bridge going into san francisco today. >> and with more rallies or demonstrations in the city ahead tonight, san francisco police chief bill scott is laying out his department's game plan. >> the message is this, though, and i just want to reiterate this criminal activity will not be tolerated. and if anybody thinks that they're going to come and protest or in the name of protest and hurt somebody else or commit crimes or destroy property or light fires, that will not be tolerated at all. so i just want to reemphasize that we will do it constitutionally. we will respect everybody's rights. >> chief scott says the city is expecting up to 20,000 people, including hundreds of ceos and close to 1000 media members. we now go to abc7 news reporter tim johns here in studio with us with how the city is hoping to capitalize on all of this energy. tim. yeah >> now on the streets of the city, there's a palpable energy these days as it seems like almost everyone is getting ready for apec. of course there will be dozens of events happening at the summit itself, but outside

of the confines of the moscone center, the city will also be very much alive. san francisco is gearing up to host its biggest international event in decades. but away from the diplomat and heads of state gathered at the moscone center, other important events will be happening around the city, too. >> i think this is a real opportunity for the city. it's certainly an economic opportunity for 30,000, upwards of 30,000 people are going to be coming here and they're going to be going back and telling their stories about what they saw. >> supervisor rafael mandelman is spearheading one of those events at bow, a gay bar in the castro cleverly called gay peak. mandelman says it's aimed at lgbtq apec attendees, many of whom come from countries where gay rights are little to nonexistent. >> but we thought that there if apec is going to be happening in san francisco, it's got to be gay, it's got to be queer and we're trying to give have a little bit of that for that week. many of the events happening are more than just fun things to do during the apex summit, though, several of the organizers tell me they're also

a way to promote san francisco and our values. >> while also pushing back against the doom loop narrative that's taken hold in both the national and international media. perhaps nowhere is that more true than in chinatown. one of the city neighborhoods hit the hardest over the past few years. we have shows at the clarion with the grand avenue follies. >> we have of disco music going on out, you know, on grand avenue next week. >> stephen lee owns several small chinatown businesses. he says there are dozens of events planned in the area throughout the apec summit, starting with an asian night market this weekend for people who are visiting, they'll find a new and unique flavors that are unique to san francisco chinatown. >> but they could also hopefully feel like they're home. you know, a taste of familiarity across town supervisor joel engardio is also planning ways to push back against the doom loop narrative taking place on the last day of apec. >> his summit two sunset happy hour and bike ride aims to show

>> all right, let's move now to the north bay where plans are in motion to bring a margaritaville resort to the bay area. yeah, the same ones made popular by the late jimmy buffett, a so-called camp margaritaville would be located on the southern end of lake berryessa in napa county. abc seven news reporter j.r stone joins us live tonight with new details. j.r. it's important to note that what was approved tuesday is a negotiating deal. >> so basically it allows the developer representing the margaritaville hotels and resorts group who is local to work with the county to try to come to an agreement on a resort over the next two years. a big task since this is a $95 million investment from the margaritaville group, according to county officials who spoke about the project, will have think about a 50 slip marina will have gas docks, restaurants , rv parking cabins. >> we're not locked into a specific number of cabins or a specific number of slips. >> what is being proposed here is dramatically smaller than

what was there in 2000. whatever. when the previous resort shut down. >> and not a lot of folks believe that we would get here. and we are so to me, i look at anyone that wants to do business in this area as an incredible opportunity to make sure it's done fair, responsibly. and it's a win win. >> the area on lake berryessa that we're talking about is the steel canyon resort area. it's on the southwest side of the napa county lake. you can see it here on the map. and in the picture, margaritaville hotels and resorts has properties all across the country, including four here in california for community members who spoke at tuesday night's meeting are very concerned about this project. >> that just doesn't seem like nature based recreation to me. the very idea of something called margarita ville in napa county is kind of cringe y. >> i am blown away by this. the size of this, that that's a city that's not rural recreation.

a well-deserved tribute on the 57th annual cmas. it was one of the highlights of the awards you saw right here on abc seven tonight. the tribute included kenny chesney, the zac brown band and a member of buffett's band. one of the biggest surprises of the night was song of the year and receiving the award for the song of the year goes to fast car. >> isn't that cool? >> tracy chapman won the award for a song. she released three five years ago. fast car. the song, as i'm sure you've probably heard, covered by luke combs this year, who also won an award for it. the awards held in nashville are hosted by luke bryan and peyton manning. we are back, and you know what that means. >> yep. travis and taylor weren't available. exactly >> that's kind of funny. the biggest winner of the night was louisiana singer lainey wilson, who took home five awards. it was a good show, but one of the biggest strikes of the summer is

over. >> self-driving robotaxis hit another huge speed bump in san francisco and some good news if you're planning to drive for your thanksgiving holiday. >> all of that and more is making up tonight's jam packed abc7 news to know. >> take a look. after 118 days on strike the screen actors guild and major film studios have reached a tentative agreement. the deal boosts actors pay from streaming services and sets up new safeguards for using ai. it all still needs to be officially approved by the union, but as for your shows and movies, the hope is this new contract could see hollywood back up and running within weeks. >> san francisco based cruise is voluntarily recalling its entire autonomous fleet. it's to fix software bugs with its collision detection subsystem. a cruise robotaxi recently ran over a woman crossing market street after she had been hit by another car. california's dmv already suspended cruise's self-driving permit last month, a big blow at next door, laying off 25% of its workforce or about 200 employees.

you know, everybody has different facets of who they are in their history and i also really wanted to come and show up for the other veterans, too. >> joseph grijalva joined the army when he was 20 years old. >> when i was growing up, i was getting a little bit of trouble. okay, so this guy that lived across the street from me was a vietnam veteran, and he convinced me to join the army because you're just getting in trouble. why don't you just join the service supervisor? >> otto lee was the guest speaker. >> i want everybody to know that us here, santa clara county, we really do care about our veterans. >> lee is a 28 year navy veteran . he first served during the gulf war and in 2008 was deployed to iraq, where he helped plan and execute the largest drawdown of troops since vietnam. lee presented each veteran a certificate of appreciation. >> they don't get to stay at home, right? these are folks who come to work every day dealing with this pandemic. and this is the type of selfless service that we see. those who have served our military, those who have served in the hospital. so

these are true heroes in our community, other local veterans recognized included steve van decaro, a former infantryman in the army who went to west point in 1972 and spent 30 years in uniform. >> fondacaro helped bring the first standdown event to santa clara county in july. standdown is a two day period that brings all the veteran services and providers to one place supervisor lee said. stand down will now be held in the south bay annually in san jose. lauren martinez, abc7 news. >> and tomorrow the county will celebrate another big step to help veterans. the purchase of the veterans housing facility off alum rock avenue in san jose. the county plans to expand the housing for homeless for homeless veterans while enhancing services for the more than 50,000 veterans in the south bay. >> new developments on what is becoming a tense diplomatic battle over pandas. after five decades of giant pandas in our nation's capital, the three pandas from the smithsonian

national zoo are now on a plane back to china. it marks the end of more than 50 years of chinese pandas being housed at the zoo. they are part of china's loan program meant to serve as a symbol of friendship between china and any host country. but with relations between the us and china on shaky ground currently, the program fading here in the united states might indicate a diplomat shift. >> you get just so attached to them and so invested in them, but i'm sure they're going to have a good life overseas. >> zoo staff are calling it a hiatus. however, chinese officials have yet to say whether the program will continue. now, as for the trip home, if you're wondering how the pandas are being cared for in the long flight, the plane is stocked with all kinds of panda friendly snacks, including more than 200 pounds of bamboo. 313 pounds of biscuits, both leafy and low starch. there are also apples, carrots, sweet potatoes, sugar cane and more on the in-flight menu. >> they will, of course, be very well cared for. a lot of people very sad to see them go, of

course, but they'll be okay. all right. let's turn our attention now to the weather forecast. cool in the morning. that's right. >> let's get to abc7 news meteorologist sandhya patel for what to expect. sandhya >> yeah, it's going to feel like the winter chill has already arrived tomorrow morning. ama and dan. as we take a look at those numbers right now, it is already chilly outside 39in novato, 41 in half moon bay. many areas in the 40s tomorrow morning are coldest spots will be down near freezing in places like ukiah, lakeport, santa rosa 36 degrees napa you're dropping to 3537 in livermore half moon bay bundle up. it is definitely going to be colder than it was this morning. but don't worry, by the time the apec summit gets underway this friday, those temperatures will begin to come up mostly cloudy for visitors coming into san francisco saturday. we are looking at sunshine. milder weather still mild in the city on sunday and dry, but that's going to change next week. cloudy and cooler on monday. rain spreads on tuesday. it's a wet day wednesday and

looking at another round on thursday, those temperatures will also be coming down. so hopefully everyone is prepared for what is looking like impactful storms coming our way next week. this system looks really impressive on live doppler seven, but all the energy is going to go into the pacific northwest. we're going to get a front that is the tail end of it and it's going to fall apart. so we're really not expecting much on friday of this week. right now on live doppler seven, all is quiet. here's a look at the climate prediction center and what they're saying for next week between november 14th and 18th, tuesday through saturday, above average precipitation out west, below average for the central and eastern portion of the country. now, the likelihood of it being above average, it's even higher than it was just about a week ago 60 to 80% chance. so be prepared, ed, and there's even the possibility of some moderate to heavier rain coming our way thursday. that is beyond the accuweather seven day forecast

the bay area. of course, is a long and rich history of breaking ground in the music industry. and tomorrow night in marin, the world premiere of a new documentary on the rich history of a legendary local radio station. >> roger, nine fiver. this is ksan san fran, cisco. >> the film is called something is in the air, a rock radio revolution version. it tells the story of ksan, jive 95, a pioneering fm station that hit the airwaves in the bay area in 1967. jive 95 was the place to hear new music and provocative journalism as well. i spoke tonight with one of the filmmakers, jim draper. jim, it occurs to me that for people our age, you and me, this will be a bit nostalgic. but for younger people it will be eye opening and educational. >> that's what we really hope we're trying to make a
