, abc7 news. >> all right, here are a few things you should know about the blue angels. they got their start back in 1946 and the team made its first flight that year in jacksonville, florida. the smoke you see from the jets isn't just for show. it also helps with safety, allowing the pilots to see one another while performing stunts. and just how close do the planes get to one another? how about eight 18in? this happens when they pull off a maneuver called the diamond 360, a fog can always be a factor, of course, in the bay area, in order to fly, the blue angels need at least three key nautical miles of visibility and the cloud ceiling has to be at least 1300ft, just remarkable. we've put together some of the highlights from this afternoon's aerial performance. you can watch it by going to our website , abc7 news.com. we've posted it

on the home page. >> new at 11 p-g-and-e's says some equipment failed tonight in san francisco, knocking out power to nearly 9000 customers. at 1.1 of the spots in the dark was kezar stadium, which was supposed to host two high school football game. since the lights were out, the game had to be postponed. p-g-and-e's hasn't said what caused the outage, but it is looking into whether it might be heat related. about 1600 customers are without their electricity right now in the south bay. santa clara police have released photos of a man and woman they are looking for in connection to a fight at levi's stadium. police say these people were fighting in the stands of the 49 ers game against the new york giants two weeks ago. officers have already arrested another person for assault and battery, but need help identifying the man and woman in these photos, investigators are asking anyone who recognize them to call santa clara police in the east bay oakland is ongoing effort to find a replacement for ousted police chief leronne armstrong may take even longer. >> the city has extended the

application deadline at the request of the firm conducts the process. oakland's city administrator says the extension allows for the police commission to thoroughly recruit quality candidates. the deadline had been last week, but is now a week from today after that, the next step in the process is to send a list of candidates to mayor shengtao how she fired armstrong in february. he is fighting to get his job back. new developments. oakland is a step closer to adding more automated license plate readers. the city's privacy advisory commission recommended approval for a sensible use policy, they call it, that protects individual privacy. the policy will now go to the city council for discussion and approval. mayor shengtao says the new modern system is necessary to fight the city's rising crime problem. oakland is looking to add around 300 surveillance cameras all around the city. >> the planned kaiser strike that was set to end today will now continue until tomorrow morning. 23,000 bay area employees are taking part, plus

50,000 across the country, making this the largest health care strike in us history do we walk hot troc. >> what do we want it out? >> kaiser says negotiations are set to resume next thursday. union president dave reagan says acting us secretary of labor julie su has spoken to both sides and that she may attend those negotiations in oakland. >> i think she's already begun to get involved and is playing a valuable role and i believe she'll be willing to continue to be involved and help us get to an agreement. >> reagan also said if negotiations for a better staffing fail, the union is planning for a longer strike in november and the united auto workers union is not expanding its strike against detroit's big three automakers. after a breakthrough, the companies agreed to unionize their electric vehicle battery plants. the uaw president says significant progress has been made in talks with general

200 and 300ft off a cliff, but it's unclear what caused the driver to veer off the road. no word yet on that driver's condition. >> a great deal on a great home. certainly a great deal for the woman who is not paying anything to live here. it started out as a six month rental through airbnb and now she's lived there for more than two years. records show the woman did this at least once before in oakland. reporter christiane cordero from our sister station in los angeles talked with a landlord about how this happened in brentwood's, hillside sits a community i level with the getty center, whose neighbors include lebron james and fergie. >> but the resident everyone seems to be talking about today lives here for free. >> my husband yesterday was outside and some guy comes by and goes, do you know you're living next door to a squatter, a periodontist named alexander or sasha jovanovich bought this house in 1995. >> through the years, he's remodeled it, and in 2019 decided to rent the guest house out on airbnb. that's how his and elizabeth hirschhorn's paths crossed. she was looking for a

place to stay for six months, reached out and ended up here. that was two years ago. repairs the guest house needed four months in, caused the initial animosity which led jovanovic to extend the tenant stay beyond her airbnb reservation option because they made an unofficial agreement. airbnb is no longer getting involved and the guest house itself doesn't have the right permit. so jovanovic needs to find a legal reason to evict her. >> it's a pretty nice place she's squatting in, you know, it looks like a glass room and very nice, which he has yet to do successfully. >> hirschhorn stopped paying in april 2022, according to court documents. >> i think it's going to get more unpleasant for her now because i think the whole neighborhood heard about it. >> we spoke with jovanovic moments ago. >> i had no idea that the shower was not permitted. i didn't even know that the guest house was not permitted. it was just like a total oversight. >> hirshhorn's attorney told the la times jovanovic has harassed her. she's suing for intentional infliction of emotional distress . among other things, jovanovic just wants her gone. and the

nearly $60,000 in owed rent paid , all of which is now for a judge to decide. christiane cordero, abc seven news co-founder gary wang testified in court today against sam bankman-fried. >> he told the court that bankman-fried authored the illegal use of customers, funds and assets to plug gaps in the hedge fund. alameda research. wang is one of a number of ftx's executives who agreed to testify against bankman-fried in exchange for leniency in their own cases. wang has pleaded guilty to wire fraud, securities and commodities fraud. >> and former house speaker kevin mccarthy is denying speculation that he's going to resign amid reports that he was considering stepping down soon. mccarthy told reporters today he is staying put. >> you're not resigning? >> no, i'm not resigning. >> so you'll stay the entire term? i'll stay here, so don't worry. >> i got you thinking about running for reelection. >> yes. >> yes. you will run or yes, you're thinking about running. >> keep the majority. i'm going to help the people i got here and we're going to expand it

further. >> the house voted to oust mccarthy tuesday from his position as house speaker. initially afterward, he said he didn't intend to run again, but his comments today show he's more reassured this all just days after the california republican secured a last minute budget deal with the help of house democrats to avoid a government shutdown. >> new at 11, you could have some money coming from delta. the airlines will pay millions to customers after refusing to refund canceled flights during the covid 19 pandemic. instead of issuing refunds, delta provided customers with credit for future travel. now, the lawsuit claimed that policy was unfair and deceptive. dealt ba will pay $27 million to customers who filed claims in the lawsuit. the company says it does not admit any wrongdoing, saying it has refunded 11 million tickets worth $6 million in the north bay. >> the dominican sisters of san rafael have made the difficult choice to sell their spiritual retreat center. the center isn't far from the dominican university of california campus. the chapel is part of the santa

sabina center, a nondenominational place for meditation, refuge and spiritual retreat. dwindling numbers and rising costs of maintenance has forced the sisters to sell the center. they love. >> it would feel like a total desecration if it were destroyed or replace it. but we have to accept whatever comes next. we're surrendering this to a future that we know not and control. >> not the asking price for the center will start at 11.5 million. potential buyers must state their intentions for the property. >> a spanish company entered the space race tonight, finally was able to successfully launch its first rocket, although the mission was not a long one, it was only scheduled to last 12 minutes. this is the first private, reusable rocket launched in europe. two previous attempts failed. the rocket splashed down in the atlantic ocean and is now being recovered for analysis. but success all right. >> well, let's successfully drop our temperatures that happen.

>> yeah, we could use a little bit of a break. it's been so warm. abc seven news meteorologist sandhya patel is here. >> sandy yeah. and dan and ask and you shall receive. so tomorrow we're going to start to notice the cold starts to come down sunday everyone will cool. let me show you these live views from our tower cameras. no matter which direction you look , visibility is unbelievable. i mean, you can see for miles and here's a look from emeryville camera as we look at san francisco, sutro tower, salesforce tower there in the back ground as we take a look at our high temperatures tomorrow versus the record is even though we had a couple of records tied today, we're only expecting one if san jose hits 95 degrees, breaking the old record of 94 is set in 1996, but a couple of cities will get close, like oakland, sfo livermore may be close as well, so stay tuned. high pressure is the dominant force. that's what provided us with the downsloping wind and provided us with the heat. today but guess what's showing up just off the coastline in here is we

do have some fog and that is going to be creeping its way back towards the coast, setting the stage for some cooler weather, first at the beaches and then for all areas as we head towards sunday. right now, not a whole lot of cooling. it's in the 60s and the 70s, still pretty mild out there. and for fleet week festivities, the blue angels, i mean, you couldn't ask for better weather. nice for the air show tomorrow 86 degrees. the sun will be out on sunday. it is going to get cooler and there will be some fog. but i'm not anticipate it to be a repeat of last year where they couldn't fly for some of the time that they were here. so here's a view from our sutro tower camera. and the golden gate bridge is absolutely glorious. there heat hangs around for one more day tomorrow. fog is back. relief arrives for all areas sunday and much cooler weather for monday with showers in the afternoon and evening. you're looking at coit tower here in san francisco . are your air quality the next two days good to moderate in the morning. look out for temperatures in the 50s and the mid 60s. a few upper 60s in

places like san jose. so i think you can get away with short sleeve weather and pretty much do it in the afternoon as well. look at how hot it's going to get. shorts short sleeve weather 98 in morgan hill, 95 in san jose in the south bay, 92 degrees in milpitas on the peninsula and redwood city, 79.5 moon bay. so this is where you first notice the temperatures coming down as a sea breeze is also back 86 in downtown san francisco, 79 in daly city, north bay numbers mid 90s from sonoma to santa rosa, san rafael, napa. nice day 91 degrees well above average again in the east bay 88 in oakland 90 for you in newark 91. fremont inland areas 97. fairfield 98 degrees in livermore. so it's going to be hot. not for long. monday, a cold front comes in and brings us some rain in the afternoon and evening going into tuesday. we have another quick moving front with the lingering chance of some showers. so rainfall projections, this is early, anywhere from a few hundredths of an inch to about a third of an inch. there may be some wetter spots that pick up up to a half an inch.

if you go to italy and you go around the cities, you can find the butcher shop, the fish shop, you know, the market, and restaurant. so, everything is incorporated in one location. this is the beauty of eataly, so basically, when you come here, you can feel in italy. and when you sit at a table, you taste italian food. the philosophy of the company is eat, shop, and learn. so, basically you can experience our restaurants and get familiar with italian cuisine, italian dishes, italian ingredients. and then you can shop for the same high-quality ingredients in our market. and at the same time, you can also learn through one of our classes how to recreate those dishes at home. italian cuisine is simple, based on high-quality ingredients, and everybody could recreate that at home. we have three floors.

on the first floor we have different quick service and fresh counters where you can find freshly made pizza, gelato, italian pastries. and then we have a second floor that is pretty unique, because it's entirely dedicated to wine. we have the largest italian wine shop with more than 1,000 different labels. and we also have a space dedicated to a cooking school on the second floor, where you can sign up for different classes, or you can do private events as well. and then, we have the third floor, that is the biggest, where we have the marketplace with 10,000 different italian and local products. and we have the two main restaurants, la pizza pasta and terra. 48,000 square feet. antonio: la pizza la pasta is a restaurant where we feature two of the most iconic italian dishes. one is la pizza, and the other one is la pasta. and our pasta is homemade, it's all homemade.
