but for how much longer? a look ahead to a new week of gop maneuvering to find a new house speaker. abc7 news at six starts now. >> building a better bay area moving forward, finding solutions. this is abc7 news. >> a live look now at the conditions over the san francisco bay. you see the bay bridge right there. gray skies all day. the result of a new storm that has brought rain to many areas. good evening and thanks for joining us. i'm j.r. stone. a cold front continues to bring us some rain. here is a live look at conditions outside across the region. spencer christian is here tracking the latest. okay. >> yeah, we still have the gray skies over much of the bay area, but the rainfall is getting lighter and lighter. so here's a look at what's happening. this is what produced the rainfall for us. as you see on the satellite radar, composite image, a little storm spinning around up in northern california with waves or bands of light rain sweeping through the bay area. as you can see right now

on live doppler seven. and most of the activity has moved to our east at the moment. still, though, we have a bit of a storm. it ranks level one on the exclusive abc seven storm impact scale. so for the evening and nighttime hours, more light scattered showers, less than five hundredths of an inch of additional rain likely to fall. but here's the forecast animation starting at 630, notice between 630 and about 9 or 10 p.m, it looks like it's just about over. however right around midnight or just after midnight, we could see a couple of stray showers, very light swinging through the south bay. and that will give way to partial clearing. so how many sunny days will follow? i'll have that in my accuweather forecast coming up a little bit later. j.r. spencer, thank you so much. >> look forward to that. now to the latest on the war in the middle east. at least 14 humanitarian relief trucks sponsored by the united nations have entered the gaza strip from egypt through the rafah crossing . an official in gaza confirmed the goods are being taken to storage facilities for palestinian refugees. the israel

defense force says about 500 rockets fired by hamas and the palestinian islamic jihad in the last two days have misfired, landing inside gaza and killing civilians. meanwhile, the pentagon is sending an aircraft carrier and air defense systems to defend us troops amid a growing number of attacks on us facilities. abc's josh einiger has more from tel aviv. >> it's a sobering reminder of the stakes for israelis. a wall covered with faces of the young and the old innocent civilian held in captivity somewhere in gaza. >> we must bring back these these guys. we did nothing. nothing they were just kidnap from their homes all day, every day. >> israelis stand vigil here. the location specifically chosen to send a clear message because this isn't just any wall. it's plastered almost end to end with pictures of israeli hostages.

these are people who are believed to be still alive and in captivity in gaza. and they are here on this wall because on the other side of this wall is the ministry of defense. this is basically israel's pentagon. all the decision makers about this war have to pass all these pictures on their way to and from their offices and the families of the hostages are hoping that gives them some pause as they figure out what the next step is in this war. >> as a citizen like i'm surprised we haven't had a ground invasion yet, but it's a very complicated situation. you know, as soon as we start a ground invasion like the fate of these kidnaped civil organs is very unclear. >> no ground invasion yet, but this weekend, israel did continue its relentless campaign of airstrikes against hamas and the body count among palestinians continued to rise as the humanitarian crisis deepened. another convoy of aid trucks inching toward the need from egypt. and as if this crisis hadn't claimed enough lives, the region today watched

and waited to see israel's next move. if they do invade on the ground, it surely would lead to widespread casualties on both sides. >> i think you'll see a fight that's characterized by a lot of ieds, a lot of booby traps and just really grinding activity going forward. >> there may not yet be a formal ground invasion, but israel has been conducting what it calls local raids in the gaza strip, one of which today ended in the death of an idf soldier. in fact, israel's already lost more than 300 troops killed in action since the war began. just two weeks ago. josh einiger, abc news, tel aviv. >> and here in the bay area, an opportunity for a family friendly rally. children of all ages gathering in oakland this afternoon, sending a message of peace to the middle east. tara campbell reports. >> it's a message of peace being painted onto the streets of oakland as the israeli-hamas war

enters its third week. >> this is an event where we're bringing together bay area families and children to stand up for the children in gaza who right now are being bombed and don't have food and water. >> sarah noor helped organize the event. >> the values that i was raised with as a jewish family are that we stand up for social justice and we stand up for human rights, for all people. >> they're going to be starting a mural if it stops raining, leading some chants and songs for children and really helping kids understand the situation in palestine, and especially gaza right now. >> we just felt it was important to come out and show solidarity for the palestinian people here with her daughter, ten year old sissy. >> but she wanted to come and support at an event that was specifically for kids. >> i think it's really sad how many kids are getting killed. >> sissy's parents proud of their daughter for taking a stand. i think it shows her that there is strength in numbers, that there's power in our in a collective. and from the beat of

plan to build a new city is sending out a new survey this week. starting tomorrow, california forever ceo jan sramek will send a letter to residents along with a survey asking questions about a long term project that could be considered. things like parks and solar farms. but there are lingering concerns about the project. abc7 news anchor stephanie sierra spoke with fairfield's mayor about her worries. >> let's start with this latest survey. what's your take on it? >> it's been very, very negative toward flannery. very um, if i could just for a minute this this lady wrote no body wants a new city. the last three attempts have failed with good reason. nobody wants you here. so we like the open space. go away. >> the survey covers a lot. as you pointed out, the first portion asking about different things. the new community could

create a big one. major improvements with infrastructure like highway 12. and we've talked a lot about this logistically, how do you see that happening? >> highway 1212 will take billions, not just one, to be widened and we know that yawn who's the ceo of flannery, expects our current taxpayer years to pay a big portion of that and that they would. and when i say they, i mean california forever or flannery i call them would pay quote their fair share it is unbelievable that they would think that we should pay for infrastructure to build their city if we could afford to widen highway 12, it would have been done already. but neither the federal government nor the state government has come up with those funds. so i think, again, it's pie in the sky. >> let's talk about water for our viewers. it's important to note you serve as the director

on the board of the solano county water agency in order to get the water needed. jan sramek will need to get the green light from neighboring cities, as you pointed out. do you know of any sitting mayor that would be willing to do that? >> no, i. i can tell you right now that there are zero mayors in in solano county who are willing to sell or give up some of their water rights. >> that was stephanie sierra reporting. we're told three new district offices are coming soon to solano county cities, including fairfield and vallejo, so residents can stop by and ask questions about the project. but the company's ceo says he wants the public to be part of this process, including naming the city. well, still ahead, a tribute to an oakland icon. the event in the east bay honoring a group of revolutionary gis, including the man who started it all. and the bay area is dealing with some late october rain. abc7 weather anchor spencer christian is up next with your

right now with surface wind speeds generally between 15 and 20mph. no powerful gusts and it's cooler than at this time yesterday by about 1 to 4 degrees in most burial locations . so let's take a live view right now from the exploratorium camera looking at clouds over the bay and over the bay bridge. current temperature readings are 62 degrees here in san francisco , mid 60s ■at oakland mountain view, san jose, 67 and lower 60s at palo alto and half moon bay at the golden gate. skies are getting a little bit brighter. it was quite cloudy there last hour, but now we see the clouds thinning out a bit. the pavement though, does still look a little bit damp. so there may have been some recent showers, 62 degrees in santa rosa right now. petaluma 59. and we have low to mid 60s at napa. fairfield concord and livermore on we go to the view from our rooftop camera across the looking across the embarcadero. and these are our forecast headlines. we'll see a few more scattered showers this evening. showers are likely to end overnight. clouds though, will linger into the early morning hours and we can expect sunnier, drier weather beginning

tomorrow afternoon. the current storm, such as it is, ranks level one on the exclusive abc seven storm impact scale. so through tonight look for more light scattered showers. it's possible there could be a brief downpour here and there, but generally we're talking about very light rainfall with less than 500 of an inch of additional rainfall likely. here's the forecast animation starting at 630. notice between now and about, oh, 10:00 tonight, we'll see the system pretty much moving out of the bay area. but just around midnight or a little bit after midnight, there could be a couple of stray showers moving through the north bay, south bay, rather. that's just about it. we start to get clearing in the morning hours. rainfall estimates between now and midnight or maybe one two hundredths of an inch overnight. low temperatures mainly in the mid to upper 50s highs tomorrow, low 60s at the coast, low to mid 70s around the bay shoreline. upper 70s to near 80 inland. and here's the accuweather seven day forecast tuesday. not much change from tomorrow then on wednesday and thursday and friday for that matter, if three

they play a lot of them. they're a national brand. and earlier this week i asked the players how special it is to still feel to still play under the monday night lights monday night football. >> man, you always get up for those type of games, man. it's a fun environment. it's only one game. nothing else is going on this monday. that's the worst day of the week for everybody, right? so why not watch some football, man? so obviously it's always a big deal, man. and we get we obviously get up whether we plan on sunday at 1:00 or monday. it just happened to be we get to go on prime time again and show what we can do. >> anytime you play under the lights, everybody watching monday night eating their dinner, got the tv on watching us. it's going to be fun. >> it's always nice on monday nights. you get that one extra day of rest, which which is huge in a season you wouldn't believe. like what a difference a single day will make, even just having a night game. there's that little extra eight hours for your mindset and for your body just to recover. >> know when the lights are on. it's really fun. it's really easy to get, you know, your switch flipped and it's usually pretty easy for me anyways. but going back to the midwest, it's
