everyone know the missed us a little earlier. the metering lights are officially on. they flipped on at 543. and then we will end with a live picture in walnut creek showing you a busy 680 in the southbound direction. >> thanks, jobina. police in the south bay are investigating a brazen daytime robbery and it was all caught on a home surveillance camera. abc seven spoke with the grandson of the elderly couple targeted and he's hoping that this footage can help police find the people who did it. abc seven news reporter lena howland live in the south bay this morning with that video. lena >> well, the grandson of the couple targeted said they were vulnerable. hard of hearing and could barely speak any english. and now he's asking for your help to find the three people responsible. take a look on friday afternoon, the grandson said three people opened the gate to his grandpa front yard off of story road, while two of them asked if they could pick flowers. a third person made their way inside and he said his grandmother didn't know someone was robbing them until it was

too late. minutes later. you can see one of them carrying a safe outside the safe had around like $10,000 in it. >> i was scared me to moses that the first individual to enter the house with a smile on her face like that, she was happy to rob my parents, grandparents, which hurt me a lot. >> the couple's grandson said the three suspects went through three bedrooms and two hallway closets to find that safe before taking off with it in a white van. the couple have since installed new locks and will be getting more cameras installed today. meanwhile, if you recognize any of the three suspects caught on camera in this video, you are asked to call police right away. live in san jose, lena howland, abc seven news. >> thank you, lena. alameda unified officials are warning parents to check their child's halloween candy before they eat it because several students ended up with cannabis infused candy during a halloween event that happened at the school over the weekend. one child got sick.

other parents found the candy before their kids could open them. the trick or treating event was happening in one of amelia earhart elementary schools parking lots. the alameda unified school district says one student at least part of the cannabis infused candy. three other families say they found the same edible in their kids candy bags. >> we do know that the student appears to have ingested the candy unintentionally. the family got help. the student is stable, ized and is doing well. >> all the edible candies the families reported were in blue packages. the superintendent says the district is now working with police to see where where this candy came from. >> we are learning more this morning about the man accused of assaulting a parishioner at a well-known san francisco church before leading police on a chase that ended in martinez. police say all of this started at saints peter and paul church in north beach on sunday afternoon, where they say dave garcia punched a person who was praying

during mass. garcia then led officers on a chase through san francisco across the bay bridge to martinez. our media partners at the sf standard report that garcia was previously convicted in 2011 in a car bombing in fairfax, fillled, that damaged a vehicle and an apartment complex for that, he was sentenced to 35 years in prison, but won early release in 2019. during sunday's chase, police say officers felt their lives were in danger when they saw garcia intentionally throw two explosive devices toward their cars. >> the officers described not only seeing the flames of the device that hit the ground, but also the officers could feel the when the bomb detonated, they could feel the blowback from that in their vehicles. garcia is facing murder charges, is being held in san francisco county jail. on a surprising development in the debate over

public safety in san francisco. >> supervisor matt dorsey is now reportedly rejecting his own plan to improve police staffing after another supervisor introduced changes to that measure. the chronicle reports the debate centers around $30 million a year in funding to recruit new officers. dorsey's original charter amendment used money already in the city's budget, but yesterday, during a rules committee meeting, supervisor asha sapphire introduced an amendment making the funding reliant on new or modified taxes. dorsey called the idea a, quote, poison pill, but sapphire and others criticized the original plan for using so much money when many departments are facing cuts. dorsey is now reportedly considering taking his original proposal to voters in the form of a ballot measure. >> happening today, the us government says it's going to operate its final charter flight out of tel aviv to bring americans home. commercial flights are still available on el al, but they are limited. we're also learning about one of the americans who was held hostage by hamas. 18 year old natalie. natalie renan arrived

back in the us yesterday, returning to a chicago area home. her mother, judith, was also captured. she is now with family in israel after being freed. jobina. this is all happening as israel's intensifying its ground offensive in gaza. yes, reggie, a relentless exchange of rocket fire between israel and hamas continues this morning. >> israel is rejecting calls for a cease fire. prime minister benjamin netanyahu says he has no plans to resign as some military and political figures call on him to quit. now following claims he bears responsibility for the failures that led to the war. he is pleading with the international community to support israel, framing the war as a fight for civilization. he is vowing that israel will keep fighting despite international criticism, just as the united states would not agree to a cease fire after the bombing of pearl harbor or after the terrorist attack of nine divided by 11. >> israel will not agree to a cessation of hostilities with hamas.

charges of fraud, conspiracy and money laundering on his alleged use of customer deposits, on fdx to cover losses at his hedge fund and pay off loans and by lavish real estate. he's pleaded not guilty to all counts. if convicted, he could face up to 110 years in prison. the city of san jose is expanding its automatic license plate reader program. um, you can see a map. mayor matt mehan helping install a new camera in this video posted to social media. in the video, he says the cameras have already made the city safer, helping to solve multiple crimes, including robbery, his hit and runs home invasion and stolen vehicles. mayor mehan says the readers take still photos of license plates and that the tech is, quote, very limited and deleted on a regular

basis. thousands of workers and faculty in the cal state university system are one step closer to going on strike. both the skilled trades teamster and the california faculty association, or cfa, voted over whelming lee to authorize strikes. cfa leaders say a strike for them is not imminent, but they're ready to do what's best for their members and students. >> we love our students. we love our jobs. we are public servants of the people of california. but students are being hurt right now. >> the cfa represents 29,000 professors, lecturers, coaches and other faculty. at the 23 csu campuses, they're demanding a 12% pay increase. the csu board is reportedly countering with 5. we reached out to the csu board of trustees for more comment, but we have not heard back. we're learning more about the tentative contract agreement between general motors and the united auto workers union. we

first told you about this yesterday on abc, seven morning's just moments after they announced this agreement. the uaw released a statement saying this agreement includes record economic gains for its members. it's said to be similar to the deals announced last week with ford and stellantis, including a roughly 25% raise over four years and improvements to pensions. >> our bargainers did their job. they're going to present us with something and then we get to tell them it was good enough or it wasn't. >> the last of the big three to make a deal, it could end the six week long strike. the three agreements have to be approved by union members. those votes are expected to happen over the next two weeks. according to the ap, gm was losing about $200 million a week during this strike. new at six, a biden administration is urging schools to keep medication on hand that can reverse opioid overdoses. in a letter, white house officials said every school across the us should stock narcan and faculty and staff should be trained to use it. the message comes amid a rise in adolescent overdose

police in the south bay are investigating after a brazen in daytime robbery all caught on camera in this case, the family says thieves ripped off an older couple at their home. police are now hoping that this footage can help find these people. abc seven news reporter lena howland live in the south bay this morning with more on that video. hi, lena. hey reggie. >> this ring doorbell video shows the heartbreaking moment that this elderly couple was taken advantage of. their grandson says they were home alone and they were tricked into thinking that three suspects just wanted to stop by and talk about their garden. take a look. on friday afternoon, the grandson said three individuals that looked female opened the gate to his grandparents front yard off of story road while two of them asked if they could pick flowers from their garden. a third person made their way inside with a smile on their face. he said his grandmother didn't know someone was robbing them until it was too late. minutes later, you can see one

people on what they say are unsafe conditions. the department says the main issue is a lack of proper refrigeration or clean water. they say permits are required for any street and sidewalk vendors to sell food in the city. ucsf infectious disease expert dr. monica gandhi looked at some of the photos of the food being sold and says bacteria is breeding in these boxes as if they're kept at room temperature and not cooked to at least 165 degrees. >> the kind of bacteria that hot dogs can breed are salmonella, for example, which is a common type of food poisoning. >> one vendor we spoke with says she hasn't heard of anybody getting sick from her food, but she'd like for city workers to train them on how to manage products. >> we're learning the results of a statewide investigation looking at implicit bias among health care workers who work with pregnant people. the investigation started after the state legislature passed a bill in 2019 requiring all health professionals to receive

training to reduce racial biases. according to recent data, black women have maternal mortality rates far higher than any other racial group and 3 to 4 times higher compared to white women. the children's council of san francisco says lack of investment and systemic racism are two of the main reasons for the development. >> social, emotional kindergarten readiness are all key components that are impacted by black moms, black families not having the necessary access to resou. >> california attorney general rob bonta says when the investigation started in 2021, less than 17% of hospitals had started training their employees. now they say that number is above 80. >> president biden has signed an executive order to roll out require payments for developers of artificial intelligence. his administration says the order includes the most sweeping actions to protect americans from the potential risks of ai systems. the commerce department now has to develop guidance for

watermarking content that shows the public it was made by ai developers will have to share results of their safety tests with the federal government before it's released to the public and much of what's in the order has roots in conversations that happen right here in the bay area. in june, the president sat down with experts and leaders at an ai conference at silicon valley. >> you know, the bay area is the brain of the united states when it comes to ai. so you talk to the brain first before they can do anything else. >> governor newsom issued a similar state executive order in september. >> former home insurance brands are reportedly leaving california. the chronicle obtained a document filed jointly this month with the department the california department of insurance. all four cited a plan by their parent company to stop providing certain types of home and auto insurance policies nationwide. so here's that list of mary star insurance company unitrin auto and home insurance company unitrin direct property and casualty company and kemper

independence insurance company. >> a trial is underway in colorado that seeks to disqualify former president donald trump from getting on the ballot in 2024. for those bringing, the case argued that under the constitution, trump's conduct the day of the capitol riot prohibits him from taking office again. jobina is live with how lawyers are reacting. >> thank you, kumasi. attorneys for former president trump appear confident they can beat the unprecedented lawsuit. a group of voters in colorado filed a lawsuit to arguing trump's efforts to overturn the 2020 election, leading to the january six insurrection should prohibit him from becoming president again. the suit invokes the 14th amendment. it's aimed at people who fought for the confederacy and disqualifies anyone who engaged in insurrection or rebellion from serving in government. trump's lawyers argue he never called for violence and did not walk down to the capitol as he said he would. >> the best they have is trying to be a mini me january 6th

report. that's the best they've got sort of a pretty slick movie production and that's not real evidence. that's a partizan witch hunt. >> trump incited a violent mob to attack our capitol to stop the peaceful transfer of power under our constitution. >> this is one of several lawsuits trying to remove trump from the ballot under the 14th amendment, a case in minnesota is set to start on thursday. other lawsuits are filed in new hampshire and michigan. the hearing in colorado is expected to wrap up on friday. a judge, not a jury, will decide this case. reggie jobina, thank you. >> police in colorado are investigating security scare at an amusement park after a heavily armed man was found dead at that park. a maintenance crew found the body of 20 year old diego medina inside the women's bathroom at glenwood caverns adventure park saturday. he had apparently entered the park before it opened. police say he was armed with an ar style rifle, a semiautomatic handgun and explosives. he was wearing

body armor and tactical clothing on. officers also found multiple ieds in his car. investigators believe he died of a self-inflicted gunshot, but not carrying out whatever plans he may have had given the preparation, given the amount of weapons and the amount of ordnance he had, it almost seemed very highly likely that he intended to use those against the community. >> he chose not to. the weapons found on medina were ghost guns, which don't have serial numbers and cannot be traced. >> this morning, matthew perry's friends costars are speaking for the first time since his death. they released a joint statement saying, quote, we are all so utterly devastated, we were more than just castmates. we were our family. right now, we're going to take a moment to grieve and process this unfathomable loss as memorials to perry have popped up at the iconic friends apartment in new york. >> there's nobody like chandler. so so it's a terrible loss. it's unbelievable that he is not on

evacuations for people in the area. the highland fire has burned at least 1200 acres in aguanga, which is east of temecula. since the flames broke out yesterday afternoon, there's no containment as of this morning, at least three structures have been destroyed and six others are damaged. strong santa ana winds are expected to continue in the area today, which could help spread that fire. the cause is under investigation. >> a heads up if you're still using paper tickets on bart. bart says it will stop selling the tickets on november 30th. the agency is getting ready to
