oakland citizens who are making safety in their neighborhood. a top priority by taking matters into their own hands. abc7 news starts now. >> building a better bay area moving forward, finding solutions. this is abc7 news. >> after more than a week of brutal deadly air attacks, a final warning delivered by air for residents to get out of gaza for their own safety. thank you for joining us at five. i'm j.r. stone as the violence continues to escalate, the humanitarian crisis in the middle east is growing. the us is now appointing a special envoy who will focus on ensuring that life saving assistance can reach vulnerable people throughout the region. the death toll on both sides of the war continues to climb. nearly 4000 killed in attacks by israel's military, three and hamas. that includes 30 us citizens, according to the state department, 13 americans remain unaccounted for. here is

ines de la cuetara with the latest from jerusalem. >> israel continues preparing for an imminent invasion of the gaza strip. the idf says plans are set for a coordinated attack by air, sea and land and we will strike hamas from the top through its institutions all the way down to the individuals that conducted the butchery of our babies. >> we did not ask for this war, but we will win it. israel has been dropping leaflets over gaza urging people to move south for their own safety. >> we have asked gaza and civilians in northern gaza to evacuate to the south. >> so that they are out of an area that is going to be an active combat zone. >> israel launching retaliated three airstrikes into gaza, more than a week ago following the brutal attack by hamas. israeli officials say at least 1300 have been killed in israel. others taken hostage their families now pleading for their return. >> my aunt suffers from parkinson's disease. she's 63.

every day without her medication is torture. she's being tortured . in gaza, more than 9000 injured since the conflict began and more than 2600 killed, according to the palestinian health ministry. >> 35,000 people now sheltering at gaza's main hospital. the institution of the hospital today is the best proof. >> the refugees filled the corridors. >> president biden's standing firmly behind israel, but expressing concern over the growing humanitarian crisis in gaza. can't lose sight of the fact that the overwhelming majority of palestinians had nothing to do with hamas. >> secretary of state antony blinken returns to israel on monday after meeting with leaders throughout the middle east. >> one of his main objectives to prevent the conflict from spreading this is a difficult and a challenging time, but there's a determination that i've heard across the board to work through it, to get through it, and to do that together.

meanwhile, a bipartisan congressional delegation led by senator chuck schumer met with israeli leaders on sunday. at one point, they were rushed to a shelter to wait out a hamas rocket attack. inés de la cuetara, abc news, jerusalem. >> for a second day in a row, a pro-palestinian rally in our area drew a massive crowd. today's demonstration took place near santana row in san jose. hundreds came out to march and then prayed. the palestinian groups are alarmed with israel's military escalation in gaza and worried about the fate of relatives there. >> why are we out here? because we want to put a halt to israeli bombardment of gaza. there's there are two paths we can take. we can either bomb gaza and just flatten the strip, kill thousands of people, mostly civilian, or we can have a two state solution. >> a pro-palestinian protest in san francisco yesterday drew a crowd of thousands. hundreds

also came out to support the people of israel for a rally in san francisco and on the peninsula. stanford students tied ribbons to combat some hate messages on the conflict. abc7 news reporter cornell bernard has more. we stand with israel. >> we stand with israel. >> several hundred people rallying at san francisco's civic center to show their support for israel in the midst of the conflict. we want our children back. this group condemning the actions of hamas, pleading for the safe return of kidnaped families and children. >> what's going to happen to this kid? he's four years old. four years old. how is he going to hold on in hamas captivity? >> i don't know. >> we need to bring our people home. >> we stand with israel. >> it's not about us, right? even if you are pro-palestinian, you should stand with us. >> i was actually on the united flight on friday night a week ago. that was redirected back to san francisco.

>> ginny roth attends college in tel aviv, where her grandparents live. >> they spent the past week in bomb shelters. my grandfather is actually in the hospital right now. they're is just i mean, elderly people are suffering immensely because of this. >> jewish students and israeli students on campus have been really struggling for the last week. >> hillel at stanford, rabbi jessica kirshner says it's why students type dozens of blue ribbons around campus on sunday. she says it's a response to anti-israeli messages written in chalk and banners across campus this week when there was silence at the beginning from the highest levels of the university. >> the noise that filled it was really frightening and alienating. and so i think our students are trying to put out a different message. >> cornell bernard, abc7 news, thanks so much, cornell. >> efforts continue to get ten sonoma county residents out of israel and safely back to the bay area yesterday. abc seven news spoke with one of them who's in tel aviv today. tesla.

to gun violence, says the county needs to do more to keep the community safe. >> the focus of the da's department is not to just set aside the families that have lost their loved ones. you have to work with these families in order to make a difference and to help other families. they're not going to court and letting due process have its way. we're they're stepping in and doing plea deals and not, you know, informing the parents of what's going on. and that's unfair. >> safe has until march 5th to gather more than 70,000 signatures to get the recall on the ballot next year. we asked price about the recall effort last week. she said she was elected by the people of alameda county and is going to do what she was appointed to do. a group of west oakland residents are taking their community safety into their own hands. they came together for a we keep us safe day. as part of their effort to address concerns about violence. the group gathered to discuss community efforts to promote safety. they also cleaned up a

shows caitlin armstrong trying to scale a seven foot fence to break free from custody. according to an affidavit, armstrong put in a medical request restricting the use of leg restraints. she then filed an injury complaint to get herself a doctor's appointment outside of the prison office. officers say as they escorted armstrong from the doctor's office to the car. she then made a run for it, trying to scale the fence. an officer pulled her down and she tried to run again. they say armstrong went about a mile while stripping off her prisoner uniform and even free to hand from her cuffs before finally being caught. >> this affidavit is all about mrs. armstrong's attempt to escape authorities and to go somewhere else. she was clearly intentional about trying to get away from authorities. >> armstrong is accused of murdering a professional cyclist who armstrong believed was

romance involved with her boyfriend. authorities say armstrong appears to have been planning to break out of jail for a while. they've combed through video which they say shows that she had been exercising vigorously for months ahead of the escape attempt. today, members of and friends, that is of glide, the spiritual haven have extra reason to rejoice at sunday's service, the church announced its new ceo, dr. gina fromer, brings more than four decades of experience leading organizations. she relied on help with glide in the late 1980s as a young mother. dr. fromer's was recently ceo of the children's council of san francisco. there she oversaw a $236 million budget. governor gavin newsom signed two new laws, new bills that is into law over the weekend. the first bill cracks down on hotel junk fees. it requires hotels and resorts to disclose all additional fees

associated with the room rates. the effort is to crack down on surprise hotel charges that can oftentimes be misleading to consumers. the second sign, bill, will require each grade level to teach media literacy in schools. newsom says the law will help educate students on responsible behavior related to current technology and social media. sad news to report tonight from the entertainment world. actress suzanne somers has died. somers is best known for her roles on the tv series three's company and step by step, she was also the main spokesperson for the thighmaster . she was born in san bruno. her publicist says she passed away peacefully this morning after fighting breast cancer for more than 23 years. tomorrow would have been her 77th birthday of. we'll have more news when we come back

the bay bridge this morning. got a soaking and you see that right here. but there was no rain involved. a sprinkler malfunction had water pouring down onto vehicles for a short time on the san francisco to oakland span of the bridge. it led to the brief closure of two lanes just so caltrans could turn off the water. you know my car right now spencer christian could use a soaking like that. it's a lot easier to go through something like that than to go to the actual car wash. >> you may have to wait for some rain, though. yes. >> any rain in the forecast? >> well, maybe a little bit of a drizzle tomorrow in the north bay. it looks like that might be it for rain tomorrow, but we've got some warm weather in the forecast, though. here's a look at what's happening right now on live doppler seven. low clouds and fog are returning to the coastline. so the marine layer is rebuilding and we have a few high clouds moving inland to our

north. we have also a fairly moderate breeze, a sea breeze. wind speeds up to about 16, 18mph in and around san francisco. but relatively calm elsewhere. now the big news is the 24 hour temperature change. it has warmed up significantly, nine degrees warmer right now in novato and santa rosa and concord than at this time yesterday. up to about 5 or 6 degrees warmer in most other locations under mainly clear skies. we also have a beach hazard statement in effect through late tonight. wave heights are elevated and this will expire later tonight. but there's still the risk of sneaker waves for our south facing beaches and increased risk of dangerous rip currents. here's a view of blue sky over san francisco, but a few little fingers of fog reaching out over the bay. it's currently 50 to 67 degrees here in the city, i should say. low 70s at mountain view in oakland, 80 degrees at san jose, 76 at palo alto, 59 at half moon bay. now at the golden gate, we've got lots of clouds right now. other temperature readings at this hour are 77, up north at santa rosa. novato 7980

at napa. and low to mid 80s at fairfield, concord and livermore. and this is the view at santa cruz beach, which is still rather active under mild conditions. and these are our forecast headlines. clouds will increase overnight some morning sprinkles are likely or possible in the north bay. they may even continue into the early afternoon minor cooling tomorrow with lingering clouds and we can expect much warmer weather tuesday through friday. here's our forecast animation showing the return of low clouds to the coast and some high clouds overnight as well. and then tomorrow, maybe a sprinkle or two in the north bay and then the clouds start to thin out tomorrow night, giving way to a sunnier pattern starting on tuesday. overnight, low temperatures will be mainly in the mid 50s and then highs tomorrow, 66 at half moon bay, low to mid 70s around the bay shoreline mainly mid to upper 70s inland. although the outlier will be fairfield with an expected high of 82, it'll start to warm up again on on tuesday rather thursday. wednesday thursday, even warmer with inland highs in the low to mid
