bay area all weekend long is now expired and that is welcome news to firefighters. they've had their hands full with a number of blazes fueled by high winds. good evening and thank you for joining us. i'm j.r. stone. it's this kind of scene that has firefighters concerned. this is time lapse video of a small brush fire pushed by winds that burned about ten acres this afternoon in solano county near lake herman. we have team coverage tonight with the latest on the red flag warning. we begin with abc seven news reporter cornell bernard live in santa rosa. >> j.r, it looks like the danger for now has passed now that that red flag warning has expired aired. but, you know, it still feels like fire weather. here it is, is breezy. it is warm and the air is still very dry. it's been a nervous weekend, understandably, for folks here in fountaingrove. this is an area that saw so much devastation in 2017. luckily

it's been quiet here today, but other parts of the bay area saw fire activity. >> it's not every day you wake up and you see smoke and flames from behind the neighbor's house. >> this is what mike barnum and his neighbors woke up to sunday morning. a grass fire burning near oxford way in benicia. cal fire says dry winds from red flag conditions helped push the fire to about ten acres before it was stopped by fire crews. >> we're getting ready to go to church and decided we better stick around for a couple more minutes, make sure we had a go bag. and the dogs are taking care of. yeah, it was pretty, pretty alarming to see, you know. but luckily, as soon as we saw it, we called 911 and petaluma firefighters battled this blaze sunday morning, which destroyed three barns at a fertilizer manufacturing business on jewett road. >> the fire chief says red flag conditions allowed the fire to jump between structures. >> absolutely. these create very fast moving fires. they move from building to building very quickly. he threw the embers and the brands that get created from the fire. and that's what

happened here today as well as direct exposure from the wind pushing the fire onto the other buildings. >> we've been monitoring, at least here locally, we our weather conditions, both in our valley floors, our hillside communities. >> santa rosa fire marshal paul lowenthal says his department is up staffed and ready this weekend during the red flag fire, warning other agencies like sonoma county fire district, his positioning fire engines near open space and its chopper is ready to fly just in case. it's a nervous weekend for jeffrey mclaughlin and jerome pinkett, who live in santa rosa's fountaingrove neighborhood. they have lived through wildfires and evacuated before. >> this morning i said, well, we survived one night, and if we just get to a second night, you just you're on edge. you know, it's just because you god, you don't want to go through this. main concerns would be if someone is working out in the backyard or something like that and does a spark and then that spark catches on fire. and then the winds blow the fire like it did a couple years ago down around our area, around our house. >> best case scenario, we had a

red flag warning and nothing comes of it. and that that would really be the best case scenario. but at the same time, we want our community to remain prepared and we as fire agencies will do the same. >> yeah, this neighborhood is very prepared and a lot of folks around here know exactly what to do when it comes to preparing for emergencies by having cell phones charged and go bags ready as for the two fires we showed you in our story, the causes are still undetermined. we're live in santa rosa tonight. i'm cornell barnard, abc seven news. >> cornell, thank you so much. the wind gusts have diminished considerably over the last few hours. spencer christian continues our team coverage tonight with more on the conditions right now. spencer right, j.r. we're very fortunate that we had the strong, gusty winds earlier and the dangerously low relative humidity. >> all of that is changing right now. so our red flag warning has been lifted. so as the wind advisory, you can see a wind at the surface right now is very calm. under ten miles per hour. and even in the hills where we had our strongest gusts earlier, we've got basically 10 to 15

mile per hour winds, relative humidity is increasing right now in some spots, like where you just saw cornell up in sonoma county, still between 20, 25. but it's on the increase much better than the single digit humidity readings we had earlier today. so when we go to current conditions, we have temperature readings in the upper 60s to low 70s right now, a mild and calm early evening across the bay area and the weather conditions are only going to get more favorable as we get into the coming week. i'll have the accuweather forecast coming up in just a moment. j.r. spencer, thank you so much. >> great news to hear there. residents of lewiston, maine, are gathered together tonight to remember and honor the 18 lives taken in wednesday's mass shooting. hundreds gathered in lewiston for a candlelight vigil at the site of the attacks. this is the community now comes together. 18 crosses now stand at the bowling alley and restaurant where the shootings took place. abc news reporter morgan norwood has new details about the investigation. >> friends and family gathering to remember those killed in last

wednesday's horrific mass shooting at a bowling alley and bar in lewiston, maine. >> we think of those who lost their lives as we do not want to forget those that are in the hospital right now still fighting for their lives following a massive manhunt that lasted more than 48 hours. >> the suspected shooter, 40 year old robert card, found dead friday of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. 18 people killed, including billy brackett. his father says since the shooting, anger has consumed him. >> just a lot of anger. i calm me down a little bit today because i know the guy is gone and he's no longer a threat to anybody. >> among the 13 others injured, tom birdie, who was shot at the bowling alley, tom was able to get these kids out of the line of fire and ended up getting shot himself. abc news has learned the suspect ordered a silencer back in august. it was shipped to the nearest gun dealer, coastal defense. but he had to fill out this 4473, a

firearms transaction record form which asked in part, have you ever been committed to a mental institution to which he checked? yes. that answer under maine's yellow flag laws prevented him from getting the suppressor and said, i'm sorry, mister card, we cannot give you this because of these reasons. >> and he was very cooperative and he said, oh, that's a mistake. and i'm sure i can get it clarified. >> during a briefing saturday. officials emphasize mental health is a key focus of their investigation. this in addition to cards, possession of firearms and whether his psychiatric history should have barred him from possessing any guns at all on saturday, an atf official said the weapons were covered in the investigation appear to have been purchased legally. morgan norwood, abc news lewis in maine. new details now in the war between israel and hamas. >> nearly three dozen trucks have entered gaza and the largest aid convoy since the war began. humanitarian workers say

>> if this order is signed, this week, when do you expect the ban would go into effect? >> so what we're planning to do is to first make sure that we have alternative spaces for our street vendors to go to. so right now we're looking at is probably about two weeks or the middle of november is what we're looking for the band to take effect. >> so the city station at 24th and mission street has been described as getting out of control. how will this ban be enforced? right. >> so the idea is to really make it easy for our public works and law enforcement agencies to make sure that the streets are clear and safe. public works will be out informing people they are out there now, letting people know about the ban. and then once it takes effect, they will they will be out and, you know,

just letting people know that it's not allowed to vend on mission street. i want to be very clear that this is just mission street for the most part. the rest of the city is still accessible to street vendors. >> as you mentioned, at one point, we need more police presence for this ban to work. what do you say to critics who argue we don't have enough police officers to respond to life threatening emergencies? how will this be any different? >> sfpd is there to support public works, as you mentioned, and many of the inspectors have to wear bulletproof vests because they've been attacked and harassed. the police there are there to support public works. you know, frankly, we're talking about a one mile stretch of road here. >> that was abc seven's stephanie sierra reporting. if the ban is passed, any street vending would be prohibited along mission street between cesar chavez and 14th streets for 90 days. then it may become permanent. still ahead, an event that's a little like owning your

see the wind really pushing those model ships, at least here in san francisco. no not right now. >> yes. earlier today, in the morning hours, we had some strong gusts, especially in the higher elevations right now, things are much calmer. jr we are fortunate. here's a look at what's going on with the winds at the surface under ten miles per hour in most locations and the 24 hour temperature change shows quite a warm up. six degrees of warmer in san francisco and oakland right now than yesterday at this time. so it's going to be a very mild evening. well, it is. it already is. here's the view from sutro tower looking out over san francisco, where it's 65. we have upper 60s in oakland and mountain view, 64, palo alto, 70, san jose, 61 at half moon bay. and from mt. tam, looking down onto the bay under mainly clear skies, 72 degrees in santa rosa right now mid to upper 60s at novato, napa, fairfield and livermore and 71in concord. and a view of the setting sun from the east bay hills camera. these are our forecast headlines mostly clear tonight. fire danger diminishes. it has diminished significantly already. winds will decrease. continue to do so. humidity

continues to increase and we can expect warmer days this week with the possibility of some showers by saturday. but for tonight, nothing but clear sky and a few high clouds, thin high clouds moving overhead. we'll start the day tomorrow with sunny skies overnight, low temperatures will be mainly in the mid 40s, mid to upper 40s. a little chillier. farther away from the bay up north, santa rosa, a low of 39 over at fairfield, low of 39 tonight as well. highs tomorrow under sunny skies, 68 degrees in half. moon bay, 71in san francisco, right around the bay shoreline. we'll see mainly low to mid 70s and inland areas will also be mainly in the low to mid 70s. so not a wide range of temperatures from the bay to the inland areas. we have a rather uniform warm range of high temperatures. tomorrow it's going to be nice and pleasant and mild. now, excuse me, as we look at the accuweather seven day forecast, we see that tuesday halloween is going to be a mild day as well. a few more clouds in the sky on tuesday, but that only adds to the fun of sunset and trick or

treating. then on wednesday we get a little autumn warmth with high temperatures inland in the upper 70s in fact, it will be close to 70 degrees on the coast on wednesday. later in the week, still mild as friday approaches a few more clouds come into the picture. then on saturday, we have just a slight chance of some light showers. now abc seven sports with chris alvarez as well. >> welcome to sports live from levi's stadium the scene of another 40 niners loss. they had two straight losses coming in this game and they were hosting the cincinnati bengals a team they've actually won two super bowls against but that was kind of the focus of alumni weekend. but first, let's talk about what happened here on the field today. this afternoon in brock purdy was clear to go concussion protocols early in the week and he got the start and the bengals scored first but the niners tied up with guess who christian mccaffrey seven 18th straight game with a score tying the all time nfl record set by lenny moore. but the bengals respond joe burrow rolling out throws his second touchdown of the

first quarter at one point he completed 18 straight passes. the bengals led 14 to 7. after one it was 1710 at the half bengals late third quarter. niners inside the red zone trying to tie it up and brock purdy rolling right and oh boy right to bengals linebacker jermaine pratt kyle shanahan can't like that the bengals punted so the niners actually got the ball back on his very next throw purdy intercepted again. this time it's logan wilson again shanahan disappointed and purdy having a rough go but the very next play burrow to ja'marr chase and just like that 2410 as chase does a backflip in the end zone but the niners trying to make it a game here in the fourth quarter purdy he's got some moxie across the field to mccaffrey second touchdown of the day 24 to 17 we got a ball game and his parents love it up in the stands the niners defense needing to make a stop and they just couldn't do it joe mixon from oakley untouched high steps in 31 to 17. cincinnati in desperation

time purdy is strip sacked george kittle had 149 yards receiving and goes for nothing on his end. the niners dropped their third straight 31 to 17 after was all pro fred warner was asked if he still trusted brock. >> you want me to say no? i mean, come on now. like the thing is, is the quarterback is always going to receive the blunt and like the brunt of the criticism. but but brock is like the least of my worries. brock is made of the right stuff. yeah. can he protect the ball better? sure. but he's the reason why we have a chance to win games and every single game that we're in like right now i can't like the common denominator right now is that i haven't been able to say in the last three losses that man, the defense had our best outing. we just happened to lose. we're not playing good football on our side. >> talk about a great teammate

right there. as i mentioned off the top alumni weekend here at levi's, joe montana, jerry rice and all their friends were in town. joe staley also signing some autographs for the faithful. more than 140 niners alums celebrating the team's great history, especially against the bengals. remember, the niners won super bowl 16 and 23 back in the 1980s. both over the bengals and earlier today. i caught up with longtime offensive lineman joe staley played all 13 seasons in red and gold, and he told me the thing he remembers most about his time playing his teammates was seeing people that have had such a huge impact on my life. >> you know, the game of football brings so many different people together for so many different walks of life. and that's the thing that i probably cherish most about my time. and it wasn't maybe the memories or, you know, actually playing the game of football. it was just the people that you get to meet, the life you got to live and the different fans and everybody that you get to interact with. >> great to see all the guys earlier today in less than a week after throwing for nearly 400 yards against the 49 ers. espn's adam schefter reports.
