the world today over the conflict in the middle east. >> there was a large one in paris and demonstrators once again marched through the streets of london in washington, dc. there was a rally near the white house where people called for a cease fire and these large crowds were for an international day of solidarity with the palestinian people. protesters are seeking to end israel's bombardment of the gaza strip, now in its 29th day following that deadly attack by hamas. abc's seven news reporter tara campbell was there when they gathered in san francisco, making a plea for peace. >> the palestinian flag waving in front of san francisco city hall. thousands gathering saturday calling for a cease fire in the middle east. >> it's a heartbreaking to see all this going on and to see especially what's going on in the gaza territory. all these children and all these mothers losing their kids. >> we are hoping that there will be a cease fire in gaza because ultimately they need to see a cease fire signed be the protest

that as an arab muslim student at stanford, i never imagined becoming the victim of a hate driven attack, he claims as he walked to class. a car driven by someone who was reportedly shown animosity toward his community in the past struck him intentionally. his hateful screams of you and your people still echo in my ears as i grapple with the emotional pain. this incident has left in its wake. the student is recovering from his injuries in the hospital. >> it was a hate crime. it was an absolute violation of his ability to exist as a student on campus, police say. >> the student described the driver as a white male in his mid 20s with short, dirty blond hair and a beard wearing glasses. the suspect vehicle, believed to be a black toyota forerunner 2015 or newer with an exposed tire mounted to the rear center and white california plates with the letters m and j. in a statement, stanford's president and provost condemning the crime, saying, we are profoundly disturbed to hear this report of potentially hate

based physical violence on our campus, violence on our campus is unacceptable. hate based violence is morally reprehend able and we condemn it in the strongest terms. on friday, a campus safety alert went out about the hit and run, saying additional security has been deployed to locations on campus, including where arab muslim students are in their second week of a sit in demanding the university condemn israel's siege on gaza. but students criticize the university's slow response. >> its complete, highly irresponsible. for like an alert to have taken so long to come out. >> it's ridiculous and it the school needs to do better. >> stanford says it sent the notice as soon as there was enough information from chp. stanford's jewish hillel center reacting with this from rabbi jessica kirshner. whoever is found responsible should be held fully accountable for their actions anti-semitism and islamophobia are rising on our campuses and in our country. it is imperative that the

university ensure that all minority populations are protected and that there is zero tolerance for hateful speech, actions and violence on the stanford campus. cornell bernard , abc seven news. >> all right. we want to turn now to the weather and there is some rain in the forecast, so let's get right over to spencer. kristen, who's tracking it for us tonight. >> all right, zach, there is rain in the forecast and it may last more than one day. here's a look at our exclusive abc seven storm impact scale showing that the approaching system ranks level one, which is a storm of light intensity. so for tomorrow into monday, we're expecting scattered light showers or light rain, slippery roadways and breezy conditions. rainfall totals will be under a quarter of an inch for most, in fact, just a few hundredths of an inch for most locations. here's the forecast animation showing that overnight into the morning hours, we'll see little pockets of light rain moving mainly through the north bay. but later in the day, it'll shift southward. a bit and those scattered showers may hit all parts of the bay area going into tomorrow night and continuing into monday as a matter of fact. but by 11:00 tomorrow night, we'll see maybe under a 10th of

an inch of rain generally across the bay area. but more is on the way. on monday. so those totals will grow a little bit. and as it's raining here, it'll be snowing a little bit in the sierra as there's cold air accompanying this storm system. it'll produce about 1 to 2in of snow in the highest elevations of the sierra. so this is not a major snowstorm, but it's early in the season and it's sort of nice to see snow falling on november. what is this, fourth, fifth? i'll have the complete accuweather seven day forecast a little bit later. >> zach all right spencer thank you so much. new at 11 alexis gabe's family held a memorial for her today in plymouth. it was one year ago that the oakley woman's remains were found in the sierra foothills. she disappeared in january of 2022 when visiting her ex-boyfriend in antioch. he later died as police moved in to arrest him in washington state, four people are recovering after a police chase overnight in san francisco . that chase ended with a car crashing into other vehicles, including a waymo car carrying multiple people. it happened near the mission district. chp

says at around 11 p.m, officers were chasing a silver sedan going westbound on the bay bridge when it then exited on ninth street. the car then crashed into two other cars at the intersection of folsom and 11th streets for four people, including two pedestrians, were injured and taken to the hospital. a witness says his uber ride was also hit during the chase. >> both caught the brunt pretty hard, i think. man, if you got five cops chasing you, stop like like the cops didn't do anything wrong. they had their sirens on. they were trying to box him in. you know, we were just caught in the crossfire. >> officers say the waymo was carrying passengers, but no one in that car was hurt. abc7 news has reached out to waymo about the incident. the santa rosa man accused of stabbing and decapitating his relative is now behind bars. officers say they arrested luis gustavo arroyo lopez this morning at the transbay transit center in san francisco. an sfpd patrol officer spotted him and took him into custody without incident.

investigators say the suspect killed his relative, mutilated the body and believe he left the scene with the victim's head. well, officials, community leaders and artists are celebrating the clean up effort that expanded over blocks long in downtown san francisco. just in time for apec. it was all part of a beautification project that included the completion of an expansive new mural more than 8600 plants were added to celebrate the transformed version of the once barren blocks in downtown san francisco. the mural artists spoke about the impact of artwork. we can put beautiful murals and enlightened pieces and contact points for people to learn about our culture and tell our stories. that's what really makes people believe in their neighborhoods and connect and take care of the spaces. >> and i've seen it happen all over. wherever i've traveled. officials say the project has transformed the area to a welcoming gateway to yerba buena gardens and moscone center for apec. >> visitors, as while still ahead on abc7 news at 1140 nights of work in three days there's a big freeway closure

. well, san francisco's department of public health marked five years today since it began charging a soda tax. a free community celebration was held at florence fang community farm. it featured healthy food tastings along with gardening games and demos. the soda tax has raised over $3 million annually and that money is donated to programs that promote health, community and wellness as well. happening now, it's busy on freeways and around the tri valley, and that's because southbound 680 from dublin to sunol was shut down due to construction. this is just one phase of a multi year project that's underway. but will it reopen ahead of monday morning's commute? abc7 news reporter anser hassan has the details. >> saturday evening traffic backed up quickly from san ramon into dublin as four lanes merged into one in the works. a three year project which includes repaving a three mile stretch of southbound 680 this weekend between dublin and sunol. >> we wanted pretty much condense about 40 nights of work

into just a weekend. >> pedro quintana with caltrans says crews are working around the clock this weekend to upgrade the far right lane. friday night, crews ripped out the old pavement saturday night. they began laying down the new foundation. >> if you go out there on that road pavement, you understand that that road has reached its end service life right? we hear it from motorists and we also hear it from other people who live around the bay area. >> quintana says shutting down the freeway makes it safer for crews to do the work and possibly quicker as of saturday night. he says they're on schedule to complete the work before for monday morning's commute. >> that concrete porch is about 12 hours to solidify. once it's all said and done, we do the cleanup and we do the striping. then we we'll be ready and on schedule to reopen southbound 680 by the monday morning commute. >> caltrans says the entire i-680 80 express lane project between dublin and sunol will also add new lanes to both sides of the freeway, including express lanes. it's estimated to

be completed by early 2025. in pleasanton, anser hassan abc7 news. >> the city of san ramon is celebrating the 40th anniversary of its annual light parade. look at that. the family friendly event draws spectators of all ages to see the illuminated floats. and this year's parade has a birthday theme to it. there were plenty of floats, dancers and bands and clubs brightening up the night sky. the parade started down camino ramon and finished up near the civic center on bishop drive, ave and ski and snowboard season is right around the corner for lake tahoe resorts. the tahoe region experienced a good amount of snowfall last month and resorts are busy preparing for the 2324 season heavenly ski resort and boreal mountain are preparing to open up their slopes on november 17th, with other tahoe resorts opening up their doors soon after. we know so many people get excited for this season coming up and already some good snowfall. hopefully it'll be a good season in the long term. >> well, there are some preseason snow on the way, sort of like preseason sports, you know, the light snow is headed

that way right now along with light rain coming our way. so let me get to the maps and i'll show you what's going on. here's a satellite radar composite image showing a fairly vigorous storm system moving into the pacific northwest. some of that rain is actually moving to the northernmost part of california. it's not hitting us yet, but the trailing edge of this system, a couple of frontal systems will move through the bay area over the next couple of days and we will see some light rainfall here starting overnight tonight and going into tomorrow right now, the wind is calm. generally a little bit farther to the east there out towards fairfield is sort of breezy, but nothing very gusty at the moment. it is, however, significantly cooler right now than at this time last night. about 6 to 10 degrees cooler in some locations. and on we go to a live view from the explorer camera right across the embarcadero from abc7. looking back toward the cityscape, we're in the mid to upper 50s right now in san francisco. oakland 56. low 60s at mountain view, san jose. palo alto and 50 at half moon bay. here's the view from emeryville looking back toward san francisco and you can see some light clouds off in the

distance there. but right now, skies are mainly clear. it's 57 degrees up north at santa rosa, 54 novato, napa, 59, 61. fairfield 59 concord and 55 at livermore. and it's a nice clear and calm view looking across the embarcadere row from our rooftop camera. these are our forecast headlines. clouds will increase overnight with a few north bay sprinkles beginning to develop. light spotty showers will then continue through the day tomorrow and into monday. and don't forget to fall back to standard time tonight or tomorrow morning. whenever you choose to reset your clocks. the approaching system on the exclusive abc seven storm impact scale is a level one storm scattered light showers mainly is what we can expect. slippery roadways, breezy conditions. we expect rainfall totals generally in the first wave of this system to be under a 10th of an inch. but generally under a quarter of an inch for the two day event. so here we go. overnight forecast animation starting at midnight, clouds will thicken and we'll see spotty showers or light rain moving mainly through the north bay in the morning hours later in the day, we'll

see the system sweep southward a little bit farther, producing some showers down in the south bay as well. again, these will be widely scattered, generally very light showers, but there will be some wet spots for sure. and as i mentioned, rainfall totals by late tomorrow night will be generally under a 10th of an inch. but of course, those totals will increase going into monday. overnight, low temperatures here mainly in the low to mid 50s. high temperatures tomorrow mid to low to mid 60s at the coast, upper 60s to about 70 around the bay shoreline, only low 70s inland tomorrow where today we had low 80s. now let's resume the forecast animation at midnight tomorrow night into monday, another wave of rain. light rain moves into the bay area and that'll bring us that'll increase our totals just a little bit. and enough cold air is going to accompany this system to produce some light snow in the sierra going into monday and tuesday. now, again, this is not a major storm we're talking about 1 to 2in, but snow will fall in the sierra nonetheless. here's the accuweather 70 forecast. light rain tomorrow and monday. then going into tuesday, we expect it

who's more than 150 people have died and hundreds more are injured after a strong earthquake struck a remote part of nepal. the reported 5.6 magnitude tremor happened overnight about 250 miles north northeast east of the capital, kathmandu. the quake felt as far away as india's capital, new delhi. abc's lama hasan has the story. >> the devastating earthquake striking a remote area in western nepal just as people were sleeping on friday night. i was fast asleep when all of a sudden it started shaking violently, this man says. i tried to run, but the whole

house collapsed. the 5.6 magnitude quake was so strong, tremors were felt as far away as neighboring india's capital. new delhi. more than 500 miles away. the quake destroying homes and buildings, cutting off communication to many villages. rescuers rushing to the area, using helicopters and ground crews. people were even digging with their bare hands, hoping to find survivors. but access to some areas was difficult. the earthquake triggered landslides, blocking off roads. so the prime minister announcing medical personnel and supplies were being flown in to reach the injured. and residents now terrified of sleeping indoors are spending another night in the open. earthquakes are common in the mountainous country. in 2015, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake killed about 9000 people and damaged roughly 1 million structures. lama hassan, abc news london. >> new developments tonight on the hollywood actors strike. a deal might be in sight. a new

offer by the studios was delivered to the actors union on friday. say the terms of the offer are under seal, but the studios say it's their last and final offer since the summer, pressure has been mounting on the entertainment industry to get back to work. the actors union has been on strike for 114 days as well. a police raid on a small new england home found $8.5 million worth of psychedelic mushrooms growing inside. the discovery was made in burlington, connecticut, which is a small community outside of hartford. a tip led investigators to the home where they found a growing operation producing hundreds of bags of what they called shrooms. now, the mushrooms were reported as in various stages of growth. lee hornfischer, who walks by the house daily, noticed something about the home just seemed off. >> were running air conditioner was, you know, when it was a cold day, you know, which didn't seem right. they had air conditioners in the top windows there and also in the front of the house. >> an observant neighbor there, a 21 year old man has been arrested and charged with

running a drug factory and possession with intent to sell. well, today, a mural was unveiled for a san francisco native killed by a vallejo police officer. sean monterrosa was from bernal heights. and today, friends and family and neighbors gathered at the corner of 24th street and south van ness avenue where the artwork memorializing him was revealed. >> really just to honor the life and legacy of our brother sean. and what better way to do it in our neighborhood, with our community that we love and hold really near and dear to our hearts? >> anybody can see themselves in the mural and be like, that could have been me. i could have been out that night, you know, and at the end of the day, police violence happens all across communities. but specifically sparking that conversation within the latino community to stand up and also get involved in this fight with us. >> monterrosa was fatally shot in 2020 by a vallejo police officer. that officer was fired but got his job back after an arbitration hearing while a recent report from the new york times claims cruises, self-driving cars aren't as autonomous as previously thought

lucy spacecraft during its first asteroid flyby. it happened on wednesday when lucy zoomed by the asteroid named dinknesh. its located between the orbits of mars and jupiter. what astronomers found is that dinknesh is really part of a binary system. two space rocks instead of one. the lucy team believes the larger asteroid is a half mile wide. the smaller moon like rock, is orbiting it. lucy's main goal is to be the first to explore jupiter's trojan asteroid swarms. it's not going to reach those until 2027. very cool. well, close to 8000 people are currently unhoused in san francisco and many live in their vehicles and find places to park throughout the city. abc7 news reporter luz pena spoke to a woman who became homeless this year and now sleeps in a hearse with a casket on top. luce has a story you'll see only on abc7 news.

full time job and housing. >> she had a nice apartment up there. we had a two bedroom, two bath and it just fell apart. when i after i had my surgery in august, she bought the hers with her savings, costing her $3,200. >> she did it to avoid sleeping out in a tent. >> once you close it with all the curtains, it's pitch black. the fun part is if you're parked somewhere and as you come out in the morning, somebody sitting behind you, it freaks them out. oh i wasn't expecting you to come out of the hearse. >> her optimism and the hearse are what got her her latest job at the seasonal spirit. halloween store where she first came in as a customer. so this is where it started? >> yep. i walked in and i was talking to sarah, the manager, and got hired on the spot. >> we had the idea of using the hearse to promote the store and it really brought a lot of people in. she's a great salesperson. >> julie parks, the hearse right outside the store when they've needed someone to work extra hours. she has been ready. >> knock, knock, knock. and she's like, let's go. >> just last week i was working

right well spencer christian is here with the weather and that forecast has some rain in it. >> it's going to be wet zach for a couple of days. not continuously for two days, but two days worth of spotty rain. here's a look at our exclusive abc seven storm impact scale. so a light level one storm is coming our way tomorrow and monday producing scattered light showers, pockets of light rain, slippery roads, breezy conditions we expect under a quarter of an inch of rainfall generally. here's the forecast animation for tonight and overnight into tomorrow. notice these little pockets of rain moving through the north bay, mainly until about midday tomorrow. then some of them will start moving southward through the south bay as well with a little bit of a break before another wave of rain comes in on tuesday on monday, rather, overnight lows tonight will be mainly in the low to mid 50s highs tomorrow. low 60s at the coast, upper 60s to about 70 around the bay low 70s inland where today we had highs in the low 80s now resuming the forecast animation tomorrow at midnight going into monday morning. notice another wave of rain coming in on monday. that'll add to the rainfall

turning orange just the cowboys fourth win in the last 20 years what a scene there. the city of oakland is not giving up in its quest to keep the a's in oakland . now the city is organizing a rally tuesday afternoon at oakland city hall and they're hoping a's fans show up in mass. the expectation is that the city council will vote, approving a ballpark with the mayor, city council and port of oakland all in support, sending a message to baseball owners showing the fan support is here in oakland. now the problem remains as a's owner john fisher, who refuses to invest in the team and is now trying to convince officials in las vegas he won't be as cheap as he's been in oakland. our casey pratt had an exclusive interview with oakland mayor shang tao on friday. >> we want to be transparent, not only with the ownerships that will be making the decision, not only with the commissioner, but also with our fan base and with our constituency to really show them that actually we have, you know, committed every single step of the way, including getting more funding for the oakland a's. and
