weather day out there. let's get to abc seven news meteorologist angie patel tracking everything we should know in our 24 hour accuweather forecast. sandhya. yeah and j.r. will be baking in the heat tomorrow and there's going to be no exceptions. let's take a look at the high temperatures for today. there was one record 86 set sfo. many areas in the 80s and 90s. tomorrow we're going to see a lot more records around here. a heat advisory is in place until 11 p.m. tomorrow and it's virtually most of the bay area other than a few spots near the coast. highs in the upper 80s to near 100 well above average. if you're particularly sensitive to the heat or you have a higher risk of getting sick. so keep that in mind as we look at the next 24 hours, tomorrow morning will be the mildest point. and then you will notice those temperatures quickly soaring into the 80s by lunchtime, some 70s coast as we head into the early afternoon. those numbers are in the 80s and 90s for many parts of the bay area, so it's even hotter than today. okay. and then in the evening,

temperatures begin to come down. there are some major changes coming our way as we approach the weekend and head into the weekend. i'll be back with those details coming right up. j.r. >> sandhya, thanks so much. let's move now to the rapidly developing situation in the middle east as president biden prepares for a thursday night prime time address to the nation, he's expected to lay out america's role in the war against hamas. here at home, governor gavin newsom says he is now doubling the amount of funding for security around places of worship. in california . earlier today, the fbi put out a statement saying it has increased reports of threats against jewish, muslim and arab communities and institutions. it comes as demonstrations continue around the world. retrieval of san students at several schools in berkeley and san francisco held walkouts today. more than 100 students from galileo high school took to the streets

calling for a cease fire. emotions were high for some students as you just need to be human to feel what these people that are getting killed. the explosion this week at a gaza hospital killing hundreds of palestinians prompted several protests to erupt in the middle east. tonight, abc news reporter melissa adan has the latest. >> unrest growing in the middle east over concerns that israel's war against hamas could spark a wider conflict? demonstrations turning violent outside the us embassy in beirut, lebanon. abc's mola lenghi taking cover amid the chaos. as you can see, protesters pushing back against security forces starting by throwing rocks, launching fireworks. >> it's been a constant push and pull here between security forces and the protesters who were trying to push up against the american embassy. they say they are outraged at israel's bombardment of palestinian citizens, and the us support for

it. >> tensions skyrocketing following the explosion at a gaza hospital that killed hundreds of palestinian civilians. israel adamant they were not responsible. the us says intelligence backs that up, citing intel sources in its preliminary assessment. but for some, no amount of evidence will change their opinion. president biden says the evidence he's been shown so far indicates it was an errant rocket by a terrorist group in gaza. >> i come to israel with a single message. you're not alone . >> president biden showing solidarity and meeting with israel. leaders saying the goal of his visit was to get as many americans out as possible and get humanitarian aid into gaza. biden says egypt's president has agreed to open the rafah crossing gate to allow up to 20 trucks with aid through is expected to arrive friday. meantime, a warning that the war is increasing the chances of violence domestically. new intelligence bulletin says potential targets include individuals and institutions

and as abc7 news reporter ryan curry found not everyone is in agreement. >> the streets of chinatown are usually crowded with residents and tourists, but now there is confusion about what this district will look like when the apec summit comes in november. we're throwing a party in chinatown and we need people to come. >> and the way people come is by working with the city and mta to get them there. the conference, which will take place at the moscone center, will have heavy security by sfpd, chp. >> the military and secret service. it's because almost two dozen world leaders will be in attendance, including president biden, for extra security measures. sfmta is making major traffic adjustments, the yerba buena station and fourth and brandon stations of the central subway will need to be closed for the duration of the event, something people in chinatown worry will limit tourism. >> i think we're a little disappointed. you know, frankly, with the lack of thought around how to connect chinatown, you

thing. but, you know, we got to come together as a city to make it happen. >> in san francisco, ryan curry, abc seven news and as all that happens, governor newsom is going to china next week in a high profile trip. >> he's visited china several times over the years, especially while he was a city official and mayor of san francisco. it's unclear whether there are plans for him to meet with chinese president xi jinping. the governor's office says he will focus on climate issues and advancing cultural, technological and economic collaborate action between california and china. he's also part of the welcoming committee for apec, so he will likely promote the event for his hometown. >> let's move to the east bay and a new plan aiming to cut down on crime. oakland will be installing hundreds of license plate readers around the city. the oakland city council unanimously approved the plan last night. governor gavin newsom set aside funds for them after mayor shengtao asked for state help with crime. we asked her about it on our midday live show today and she said the

readers will be used to monitor real time crime and for evidence later in prosecution, they do more than just read license plate. >> these cameras are high definition cameras that can really get the details of the vehicle that the suspect is in so that we can get our airplane up and going so that we can follow and track the suspect in the same interview with us, mayor tao also said she will not be rehiring former police chief lauren armstrong. >> that's despite him being one of six finalists for the position. he was fired after an investigation found he mishandled two misconduct cases. he has since been cleared of any wrongdoing. >> did you feel it? an earthquake shook parts of the bay area, but tonight, some are questioning the alerts that went out to our phones. the 4.2 magnitude quake hit just before 930 this morning, centered in the delta, a little northeast of antioch. but users across the bay area got a myshake app alert saying a 5.7 magnitude was

today as they began a lawsuit against snapchat that we are here today because snapchat is an accomplice in the death of our children and we're suing them for negligence. they're there on behalf of 65 teenage victims who died after receiving counterfeit pills from dealers through the app, rather than seeing seeking monetary damages, the suit seeks to change the design and policies of the platform. it is too late for our families, but today we're here to do the uncomfortable work to keep this from happening to others. the company has already filed a motion to dismiss the complaint, pointing to precautions it has taken to

prevent illegal activity on the app. snapchat says they're working to proactively find and remove dealers. is working alongside law enforcement and shutting down accounts. >> data shows american households will be spending more this holiday season. according to moody's analytics, households will spend $235 a month more than what they spent last year. however the ceo of walmart, john furner, says he wants families spending to be focused on time with each other. >> people are looking forward to getting back together and spending time with the ones they love and i'm excited about this holiday season to bring people together when there are so many things that try to try to keep us separated. >> large retail stores have already started offering holiday discounts such as discounted thanksgiving grocery baskets, but experts predict people will spend an average of more than $1,600 on holiday related purchases. that's more than what was spent during the 2019 holidays prior to the pandemic. netflix is raising its prices again by $3 a month while
