>> from abc news in new york, this is america this morning. >> good tuesday morning, everyone. i'm andrew dymburt. i'm andrea fujii in for rhiannon. >> we begin with israel at war and growing concern for more than 100 hostages being held by hamas militants. >> israel has called up hundreds of thousands of military reservists, vowing to be at war for as long as it takes. the israeli government has ordered a siege of gaza, bombarding hamas military sites, reportedly hitting more than 1000 targets. it said today that gaza's parliament would be a legitimate target. >> at least 900 israelis have been killed since the surprise attack by hamas over the weekend. nearly 700 palestinians have died. that number does not include about 1500 bodies of a hamas militants reportedly found inside israel. >> and now the conflict appears on the verge of entering a new phase this morning. an israeli ground invasion of gaza appears imminent as the new war in the middle east rages for a fourth day there gearing up and they

are preparing to execute their missions. israel now calling up a record 300,000 military reservists to respond to saturday's surprise attack by hamas. a spokesperson for israeli forces tells abc's matt gutman the next phase includes stripping hamas of its military capabilities. >> it sounds like to fight them, you have to get boots on the ground in gaza, which will create casualties on the israeli side, we are definitely looking at the difficult and hard tasks ahead of us. >> the entire world is watching . and if hamas is able to get away with murdering 900 israelis and to see the light of another day, that isn't the message that we can afford. >> an estimated 1000 hamas militants crossed the border into israel, killing hundreds of people, including at least 11 americans. disturbing new video shows the deadly ambush of a driver fleeing a music festival under attack. other videos show hamas militants taking an unknown number of people hostage

and driving them back to gaza. the strip of land controlled by hamas is home to more than 2 million. palestinian is one of the most densely populated areas on the planet. hamas spokesperson is now warning the group will kill one hostage for every israeli airstrike on a civilian target in gaza after destroying hundreds of buildings . israel has sealed gaza off from food, fuel and other supplies. >> every single thing we eat or drink or consume in terms of medicines or food or drink is strictly controlled by the israeli military. we have no control over that. so as a result of their stringent control of gaza, life has has has become literally unbearable. jason shawa, a palestinian living in gaza, says they have nowhere to go. it is totally walled off by israel. >> in israel, long lines are forming at grocery stores amid concern about shortages and people living in fear. as hamas continues to hit israeli cities

way you're going to keep this war from escalating is to hold iran accountable. >> the white house says there is no direct evidence tying iran to saturday's attack. meanwhile, the administration is warning about another militant group, hezbollah, which controls southern lebanon along israel's northern border. a senior us defense official tells abc news . we are deeply concerned about hezbollah making the wrong decision and choosing to open a second front to this conflict. the attack has threatened to undermine president biden's foreign policy goals, derailing his efforts to broker a deal to normalize relations between israel and saudi arabia. experts say disrupting that deal was one goal of the hamas attack. a palestinian activist sitting down with abc's linsey davis discussing a possible path forward. >> i've always said if israel doesn't want two state solution, does not want us to be free and
