the weather. hi, drew. hey, good morning. >> we are taking a look outside. our marine layer is back this morning. a live look from the exploratorium camera. we are all waking up to mostly cloudy skies this morning and dramatically cooler temperatures compared to the past couple of mornings. many of us starting in the low and mid 50s, take the light jacket with you because they're not only tracking some cooler days ahead, but also some light showers possible later on today. here's live. doppler seven. we're tracking our next cold front. i think the best chance of any wet weather is likely in the north bay. it's very light out in nature and very isolated in nature. so here's future weather. we go hour by hour. it's just a pretty cloudy day for all of us today into the afternoon, you can see some pops of green in the north bay. but for a lot of us outside of the north bay, it's just a mostly cloudy day and a cool day. so we'll have an isolated shower chance in napa, santa rosa, even in parts of san rafael and lakeport, elsewhere, it's mostly cloudy and temperatures at or just below average. far cry from the heat we had late last week. reggie we'll take a look at the extended forecast in a few

minutes. >> drew, thank you. developing news, an all out war in the middle east this morning with israel imposing a total siege on gaza, saying authorities would cut electricity and block the entry of food and fuel. gloria is at the live desk with the latest on this crisis. gloria >> good morning, reggie. israel says it has retaken control around gaza. the total number of deaths has surpassed 11 100 as fighting continues for a third day now. the violence began early saturday after the militant group hamas fired a barrage of rockets catching israel off guard. this music festival turned to panic. jennifer dantes, 22 year old daughter kim was at that festival. she is now missing. >> kim didn't realize that there was like 7 or 8 toyota vans full of terrorists, and they just shot everywhere. they just shot them, slaughtered them like ducks. >> the israeli rescue service says more than 260 bodies were recovered at the scene. video

show palestine militants taking israeli hostages lives near the border with gaza, including young children and the elderly. the government says as many as 100 people have been kidnaped, but speculation is growing over iran's possible involvement. but iran says it had nothing to do with israel's invasion. prime minister benjamin netanyahu warned israelis to brace themselves for the days ahead. he issued this statement. it says, we are embarking on a long and difficult war that was forced on us by a murderous hamas attack. president biden is pledging us support for israel while a us carrier strike group is on its way to the middle east . the pentagon sending weapons and ammunition. it's also moving us warships and fighter jets to the region. reggie >> gloria, thank you. according to an internal us government memo reviewed by cnn, at least four americans have been killed in the attacks. the israeli minister of strategic strategic

airlines to use caution when flying through israeli airspace . american, delta and united have already canceled flights into and out of tel aviv. aaron katersky, abc news, new york. >> david muir will be reporting and anchoring world news tonight from israel starting tonight. you can catch him at 330 right after getting answers on abc seven tourists are returning to west maui during a phased reopening. it started over the weekend. some residents signed a petition to delay the reopening as families continue to struggle to recover. one food truck owner says business traffic is down dramatically and now they're just trying to survive of probably for like 800 to 1000 people a night between, you know, tourists and local people . >> and right now, we have about 20, maybe 30, the most. we just need to keep moving forward. i understand a lot of people having issues with opening, but we need to survive. it's the only way. >> the hawaii tourism authority says tourism is the number one

driver of the state's economy. >> 509 this morning and we are tracking cooler, cloudier changes today and even the chance of a light shower. we had our heat wave break yesterday is starting to see cooler air move in our marine layer returned yesterday and now we have a cold front that is approaching northern california. you can see it pretty well on live doppler seven along with satellite, will press in a little bit tighter. most of this moisture is going to fall north of our region around eureka. we'll get the tail end of this front later on today. and it's the best chance in the north bay of finding any light showers over the next 24 hours. we'll take you outside and a live look from our san jose camera. it is a cloudy start for most of us this morning. temperatures beginning in the 50s and today is the day where most of us will land below average when it comes to our daytime highs. it's mostly cloudy today. some peeks of sunshine here and there between about 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. there will be that chance of a light shower in the north bay for most of us outside of the north bay.

it's just a dry, mostly cloudy day. temperatures in the mid 60s to the low 70s. so certainly a lot cooler than, say, some of our afternoon temperatures late last week. it feels a lot more comfortable later on this afternoon. so a high of 69 in oakland today, 68 in the city, 75 in san jose in the north bay will watch for a couple of isolated showers popping up mainly in the upper 60s to lower 70s from santa rosa to san rafael. we'll keep that chance of an isolated shower in the north bay. even tomorrow. but by wednesday we have drier skies, brighter skies and warmer temperatures. we'll preview the weekend forecast on the seven day coming up in a few minutes. let's check in with gloria and see how traffic's doing. good morning, drew. >> so far, looking pretty good out there on the roads. we're going to get a look at our san mateo bridge camera. and right now, traffic is light going westbound to the peninsula. and if you take a look from the toll plaza to foster city, that'll only take you 12 minutes. and now a look at your drive time traffic if you're going westbound on 580 from tracy to dublin, that will take you 34

local governments license cannabis shops to offer food and beverages and to sell tickets to live performances. as the governor said that he vetoed the bill out of concern that it would undermine the state's smoke free workplace protections. the governor also vetoed a bill that would have capped the price insurance companies can charge for insulin at $35 for a 30 day supply. newsom said earlier this year that california has a contract with a pharmaceutical company that will start making its own brand. the governor pointed this out while announcing the veto. attorney general rob bonta sued over the price of insulin in january. manufacturers promised they would lower the price. >> a bill governor newsom did sign into law was prohibiting hidden or junk fees in california. so this bill prohibits the act of deceptive advertising. low prices and then tacking on additional required fees either in fine print or toward the end of the transaction. one of the state senators that proposed the bill, bill dodd, says that the goal was to put consumers first and

tuesday? tuesday you know. sounds great outside this morning, we have big changes compared to last week. we have cloudier skies, cooler temperatures. it feels a lot more like autumn on the forecast . so we are much cooler the next few days. today and tomorrow, we have the chance of some showers in the north bay as one, one and two, two and three. we have actually a couple of cold fronts we are tracking moving through here over next couple of days and then we'll find drier and warmer weather by midweek. we're dry out there right now. here's live. doppler seven sweeping around the region. it will try and track some showers later on today. here's the cold front just beginning to move onshore near eureka. again with these early season cold fronts, most of the moisture falls apart when it approaches our neck of the woods, but the north bay has a chance of a light shower. here's future weather by 930 this morning, probably cloverdale points to the north and along the coast having a chance of a shower. but watch as this system really falls apart. i don't think it's out of the question. let's say the city even parts of the east bay, could see a quick sprinkle. but for the most part, we're not tracking any organized steady rain throughout the day

everything is in the green. >> thank you, gloria. back to our top story this morning, israel has declared war after a terrorist attack by the palestinian militant group hamas. here is abc news reporter justin finch with the latest out . this morning. >> israeli forces unleashing relentless airstrikes targeting the gaza strip after formally declaring war in the wake of a surprise strike from the palestinian militant group hamas . >> and as you just heard, that, that's the sound of a mortar coming in from gaza. this is being fired by hamas militants while israelis are trying to deal with hamas, not just across in gaza, but also here, still inside israel. >> israel pounding hundreds of targets in the palestinian territory, retaliated for what's being called the worst attack on israel in 50 years. is that is intolerable for any democracy tsay it's intolerable for israel over delete altitude restriction.

victims of terror. and we know that as this escalates into what we expect to be a full war, there'll be a greater need for that. >> ryan curry, abc seven news. >> we're seeing we're seeing new video evidence showing two police officers playing a video game instead of responding to an emergency call. gloria is at the live desk with this story. good morning. >> it is video that the lapd took years to release. it's a patrol car recording of two officers playing the online game. pokemon go instead of responding to a call about a robbery in progress at a macy's in crenshaw. now on the recording, you can hear the officer is just after driving away discussing how to catch the pokemon character snorlax ignore during the robbery call. even though according to court records, they were only 200 yards away from the store. the officers were fired, but sued to get reinstated. their case going all the way to california appeals court. this is everything.

across the board. and some spots like santa rosa were 12 degrees below average today. a far cry from that heat we had for much of last week. and we'll keep that string of cool october days through about thursday. here's a live doppler seven along with satellite. this area of low pressure in the pacific northwest is dragging a cold front through the west coast. it's approaching northern california. a lot of this moisture when we have early season cold fronts, it falls apart. by the time it reaches the bay area. but in the north bay, there could be a light, isolated sprinkle later on this morning into the early afternoon. a lot of cloud cover from the exploratorium camera. it's just a mostly cloudy day. it's a cool october day between about 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. we'll keep that chance of a light shower, mainly in the north bay outside of the north bay. we'll be pretty dry. and temperatures in the 60s and lower 70s for the most part by 4 p.m. take a look at the three day forecast. we'll still keep a chance of a lingering shower for tuesday in the north bay with another cold

that killed more than 2000 people. over a thousand others are injured. this happened saturday, about 25 miles west of herat city, the third largest in afghanistan. officials say more than 1300 houses were totally or partially destroyed. rescue teams are there providing thousands more with food, water and medical attention. here in the bay area, a total of three different earthquakes shook northern california in the past day. the first was a preliminary 3.0 magnitude quake, which hit around 830 yesterday morning,

four miles west of cobb in lake county. a 4.0 magnitude earthquake was detected six hours later, five miles west of cobb and then a third quake struck a few minutes after that, this time in sonoma county. it measured 3.8 near the geysers. this all according to the us geologic survey there. they also said there were no reports of damage happening. >> happening today, the bigger, the better. the world championship pumpkin weigh-off kicking off in half moon bay this morning. abc seven news reporter lena howland there and the competition is already getting ready to roll in. >> hey, that's right, the competition is starting to roll in right now. we have a few previous champions and a few hopeful champions coming in right now preparing for that. we have to start at 7:00, but right now we are joined by ron root. he's actually here from citrus heights and he won this way off back in 2010. he's been growing for about 20 years. ron tell us a little bit about the pumpkin

you brought with us this year. >> well, this pumpkins named polka. why do i keep saying pocahontas this pohaku, which means the stone or a rock in hawaiian name. and we've been growing this pumpkin since may 3rd. it was in the ground and pollinated it on july 1st. and and we picked it on friday. and it's estimating. around 2,300 pounds, right around 2,300 pounds. >> and from what i remember, that's right around where our state record lands right now. >> with the art of massive pumpkin growing here, what goes into making a pumpkin grow to be this large? >> first place is the seed. it's an atlantic giant seed. so you have to have that. then you have to have your soil perfectly balanced. all the nutrients in it are balanced out. and then you need to put in a lot of hard

neck of the woods later today, a lot of that moisture is going to fall apart. but here's future weather, 10 a.m, cloverdale, ukiah, likely finding a light shower. we're dealing with a lot of cloud cover outside of the north bay and then that front fizzles out as we head into the early afternoon. perhaps an isolated shower at best in the north bay. but for a lot of us, we're dry today. it's mostly cloudy and those temperatures below average for this time of the year. take that light jacket with you this morning and some areas you'll probably keep it on all day. some of us are stuck in the 60s for daytime. highs are more mild locations from the inland east bay to the south bay. we'll go into the low and mid 70s later on this afternoon. then overnight tonight, we hang on to all of that cloud cover and temperatures dip back into the 50s. here's the active weather, 70 forecast, a chance of a shower in the north bay today. we'll keep a lingering chance in the north bay tomorrow with another cold front. but then by wednesday and thursday, brighter skies, warm. our weather moves in, temperatures at or just slightly above average through friday in the weekend, mix of sun and clouds and temperatures very fall-like for this time of the year. hi,
