confirm a presidential trip, but secretary of state antony blinken, after a seven-hour marathon meeting with israel's prime minister overnight, made the announcement. >> on wednesday, president biden will visit israel. >> reporter: the intent, said blinken, a show of support. >> the president will reaffirm the united states solidarity with israel and our iron clad commitment to its security. >> reporter: the president's visit coming just ten days after hamas slaughtered more than 1,400 israeli civilians and soldiers. with missiles launched by hamas from gaza still a constant threat here in israel, a threat seen first-hand by secretary blinken during his meetings in tel aviv. air raid sirens sending the american press corps traveling with him scrambling for shelter in a stairwell. blinken and prime minister netanyahu briefly retreating to a bunker. while the threat to israel remains high, secretary blinken

also focusing on the fight of millions of palestinian civilians in gaza trapped, running out of food and water. >> at our request, the united states and israel have agreed to develop a plan that will enable humanitarian aid from donor nations and multilateral organizations to reach civilians in gaza, and them alone. >> reporter: a complex task, with israel now poised to begin a ground assault against hamas, and fears that iran and hezbollah in lebanon could enter the conflict. >> any actor, state or nonstate, trying to take advantage of this crisis to attack israel, don't. >> reporter: to underscore that message, a show of force. 2000 u.s. troops now on alert for possible deployment to the middle east to provide intelligence and medical support if needed. and a second u.s. aircraft carrier and its war ships now set to join a carrier strike group already in the

mediterranean. a senior u.s. official telling me that intelligence has tracked activities in iran that are worrisome, which is exactly why they added a military deterrent. robin? >> all right, martha, thank you very much. george hamas releasing video of one of the nearly 200 hostages it is holding in gaza as israeli forces prepare for invasion. our chief foreign correspondent ian pannell is in southern israel for us. good morning, ian. >> reporter: yeah, good morning, robin. we are in southern israel down near the gaza border. we can't disclose the entire location. but we are seeing enormous numbers of military. tens and tens of thousands as they prepare for this land operation. as you say, now astonishing new details about what's happening with those hostages. this morning for the first time, video of one of the 199 hostages taken into gaza. hamas, the militant group behind the brazen attack on october 7th releasing video of 21-year-old

french israeli citizen mia shem. her family giving us permission to show these. she was kidnapped from the music festival. i just asked if you will bring me home as soon as possible to my family. to my parent, my brothers. please get us out of here as soon as possible. overnight her family speaking out. >> i saw my baby on television. i saw she's alive. i didn't know if she was dead or alive until yesterday. all i knew is that she might be kidnapped and begging the world to bring my baby back home. >> reporter: the international red cross saying they met face to face with hamas leaders, pushing for release of the hostages and for access to check on their condition. according to israeli hostages, and missing families forum, many kidnapped are in need of medical treatment. the report alleging a

9-month-old baby has no access to formula. three children with autism require special assistance. and an 85-year-old woman suffering from kidney disease and asthma requiring medication. overnight a spokes person for hamas claiming they'll release hostages of different nationalities when the means of doing so are available on the ground but it is unclear what that means. many of the nearly 200 hostages, which include american, are believed to be held somewhere in miles of under ground tunnels, dug by hamas. amid escalating clashes along the israeli/lebanon border and fears the war could expand, the idea of releasing this video that shows them striking hezbollah targets and military facilities in lebanon. and this morning growing concerns in gaza, as israeli defense forces prepare for a land incursion. strikes hitting gaza again overnight including in the south where the israeli military has urged palestinians to flee for

their safety. residents there seen digging through the rubble, desperate to find survivors of the bombing. israeli officials saying they're determined to wipe out hamas in their retaliation for last week's bloody assault in israel. the death toll rising, as officials find more bodies from the attack, with more than 1,400 killed in israel, according to the health ministry. across the border in gaza, the palestinian health authority saying more than 2,700 have been killed there in the latest strikes. half the total population of gaza has been told to leave their home. chaos and confusion at the border with egypt as it remains closed, despite promises it might open for foreign national, including americans. according to the u.n., no food, fuel and little water or any kind of aid has entered gaza in over a week. humanitarian trucks lining up outside the egyptian side of the border. aid workers say thousands could starve unless food is allowed in. the u.n. also urging israel not

to target hospitals in gaza, which are already short of supplies. >> we were told the machines are no longer working because the water pressure now has dropped to the point where they can't function. >> reporter: so conditions inside gaza are deteriorating. the mood in israel is absolutely determined. there are growing concerns about what's happening near lebanon. there are concerns about what hezbollah, backed by iran, could do. there are concerns about what iran itself may do. we've seen secretary of state blinken conducting shuttle diplomacy over the last few day, trying to bring arab allies on board. there's real concern throughout the middle east about what israel is doing right now and the conditions inside gaza and concerns that this could spread. michael? >> all right, ian. thank you very much for that. like you said, lot of concern in the region. and now to washington and the planned vote today on a new house speaker. ohio republican jim jordan appears to be gaining ground in his bid, but he has a lot more

ground to cover. our senior congressional correspondent rachel scott is on capitol hill with more. good morning, rachel. >> reporter: michael, good morning to you. the battle over speaker heads to the floor for a vote. congressman jim jordan is certainly in for a fight. he has been able to win over some of the hold outs but is still far short of the votes me heeds. this morning congressman jim jordan is still scrambling to lock in the votes. there's still at least four republicans who say they will not support you. how do you get them on board? >> we're talking to everyone, listening to everyone. again, i feel good about how things are moving. >> reporter: jordan can only afford to lose support of four republicans. right now at least ten have signaled they won't back him. >> some of us will not just be walked over on this. we've been walked on since january. >> that's where i'm at. i have no reason to change that. so that's where i'm at. >> reporter: jordan is one of the republicans leading the impeachment inquiry into

president biden, a staunch ally of former president donald trump who has pushed false claims about the 2020 election. that's a problem for ken buck of colorado. >> jim, at some point, if he's going to lead this conference, is going to have to be strong and say donald trump didn't win the election. >> reporter: other republicans say they've had enough with the party infighting. >> this has got house of cards stuff written all over it. we need to get a speaker elected. but it's not as if we have to do it right now. it has to be the right person. >> reporter: the house has been without a speaker for two weeks. first kevin mccarthy was ousted, then steve scalise was nominated, but dropped out. now jordan is up for the job. >> this is less about jim jordan and more about getting government back to work. >> reporter: with such a razor thin majority, members are bracing for a drawn out fight. realistically, are you preparing for this to go a few rounds? >> we got to get a speaker. >> reporter: house democrats joined eight republicans to oust

kevin mccarthy, but had made it clear they have no interest in supporting jim jordan. there's real concern on both sides of the aisle that the house has been without a speaker for far too long, george. >> sure has. thanks. the latest on donald trump's trial for trying to overturn the 2020 election. the judge imposed a partial gag order on the former president after a series of comments from trump. senior investigative reporter aaron katersky is tracking the case. good morning, aaron. >> reporter: george, good morning to you. donald trump may be an outspoken presidential candidate, but as the judge said, he's also a criminal defendant who cannot say or do exactly as he pleases. this morning former president trump is under a narrow gag order, prevented from saying or posting disparaging things about special counsel jack smith, court staff or the witnesses in his federal election interference case. the judge saying trump's language presents a danger to the administration of justice. the judge saying she cannot imagine any other criminal case in which the defendant is permitted to call the prosecutor deranged.

the special counsel wanted similar restrictions on trump's comments about the justice department and president biden, but the judge refused. trump is also permitted to keep claiming his prosecution is political an unfair though he cannot launch what the judge called a pretrial smear campaign. >> they put a gag order on me. i'm not supposed to be talking about things that bad people do and so we'll be appealing very quickly. >> reporter: the defense argued the biden administration is seeking to censor a political candidate in the middle of a political campaign. but the judge shot back, you keep talking about censorship like the defendant has unfettered first amendment rights. he doesn't. if trump violates the gag order the judge could impose sanctions. anything from a reprimand to fine, to holding him in contempt. trump said he's willing to go to jail if that's what it takes to win. this is the second time this month the judge has imposed a partial gag order because of things trump's said.

civil fraud trial here in new york, he's also limited in what he can say after, robin, he disparaged the judge's clerk on social media. robin? >> all right, aaron. thank you for your reporting. now to the autoworkers strike, with losses climbing into the billions for the big three automaker, the executive chair of ford is calling for the uaw to reach an agreement. alex perez joins us with the latest. good morning. >> reporter: hey, good morning, robin. the strike is now in its fifth week and tensions between the union autoworkers and the automakers shows no point of easing at this point. no signs of easing at this point. now the uaw is escalating what it calls its targeted strike against the big three automakers, putting an additional squeeze on ford, having 9,000 employees walk off the job at ford's lucrative kentucky truck plant last week. in rare public comments, bill ford called on the union to reach an agreement and unite to counter the growth of foreign automakers.

but the union fired back saying if ford wants to be the all-american auto company, they can pay all-american wages and benefits. the autoworkers are seeking a 40% pay raise. union representation at new electric battery plants. increased benefits and more. losses from the on going strike are estimated to have now reached a $7.7 billion cost. about 34,000 union autoworkers are on strike at more than 40 facilities across the country. michael? >> hopefully, they can reach an agreement soon, alex. thank you very much for that. now to a nail biter on "monday night football." the dallas cowboys with a close win over the los angeles chargers. our will reeve is here now with the highlights. good morning, will. >> hey there, michael. good morning. a "monday night football" game in los angeles is going to draw a glitzy crowd. not taylor swift. but how about jay-z, lance bass. lebron james.

day the way we do every day. >> reporter: popular mom influencer ruby franke, known for her tough love approach to parenting. >> keeping them home from school and wiping the floor boards, really would bring pain. >> reporter: now set to face a utah judge over the custody of four of her six children as she faces felony charges of child abuse. >> stay on that corner. >> reporter: and this morning exclusive body cam footage obtained by abc news showing the moments police swarmed franke's utah home the day of her arrest on august 30th. >> police department! >> reporter: guns drawn as police scour room to room in franke's home for more of her children after one of them escaped from a house of her business partner nearly four hours away. >> i just had a 12-year-old boy show up at my front door asking for help. he's emaciated. he's got tape around his legs. he's hungry an he's thirsty. >> reporter: according to court document, authorities arrived to the ivans' home to find ruby's 10-year-old daughter described as emaciated.

more exclusive body cam confirming the where abouts of the two middle children. a different police agency finding them miles away and turning them over to the state. this as estranged husband kevin franke, who's been separated from his wife since july 2022, fights for custody of their four minor children, all currently in the care of the state. some of the alleged claims of neglect reported on this 911 call made by their oldest daughter 20-year-old sherry franke back in september 2022. >> hi. my name is shari franke. my four younger siblings are living in springville. my neighbors have been telling me they have been left home alone for about four or five days. >> reporter: records indicating police responded to the franke home more than a dozen times in the last few years, as early as 2018. a wellness check in 2022. authorities arresting ruby and her business partner in connection, jodi hildebrandt. they each face six counts of felony child abuse, each charge

carrying a penalty of 15 years in prison. >> the criminal side could have a lot of influence on the family case. these are charges related to child abuse, child neglect. when family judges are looking to determine where kids should have custody, where they should live, those types of charges can heavily affect that determination. >> reporter: now we reached out to attorneys for both ruby and kevin franke about their custody battle but have not heard back. legal experts say the two adult franke children could apply for custody themselves. ruby franke an her business partner and co-defendant were denied bail and are in jail as the case unfolds. guys. >> juju, thanks. airlines are battling for your loyalty as the holiday travel season approaches. trevor ault is here with the story. >> reporter: there's been a lot of focus on airline rewards and status program, which ones are worth chasing and when you should simply go for the best

deal. this morning southwest airlines is making a play for more travellers loyalty just as that holiday season approaches. as americans begin racing to book their holiday travel this morning a major airline announcing new perks to try to win your loyalty. southwest airlines is making it easier to earn higher status with better access to up grades, lowering the number of flights required to become an a-list status member, offering things like free drinks to top elite members. >> they are really bucking the trend that we see with other airlines, which is making it harder, so you need to spepb more money to achieve this level of status. >> reporter: that includes delta airlines. the ceo saying the company probably went too far with recent changes, making it more difficult to earn status and access their lounges. delta's now vowing to revisit those changes, but it's not clear what they'll modify. >> i have received a lot of feedback from this stage. there will be modifications that we will make.

john, thanks for joining us. spell out the president's mission as he heads to the middle east. >> really two things are on his mind. first is making sure he gets an update from our israeli counter parts about their plan, intention, how things are going on the ground, and make sure he conveys a message of support for their israeli defense forces and ability to prosecute these operations against hamas. and number two, it's really on the humanitarian front. he'll be hitting that not only hard while he's in israel, but when he goes to jordan and speaks to the president of egypt, president abbas of the palestinian authority and king abdullah, all focused on making sure humanitarian assistance can flow in and people who want to leave can get out. obviously, he's going to be focused on the hostage situation, particularly those few american hostages that we know are being held by hamas. >> this is a hot zone. how concerned president's safety? >> there's always a concern whenever the president travel force safety, of course.

this will be no different. i'm sure the concerns will be appropriately addressed through the necessary protection and personnel protection measures. obviously, we won't go into details about that. >> you say the president wants to show support for israel. does the mission also include urging israel to restrain themselves, notes go on a full scale ground invasion of gaza. >> we're not getting into dictating operational terms to the israelis. they have every right to defend themselves and prosecute hamas. that said, george, since almost the very beginning we have been talking about how important it is for diplomacies like israel and the united states to stand up for the law of war, to respect innocent civilian life. unlike hamas. this is a foundational element of the discussions we've had with the israelis forever and we will continue doing that going forward. >> would the united states like to see the hostages released before any ground invasion starts? >> we would like to see the hostages released right now. hamas should let everybody go.

we're working hard to secure their release. honestly, it's as soon as possible is the time frame that we are focused on. >> what is the end game looking like? assume israel takes some kind of operation inside gaza. is gaza governable the day after? >> that i think is a question that hasn't been answered yet. that's a fair question. it's one we're obviously talking to our israelis counter parts about. what happens the day after? what does gaza look like? they're still working their way through some of that. we are going to have those conversations with them immediately, right now in the near term is making sure they can continue to precisely target and go after hamas. >> united states pledged additional military aid to israel. how critical is it that congress passes it right away? and should it be tied to ukraine aid? >> it's vital that we get this supplemental funding, george. we've got enough appropriations for ukraine and israel to get us in the near term but a lot determines on munitions. we're concerned about that.

about our bra that make it easier to put on. how important is it to prioritize patents and defensibility in the world of e-commerce compared to building a strong brand? >> you know, patent is a good question. it seems like such an important thing to do. but in reality, when you are startup, it's more important to take that $25,000, $50,000 you would have spent on patents and put it to your product. when your customers are happy, particularly for a product like this, they'll tell other customers and your business will grow. you have a year from the time you started to do a patent anyway. see how your business is going to run, then worry about the patents. >> focus on the product. >> focus on the product and customer. that will always get you further. >> olivia posted this question about competition. >> okay. >> she asked, quote, i have recently launched an online shop specializing in custom apparel but i often find myself justifying the pricing to my customers. how can i effectively compete

>> all right, meryl, we are going to start with fresh pasta. all it takes is three ingredients. >> flour, semilone flour and egg. you are going to combine them together. knead it super vigorously, about ten minutes. >> ten minutes. >> you got to work for your pasta. >> get your arms ready. >> it will be smooth and firm. cover it, let it rest for 30 minutes at room temperature and roll it through our machine and make our pappardelle. do you want to help? i'm going to line it up here. >> look at that. >> perfect. i like to do something semithin for pappardelle. i want it to hold up to a nice sauce. now we are going to cut our pappardelle. best tip, let your pasta sheets dry out before you cut it. nothing clumps up together. >> let's do it.

all of the strands are going to fall down. it's fine. perfect. >> we also have pappardelle. we also have cavatelli. >> we used the machine for this. but no machine for this. no egg. just semolina flour and water. cut our rope into tiny pieces and roll them across this gnocci board to give it texture. at home you don't need to use a gnocci board. you can use zester, back of a fork. yep yep yep. you got it. keep going. until it curls over. gorgeous. >> good job, michael. >> i'm a natural. what kind of pasta sauce? >> both are versatile. you can do meat. both of them. i love pappardelle in the winter because you do a rich hearty meat sauce.
