>> chris: he's got a strong faith. we visited with him in the bus before the game. tremendous positive outlook. he was so excited. he's an understated guy, but to be part of this energy tonight, and got to feel it, as well as see it. >> kirk: special night. never been to a game here. really appreciate him stopping by the bus and having a chance to spend some time with him. his perspective on life just blows you away, what he's faced and what he continues to face. >> chris: we talked about resilience and grit and determination qualities that mike norvell strongly believes this football team has and it wasn't pretty. they found themselves down double digits twice. but they prevailed. >> kirk: they did. you move to 7-0, and we just talked about the remaining schedule. now it comes, how do you handle the pats on the back and how do you, oh, you're going to kill
8:01 pm
that team, you're going to kill that team. that becomes the next phase of trying to make this a magical season all the way to the finish line. it's tough to do. >> chris: handoff to coleman. breaks free near midfield. noles will hit the road for the next two, and perhaps take part in ball games where they have to bring their own energy, sort of meet their own standard. wake forest and pittsburgh are the next two games. we talked about the game november 11th at home against miami. >> kirk: look how heavily favored they are expected to be. you never know what's going to happen in the miami/fsu game, and going to gainesville, right? >> chris: right now, there's a whole bunch of undefeated teams, still two in the big ten, you've got oklahoma, of course, which survived today. washington's undefeated. so it is not a guarantee that all of these power five undefeated teams will get playoff spots. it could be an odd team out. long way to go. >> kirk: let's just real quick
8:02 pm
say that they win out and let's say ohio state, michigan winner is undefeated, then you have, let's say georgia wins out, and then you have, let's say washington's going to win out, say texas/oklahoma winner, i mean, that's -- somebody's going to be left out. committee's going to have fun with that if that ends up happening. that is complete chaos. >> chris: fsu would have a couple of wins against s.e.c. teams, if, in fact, they are sitting there undefeated. >> kirk: that lsu game could be huge for them. the willingness to play it, nonconference. >> chris: first down run by coleman. chick-fil-a bringing you this week's college football rankings. actually, this is as if the contenders go undefeated, excuse me. big ten, 100% chance. oklahoma, 100% -- >> kirk: who is this -- allstate -- >> chris: not mine, no. mine? i don't do this. >> kirk: didn't -- you're an
8:03 pm
analytics guy. i thought maybe you threw this together. florida state -- >> chris: nothing to do with it. >> kirk: noles fans, i have nothing to do with that 43%. that lsu win, to me, just keep that in your back pocket. keep that in your back pocket. >> chris: now we'll show you the chick-fil-a rankings, and lundy is down on one knee. ohio state making the big statement win at home against penn state with that defense. washington/asu, late start in tempe, just getting under way. it's in seattle, my bad. >> kirk: oregon, texas all with potential scares, but all able to survive. florida state early with a challenge. i mean -- we always talk about, what if this team's undefeated? and then we get to the end of the year and it always seems to work itself out, right? >> chris: lundy being helped off. it would be interesting if in the final year of the four-team
8:04 pm
playoff bracket there are more than four undefeated teams. there certainly appear to be a good chance of more than four worthy contenders. talking about teams with one loss potentially, have strong resumes nonetheless. long way to go, but the noles can only do what they can do and their schedule, and this is a resounding fourth quarter against a team that came in ranked 16th. >> kirk: i just think -- i know there are different differentiators, i just think that playing a heavyweight in a nonconference should -- should be a trump card, should really help your case. >> chris: there were few heavyweight match-ups in the nonconference schedule. >> kirk: encourages more to do that in the future. that's what you need in the nonconference. >> chris: we're sitting there with a lot of undefeated teams as we approach late october, not
8:05 pm
a lot of teams challenging themselves in the nonconference. that will do it. 22-0, head to head against duke. but it took a 21-point fourth quarter for norvell. >> kirk: chris, one last thing about mike norvell, there are a lot of people, after his first year or two, that weren't really sure. i'm talking florida state fans, they weren't really sure. there was talk about maybe coach prime being the answer, and the job that he's done, last year getting to ten wins, after those three losses in the middle of the season, they win six in a row. build some momentum into this year. got a quarterback, goes to the portal, now he's got a team that really, the culture, i think, is sustainable. it's not a jordan travis leaves, they're going to slide back down, this is -- this is a program that's going to be hanging around for awhile with mike norvell as coach. >> chris: totally agree. they've played and won five acc
8:06 pm
games. haven't been to the acc chip game, kirk, since 2014. forget that, it's been a long time, so, they're almost assured of that, but they're thinking much bigger than just reaching charlo charlotte. >> kirk: i thought north carolina was speaking around on that back burner, no one talking about them, no one thinking about them, and then they lose tonight to virginia. >> chris: jordan travis, 268 passing and a couple of touchdowns. ran for a touchdown. along with 62 yards. riley leonard tried, when he left, his team was up, but after he couldn't go anymore, couldn't convince his coach he could go, florida state just took over from there, that 96-yard touchdown march really began to turn the tide. they added a couple more touchdowns late, and win it by 18. >> kirk: i think jaheim bell is just telling him, hey, really
8:07 pm
respect you, appreciate what you did tonight. that's a nice gesture there by 6. >> chris: duke's defense was as advertised really for the first three quarters. but florida state, with the ways they can attack. they began to unleash. travis as a runner the last quarter and a half, hadn't done much before that. let's hear from jordan now with holly. >> holly: well, jordan, we've talked about how good this duke defense is. how hard was this win tonight? you guys had to really grind it out. >> yeah, it was hard-fought. thankful for the man upstairs, thankful for the fans, making it easier for us. the offensive line came up big at the end of the game. we knew we were going to have to chip away. that's a really good football team. that's a great football team. defense plays really hard. but we stepped up when we needed to and came out with the win. >> holly: where did you feel like you finally started to get momentum to change that score? >> honestly, just chipping away. doing what we do.
8:08 pm
like i said, we knew it was going to be a hard-fought game. it was going to break at some point. i mean, that one drive, the big long drive was probably the biggest drive of the game, and then we got deuce that stepped up big. deuce, i'm so proud of him, that's a guy that keeps his head in there all the time. doesn't always have the opportunities on the offensive side of the ball, but when he gets in, he makes the most of them. defense came up big today, so, i'm very thankful. >> holly: you made your way all the way across to say hello to somebody who were you chatting with? >> riley leonard. i met him at the manning passing academy. just a great person. he's a great player, a great person. i'm so thankful i met him there and we're able to keep that relationship. i'm praying for him to get healthy. >> holly: thank you, jordan. >> thank you. >> chris: man, respect and empathy for opponents, you heard the credit for his teammates. a lot of faith in himself, a lot of faith, period. jordan travis -- there's one right there. >> kirk: oh, my gosh. last week, we had michael penix
8:09 pm
down there talking to holly when we were in seattle and we were both watching the interviews, saying, man, how great is the sport? guys like this, and then again, jordan travis, just, what a class act and great representation of the sport. played well, turned the game around in the second half. and we all want to say to riley leonard, everything you went through in that notre dame game, we were fearful that you were done for the year and hope you were going to be okay. the fact you gave it an effort tonight to play, tremendous. >> chris: duke football continues to make strides. had the lead here against florida state. jordan travis and the noles roar back with a 21-point fourth quarter to get the win streak to 13. and they are the only undefeated team left in the acc after carolina's loss tonight. homecoming in tallahassee. hope you enjoyed it. bi we appreciate our entire crew to help bring you these nice
