to come here in february of 2025, about 15 months away. that announcement officially made by the nba earlier today show you some video. adam silver, the commissioner, was in town flying in for this very special announcement, joined by team owners joe lacob and peter guber, the mayor of san francisco, oakland, san jose, all here anticipating a weekend of really fun activities all around the bay area in february of 2025. >> it's my honor, my pleasure to announce that the 2025 all star game will be held here in san francisco at the chase center. >> and our own steph curry, hopefully is in this in this this game gets to play for the first time hopefully in front of his home fans. and so that would be one of my great wishes for it and i would just say to our fans here in the bay area for the all star festivities in 2025, this will be the epicenter of basketball around the world. >> i know our fans from everywhere love coming to this market. they love being part of the excitement here. all the great things that this market

numerous events happening not just in san francisco but around the bay area. >> whether it's the dunking contest or the three-point contest or the game itself and all the events, parties activities during the formal announcement, local leaders stressed this is about more than just a fun weekend. >> once it's over, they expect about $350 million to be pumped into the economy. >> the generation of hotel stays, restaurants, taxi cabs, uber rides, all are just a big uplift. >> rodney fong is the president and ceo of the san francisco chamber of commerce. he says the nba choosing to host the all star events locally is another example of the region's ability to host major sporting events in 2026. both the fifa world cup and the super bowl will be held at levi's stadium in santa clara, largely because of the number of hotel rooms. >> we have largely because of the arenas and sports centers and convention space that we have. >> the excitement wasn't contained to just bay area officials, though, outside of chase center, nba all star fans

a big deal this is from global decision making to major air traffic disruptions as well. but let's move on quickly now to touch base on the forecast. abc seven news meteorologist sandyha patel is here. sandy, a good bit of rain. any more coming? >> yeah, we have a few more showers coming through here. dan pretty much north of the bay area. i want to show you live doppler seven and you will notice where the wet weather has been focused today. we've had some spotty showers in the santa cruz mountains. the south bay and even parts of the north bay. as we take a look at the wider perspective here, you will notice that there were also thunderstorms north of the bay area and in the sierra nevada, the sierra still seeing some snow showers at this hour. and we take you in and show you the rainfall totals over the last 36 hours, about a half an inch in ukiah. santa rosa picking up 2000/900 of an inch. kent field about a quarter of an inch, five hundredths in san francisco, oakland, san jose, 707 inch. you'll notice livermore about

20/200 and ben lomond in the santa cruz mountains over a half an inch of rain. if you're noticing a little bit of mugginess in the air, it feels a little muggy. you're not imagining things. the dew points are in the 50s which is muggy for our taste. you will notice that 50 to 59 degree range now compared to 24 hours ago. those temperatures are running lower, are anywhere from 2 to 10 degrees. you know what that means? it is going to be a chillier night. so we go into 11 p.m, a few more showers up around the northern part of our viewing area, 40s and 50s on those temperatures years. and we will be back to talk about the sierra snowfall in just a little bit. dan, very good, sandy. >> i see you in a few minutes. a wild scene along interstate 880 in oakland caused a slowdown for drivers this afternoon. maybe you got caught in this. the oakland fire department says a car careened off the freeway and plunged into the canal that runs along northbound 880. sky seven was over the scene this is near the high street exit close to the oakland swap meet. you can see a tow truck was ready to take the car away after it was

plucked from the water. our crew on the ground caught the moment that happened. the driver was treated at the scene. it's unclear what caused them to drive off the freeway like this. oakland firefighters say some oil from the car got into the water, but not enough to cause any environmental concern in oakland police. meantime are investigating a really outrageous robbery attempt at an ampm convenience store. surveillance video shows the moment early this morning when thieves crashed a backhoe into the window of the business. look . is that the craziest police say the core of that backhoe came dangerously close to hitting an employee. actually, the video shows several attempts to pull the atm through the broken window, but thieves did not succeed. it takes some skill to operate a backhoe successfully a short time later. video shows two men pull up to the store in a white truck and try to hook a chain to

the atm. well, that didn't work either. the suspects took off before police arrived and they just could not get their act together. thank goodness. new developments in the search for answers in sonoma county and a homicide there. the head of a decapitated woman has been located, ed, grisly, i know. and we've learned that she was the grandmother of the suspect who is now under arrest. santa rosa. police identified the victim as 64 year old elvia lopez arroyo. her body was found last thursday in a house on pomo trail. the suspect was arrested saturday in san francisco. that same day, police found the victim's head on the bank of the santa rosa creek. 20 to 23 year old luis gustavo arroyo. lopez has been charged with murder and is being held without out bail. just a shocking crime, obviously. vallejo police say a homeowner shot and killed a burglar who broke into their house today. it happened on georgia street near montgomery, which is only a few

blocks, monterey, i should say, which is only a few blocks from vallejo pd headquarters. when police got there about 945 in the morning, they found a man who had been shot. that man died on the scene. police say this is all still under investigation as they sort out exactly what happened. berkeley police say they shot and killed one of three suspects in a car burglary today. the other two were arrested. it happened before dawn at seventh and grayson streets. abc7 news reporter leslie brinkley takes you through what happened. >> berkeley police got a call at 5:26 a.m. about a car burglary underway at seventh and grayson in west berkeley. patrol cars responded quickly. >> an officer involved shooting occurred and one of the subjects on scene was transported to highland hospital and has since succumbed to their injuries. >> police said no juveniles were involved, but they did arrest two other adult suspects here and no police officers were injured. police won't confirm

how many officers fired at the suspects or if the suspects were armed. they said officers and paramedics tried to administer cpr to the suspect who was shot. bullet holes were evident in the windows of the black suv and there were questions about whether that suv had tried to ram into patrol cars. >> that is still part of the investigation right now, that they're still trying to figure out. >> streets were closed for several blocks in both directions into the afternoon. in some cases, people were able to access offices and an urgent care clinic nearby. this man was on his way to a painting studio right after the shooting happened. >> i worry about theft and i worry about anything happening right now on scene. >> we have the district attorney's office working alongside berkeley police department homicide division and the coroner, alameda county coroner's bureau has also responded to the scene to help with the investigation. >> this is the second officer involved shooting incident in berkeley since september before

pound wolf dog named shadow who escaped from his santa rosa home over the weekend and was on the run. >> maybe i was worried about he can get shot or hit by a car. i don't know, something. but he didn't attack any animals. >> arturo says not only did shadow escape his yard, he actually nudged open a latch similar to this one and opened the gate and took off. >> when i get in to give his food, he runs a back of me and i stand up on the gate and open with his mouth. >> shadows weekend out caused a flurry of calls to police from the public. some drivers grabbing video of him running on highway 12 near sebastopol, about eight miles from his home. rangers from california fish and wildlife helped in the search. a doorbell, camera in santa rosa capturing neighbor's reaction when shadow was apparently seen walking down the street out there's a dog. >> it's a big one. >> we've gotten some mountain lion calls and we had the bear call in petaluma, but never a

wolf. yeah, that's a big guy. >> officer emily crum says she wasn't sure what to think at first, but her north bay animal services team helped corral shadow. monday morning, with the help of arturo's two pet huskies , arturo, now grateful to everyone who helped bring shadow home. >> thank you for the help. thank you for the agency, the police and animal services that helped me to get him back. thank you so much. >> by the way, in sonoma county, it's perfectly legal to own a wolf hybrid dog like shadow. cornell bernard, abc seven news. >> now, there are a lot of myths regarding wolf dogs, for example. some people think wolf hybrids make better guard dogs. well, the reality is wolves are pretty shy by nature and are poor protection dogs. plus, there aggressive tendencies can make them a bit unpredictable. another myth. huskies and malamutes are part wolf fact. they're both just breeds of dogs like any other. so now we know.

all right. let's move on and talk about the weather forecast. meteorologist sandhya patel is here. sandhya rained a good solid couple hours or more in my house last night. yeah >> dan it was coming down at my house as well last night and today we did have some slick roadways, i should say, for the morning commute. it made for a rough commute. obviously for those that had to drive in it. dan and as we take a look right now at a live picture from zephyr cove, it is a little breezy up there. they have been seeing some snowflakes. tahoe is now reporting flurries and it is 35 degrees. so obviously, it is starting to get colder there. and we're looking at the sierra nevada right now where they are seeing snow. it has been falling at the highest elevations. most of today, but the snow levels are starting to come down right now. chains are required on 80 and 44 and 88 at this hour. so definitely is starting to turn a little bit on the wintry side. and we do have a winter weather advisory until 10 p.m. tomorrow

night for the west slope of the sierra. up to five inches of snow, gusty winds, snow level will be dropping 5000 to 6000ft in the morning. so lake level and below, believe it or not, but not a whole lot of moisture left as we head into tomorrow morning. right now on live doppler seven, you can see it's pretty quiet. a few sprinkles while to the north, the air quality behind the system that came through and brought us the rain. look at this. good air quality for most of you. moderate there in san rafael. and a live view from our kgo roof camera. i do want to show you the air quality forecast out the next three days. you can pretty much count on good air quality. we are expecting it to remain very pleasant as we take a look at those temperatures there still in the mild zone, low 60s from san francisco to oakland, san jose, 56 degrees in palo alto and it is 57 right now in half moon bay from our emeryville camera. this is what you're going to have to deal with tomorrow morning during the commute. some fog will be on the move and we will be seeing fluctuate in visibility. so 52 degrees right now in santa rosa.

it's poor visibility on the coast at this hour, 56in napa in the upper 50s from fairfield to concord and 56 degrees in livermore from our golden gate bridge camera. the roads are still slippery from the showers earlier today, isolated showers remain in the forecast through late tonight. a chilly morning with fog. we are looking at sunny and breezy conditions for the afternoon and colder mornings midweek with a chance of showers on friday. so let's go hour by hour, 10:00 tonight around mendocino county. we're still looking at a couple of showers possible there. and then as we head towards your morning commute, what you're going to have to deal with is areas of fog. visibility will be poor and there are a few more showers showing up off the coastline here. but those showers, the computer models, the latest ones keeping them off the coast and then they just dissipate. so for the rest of your day, you are going to notice that there is plenty of sun out there for your tuesday afternoon. soon your morning temperatures in the 30s to the 50s. it is certainly going to be chillier out there than it was this morning. so a good idea to grab a jacket

before you go and allow yourself extra time as that fog with the reduced visibility will make it slower going for you. now let's look at the minimum temperatures the morning temperatures for wednesday, they're coming down even more. upper 30s start to show up. look at this. thursday's your coldest morning mid to upper 30s in the north bay valleys. some of the east bay valleys will be looking at some 30s as well. so frost is possible. definitely be prepared for that, especially if you have any sensitive plants. afternoon highs tomorrow breezy along the coast, low to upper 60s but wall to wall sunshine for your tuesday. here's a look at the hourly wind forecast picking up at 4:00 pm 25 to 32 miles an hour along the coastline. and that pretty much stays in place for the evening hours. your accuweather seven day forecast, we're going to go with morning fog. then sun comes fillled morning on wednesday. mild afternoon with some 70s popping up with increasing clouds and a chance of some showers on friday. definitely is going to be a nice looking weekend. temperatures near average and then a little cooler and

cloudier on monday. dan when i come back, we're going to talk about the extended outlook and that is showing a strong storm. so it could be a real wet one next week. all right. >> that'd be great. nice start to the rainy season. all right. let's turn now to building a better bay area, san francisco is getting some extra help and not from the usual folks. you would think that local leaders would turn to try to solve problems like crime and homelessness. but last weekend, hundreds of engineers got together to tackle those problems using ai, artificial intelligence. abc7 news reporter luz pena has the story. could ai save san francisco? >> hundreds of engineers are hoping for that. >> we started working on this back in august. we decided to reach out to a number of organizations and shefs public sector to find problems that to find challenges that we can attack solutions for. >> that's when accelerator sf was born, a project to identify problems in san francisco and build ai solutions over the weekend, more than 100 engineers

and people with specific areas of expertise got together for a hackathon to help san francisco. >> so we really want to make sure that like this one has an impact on sf. >> during the two day hackathon, 22 projects were developed with three winners that could reshape how the city works. >> first place was 301 plus, which is an incredible tool where you can just take a photo of if your car had a break in. it takes metadata from the photo to say where and when automatically fills out the form for you. >> a key tool considering that there have been more than 17,000 car break in incidents this year so far in san francisco and many go unreported. second place allowed homeowners and developers to enter an address to check for the expansion potential or adu eligibility. third place, an ai tool to make reporting property crimes easier and more accessible. city attorney david chu was one of the judges at the hackathon. >> you had a bunch of folks who literally thought overnight of what to do, and by sunday

stocks ticked up slightly today. it comes after the market had its best week of the year last week. here's a closer look at the closing numbers. the dow jumped 34 points to close just above 34,000. the nasdaq climbed 40 points and the s&p 500 was also up closing the day above 4300. a problem with america's banking system that started friday is continuing this week. a human error is causing delays with people's direct deposit paychecks. payments that didn't go through last week have to be re sent. and that process can take time. a clearinghouse is a private operator says it's

working with banks and the federal reserve to get this issue ironed out, just as soon as possible. banks are assuring customers all of their funds are are secure and some starbucks employees are about to get a raise, as the company announced today. it is giving a 3% pay bump to non union employees starting january first. they'll also be eligible to accrue vacation time sooner. unionized employees will get whatever pay raises that were locked in last year with their contracts. out here in california, half a million fast food workers will get a raise next april. that's when the state minimum wage jumps to $20 an hour. today, donald trump took the stand in his fraud case. see what prompted the judge to lose his patience with the former president. plus, today's operations by israeli forces in gaza setting the stage for what could be the deadliest phase yet in the war with hamas. another half hour of news coming up

is israeli forces launched attacks by air and on the ground. now severing northern gaza from the rest of the territory, setting the stage for an expected push into gaza city, further intensifying the month old war with hamas. tonight israel is claiming its forces have killed another hamas leader who reportedly plotted the october 7th terror attack on israel. it comes as the death toll in gaza reaches a grim milestone. and israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu says that there is a dire prediction that he anticipates. abc news reporter ines de la cuetara is in jerusalem. >> according to the hamas run palestinian health ministry, more than 10,000 palestinians have been killed in gaza, more than one third of them children since the israeli military retaliated against the terror attack by hamas that killed nearly 1500 of its people. as

preparing to make their cases to voters. trump once again not attending. while the biden campaign insists it's not worrying about polling and insists biden will win reelection in 2024, the trump campaign is praising former president trump's rising numbers, saying it's building a state level operation to win the republican nomination and defeat joe biden. justin finch, abc news, washington. >> california's attorney general is urging the us supreme court to uphold a law that bars gun possession for people with restraining orders for domestic violence. the supreme court hears arguments on the case tomorrow. today, a state attorney general, our state attorney general, rob bonta, released a report that found death is 12 times more likely to occur in a domestic violence case if a gun is involved. bonta says people with a history of violence should not have firearms. violence is not an accident. >> it's also not inevitable.

it's not something that is unpreventable. it can be prevented. bonta says the law barring people with domestic violence, restraining orders from gun possession works since it was enacted in 1994, california saw a 61% drop in domestic violence deaths involving firearms. >> tonight, we're looking into the effect racist text messages sent by a san jose police officer could have on a 2022 shooting case. the man shot by the officer is now demanding criminal charges. abc7 news reporter zach fuentes with what the man and his attorney are calling for and what could happen next. >> we get a glimpse into the mind of a police officer this individual police officer, attorney adante pointer is representing kion green. green was shot by a now former san jose police officer in 2022. outside lab taqueria. green says he took a gun from someone who was part of a fight inside the restaurant. officer mark mcnamara shot green as he was backing out of the restaurant

with the gun he took away. >> i went in there to help. i came out looking for help, seeking help from officers, people that are supposed to help me, only to be shot and almost killed. >> now, text messages uncovered by a san jose police internal affairs investigator show what officer mcnamara wrote to fellow officers. the message is dated one day after the march 2022 shooting and said in wanted to carry a gun on in the wild, wild west. >> not on my watch. >> the texts released by san jose police chief anthony motta friday go on to find mcnamara making even more racially charged statements, including one that says he hates black people. the city of san jose has faced a civil rights suit since the 2022 shooting. >> so much of a civil rights case depends on what the officer's state of mind was. >> legal analyst steven clark says those messages could be used to paint a picture of the officer's state of mind.

>> i think that creates a whole new view of this case on many levels. and you will see certainly for the civil rights case that these will be the centerpiece of the case to show this officer acted differently because the person that was shot was african american. >> though officer mcnamara resigned and is no longer an sapd officer, green and pointer are calling on him to be decertified so he can never bring his racial animus to bear in the community again. as for green and pointers, calls for mcnamara to face criminal charges, clark says it's not out of the question. >> the way he responded in a text, messages and other avenues was really inappropriate. and i think that will be key in what the da does next. criminally with this officer. >> we asked for an interview with police chief motta monday following green and pointer's press conference. we were told that he was not available and no further comments could be made since the matter is pending litigation and now being handled by the city attorney's office in san jose. zach fuentes, abc seven news.

>> a woman accused of a lake tahoe murder and attempted murder has pleaded not guilty. samantha scott is due back in court november 27th after a judge denied her bail in court today. she and former mlb player danny seraphine are accused of shooting seraphine's in-laws back in 2021. his father in law died. his mother in law was severely injured and died earlier this year. a verdict today in the trial of the captain of the scuba dive boat that caught fire off the california coast in 2019, killing 34 people. jerry boylan was found guilty of misconduct or negligent neglect of a ship officer. he faces ten years in federal prison. this verdict comes years after the deadly fire aboard the conception, which was anchored off the channel islands. 33 passengers and a crew member died, all trapped in a bunk room below deck. boylan was the first to abandon ship and jump overboard. the federal trial for the man

charged with the attack on nancy pelosi's husband starts this week. the man was caught on video over a year ago breaking into the pelosi's home in san francisco. abc7 news reporter stephanie sierra was in court all day as jurors were selected. >> 12 jurors and two alternates will be selected to decide the fate of david depape, the man charged with federal assault and attempted kidnaping after breaking into the home of former speaker nancy pelosi last october and striking her husband, paul on the head with a steel hammer. today, jurors were asked to answer questions on a wide range of topics, including whether they are represented by congresswoman pelosi. if they had supported her campaigns or have ever expressed opinions about her on social media. this is the time for people to express their bias. >> this is the time for people to truthfully say how they feel, what we really fear is that people will hide those views and say they can be fair when they really can't. >> adam gassner, a 22 year veteran, federal criminal defense attorney, says this is crucial to ensure a fair trial.

but the reality is san francisco has a wide variety of people that are for and against that family in general. several jurors admitted they could not remain impartial given the media exposure or other preconceived notions they had about the case. and the former speaker is one potential juror candidly responds to one of the questions, saying pelosi deserved harsh treatment while others said they could still remain impartial despite expressing frustration over their stock trading, arguing the pelosis have privileges they use for financial gain. >> so if somebody is critical of the pelosis, it shows a bias and they're perhaps not a good juror for this case. a public defender representing depape has argued that the extensive media attention, as well as pelosi's popularity in san francisco, will prohibit him from getting a fair trial in the city. >> this is why his defense team tried to move the trial to eureka. but the judge denied that request. gassner says it's too soon to tell if juror impartiality will be an issue.
