>> then a car drives right into the consulate in san francisco. the chinese consulate people ran for safety before police shot and killed the driver and is san francisco ready for the next big conference city leaders hoping to roll out the red carpet for world leaders. good morning to you. welcome to tuesday, october 10th. >> yes, we're going to start with traffic this morning. glory. there's a lot going on. >> yeah, unfortunately, there is a lot going on this morning. we have a couple crashes that we've been following all morning long. so let's get a live look right now outside. this is our richmond-san rafael bridge camera. and you can see this is what's going on right now, at least the two right lanes are closed. and this after a deadly crash at westbound 580 at the toll plaza heading towards marin county. we're told that one person died and at 10 p.m, a big rig crashed into the tollbooth and caught on fire. and we have some footage from when this happened at 10:00 last night.

and initially, all of the lanes were closed. but again, now it's just the two right lanes that are still blocked. we don't have an estimated time for reopening . and if you need an alternate route, you can go to highway 37 or you can take the bay bridge as well. so we'll continue to follow this for you throughout the morning. drew >> hey, gloria, we are tracking some dense fog along the coast. half moon bay is the problems bought this morning coming in less than a mile. visibility. we also have coastal drizzle and some drizzle across the city. it's also a warmer morning compared to yesterday day and a bit more humid. we're tracking another cold front that will bring another chance of showers to the north bay. cloudy start to the day with pockets of drizzle a bit brighter. midday but that front moves through here this afternoon and that is when we have that chance of a shower in the north bay outside of the north bay. most of us stay dry in temperatures very similar to yesterday in the 60s and 70. reggie >> thank you, drew. developing news in the middle east. president biden will deliver remarks today addressing the war

between israel and hamas. that speech is expected to start at ten this morning, our time. at least 11 americans are among the nearly 1600 people killed. and israel has launched an aggressive counter offensive attack, bombarding gaza and hitting more than 1000 military targets. the israeli defense minister calls it a total siege, cutting off all gas, electricity and power to gaza. hamas has threatened to begin executing hostages if israel continues to shell areas where residents live. at least 900 have been killed in israel and the death toll in gaza is nearing 700. palestinians the secretary general of the un issued this plea for an end to the war. >> i recognize the legitimate grievances of the palestinian people, but nothing can justify these acts of terror and the killing, maiming and abduction of civilians. i reiterate my call to immediately cease these attacks and release all hostages

. >> countless families are terrified with people trapped or missing in the conflict. and gloria, we're hearing from families who are desperate to reunite with them. >> we are, reggie. and, you know, as the war between israel and hamas intensified lies the fate of up to 150 israeli hostages hangs in the balance. an israeli mother is pleading for the return of her sons who are just 12 and 16 years old. she describes the last phone call with her boys, which came just as militants were kidnaping them from a safe room. >> him and my youngest, it was only 12, saying to them, don't take me. i'm too young. and that was it. the line cut off. that was the last time i heard from them. what my children back home . i want them to fight each other. i want them to know each other. i want them to get on my nerves again. i want them back. i want them to be back sleeping in their beds. >> in an interview with abc news

white house spokesperson john kirby says the administration has not been able to confirm if americans are among the hostages and that the us has remained in constant touch with israeli officials. kumasi. >> thank you, gloria. the big three us airlines have canceled all flights in and out of tel aviv's ben gurion airport today. delta said it will be at least november before it plans to resume flights to israel, which gives an idea of how long it expects this conflict to run. you nine and american have canceled flights through the end of the week. united is the only airline that has a non stop between san francisco and tel aviv. of course, that flight is on hiatus. el al israel's national carrier, continues to operate flights and has even capped its fares. travelers making their way to the us are sharing their experience through worst experience of my life >> i was in florentin and i heard the rockets go off and my

crisis and uncertainty, the support is more vital than ever . a calling on community members to come together today to support to express their unwavering support. they're also asking people attending to wear white and carry both israeli and american flags in solid charity against terrorism. we talked to an israeli american who says she was supposed to fly to israel with her daughters on sunday, but says her airlines canceled their flight from sfo to tel aviv and she knows people that are stranded there. israelis had their phones and all electronics shut off in celebration of the jewish holiday when the attacks started. it's like like we are not there. >> we are here. and we hear all the sad news and all the scariness from our friends and family. in the past, i used to say i'm proud. i'm israeli now. i'm kind of scared to say free palestine. >> on the other side of things, there was also a rally held in

making its presence known in northern california will press on in just a little bit closer. and there you can see that rain already moving into eureka redding right now. this front has even less moisture than the one yesterday, but it will bring a light shower to parts of the north bay later on this afternoon. this morning, there's a lot of cloud cover. we'll see brighter conditions midday, but then those clouds fill back in as that front approaches. and later on this afternoon when we're back on air for abc7 news at 4:00 pm, we'll track those showers in the north bay. even through 6 p.m. it's still possible, but then it's done. this front is out of here and it

16 of them to the hospital yesterday. a grip man on board a san francisco cable car activated the emergency brakes. the car was headed down washington street near taylor when witnesses say a black prius turned on the tracks right in front of the streetcar. the grip man hit the cable car, emergency brake and that jolted the 14 people on board. it avoided the collision, but some of the people lost their footing and fell. >> the guy, the operator, he actually pulled on like a special brake and everybody went forward like it was a horrible sound. i actually thought we hit the car. witnesses tell investigators the prius involved just drove off. >> fortunately, we're told all the injuries and mostly minor. for the first time, we're hearing from the san francisco street vendor whose hot dog cart was pushed by a city worker. one carlos ramirez spoke with abc seven news reporter louis pena.

he says he doesn't even remember seeing the public works employee running toward him. but video of the incident went viral after community organizers demanded the city intervene. >> yeah, and i'm pulling my cart and i feel like somebody pushed it. yeah, i will. >> i turned around and all my food was on the ground over the weekend. >> hundreds of people surprised juan carlos by buying and two by buying 250 hot dogs from him and his family. >> the video was awful. so we decided to plan a buy out for him because pretty much when he pushed his car, it's like he pushed everything he had because that's how he pays the bills. um, that's how he puts food on the table for his kids. that's how he pays rent one. >> carlos says he is thankful for all the community support. he hopes to get a permit soon to start a food business. the public works department has

is humid, and we are tracking another round of showers likely in the north bay. good morning, san jose. here's a live look under those mostly cloudy conditions, pockets of drizzle to be found along the coast and even across the city this morning. and dense fog is occurring right now along the coast. the north bay will likely see another round of some light showers today. and then behind this next front, we turn brighter and warmer tomorrow. and on thursday, looking at rainfall estimates with this next front, very minimal. it's not a substantial rainmaker by any means, but we will see some showers mainly in the north bay and likely along the coast as we head into the afternoon today as that cold front moves through. so highs today will go into the mid 60s and the mid 70s. cloud here in the north bay a bit brighter in the south bay, the south bay remains dry today. we'll watch that front move through here between about 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. and that's the best chance of finding those light showers in the north bay overnight tonight. that front clears us. it's going to bring the cloud cover away from the region. so we clear out those skies. it gets chilly in some areas, some of our coldest spots will drop into the 40s heading

amber alerts have been around for decades. and since that time , more than 370 children and at risk individuals have been found. some critics say the notification system often overlooks black children. state senator steven bradford is behind a new law that creates ebony alerts for a community. a disproportionate impacted by missing youth for african americans, whether they're children or young adults, are often listed as runaways. >> and african american young individuals make up almost 40% of those individuals who come up missing. >> black youth considered at risk or with mental or physical challenges will qualify for this . ebony alerts can also use technology like roadside signs

and electronic notifications. governor newsom has signed off on a plan to make over to san francisco. piers piers, 30 and 32 will be renovated. add state senator scott wiener's legislation calls for repairs and mixed use development at those piers. some of the amenities will include pedestrian promenades, a floating swimming pool and a market hall. the golden state warriors have agreed to play to pay for some of those costs. happening today, the port of san francisco commission is going to meet to consider whether to move the golden gate park ferris wheel to an area near fisherman's wharf. supporters of the idea want the ferris wheel to be operational by by the time apec summit kicks off, and that's november 11th. so obviously that is a tight timeline, but they say it is possible to move the 150 foot sky star wheel in time next to 630, a semi up and the presidential race to long shots make big announcements about their campaigns and be prepared to see more of those

charles chuck feeney passed away in san francisco yesterday. feeney's foundation says he was the catalyst for major buildings devoted to finding cures for cancer and cardiovascular disease, enhancing global health and women's and children's health. a ucsf's mission bay campus as the foundation made grants totaling $8 billion, much of it made anonymously how generous. feeney was 92. >> a wall street journal reporter has lost an appeal in russian court and is now stuck in jail. evan zukowski gakosso gershkovich was arrested in march on espionage charges. his
