nationals who have been trapped inside gaza are now making their way out of the enclave and into egypt. a senior administration official reports 74 us citizens and family members have arrived on the egyptian side of the rafah crossing as of this morning. this comes as an estimated 20,000 people in gaza are reported injured inside the territory. gaza's health ministry is now reporting an estimated 3600 palestinian children have been killed since the start of the war. israeli defense forces are now operating inside gaza city, encircling it from multiple fronts and direct confronting hamas terror cells as the war between israel and hamas continues, bay area families are urging the us government to intervene and to bring their loved ones back home . >> abc seven news reporter luz pena spoke to the family members of two grandmothers who are us citizens stuck in gaza lose that's right, julie. >> and this lawsuit is part of a larger group of us citizens nationwide suing the us government in hopes that their families will be evacuated

and safely evacuate every single american citizen from the gaza strip. i can probably name 1010 people in my family that are americans stuck in gaza. >> zaid bseiso was raised by his grandmother. she's 81 years old, a us citizen visiting family in gaza for almost a month, she's been trying to get out. >> she hasn't slept on a bed. she's 81, frail, like like this tall, not sleeping on cement floors or whatever she has. at the moment, there's 28 people in a room. is what she's telling me, which is like it's inhumane. >> last time saeed spoke to his grandmother was two days ago. every move, putting her life in danger. >> china explaining to me her conditions. she's like, it's my fifth time moving in less than 30 days. >> gaza's health ministry confirmed more than 9000 palestinians have been killed in the war, mostly women and minors. these families are hoping their lawsuit will expedite evacuations. >> we're hoping it applies

drug money. >> my office has identified patterns of money flow. we are tracking down suppliers and we are holding accountable money services. who turned a blind eye to drug transactions on their networks. my office is using targeted wiretaps, arrest and searches throughout the bay area to stem the flow of drugs and dealers coming into san francisco from nearby counties. >> the fbi, atf and several other agencies are involved in this new operation. officials say they've already brought federal charges against more than 30 suspected fentanyl dealers in the last four months in an outbreak of tuberculosis at a contra costa county casino is leading to a warning from the health department to the public. >> officials want anyone who spent time at the california grand casino in pacheco anytime in the last five years to get tested for tb. yes, five years. the bacterial infection can live inside of the body for months, even years, without symptoms. ten related cases from staff and customers dating back to 2018

we'd like to get a little more respect. >> blanche richardson says her family owned business. marcus bookstore in oakland deserves better. after a puzzling smash and grab burglary on sunday, the crime was caught on the store's security cameras, showing a well-dressed person breaking the window, then helping themselves to some reading material. >> and then when you look at him, how calmly he just takes the books out of the window and then walks away, richardson says the suspect stole only four books and used this 10 pound piece of asphalt to bust the window. i can't explain that, except that the window was $1,200. the books were about 80. i don't know. i don't think he was on drugs. i don't think he was drunk. he was black. so hopefully he's not a hater. >> during the break in, the thief also broke this stained glass panel, created by blanche's brother, billy. >> well, yeah, i'd take it personally. somebody destroys your artwork. you. you you'd have to take that person. but

since it's a family business, all our parents are kind of shared. >> billy and blanche's parents opened the store in the 1960s as one of the first bookstores in the bay area to feature works by black authors. she says there have been other break ins at her store in the past. >> you know, it's the wild, wild west out there right now and it would seem that people don't expect any consequences. and so we're just, you know, another target burglaries in oakland appear to be on the rise. >> oakland police say as of november first, there's been 14,764 burglaries in the city, 11,138. this time last year. and for all of 20, 22, 11,687. blanche says so far, opd has not responded to the police report she filed online. she says the fbi was helpful several years ago when the bookstore received threatening phone calls from out of state. >> they took immediate action and are collaborating with the

opd to see if we can find this guy. >> the fbi's san francisco bureau confirms it is in contact with bookstore owners in oakland, cornell bernard, abc seven news. >> marcus books is certainly a local treasure for sure. well, when we talk about building a better bay area, we have to include affordable teacher housing as a goal. this is becoming a priority for some school districts which say it's one of the keys to retaining educators and staff to abc seven news reporter lyanne melendez is here and leanne, they really just can't build this housing quickly enough. >> no, you know when you have that problem right in front of you and you suddenly realize, oh my gosh, i should have done something about this years ago. that's the that's the situation we're in. you know, there was a time when teachers could afford to live here. now, some have been forced to become super commuters, and that is not sustainable. another problem is that without affordable housing, you just cannot attract teachers. so san francisco has three projects in the works and more are needed. the

affordability crunch is all too common for many teachers in the bay area. >> i have not been able to just be a teacher. i also have to pick up side jobs. >> that's because a large number of educator households in cities like san francisco spend nearly half of their salaries on rent. that's a problem when trying to retain them. the school districts have seen that when educators don't feel like they can afford to live in the communities that they teach, that it's difficult for them to be attracted to new jobs and to keep them in the jobs that they already have. >> i feel like all teachers that live in their school area like benefit from being so close, not only from like getting to know the community at like a very personal level, but also to be able to represent the community. >> but not so long ago, some local communities and teachers themselves rejected any proposals to build teacher housing. take dianne feinstein, an elementary in the sunset district when it was built in 2005. the plans included a 45

unit building for teachers and staff, the us department of housing and urban development. hud was ready to provide some funds, but the community and then supervisor leland yee opposed it and it was never built. >> they said, oh, it's a public housing project. never let hud get involved. you know, it will be a slum. >> now, san francisco is trying desperately to catch up. the old francis scott key annex in the outer sunset district will now be the shirley chisholm village, 135 units, a lottery, applications for teachers and district staff will be available early next year. it was supposed to be completed by 2022, but the pandemic set them back and is now set to open in late 2024. teachers will be able to stay in their units as long as they are employed by san francisco unified. and by your monzo in the mission district street vendors stand in front of what may be a once in a lifetime opportunity for teachers to finally own property. this old

abandoned building on mission and 18th streets was once an appliance store until the mission economic development agency meda purchased it. we see a lot of folks displaced, like having to move out. >> and at the end of the day, we don't get quality teachers like, you know, being in saying in san francisco, the mayor's office of housing and community development has now set aside $12 million to begin converting the building into 63 units comprised of two and three bedroom below market rate condos for teachers to be completed by 2025, 2026. >> so for aa3 person family making, say, $99,000 a year, that would equate to about 359,000 for a two bedroom condo going forward. >> the intention is for these condos to always be affordable for teachers. so that means there will be restrictions on the resale price of each condo. there are plans to build more

housing on this parking lot on franklin street, a block from the school district. it will be another rental property for teachers and staff. the land was previously owned by the state, the same nonprofit developing the shirley chisholm village will manage the construction of 75 affordable rental units to qualify, the household income must be. between 42,000 and $160,000 a year. >> we are the pillars of change that help other folks become pillars of change. i was born here in san francisco. i'm a native. i grew up here for these. this is my home and i am not able to live here. affordable housing would be so helpful. >> now other cities in the bay area are confronted with the same issue, right? how to build more affordable housing to keep teachers here. now mountain view passed a bond measure to build 123 units which will be ready in 2024. the salaries in that district range from 75,000 to

homeless housing the fiona garrett and soma house hotels are located on seventh street near minna street. mayor london breed says the updated hotels will bring jobs to the south of market and help san francisco's economy, which is of course strongly tied to tourism. these hotels were used to shelter unhoused people during the pandemic. mayor breed joined japantown, that is japantown. community leaders for a ceremonial first walk over the newly renovated pedestrian bridge along webster street in san francisco. the bridge crosses over gary boulevard and links two vibrant neighborhoods japantown and the fillmore. >> initially, the plan called for tearing down this bridge behind us. but so many folks in this community felt like this bridge was really about bridging gaps, about bringing community together. and in fact, they not only propose holding on to this wonderful bridge which seniors use as our kids at rosa parks

elementary uses, folks cross that bridge regularly. >> the renovation is part of what the city calls the geary corridor bus rapid transit project. it's the sfmta's plan to expedite bus traffic along geary to better serve the 55,000 people who drive or use muni's 38 line to commute along geary between the salesforce transit center every day. >> turning our attention to the forecast now and we have showers coming up soon. >> i know it's a little weird kind of milky out there in the sky. sandhya yeah, it is indeed. >> and that's because we have some high clouds out there right now. kristin and julian, we do have an opportunity for some wet weather. but in addition to the high clouds, we are seeing a layer of smoke. what makes it difficult to see is the fact that we've got these high clouds streaming in. but there is that layer of smoke from our mount tam cam. so if you are seeing it, don't be surprised. and it's reportedly a prescribed burn in china camp state park. according to the san rafael fire department, our air quality is in the good to moderate range

right now as we look at live doppler seven, you will notice some cloud cover. these are the high clouds we're watching, but a few sprinkles are showing up around mendocino county. the main energy with this system is staying to northern california. it's all in association with a cold front that is bringing the pacific northwest and far northern california some showers. there's another system behind that one. and once again, the energy initially aimed at the pacific northwest with a series of these systems, atmospheric rivers. but we will get a piece of the energy over the weekend. here's a live view from our sutro tower camera. and you can see just filtered sunshine out there, 74 degrees in the city. it is really mild in oakland, mountain view, 70 right now, close to 80. in san jose, 76. in palo alto. we already saw some 80s earlier in the day. and from our san rafael camera, notice the hazy skies right now. upper 70s napa, santa rosa, fairfield. it is 81 degrees right now in livermore, well above average from our east bay hills camera. we're looking at the high clouds as we look

out towards mount diablo. high clouds tonight. fog is back in the morning. we're looking at cooler weather this weekend with a chance of showers and a reminder, daylight saving time ends fall back sunday morning or saturday night before you go to bed so that front that we were just talking about on live doppler seven will pretty much stay up to the north, fall apart. we're not expecting rain out of it. but here in the bay area, we'll continue to see those high clouds. and then tomorrow morning, fog is back in the picture along the coast. more showers coming in to our north tomorrow night. the better opportunity for some wet weather coming in here over the weekend and your morning temperatures in the 50 as we will see a mild start and a mild to warm day with numbers ranging from the upper 60s to the low 80s. a mix of the sunshine and the high clouds. now we're going to look ahead to your weekend plans. so saturday evening, you see the wet weather beginning to arrive at 5 p.m. to our north. by 7 p.m. it's in the north bay. and then really, we have to wait until early sunday morning before that wet weather starts to possibly slide further south

of its repeated content recommendations aimed at teens. now that includes content that idealizes body weight, social aggression and intimidate fashion. youtube has found that some visitors excuse me, some videos can become problematic for teens if they view them over and over again. the fda has proposed a ban on a food additive that's commonly found in soda that that additive is brominated vegetable oil, best known as bvo. it's used to keep citrus flavors from separate, putting in some beverages. recent studies have shown it's not always safe for humans and can cause health problems if consumed. california has already taken steps to ban bvo. bad news for retailers as we head into the holiday shopping season. the national retail federation expects sales will slow this year. now they predict sales to jump about 4% this month and

of san francisco. the drug has the power to save lives amid what's likely to be the deadliest year yet for the fentanyl crisis in the city. >> abc7 news reporter tara campbell captured one of these life saving efforts on camera. she joins us live in the newsroom now with a story you'll see only on seven tara. >> yeah, kristin, i spend a lot of time in the tenderloin and that surrounding area and i'm always ready to pull out my phone to record video. and on this particular day, i was able to catch something that we so often only hear about one of these life saving moments as sheriff's deputies on the scene of a potential overdose at san francisco's civic center. >> he's got a good heartbeat. >> deputy barry bloom trying to decide whether to give a woman narcan the life saving nasal spray that can reverse an opioid overdose. >> there's no need to give her narcan because she is speeding, talking and breathing. so we're probably going to call her an ambulance just to make sure she's okay. and i was with her. >> she's my she and maybe offer

weeks ago. you were just in court. back now with the latest. you got it, julie. >> you know, veteran defense attorneys tell me it was very unusual for an unhoused person to be jailed for causing a public nuisance. but that's what happened in this case in san francisco. superior court, 46 year old joseph adam moore gave our camera an extended one finger greeting. he's facing charges of obstructing free and comfortable use of liberty and property or being a public nuisance, the convicted child molester said up camp across the street from a catholic grade school in the richmond district. more than a year ago and recently posted a sign free fentanyl for new users. his attorney tells me that sign is why moore came to the attention of authorities. >> there is a first amendment issue to this signs. it's not like anybody actually saw him giving mass or fentanyl to anybody. he doesn't. he didn't have any meth or fentanyl on him . >> were you giving away fentanyl? was that just a joke? >> no, i it's not a joke. moore told me two weeks ago that unhoused people sometimes gave him fentanyl in exchange for

blankets or food, and that he passed the drugs on to other homeless who wanted them more recently had a confrontation with a parent from the school and now faces a misdemeanor battery charge for that st. >> he is also under probation after firefighters and station 31 got a restraining order against him. the prosecution asked the court to keep moore in custody while his case moves forward. we are dealing with an individual who obviously is a registered sex offender who has now violated the law in multiple ways, is and is really causing an issue near a school with young children. >> and so we want to be very mindful of the surroundings of where his conduct occurred and make sure that we are keeping the community safe. >> judge vaiyapuri granted the request, saying while the city is extraordinarily empathetic to its unhoused, we offer untold amounts of services. there is a limit. so when there's a public nuisance issue, this court has to take it serious. lee moore's attorney tells me the two

let's take a look at live doppler seven, kristin and julian. you will notice a lot of high clouds, right now as a cold front is passing to our north. a couple of sprinkles are not actually reaching the ground in the north bay, but not out of the question for mendocino and lake counties tonight. temperatures tomorrow afternoon similar to today, upper 60s to the low 80s. the biggest change you're going to notice is the fog is back along the coastline. but we'll hang on to that mild to warm weather saturday. it's cooler onshore breezes pick up sunday even further cooling expected and that continues as we head into monday. so i want to kind of give you a quick idea as to what's going to happen next. front over the weekend will bring an opportunity for some wet weather saturday night into sunday for the bay area. it's saturday night, north bay, sunday for the rest of our region. and then monday, this computer model still wants to keep it unsettled. the other computer model, not exactly in agreement for all of this time period, but keep in mind that we have chances for rain. so the accuweather seven day forecast featuring the mild to warm
