>> in fact, the beaches were even hot. we were talking about that today. the last really hot day out there. and we're starting with live doppler seven. so you can see the fog down around san diego. otherwise most of the shoreline is clear. and we're looking for that fog to return about this time tomorrow. so the heat advisory until 11:00. you can see temperatures still from the mid 80s to the upper 90s. that's ten to about 17 degrees above average. current numbers right now. look at that, san francisco, 70 degrees, 63 in oakland, 68, san mateo with cooler 50s up in the north bay. so compared to yesterday, say it is a couple of degrees cooler from santa rosa, but overall, very little change until late in the day today where we get a weak onshore flow at our beaches . so the only changes will be a few degrees cooler there. you'll notice it will still be in the 80s though, along the coastline temporarily before that sea breeze kicks in and upper 90s inland. we'll track that cooldown for tomorrow. coming up, gloria. >> all right. thank you so much, lisa. we are in day four of what

was planned as a three day strike for kaiser employees. with a strike now ending in just under an hour from now. and it is likely to end without a settlement. the us labor department is getting involved to help bring an end to what is the largest health care strike in us history. abc seven news reporter anchor hasan has more from the union president. >> yes, the president supports the strikers collective bargaining works. >> the union of health care workers president dave reagan telling striking workers that president biden is backing their cause. >> we got to run through the finish line, but we are winning this thing. >> let's keep it up. who's got the power? what kind of power? union power. >> reagan says there have been no negotiations since tuesday. staffing levels remains one of the critical issues. >> the core of everything is we just don't have enough people to do the job. kaiser has refused to give us information that we believe we're entitled to. that's why we think this is what's called an unfair labor practice strike. >> kaiser declined an interview request, saying it won't discuss

details out of respect for the bargaining process. the union says the workload has increased , which impacts patient care. they want 10,000 new employees to be hired. in an email to abc seven news on tuesday, kaiser claims the demand to hire 10,000 employees has been met. >> they say they've filled 10,000 positions. if you're really careful, most of that is people who are doing internal transfer years. they've not gotten their their parsing words. it's just not true. how do we walk hot troc. >> what do we want it about reagan announced on friday to employees at kaiser walnut creek that acting us secretary of labor julie su is now getting involved. >> i think she's already begun to get involved and is playing a valuable role and i believe she'll be willing to continue to be involved and help us get to an agreement when the government steps in, they're stepping in effective early on the side of the employer. >> professor robert oaks, a union member himself, says the

announcement. another sign the strike could end soon are the union president said that the companies are bumping up their offers with wage increases. new this morning, one person is dead and two others are injured after a shooting in richmond. the incident happened last night near 23rd street just before 8 p.m. police say when they arrived, they found three victims who had been shot. two of the victims were transported to a local trauma center to be treated. and the other victim did not survive. richmond police say that this is an ongoing investigation and they have not released any information about a possible suspect in the east bay. it's already been months and oakland's effort to find a replacement for ousted police chief laurent armstrong may take even longer. the city has extended the application deadline at the request of the firm conducting the process. oakland city administrator says at the extension allows for the police commission to thoroughly recruit quality candidates. the

deadline had been last week, but now it is next friday. after that, the next step of the process is to send a list of candidates to mayor qingtao. she fired armstrong in february and he is fighting to get that job back. the biden administration is defending the decision this week to approve new sections of a border wall. this is a massive increase in migrant crossing along the southern border overwhelms resources in communities around around the country. abc's derrick dennis has more. >> border towns and major cities feeling the strain from a surge of migrants. mexican officials now reviewing this video showing hundreds of migrants rushing to enter the us aid groups at the border, saying they face a humanitarian crisis. >> there are anywhere between 150 to 800 people every day and that's a revolving number. so it's not the same people out. >> up to 25 busses of migrants arrive in chicago each day. city officials say the mayor, they're

making plans to visit the border. and during a tour of latin america, new york city mayor eric adams asking migrants not to come, going to uphold our values as a city of immigrants, but to do that, we need to stabilize this city nation. the biden administration facing pressure to act, announcing a stunning reversal, clearing the way for the construction of nearly 20 additional miles of border wall in south texas. despite biden's campaign promise he would not. and just this week, president biden saying he does not believe the border wall works. >> i was told that i had no choice. i can't say i don't like it. i'm not going to do it. >> the white house saying federal law requires they use funds put aside for border wall construction under the trump administration. but while announcing the project, homeland security director alejandro mayorkas saying there is an acute and immediate need for the construction in order to prevent unlawful entries into the united states. mexico's president

rejecting the plan, calling the move a step backwards. dare dennis abc news new york. >> p-g-and-e's says some equipment failed yesterday in san francisco, knocking out power to nearly 9000 customers at one point kezar stadium was in the dark. >> it was supposed to host a high school football game and that game had to be postponed. pga says that, well, they really haven't told us what caused that outage, but they are looking into whether it might be due to the heat. about 500 customers are without electricity right now. pga says that power may be restored this afternoon in the south bay santa clara. police have released photos of a man and woman they're looking for in connection to a fight levi stadium. police say that these people were fighting in the stands of the 49 ers game against the new york giants two weeks ago. officers have already arrested another person for assault and battery, but they need help identifying the man and woman in these photos.

investigators are asking anybody who recognize them to call santa clara police. roar from the blue angels, they once again soared and dazzled onlookers with their aerial acrobatics. as fleet week gets into full swing for the weekend. and so far, we have just seen perfect weather. and that, of course, has delighted the crowd flocking to san francisco. abc7 news reporter tim johns found people from all over who are taking in the sights and the sounds as one of the most exciting weekends of the year. >> kicked off in san francisco friday week. baby from the water to the skies, the crowds of locals and tourists alike were dazzled by the sights and sounds of fleet week, something phenomenal that i've never experienced before, just in comparison to such a smaller

country. at pier 39, dozens came out to watch one of the navy bands perform. truly, san francisco is my favorite town to play in. adding to the festive mood was undoubtedly the weather. while last year's fleet week was cooler and damper than normal. san francisco local al says this weekend's high temperatures are definitely making up for it. >> we're going to go to north beach. we always come down here. i'll come down tomorrow again, see the show. i'd like to listen to the bands. everybody's had a band all around the city all week. during the height of the pandemic, it felt like everyone in san francisco had disappeared . >> but now we keep on hearing that the city finally feels like it's alive once again. one person who talks about the city's vibrancy was new resident london lee, who recently moved up north from los angeles. lee said even though she's heard about fleet week in the past, she's glad she finally gets to experience it in person. >> oh, i love it. it's like it's live. it's wonderful people out here. the weather is amazing. >> while lee might be seeing fleet week for the first time for some members of the navy

your forecast with lisa coming up in just a little bit. a great white shark is spotted swimming dangerously close to shore in aptos. the sighting happened off hidden beach on thursday. and a man got video of the shark with his drone and says there were at least two other great whites in the area. abc7 news south bay reporter lauren martinez spoke to the man as well as an expert who says the area is a hotspot for shark activity. >> a great white shark was captured on drone video swimming feet away from the shoreline in aptos. >> it's shark tober. that's what they call it. october, october. this is one of the big ones. start showing up. >> eric maylander captured this impressive video on thursday

afternoon from his boat off hidden beach. >> a lot of people come up to me. oh, well, how close do sharks come to shore? and that video kind of speaks for itself. it does speak volumes, maylander said it was a whale carcass that brought the sharks so close to shore. you have to realize that whales decompose and it's sending a lot of scent in the water, a lot of oil. >> maylander said he spotted two more sharks when this video was taken. the program director for the pacific shark research center of moss landing said it's not uncommon for them to be right under the surf. >> and i'll go up in like specialize helicopters out of watsonville and to look at them and i'll count 40 white sharks just around the cement boat. and they're like, right, just in back of the surf, just kind of hanging out during the day and people are in the water splashing around. usually kids parents are sitting on the beach. they have no idea. there's like, you know, 40 white sharks just behind him. the recent sighting is unnerving for local residents going swimming

missing near point reyes national seashore. >> 52 year old felix lewis njai was reported missing on sunday morning. he was last seen by friends about 100ft from shore. they say he was attacked by a shark, but officials have not confirmed that. an update on some stories about building a better bay area concert action of 200 units of emergency housing is moving forward in san jose following a vote from vta's board of directors. it's a five year lease agreement for land owned by vta under the deal. the development must include mental health services, drug and alcohol rehabilitation, food services, as well as transportation. earlier, a vta report found that staff had security and safety concerns over n employees living near largeehicles. the site is just more than seven acres. it's located at the soroni bus yard in north san jose. a hotel located in san francisco's

tenderloin neighborhood plans to remove its sprinkler system that's near a popular homeless encampment. the sprinkler sprinkler system along the best western red coach inn at eddy street failed fillled a city inspection on thursday day. according to the sf chronicle, the city determined that the sprinkler eyes were improperly installed and the inspection was prompted by public backlash that the hotel received for installing the sprinklers. hotel management says that they were not installed to keep away unhoused people, but rather to clean the sidewalk. oakland is a step closer to adding more automated license plate readers as the city's privacy advisory commission recommended approval of a sensible use policy that protects individual privacy. the policy will now go to the city council for approval. mayor shengtao says that the new modern system is necessary to fight the city's rising crime rates. oakland is looking at about 100 or 300 actually

surveillance cameras throughout the city. in the north bay, the dominican sisters of san rafael have made the difficult choice to sell their spiritu retreat center. the nt is not far from the dominican university of california campus. the chapel is part of the santa sabina center. that's a nondenominational place for meditation refuge and spiritual retreat. dwindling numbers and rising costs of maintenance has forced the sisters to sell the center door that they love. it would feel like a total desecration if it were destroyed or replaced, but we have to accept whatever comes next. >> we're surrendering this to a future that we know not and control, not. >> the asking price for the center will start at 11.5 million million. potential buyers must state their intentions for that property. well, we've been talking about this beautiful weather the last few days. meteorologist lisa

argen is tracking the forecast first, and i know that it has been really nice, but for some people it's getting a little almost too hot right? yeah. >> you know, the thing about october, though, it's pretty tolerable because once that sun begins, begins to set, it really does cool off with the longer nights. so it is really a lot of people's favorite time of year and one more day where we have temperatures well above average. it's been four days and on friday we saw 90 at the coast yesterday day 80s and today we will see a few 80s early on. but the onshore gradients are returning later on today. so that means fog and slightly cooler at the coast. there's a look at the marine layer still well offshore. 63 right now in oakland, upper 60s in alameda, as well as hayward. it is 62 in union city. so pretty mild out there. but some areas with that wind really calm have dropped into the 50s. look at 54 by the delta upper 60s, san francisco and 52 in novato. so nice clear

sky with that strong ridge still in place. so our heat hangs around for one more day looking at the fog coming back, maybe 3:00 tomorrow morning, allowing for some gray sky along the coast early sunday and then it's a nice day, but as much as 10 to 13 degrees cooler on sunday. another drop of another ten to maybe 15 degrees for you on monday. and we're going to track some showers, bringing in our storm impact scale for monday. here's a look at that fog offshore as we go through the day, it begins to move closer to the coast, but it still stays at the coast. and we're looking at sunny and hot conditions inland, early by sunday. here comes the fog. so that brings the cooler weather with us throughout the day on sunday. in fact, much cooler. so as we look at our highs, you still see those 90s inland, but we're looking at those 70s over in oakland, 60s return for san francisco and then on the coast back to the 60s. look what happens monday.

this is rain off shore highs only in the upper 60s and as we get into your tuesday still below average, pretty gray out there, but we will get back on track to some more average weather by about the middle of the week. so there's the cold front on monday, it pushes through and then another slug of moisture to the north of us on tuesday. so talk about a 180in terms of rainfall at this point. this model bringing in about 2/10 up in santa rosa, lesser amounts elsewhere for today. notice upper 80s downtown, 70 d tomorrow for the air show and then highs today ranging from the mid 80s in san francisco, 88 palo alto. we were well into the 90s redwood city few degrees cooler but still mid and upper 90s inland and then the accuweather seven day forecast today hottest day by far the cooling gets underway overnight tonight into sunday level one system on monday. showers arrive monday night into tuesday. so we've got everything and then by

gloria rodriguez. meteorology missed lisa. arjun is continuing to track a heat advisory. good morning to you, lisa. >> hey, good morning, gloria. until 11:00 tonight for san francisco and around the monterey bay where temperatures continue to be about 10 to 15 degrees above average today is the last day that we'll see temperatures a little uncomfortable for some, but i think most are probably enjoying the october warmth as we get into little patchy fog offshore later on throughout the overnight hours, upper 60s san francisco. it is 55 half moon bay as well as santa rosa 66 in concord. so we're the wind has been very calm and those light offshore gradients we are certainly holding on to that warmth but cooler up in the north bay. here's the plan for about 9:00. we're into the low 70s inland. you can see that fog offshore as we get into the afternoon, getting close to half moon bay, but still 90 upper 90s inland, a few 80s at the coast early on, but that sea breeze returns today. fog tonight cooler for your sunday.

better staffing fail, the union is planning for a longer strike in november. and this morning we are learning that some walgreens employees are staging a series of walk outs next week. they say that harsh working conditions make it difficult to safely fill prescriptions and they believe this could put customers at risk . in a statement, walgreens acknowledge that employees are overworked and landlords are attempting to make the san francisco housing market more appealing to renters. according to the sf chronicle, nearly 40% of landlords are offering deals in their zillow postings to draw in more renters. zillow data shows that in august, 39% of its rentals offered some kind of deal. the discounts included a few weeks of free rent, lower rent or free parking. in 2021, concessions went up 45, compared to 20% in 2019. in san francisco is now making it easier to get

people off the streets and into housing. people will be able to get shelter without having to present proper documentation. abc seven news reporter ryan curry spoke with the city's homeless department about that change. >> san francisco is removing a barrier that made it difficult for some on the streets to access shelter. the city's department of homeless and supportive housing says people can now get a temporary place to stay without documentation. this is a real opportunity for us to move people directly off of the street and into housing. unhoused residents seeking shelter through the department once needed to show a driver's license or social security card. the department says oftentimes those experiencing homelessness couldn't provide those documents . >> what we knew was that there were a lot of people on the street who had been determined to need housing based on their vulnerability, but that the system we were using wasn't effective in getting those folks into housing. >> this started as a pilot program back in june, and so far the department says it helped 19

seven sports director larry beale has a look at the matchup in your morning sports. >> good morning, everybody. the 49 ers championship window is open right now and they will add to the roster to try to get closer to the super bowl and they just traded for randy gregory, who played four seasons for dallas, had some marijuana related suspensions that kept him off the field for a while. but all that stuff was years ago. he signed a massive deal last season with denver. they decided he just wasn't a good fit. the niners swooped in. they offered a sixth round pick in return for gregory and a seventh rounder coming back from denver broncos. we're just going to cut him outright and the broncos are paying him $10 million to leave the 49 ers just paying him the veteran's minimum. gregory will not play against dallas on sunday night at levi's, but christian mccaffrey is going to be looking to add to his streak of 13 straight games with a touchdown that happens to be a niners franchise record. the 49 ers have knocked dallas out of the playoffs two years in a row. but mccaffrey says past results probably won't mean much on

fleet week. but today, the last day, if you're planning to get out and enjoy it, as will be much cooler tomorrow, the marine layer making some tracks to return overnight tonight into your sunday. so live doppler seven picking up on the low clouds, the fog. how about the mild temperatures? 68 in hayward, 63 in oakland. it is in the upper 60s in alameda. but san francisco, one of the warmer spots. but down the road in pacifica, just 54, 63 in los gatos with 55 in santa rosa. a beautiful view here. the sun coming up at 710. so those longer nights allowing for some of the cooling overnight. but i bet a lot of fans still going there. so the heat hanging around for one more day. by late in the day, the onshore flow returns to the coast. so i don't think we're going to see that 91 we saw friday at half moon bay. the fog will be back overnight. so that allows for relief for everyone on sunday and then much cooler. so about 10 to 13 degrees cooling for your sunday , another ten to maybe 15 degrees of cooling on monday with a cold front and some rain

showers to track on the way. here is the fog. then this morning, it's offshore as we go throughout the day, as it gets closer to the san mateo coast, the marin county coast, and then by the overnight hours, it begins to push on inland. waking up sunday morning to some patchy fog through santa rosa, the san mateo coast. but sunny afternoon, the sea breeze, though returning for sure for our sunday. hopefully not getting in the way of the fog for the blue angels. it should be right at the coast for livermore upper 90s today average high low 80s. you can see the drop off for your sunday look at monday. no one should probably reach 70 degrees and then we'll be coming up slowly to near average temperatures by the second half of the upcoming workweek. so here is that cold front we're tracking for monday. most of the activity staying well to the north of us. so a couple areas of moisture for monday into tuesday and then breaking it down this forecast model bringing us into late monday night. most of the rain focusing up in the north bay

with about 2/10 here and then maybe a 10th or so down through san francisco. this will change in the next couple of days, but probably nothing at all to the santa clara valley as we look at the day to day, 73 by about 10:00 for the air show, getting up into the 80s, once again. so a very warm day, not quite as hot as yesterday. i don't think you'll feel a little bit of a breeze mid 90s in san jose. how about 91 in milpitas? redwood city 92. you were 96 yesterday day on the coast, upper 70s to near 80 early on then the sea breeze comes into play in the north bay 92, petaluma 95 santa rosa looking at about 90. san leandro oakland upper 80s for you. you head inland and all of that warmth still with you in pittsburgh at 96, 98. in the livermore valley with pleasanton at about 97, you're only about 60 right now in pleasanton. the accuweather seven day forecast so warm to hot again around the bay with our heat advisory for one more day in san francisco.
