robbery is the relative of accused of taking fatima. the woman's eight year old son was also with her police say it's possible that they are staying at a hotel in the tenderloin where they were all last seen. anyone with information is asked to call san francisco police. >> a new overnight the city of richmond has become the first city in the nation to adopt a resolution condemning israel, accusing it of ethnic cleansing in gaza during its war with hamas. the city council heard hours of public comment during last night's meeting. the majority of speakers applauded the resolution in support of the palestinian people impacted in gaza. some people opposed to the resolution claim that it is anti-semitic. the resolution before us is a resolution calling to basic humanity, basic humanity in the name of innocent and helpless. >> it is a resolution of heroes. >> this resolution is divisive. it is inflammatory free. it is one sided. it is factually incorrect. there are many, many

ways that i would love to sit down with you and explain to you the language that is being used and why it's and why it's inaccurate. >> in the end, the resolution passed in a 5 to 1 vote before the meeting even got started. the jewish community and many others voiced strong opposition. the chair of the contra costa county board of supervisors, john gioia, wrote a letter to richmond city council. it says in part, the resolution fails to condemn the terrorist hamas killing of innocent israeli men, women and children, which unfortunately started this recent brutal warfare. i believe it's important at times like these to bring our community together rather than create divisiveness. the passage of any resolution regarding regardless of attempts to amend it, will only contribute to the divisiveness. now to details about the talks underway to free more hostages being held by hamas in gaza amid ricans are among them jobina negotiations are being described as intense. yes, right. >> so according to abc news sources, these negotiations to

release more hostages are going on between the us, israel, egypt and qatar. this comes as conditions grow more desperate inside gaza. the world health organization says at least six gaza hospitals have been forced to close due to a lack of supplies, including fuel. israel says hamas has fuel stockpiles but is refusing to distribute them. this morning we're learning a us ship shot down missiles and drones shot by rebels in yemen over the red sea last week. the pentagon also revealing there have been 13 attacks on us military bases in iraq and syria in the last week. an iranian backed militant group claims more us bases in the middle east will also be targeted as a result of the israel-hamas war. if iran or its proxies attack us personnel anywhere. >> make no mistake, we will defend our people. we will defend our security swiftly and decisively as the war appears to

intensify. >> the us is still asking israel to delay a ground invasion into gaza. the white house is rejecting calls for a cease fire, but us officials have suggested a humanity driven pause. reggie jobina, thank you. >> this morning there's a major roadblock for self-driving car company cruise. the dmv has suspended the company's permits to operate fully autonomous cars in san francisco. abc7 news reporter lena howland is in the city with what this means for the industry moving forward. lena reggie, we're coming to you live just outside of cruise headquarters where all morning long we have been seeing these cruise cars coming and going. >> the only difference today is that they each have a driver behind the wheel. that's the only way they are allowed to operate. right now in san francisco until the company can make a number of changes that the dmv is calling for. now, the dmv says these driverless cars are not safe for the public. the public's operation. and they say the manufacture has

misrepresented information related to safety of the autonomous technology of its cars. we have seen several times where cruise cars stall on the street and block both traffic and first responders. earlier this month, a woman was trapped underneath a cruise av after being hit by another car. san francisco supervisor aaron peskin says cruise needs to be more transparent when it comes to sharing data for these companies. >> know when their cars are breaking. these companies know when their cars are doing, you know, charging a pedestrian or going through an intersection with a red light. they need to make all of that data transparent. and if they do that, we can actually see whether or not their software is evolving and becoming safer. we also checked in with san francisco mayor london breed shortly after the news of this suspension came out, came out, she says she wants to see cruise operate in san francisco, but she wants to see it done safely. >> in a statement from cruise,

living inside the secured area, especially those who rely on paratransit. the city urges anyone with questions or concerns to call three one, one or to access the apec website. city leaders are calling on san francisco mayor london breed to make payments to businesses that could potentially be hurt by apec. the board of supervisors voted yesterday in support of a resolution that would help cover portions of losses by businesses and impacted by the conference. the chronicle is reporting this move would happen to the $10 million set aside in the city's public fund for logistical costs , as local businesses are expecting a big financial loss because of the tight security measures around moscone center, licensed street vendors in san francisco's mission district are reportedly pushing back on a temporary vending ban that is slated to start next month. >> vendors and city officials held a meeting yesterday to discuss the params of this 90 day ban. our media partner, the sf, the sf standard, reports the ban would be in place along mission street between cesar

worth of puppets and show gear after it was stolen in san francisco's marina district creator and director hamid rahmanian says the gear was inside a u-haul in the parking lot of the comfort inn on van ness. when he came out monday morning, it was all gone, he says. roughly three years of production materials got stolen from that truck. >> i'm not from here. i'm from new york. and we thought, okay, we are in the affluent

neighborhood in marina. i thought, my car is in the parking lot of the hotel. what could go wrong. >> rahmanian told abc7. he hopes the thieves have a change of heart and return his production equipment. menlo park based meta is preparing to release its third quarter earnings today just one day after dozens of states joined to sue the company . they're alleging facebook and instagram enable features that are harmful to young people's mental health. >> we know that meta knows that instagram is addicting. it even used that word internally. addicting metas conduct act is deceptive. it's dangerous. and as we make clear in our lawsuit, it is illegal. >> the federal lawsuit filed in oakland accuses meta officials, including ceo mark zuckerberg, of publicly lying about the addictive nature of the platforms, saying they lower young people's self-esteem. the suit also accuses meta of violating federal law by routinely collecting data on

police just put a big dent in a retail theft ring targeting lululemon stores. several suspects were arrested just ahead of the busy holiday shopping season. here's how it happened. last week, suspects tied to thefts in the north bay showed up at the walnut creek store. they were trying to return 3 to $4000 in stolen merchandise to get cash or gift cards. well, employees managed to stall them while officers moved in. ultimately arresting two people inside the store and then two other people waiting in the car two days after that for thieves stormed that same store. >> they go in, they grab as much

yesterday and new court documents are outlining what he told police happened on the flight. abc7 news reporter gloria rodriguez with the details coming out in court. gloria, good morning. >> kumasi officials say had emerson pulled the handles all the way down, the plane would have turned into a glider within seconds. 83 people were aboard the alaska airlines flight operate by horizon air. 44 year old alaska airlines pilot joseph emerson pleaded not guilty to attempted murder charges. he's accused of trying to shut off the engines during a flight to san francisco. video shows emerson being removed from the plane, which took off from everett, washington, on sunday. emerson was off duty, sitting in the cockpit at jumpseat when authorities say that he stood up, said, i'm not okay and tried to pull the plane's t handles. the federal criminal complaint says a pilot then grabbed emerson's wrist and wrestled

with emerson for a few seconds for control of the aircraft before the emerson stopped. emerson reportedly asked one of the flight attendants to cuff him, one of the passengers on board, saying the flight had a different feel for the next thing that happened that i that i knew that something was wrong was the flight attendant got on the speakerphone phone and said that they were going to be diverting to portland because they were experiencing an issue. >> and the flight attendant's voice was kind of shaking. so definitely seemed like something was wrong. >> court documents show emerson told investigators he had not slept in 40 hours and felt he was having a nervous breakdown and mentioned using psychedelic mushrooms. about 48 hours earlier. the court documents also show that emerson said he had struggled with depression. and by the way, faa records show he passed his medical exam just last month. live in the newsroom, gloria rodriguez, abc seven news. >> gloria, thank you. if you're in san francisco this morning,

again to elect a new house speaker. last night, they picked their fourth nominee for the job and jobina, there are questions if he can get enough votes to win. >> yes, kumasi this morning, house republicans are projecting unity after the vote last night made louisiana congressman mike johnson their nominee. but 44 republican voted for other candidates, including kevin mccarthy, who was ousted from the job three weeks ago. mccarthy late yesterday floated a plan in which he would return as speaker with jim jordan, another nominee who fell short of votes as assistant. interesting. so the proposal came after the third nominee, john emmer, dropped out of the race just hours after securing the nomination. politico reports. after emmer withdrew, former president donald trump was quoted saying he is done. it's over. i killed him, end quote. one lawmaker appeared to be stunned by all of the chaos, hopelessly divided.

only in the 60 today. i do want to get you the latest on hurricane otis. this was a major category five hurricane that made landfall about five miles south of acapulco late last night with winds of 165mph. and it is historic. it's the strongest hurricane to make landfall in mexico. it's the only category five hurricane to make landfall in the eastern pacific. and it just had explosive growth yesterday, went from a tropical storm to a category four hurricane in just 12 hours. that is unpressed dented and then it strengthened to a category five storm as it made landfall. it's now weakened to a category two storm as it moves its way across land. back here at home, we'll find clouds on the increase throughout the day. temperatures only in the 60s. today it does get breezy out there. winds gusting about 15 to 30mph. later on today, certainly feeling like fall today. it's brighter tomorrow on the three day forecast, less wind and that slight chance of a shower on friday, that chance is dwindling. we'll take a closer look at that chance. and also

now the lgbtq nightclub plans to reopen by the end of the year at a new location in the city. the new venue will be managed and operated by survivors. the night of that shooting, michael anderson was tending bar. now he's the vp of operations for what will be known as the q, located inside the satellite hotel about four miles away. anderson says he wants the local lgbtq community to have space again after was taken away by the shooter. >> i freaking love the view of the mountains right there. i that is like seals the deal for me right there. during the shooting, i got trapped inside the building and that is one of the worst feelings you could ever feel here in a new space. and we can create new memories

yesterday. with all that fog we were dealing with. no dense fog advisories today, but changes are coming. here's a cold front. it's moving into northern california as we speak. it will bring additional cloud cover to our sky kick up the winds and around ukiah and cloverdale. there may be a light sprinkle early this afternoon, but that's about it. we're not tracking widespread rainfall with this system, just an increase in cloud cover and increase in our winds. this front passes through tomorrow morning and that will clear out our skies for thursday . here's the winds, though. later on this afternoon. we expect those winds gusting about 15 to 30mph. that's just going to usher in a cooler fall feeling today. temperatures today limited to the 60s. so you take that jacket with you this morning for some of us, you may or may not take it off all day because temperatures are below average for this time of the year with that limited sunshine. that front clears us overnight tonight. it takes the cloud cover, but it allows even cooler air to move in here. we're tracking 30s from santa rosa to lakeport to ukiah first thing tomorrow morning. even around the bay shoreline, upper 40s to lower 50s. so that heavier jacket needed thursday morning.
