need the winter jacket and other spots. just a light layer will do. first thing this morning, we'll take you to sutro tower right now with a view of the city. you can see the east bay in the background. great visibility, expecting light winds, bright sunshine. it's a mild monday out there. temperatures later today away from the coast going into the 70s. feels quite nice today. that's weather. let's get a check of traffic with jobina. good morning. >> good morning, drew. thank you. hi, everyone. so we are starting with a rollover crash right now underway in san jose. and you can see the backup has formed here on northbound 680 before atlantis avenue. your speeds are down to around 12mph in this spot. we also have a crash in the counter commute direction that is causing a little bit of a slowdown and definitely onlooker traffic eastbound for past bailey road in bay point. and then we will end here with a live picture from the bay bridge toll toll plaza specifically the metering lights. so we have a different angle here. so you can see that backup as you approach the bridge. reggie and kumasi, thanks for being on the east bay . >> overnight, a bomb squad was seen looking for possible

explosives after a person led law enforcement on a chase from san francisco to martinez. this started when witnesses say a man walked into the saints. peter and paul church in north beach yesterday evening. abc7 news spoke to the pastor who says man unknown to him entered the church to communion and then assaulted a parishioner after being chased out of the church. san francisco police say they saw the suspect driving away and got into a chase. sfpd tells us the man was throwing suspicious devices out of his car as they chased him through san francisco . chp then took over the chase following him across the bay bridge and ultimately arresting him in martin says. chp says he didn't throw anything out during their portion of the chase, but they say they did find items in his car when they caught up to him. chp didn't say which items were found. no one was seriously hurt and anyone with info is asked to call san francisco police a ban on street vendors in san francisco is expected to take effect in just a few weeks, but it's not really sitting well

with people who rely on that business today. >> some of those vendors will be reportedly meeting with city officials. abc seven news reporter lena howland in the newsroom this morning telling us the ban is meant to target vendors who don't have permits and are selling stolen goods. lena >> hey, kumasi. that's right. san francisco's supervisor, hillary ronen says that the looming ban on street vending in the mission district is a necessary emergency measure. ronen says it's come to a point where public works employees are wearing bulletproof vests to work as they regularly deal with attacks. that's why she's hoping to start with a 90 day ban on street vending in this area. but if it works, keep the ban indefinitely. her office says the goal is to make it easier for public works and law enforcement agencies to make sure that the streets are clear and safe. a legislator aide to ronen said over the next couple of weeks, public works officials will be out talking to vendors, letting them know about the ban. so what we're planning to do is to first make sure that we have

and jobina israel is now demanding russian officials take action after a mob stormed an airport. >> yes, kumasi an anti-semitic mob reported stormed a russian airport targeting passengers arriving on a flight from tel aviv. and new video here shows the chaos at the airport in the predominantly muslim russian republic of dagestan. so what we're learning here is russian media is reporting a mob of hundreds rushed that airport chanting anti-semitic slogans. some made their way onto the tarmac. health officials say more than 20 people were hurt. israel is condemning the incident, pushing russia to, quote, protect the safety of all israeli citizens and jews and act resolutely and against the rioters at the israel-gaza border. airstrikes are escalating. the israeli defense forces is dispatching king armored tanks in gaza. president biden spoke with prime minister benjamin netanyahu, saying, quote, israel needs to defend itself in a manner consistent with international humanitarian law, end quote. meanwhile, food

and water is running low in gaza. the united nations is warning of a worsening humanitarian crisis. the agency says thousands of gazans broke into their warehouses, is taking basic survival items and calling it a worse warning sign of civil order war that has started to break down. there and israel says it plans to increase the amount of aid going into gaza starting today. but it did not say by how much. reggie thank you. >> jobina. halloween celebrations are getting off to a violent start in communities across the country. in tampa, florida, a shooting left at least two people dead and more than a dozen others hurt. in chicago, at least 15 people were shot at a party to of them with critical injuries. in indianapolis, ten people were shot and one woman was killed. >> unfortunately, somebody took it upon themselves to inflict injury and pain on members of our community. and it's not acceptable.

so this was not supposed to happen. >> a crash on a highway in british columbia caused an unexpected fireworks show. police say a semi truck hit a pickup truck carrying a trailer full of, you guessed it, fireworks. the impromptu show lasted for about an hour. local outlets report one person was sent to the hospital. the cause of the crash is still under investigation. in an hour. i know. that's a long a long time. >> wow. okay. all right. live doppler seven along with satellite will take you across california. and you're noticing a really quiet picture. we have mild temperatures next couple of days. we're expecting a lot of sunshine. it's really just a nice way to finish out the month. here's the 24 hour temperature change in most cities right now. we are a lot cooler compared to this time yesterday by about 10 to 20 degrees in some spots. we do have a wide range of temperatures this morning. our coolest valleys in the 30s. but along the coast, half moon bay right now is starting out in the low 60s. here is future weather.

less than a week after the mass shooting there. the goal of this gathering was to lift up those left to grieve the victims. as more than 1000 people showed up to the vigil last night to remember the 18 lives lost and 13 people hurt in maine's worst mass shooting ever. >> why this area? why this many people? why in general? i would love to know why this all happened, because it just doesn't make sense. it really doesn't. the shooter, 40 year old army reservist robert card, was found dead with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound in an unlocked trailer at a recycling center where he worked. >> abc news has learned card continued to have access to weapons despite a yellow flag law in maine allowing guns to be seized from people deemed a threat. last month, the sheriff reportedly sent an alert to other authorities after sources say card threatened to shoot up an army reserve center. >> we paid attention to it, kept an eye on the area. the guy never showed up down here, never had contact with him? no. nothing.

>> the motive for the mass shooting is still under investigation. in the east bay, an approach to report car break-ins through social media ended less than 24 hours after it started. the oakland police department announced saturday it was temporarily deactivating the instagram and x accounts where people could report auto burglaries. on tuesday, police said the program was supposed to run through the weekend. the department now tells abc7 news it concluded as scheduled. it also says it's reviewing the effectiveness of the program. >> a heads up if you use the dumbarton bridge starting tonight in the eastbound direction is going to be closed overnight for construction crews are repaving the road. the closure runs from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. every night, starting tonight, going through friday, the bridge will remain open in the westbound direction in san francisco's castro district held its first real halloween celebration in 17 years this weekend. >> it featured kids games during the day and a late night block party. the family focused event

would not qualify for the upcoming third republican debate . this morning, governor gavin newsom is back in california after his week long trip to china. the goal of the visit was for newsom to promote climate friendly initiatives between the two countries, while also gearing up for next month's asia pacific economic cooperation forum. also known as apec, which, as you know, is going to be here in san francisco. now, yesterday, the governor visited a tesla factory in shanghai. he was shown the company's latest self-driving technology and this is less than a week after cruz has paused its robotaxi service, the california dmv suspended its driverless permit over allegations the company withheld information on a crash that seriously injured a pedestrian. newsom said he supported the dmv decision. the iconic dolby theater in hollywood. it's up for sale. bloomberg is reporting the home of the academy awards is up for sale, along with two parking lots. the 3400 seat venue could go for as much as

news is that that crash we're following in bay point has cleared, but we still have this issue underway in san jose, northbound 680 before landis avenue. the speeds are picking up now around 17mph. but this rollover crash involving a big rig has been taking some time to clear. now we flip the camera so you can see the backup at the bay bridge toll plaza metering lights came on here at 531. traffic is into the maze and the backup is around 2.5 miles long. as you approach the richmond-san rafael bridge due to that sigalert in the westbound direction. >> thanks, jobina happening tonight, street vendors in san francisco will reportedly get to meet city officials face to face . they're upset. a plan to temporarily ban vending on mission street is going to hurt their livelihood. abc seven news reporter lena howland is in the newsroom this morning with what the city says it's doing to help legal vendors continue their business. hi, lena. hey reggie. >> an aide to supervisor hillary ronan's office said it is likely that we can expect to see this ban take effect in about two weeks. and it's specific to the mission district. that's from

another meeting to talk about this looming ban tonight with city officials. live in the newsroom. lena howland, abc seven news, thank you, lena. >> some scary moments captured on camera when an angry group of people stormed a russian airport as a flight from israel landed. it happened last night. these pro palestinian protesters stormed the facility. they overtook the tarmac and surrounded, added a flight coming in from tel aviv. local authorities say at least 20 people were injured, most of them police hit by stones. this morning, the situation in gaza is growing more dire as israel expands its ground invasion. >> multiple reports say the un security council is holding an emergency meeting today. nearly three dozen trucks entered gaza over the weekend marking the largest aid convoys since the war began. although the un says that humanitarian aid is still falling short. israeli defense forces continue hitting gaza with airstrikes. its military claims it has now destroyed 150

underground hamas targets. the gaza health ministry said the death toll among palestinians passed 8000. most women and minors. the united arab emirates is among those calling for a humanitarian pause in the fighting. >> i regret that instead of a critically needed humanitarian pause, supported by the international community, israel has intensified its military operations. >> president biden says he spoke with israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu yesterday. the white house says biden discussed efforts to free hostages from hamas and reiterated israel's need to defend itself. quote, in a manner consistent with international humanitarian law. >> here in the bay area, residents rallied as the war intensifies between israel and hamas. more than 10,000 demonstrators marched in san francisco. they filled market street and at one point blocked traffic on the freeway in support of the civilian victims in gaza. yesterday, hundreds of

people gathered in the city demanding the safe return of more than 200 hostages taken by hamas. >> this is my cousin's wife, shiri. she's a hostage. this is her daughter, noga. my second cousin. she's a hostage. >> israel must restore for the confidence of its citizens us for its security so that hamas cannot repeat the atrocities. october 7th. >> the anti-defamation league says there has been a 400% increase in anti-semitic ism since the conflict started earlier this year. bay. >> a rally advocating for the lives and freedom of those in gaza. people gathered in front of city hall yesterday to demonstrate against the ongoing military action there. organizers say they want an end to us financial aid and military aid to israel. they also call for an immediate cease fire and humanitarian corridor into gaza.

>> this morning, tributes continue to come in for actor matthew perry. the friends star was found unresponsive at his home on saturday. and investigators are taking additional steps to uncover his cause of death. investigators say matthew perry was discovered on saturday. >> jobina. thank you, kumasi. he was unconscious in his hot tub and by the time police arrived, it was too late to save him. officers immediately put up a tent to shield the scene from paparazzi. according to tmz, perry had been in good spirits earlier in the day and had played pickleball at a nearby club. the la county medical examiner finished the autopsy yesterday. it found no obvious signs of trauma and no evidence of foul play. but the report did not have a cause of death pending a toxicology report, which could take weeks. perry openly struggled with addiction throughout his career, and he revealed in an interview with diane sawyer how severe his drug use was at 55 viking in a day,

you can stay tuned for after the game and a special edition of abc seven news at nine. some history in college football made over the weekend. leilani arminta of jackson state became the first woman to score in an hbcu game. arminta ended up going three for three in extra points in jackson state's win over arkansas pine bluff. she's recovered from an acl tear, which she had last season playing for the soccer team. our mentor, who is from southern california, wasn't originally set to play but got called on after the kicker and the punter both got hurt. congrats relations. it's all love. this is a historically black college and university that my college actually played earlier this year and so speaking of, i was at my hbcu, the best hbcu. i will just say florida a&m university. well, well for our home team has something to say

about it. might have a little something to say, but we'll give her her time later. my moment. so florida a&m university, it was homecoming. this was at convocation, which is one of my favorite events. everybody is just in the building. this is on friday. and you have rattlers of all generations there. yes. this honey, i have to tell you all about her. she is like the designer of those clothes, melissa mitchell. she is awesome. so this is just being on campus. it was so amazing just to be there. yes and who's that? this is my line, sister. my sorority sister. and this is the class of 2003, y'all. my freshman class. i came in 2003, and so we had our 20 year anniversary. so it was like a reunion for all of our class. this was a tailgate. the tailgate was so much fun. i mean, we had a whole time, um, and then of course, there's the game. there's all the of course we want to stomp them. we don't even know who that is anymore.
