again, here's a look at current temperatures and we're starting out a few degrees warmer this morning compared to the past couple of mornings. right now, we don't see any 30s on the board. we're mainly in the 40s and in the low 50s. so certainly the light jacket needed this morning and we'll warm up very nicely once again. here's future weather as we go hour by hour. you can see we're going into the 50s and 60s, closer to 12:00 pm and then later on this afternoon we'll go into the 70s by three, 4:00 pm. again, temperatures slightly above average for early november, but we'll have filtered sunshine throughout the day as we see some high clouds move in from time to time. so 72 in the city, 73 in oakland, 79. in san jose, about 75. in napa. that's your forecast. let's check those roads with jobina. good morning. >> good morning, drew. thank you. hi, everybody. so we are following a minor slowdown right now on our maps and it's due to a crash in oakland on northbound 880 past high street. you can see those speeds are around 17mph. the good news, though, is that it really hasn't caused a major backup because if you look

at our 880 at the coliseum camera, you can see that for the most part, traffic is moving smoothly, smoothly. and then we will end with an overall look at the map. reggie aqui macy, thanks, jobina all clear in the east bay after a fire prompted an evacuation warning for people in contra costa county early this morning. >> here's a look at the map. it happened in the community of canyon, which is very close to moraga, abc7 news reporter lena howland live in canyon with the tense moments for residents overnight. lena >> well, we are about a half mile down the hill from where the fire happened. staging at the post office this is where neighbors were told to evacuate to on foot in the middle of the night. this happened just after midnight. that's because the roads leading up to the fire were blocked by emergency vehicles. now, the video on your screen right now was taken around 1030 last night. it shows one home destroyed after a house fire which spread into nearby brush. according to fire officials, you can even see someone's car fully engulfed in

flames. the mirage orinda fire marshal said the fire burned between half an acre to a full acre. here's what one neighbor evacuating had to say. we heard an explosion and then a few minutes later, we heard fire trucks. >> and i went out onto the deck and we saw a house completely engulfed in flames. >> and the fire marshal said that they faced major access issues with very narrow roads and a limited water supply. that's why they had to bring in support from cal fire, east bay regional park district and the san ramon fire protection district. we are still waiting to hear if there was damage to any other homes up here in this community. but so far no injuries have been reported. live in canyon, lena howland, abc seven news. >> lena, thank you. president biden is now calling for a pause in fighting between israel and hamas to allow time to rescue

more hostages. jobina. his comments come as attacks are increasing. >> yes, reggie so president biden is calling the israel hamas crisis, quote, incredibly complicated. a heckler confronted the president at a fundraiser yesterday in minneapolis. the president responded saying, quote, i think a pause is needed for what he says could give more time to get the more than 200 civilian hostages taken by hamas out of gaza at the rafah crossing injured palestinians were among the first to enter egypt from gaza. hundreds of foreign nationals followed at least five americans were able to leave, including two aid workers this morning. hundreds more trapped americans have been approved to cross into egypt, as president biden insists, the us is focused on bringing them home. >> working non stop to get americans out of gaza as soon and as safely as possible. all this is the result of intense and urgent american diplomacy with our partners in the region. >> in gaza, for the second time

in a in as many days, israel launched airstrikes at a refugee camp. the israeli defense forces say the latest strike targeted a hamas command complex and killed hamas militant. it's the hamas run gaza health ministry claims palestinian civilians are among the dead. >> reggie jobina, thank you. the conflict in gaza could have an impact on the 2024 election. a group of muslim leaders in minnesota is calling for president biden to work towardew they're vowing to abandon biden and help defeat him in 2020. >> four more votes now free and every decision and action has a price tag. and the decision you made and the path you took, the price tag is we will boycott you and we will campaign against you and we will never vote for you as long you are against the life, the council on american-islamic relations

minnesota says thousands of muslim voters will not be voting for president biden in the 2024 election in the east bay, a bike path that cuts through an upscale neighborhood is causing a big stir and a lawsuit. >> so look at this map. thousands of cyclists were using the path that goes from the diablo neighborhood in danville to the summit of mount diablo. well, yesterday, a group of protesters came together outside of us bank in danville. a man who filed the lawsuit was a part of the group. his lawsuit claims the bank recently foreclosed on the property and then a fence was installed which blocked the trail. the suit claims an easement for the trail was dedicated to mount diablo state park in 1979. so that means it's public property. but there is an issue the park never formally accepted it. >> we're claiming we want the court to declare that through its actual use for the purpose for which it was dedicated. it is in fact a public easement and therefore the bank has no right to block the public's access

over that easement. >> in an email to abc seven news, u.s bank says it is the trustee of the foreclosed property and it directed questions to the loan servicer for the trust, a company named mr. cooper. the company and its lawyers did not return requests for comment. now to an interesting idea from the mayor of san jose, a score card to track the city's progress. >> so here's how it would work. the city will survey a new group of 800 residents each quarter to add information to the score card by the end of the year. city officials hope to have 3000 residents surveyed, much like any kind of report card, the system will focus on several key subjects and the city's progress . that includes community safety , homelessness, reduction, neighborhood cleanups and attracting jobs and housing. mayor mehan says the plan will be used to track other city programs in the future. >> i just think we need to do our best to make the score card level be really easily digestible for the public.

>> mayor mehan says realistically, san jose won't become 100% perfect, but his goal is to get the city in a much better place. well this is exciting. >> for the first time since the pandemic at sfo, an air china flight landed from beijing. so this is the first direct flight from mainland china to san francisco since march of 2020. back then, there were 300 direct flights a week between china and the us. now there are only 48. so china is hoping to double that by the end of the year and reestablish close ties with san francisco's chinese community. >> people are not 100% out of the pandemic unless we are able to travel conveniently and freely, just like before the pandemic. >> so these direct flights are very important to san francisco and its chinatown. before the pandemic, one third of visitors to chinatown came from china. >> san francisco's only outdoor ice rink is back, while the return signals the start of the holiday season, it also means a

today, but eventually by the time we get into the weekend, we will get some showers out of this front. but this morning, good morning, san jose. here is a live look outside where we do have mainly clear skies. and here's how your day shapes up. we'll have the sun up here at 736 in the morning. we'll add some clouds into the forecast later on this afternoon. and that's why we're calling it filtered sunshine. but we'll still keep the mild temperatures. later on this afternoon, we'll go into the upper 60s to the upper 70s across the board. so temperatures still above average for this time of the year. your sun going down later on at 609 this evening. so enjoy another mild day out there. we have those temperatures in the 70s for most part, 79 in san jose. we'll go to 73. in oakland, 72. the high in san francisco, about 75in napa, 78 in fairfield along the coast, we'll see a mix of sun and clouds. upper 60s to the mid 70s. looking at the three day forecast tomorrow, we'll go for morning clouds to afternoon sunshine. we'll keep temperatures pretty similar in the afternoon. but then as we head into saturday, we'll start to cool off a little bit and

to $1 billion for victims compensation. a representative for the archdiocese did not respond to the chronicle's request. request for comment on the group's valuation. >> san francisco based splunk is laying off 7% of its global workforce. according to its filings, nearly 540 employees will be cut with a majority in the us. the layoffs come ahead of the software company's $28 billion acquisition by cisco. in an email to employees, ceo gary steele said the cuts are not a result of the acquisition, but instead economic conditions. laid off workers will be offered a severance package, health care and job resources. there's a renewed effort to legalize sports gambling in california. it comes just a year after voters overwhelmingly rejected the idea to men reeve collins and ryan tyler walls introduce a new measure. we've learned the state's major tribes have to be involved in a deal in order for this to pass, it would be, um, exclusive to the state's native american tribes who could offer

sports betting in person at their casinos or across the state online using apps and sites that we would be branded with the tribes branding the california nations indian gaming association said not only do they not support these measures, but they weren't even involved in the planning. in a statement, the association said decision is driving the future of tribal governments should be made by tribal governments, while the sponsors of these initiatives may believe they know what is best for tribes, we encourage them to engage with indian country and ask rather than dictate. abc7 news tried contacting the men who introduced the measures, but we were not able to reach them. >> one of the world's strongest beers is coming back and it is so strong that it is banned in 15 states. it's legal here in california though. samuel adams utopias beer has 28% alcohol by volume or abv. now typical ipas have an abv of less than 7. yet experts say it tastes more like

but consciously festive. it is festive, actually. >> yes. >> we was like, oh, it's starbucks day. i'm going to get in the spirit to. >> so that was on purpose. perfect here we are. i love it. we were there yesterday morning and they had the boxes everywhere. oh, so they are prepared. i'm ready. cups? yes holidays are here. it's here. let's take a look at temperatures right now. so we are seeing some spots starting to dip into the 30s and staying in the 40s in a lot of areas. so some chilly spots like novato, that's usually our typical cold area this morning at 3940s and 50s around the bay shoreline. so we begin today with mainly clear skies but we'll have clouds moving in as a front gets closer to us. live doppler seven along with satellite, a bit more active than it has been over the past couple of days. a lot of rain coming to seattle and portland. it's a lot quieter as you head into california. you see this front here with that cloud cover. we're going to get what's called some of the blow off cloud cover from that system moving into our neck of the woods, not the moisture for today. we do stay dry, but as we increase the cloud cover

throughout the afternoon, that's why we're calling it filtered sunshine fine today, but still, we'll keep the trend of mild temperatures for another day into the 70s. for the most part, if you've liked the past couple of days, we continue that trend of above average numbers. 73 in oakland, 72 in the city near 80. in san jose, 75 in napa, going to about 68. in half moon bay. now let's go to future weather show. you that front as it tries to meander closer to northern california. so saturday night you can see this is 10 p.m. there's some moisture moving into northern california. i think saturday night, the best chance in the north bay. but by sunday, i think is a better bet for more people to see some rain. here's the accuweather seven day forecast next. seven days for you filtered sunshine and mild temperatures next couple of days there is that chance for those showers over the weekend. your clocks go back one hour. standard time begins and we still stay unsettled for early parts of next week. jobina >> thank you, drew. good morning, everybody. so the good news is that that crash we were following in oakland has cleared, so i'm giving you the

five years of age. a large donation brings oakland community leaders one step closer to a collective initiative. an anonymous person donated $10 million to rise east . the money will go toward improving a 40 by 40 block area in east oakland and hopes to keep and bring back displaced families of color improvements include black led nonprofits, a black cultural zone and a youth development center. all organizers need to raise $50 million by the end of the year to start the project. >> i'm a big fan of making sure that we work with community to have community led efforts so that we can actually come to the community with trusted messengers. >> the 40 blocks make up oakland's largest concentration of black residents. >> it's a learning center that provides a higher, higher education for adults with special needs is growing in the south bay. >> the college of adaptive arts in saratoga is hoping to refer students to a new advisory group that the county of santa clara

with us. we're a pretty tight community. it's very small egress and it's very difficult. so our phone tree was activated right away. most of our immediate neighbors are here. >> the fire marshal said they faced major access issues fighting this fire with very narrow roads and a limited water supply. that's why they brought in support from cal fire, east bay regional park district and the san ramon fire protection district. we are still waiting to hear if there was any other damage to any other homes here in this neighborhood. so far, no injuries have been reported. live in canyon, lena howland, abc seven news. >> thank you, lena. the man accused of throwing explosive devices at police during a chase from san francisco to the east bay is due to be back in court today. yesterday daniel garcia pleaded not guilty to a dozen different charges in a san francisco courtroom. he's accused of assaulting and attempting to rob someone at

saint peter and paul church sunday night, he allegedly threw multiple bombs at officers while leading them on a chase to the east bay. he was taken into custody in martinez. garcia is also dealing with a domestic violence case. he was also found guilty in 2012 for detonating a bomb under the car of one of his then tenants. legal experts say garcia's past could weigh on any potential sentencing for persons found guilty when it comes time for sentencing, then the judge is going to consider a range of factors and there someone's criminal history can make the punishment more severe. da brooke jenkins says she's planning to keep garcia in custody because of the threat he poses to public safety. >> san francisco city leaders are taking a stance against license plate covers that drivers are using for sideshows. the products cover plates with a screen and just a push of a button. they can be bought on amazon, ebay, etsy and walmart. city attorney david chiu sent a cease and desist letters to all four companies. our profound

be traveling to lewiston, maine. they'll be paying respects to the victims of last week's mass shooting along with family members and first responders. funeral services are set for some of the victims starting this weekend. there is now a plan to establish an independent commission in maine to investigate the mass shooting that killed those 18 people last week. the state's governor, janet mills, issued a statement saying she knows that a thorough and comprehensive investigation is under way. but an attack of this magnitude demands a higher level of scrutiny. her announcement came just hours after maine newspaper reported there was a 12 hour delay between the time officials found the suspected shooter, robert carr's vehicle and when investigators began using it for tracking and evidence. the town of lewiston is taking another step in its healing process after a high school football team celebrated a much needed victory before for the lewiston high school football team beat their rivals at home. celebrities recorded pre game videos to rally the community.

they've agreed to pay more than $300 million for wage theft. abc seven news reporter ryan curry in the newsroom with how prosecutors say both companies cheated drivers out of money. ryan >> yeah, kumasi good morning, new york. attorney general letitia james called this the largest wage theft settlement her office has ever secured. the money will be distributed to cheated drivers who will get back pay and mandatory paid sick leave. the two bay area companies will now start to give that money back to drivers who file claims. according to the attorney general, from 2014 to 2017, uber deducted sales taxes and black car fund fees from drivers payments. when those taxes and fees should have been paid by passengers. lyft deducted an 11% administrative charge from drivers payments, when it also should have been paid by riders. the new york attorney general said in a statement. for years, uber and lyft systemically cheated their drivers out of hundreds of
