more on that part of it. >> good morning, kumasi. if you've logged on to any social media platform over the past few days, you've probably been bombarded with posts and messages about the conflict in the middle east. experts say since the war broke out several days ago, the amount of hate and vitriol being spread online has exploded. jewish community high school of the bay in san francisco sent out an email to students, parents urging them to protect their children from some of the harsh realities of war. if you have a child in this situation, university psychology artist thomas plante recommends talking to them very broad strokes and say, do you have question about that? >> you know, what do you want to know about this? and to try your best to try to give that message that you're willing to talk to your children in a developmentally appropriate way, plant says while hatred online can impact anyone, those with connections to israel and gaza are at particular risk.

>> according to the jewish telegraph agency, several schools around both the us and israel are urging parents to limit their children's use of social media during this time. among other things, they say that they worry about threats coming from hamas, that they would live stream the execution in of hostages. hamas oh, so scary. >> thank you, gloria. we continue to see widespread rallies and demonstrations across the nation, including right here in the bay area. locally, pro-israel supporters rallied in walnut creek at civic park yesterday. pro-israel neighbors also came together in san jose for an evening of prayer in san jose, community members and leaders gather for songs and prayers at the synagogue chabad of almaden. >> one rabbi said the meeting was powerful. >> what did we do at every challenge that came our way. came together like we're doing here now. tonight san jose

to its stonestown galleria location. an express is the latest store to exit the hard-hit shopping district. it will be closing on october 22nd. >> plans for a ferris wheel to move into fisherman's wharf are now in the works. the san francisco port commissioners are considering a proposal to move it across the city. it is now sitting in golden gate park. abc7 news reporter lena howland is live this morning. and lena, they're trying to get this all done in a really short period of time. >> yeah, that's right. reggie and some officials believe a ferris wheel is exactly what fisherman's wharf needs to bring people back as this area is still recovering from the pandemic. now, the san francisco port commissioners have adopted a revitalization plan that could move the ferris wheel in golden gate park to appear here in fisherman's wharf. the plan still needs a couple more approvals, but it could become reality within the next month. the ferris wheel has been in golden gate park for the last three years in the shadows of the academy of sciences and the

de young museum. but moving it to the wharf would put it front and center or high and towering the bay. san francisco board of supervisors president aaron peskin says it's never really felt like the ferris wheel ever belonged in golden gate park, saying the plan to move it will soon go in front of a state agency, tsay, for approval. >> it's a good fit. it's the right place. it kind of has that coney island feel. and i think folks will embrace it. and it'll be an attraction that will help fisherman's wharf during this recovery period. if it moves forward. >> peskin says this is only a short term plan for just six months. the city is also still in the midst of testing to make sure the ferris wheel isn't too heavy for the pier. now the goal is to have the ferris wheel here to the wharf in just one month, and that is just in time for the apec economic forum. live in san francisco, lena howland, abc seven news. >> lena, thank you. >> let's take a look at the 24

hour temperature change and you can see it is a lot cooler this morning, especially in the north bay compared to this time yesterday. so we have clear skies, bit of a chill in some spots, but later today, it's a bright day. it's a five, an looking fall forecast when it comes to our temperatures. but the winds will be an issue. the reason why live doppler seven along with satellite, we had a cold front move through here over the last 12 hours. we had a little bit of moisture from it in the north bay across the city and along the coast yesterday evening. and the wake of that front, it's kicking up our winds this morning and they will increase as the day goes on with the strongest winds expected along the coast. so later on this afternoon, this is 3 p.m, you can see coast side. we're seeing winds in excess of 30mph. and in the evening, we'll see those winds and a lot of areas gusting 20 to 30mph. but they will calm down as we head into the early morning hours of thursday. but you can see sutro tower. it is shaking this morning with that wind picking up. so it's a bright looking forecast. but the winds will be an issue throughout the

armstrong mishandled misconduct charges against a police officer. last month, an independent report cleared armstrong of any wrongdoing. armstrong released a statement saying, quote, i believe that the mayor should rehire me as chief of police based upon the clear evidence that i acted properly and did not violate any department policies. >> it should be a no brainer for the mayor and the police commission. and we hope that they do the right thing and right. a past wrong and put him back where he belongs as chief of police. the mayor's office declined to comment on the list of candidates. >> there are six other people on the short list. more names could be added since candidates can still submit it until the end of this week. >> there's a new campaign to crack down on human trafficking in the east bay. it comes in the form of billboards at the oakland international airport. alameda county's largest transport center. according to the district attorney's office, alameda county is now the third largest hub for human trafficking in the country. the billboards display resources for

victims who are being trafficked through the airport and want to escape it. >> but we're not doing enough. we're not getting to the problem. it is $1 billion industry and our efforts have to step up to that. >> oakland mayor shengtao will also launch a new human trafficking advisory council next wednesday. the city of san francisco is suing the owners of three different single room occupancy hotels in chinatown. the city attorney says the landlords neglected the properties and created safety and health hazards for tenants. we spoke with one tenant who has a subsidy and pays $300 a month. she said there's an ongoing rat and roach problem and the ceiling leaks when it rains. >> we are bringing this lawsuit to ensure that these owners are held accountable. >> abc7 news reached out to the three landlords named we heard from one of them. they say they require the property in june and that they've worked to clear the

ten violations. he also told us the violation does belong to the previous owner. >> san jose's mayor is proposing an incentive offer to companies to come and stay in the city. mayor matt mehan and council member david cohen just revealed a new memorandum. the incentives would include things like energy discounts, tax rebates and faster permitting and planning. >> since before for the launch of the internet, san jose has been a place for entrepreneurs, engineers, designers and inventors to come together, often in a tiny garage or windowless basement and change the world. >> so this is a place where we want to continue to cultivate the next great technical things technology and ai is that next great technology. we the next step is to present the memo to the city council. >> bayer has launched a state of the art facility in berkeley designed to increase what's known as cell therapy. the company opened the facility at its berkeley biotech campus yesterday. bayer has invested

and jordan. scalise is technically next in line for the job and has been readying his career for this moment. jordan is the chairman of the house judiciary committee and leads the impeachment inquiry into president joe biden. at least for now. representative matt gaetz, the man that led the charge to oust kevin mccarthy, seems ready to go easier on the next speaker. >> i'm very confident that both of these men would represent an upgrade over speaker mccarthy. so i'm not concerned that the things that really imperiled his speakership would would be bad, carried by either a speaker jordan or a speaker. scalise >> then comes the hard part of the process. whoever becomes the nominee still has to win a majority on the house floor. so there are questions on whether or not either candidate can unite the conference and gain that majority vote. house republicans keep facing pressure to unite behind a candidate so the house can provide aid to israel and prevent a possible government shutdown. reggie

>> thank you, gloria. the first person convicted of murder for selling fentanyl in california has just received his sentence. 22 year old nathaniel cabacungan pleaded guilty to second degree murder after giving 15 year old jules wolf a deadly dose of fentanyl last summer. her mother delivered a victim impact statement to a judge yesterday in roseville. >> i'll usually always make everything better, but i couldn't this time. i couldn't save her. and to know that somebody just left her that could have potentially saved her, i feel i failed her. as a mother. cabochon has been sentenced to 15 years in prison before being eligible for parole. >> this is the first murder conviction for a fentanyl dealer in state history. attorney general rob bonta was there for the sentencing. >> if you are pedal thing fentanyl and you have conscious disregard for the life of another, you can be charged and

charged and convicted for murder. jules family hopes this is the first of many that deliver justice for victims of fentanyl. >> there's a new crackdown on attacks on postal workers. the department of justice northern california division just announced ten people have been arrested and charged with crimes relating to attacks on postal workers or even stealing mail. one of the suspects faces attempted murder charges. officials say robbery is are looking to steal money. credit cards and other valuables in the mail. they attack postal workers to get the keys that then open larger mail containers. prosecutors say many of the people arrested carried a set letter. >> carriers don't wake up in the morning wondering if someone's going to stick a gun in their face so they are being hunted. and these criminals need to be held accountable. >> the us postal service, the us postal inspection service, says it's trying to catch other offenders. it just raised the reward for reporting mail crimes

from 50,000 to $150,000, plans for a ferris wheel to move into fisherman's wharf are now in the works. >> the san francisco port commissioners are considering a proposal to move it across the city from golden gate park. some leaders want to get it done in time for next month's apec conference. abc7 news reporter lena howland has reaction now to that plan. hi lena. >> hey, reggie. well, this plan still has a couple more approvals to happen, including one from state officials. this could all become a reality within just one month. now take a look at this. the ferris wheel has been in golden gate park for the last three years. in the shadows of the academy of sciences and the deyoung museum. but moving it to the wharf would put it front and center or high, towering the bay in the wharf. you don't have to go far to find empty storefronts. so some city officials believe this will bring people back as it still recovering from the pandemic. here's what some folks in the area had to say. >> i haven't seen much change
