>> those same demands being echoed right here in the bay area. protesters in san francisco keeping it peaceful but loud during apec, opening new channels of communication. >> president biden and china's president xi jinping establishing a dialog during a face to face meeting at and as quickly as it went up. >> construction began at pier 15 and the exploratory. oriam all pretty much clear this morning. so that opens up traffic along the embarcadero. but now there is another section in the city facing road closure as okay. >> well, that was a magical transformation, wasn't it? quick they were busy up and down. >> you know what else was magical? those presidential fireworks? >> oh, you got to see them. >> oh, my gosh. wow i was having dinner at kokkari and minding my business, enjoying. and we're like, what is that? and we all walk outside and the best firework. >> wow. >> i said, come on, president biden, i love the fireworks. >> okay. >> didn't see it or hear it. >> yeah.

>> okay. we'll tell you later. okay >> good morning. we do have a little bit more rain in the forecast. so those heavy showers we had yesterday evening, we have a pause on that. then there's more scattered showers coming our way later on this afternoon and this evening. there's a couple of isolated showers right now, mainly working through the santa cruz mountains and in parts of marin county, the higher terrain there. but for most of us this morning, we're waking up to overcast skies and awaiting our next round of showers. now, the round coming later today. not as widespread as what we experienced yesterday evening. the best chance, again, will be later today in the evening. but these showers are more scattered in nature. it's a level one, a light system on the storm impact scale. so future weather, let's go hour by hour, midday, we'll actually see a fair amount of sunshine breaking out. but then we'll see those clouds build back in. and here come the scattered shower chances starting around 4 or 5 p.m. and lingering through about 9 p.m. again, they're not widespread, fred, but we will be seeing hit or miss showers move through later on today. so pm scattered showers, a mix of sun and clouds, midday temperatures

mainly in the 60s for daytime highs and we have better rain chances coming our way tomorrow and for the first part of our weekend, we'll talk about that coming up in a few minutes, guys . >> thank you, drew. good morning , everybody. we are going to start with the richmond-san rafael bridge where the sigalert remains in effect here. this is week six of this. we have the three westbound lanes of 580 blocked and we do not have wide load vehicles allowed in this area still. so we will continue to track that for you. the san mateo bridge here, live picture where everything is moving at the limit. and then we will end with a look at our drive times for our major bridges, the bay bridge is still right on time, even though we have that westbound lane blocked due to apec. the eastbound lane is still blocked as well and i'll be back in the next half hour with some more detailed instruction on the closures today. if involving apec. >> thanks, jobina. president biden is in for another long day in san francisco for apec this afternoon. he's expected to speak at the final day of the apec ceo summit. salesforce ceo marc benioff and tesla's elon musk are also expected to be

there and to speak later tonight. president biden will be delivering remarks and participating in the indo-pacific economic framework, family photo and ending the night. the president and first lady will host the apec dinner at the legion of honor museum. that event means new street closures for the day streets near the museum will be shut down to traffic. you are advised to avoid this area early this morning. >> president biden is touting what he's calling important progress in us china relations after his marathon face to face meeting with chinese president xi jinping. it happened at the woodside by lowly estate. both men are greeted by protesters as they arrived to that venue yesterday morning. clearly, not all these protesters share the same views because we did see a scuffle. abc seven news reporter lena howland has more on what was discussed and the new agreements between the two leaders during that four hour meeting. lena reggie, good morning. >> two major agreements came out of yesterday's meeting. the first was a new push to crack down on the export of fentanyl

and the second, an agreement to resume military to military talks. president biden came out of yesterday's meeting sounding optima mystic, saying they had some of the most constructive and productive discussions they've had so far. military to military communication has been cut off since last year after congresswoman nancy pelosi visited taiwan. china had suspended those talks in retaliation. >> so we're back to direct, open, clear, direct communications and on a on a direct basis is vital miscalculations on either side can can cause real, real trouble with a with a country like china or any other major country. and so i think we're made real progress there as well. >> as for the fentanyl agreement, the two countries agreed to work together to curb the flow of the precursor chemicals for fentanyl and administration official had earlier said china is going to

directly go after specific companies that are producing those chemicals. and back here live along the embargoed area where president biden's apec party was held last night, you can see crews are actively working right now to tear it all down. they've taken down that billboard and a lot of the street closure signs on top of those black barriers that were lining the embarcadero yesterday . and really for the past two days, those have just been taken down really within the past hour or two this morning. so for now, we'll toss it back to you guys. >> there was really no wasting of time for those crews. thanks so much, lena. there is a positive sign the meeting went well at his dinner event last night. xi jinping announced some pandas could be coming back to california. san diego zoo a little over a week ago. some of these giant pandas were returned to china by the national zoo in washington, d.c, the san diego zoo returned their pandas to china in 2019. panda diplomacy dates back to the 70s, when a pair of pandas were gifted by

beijing. there are only four pandas left in the us. they are at the atlanta zoo, and they're supposed to be going back next year. >> this morning, the barricades coming down along the embarcadero, as lina just told us, dignitaries from around the world attended the official apec reception for president biden and first lady dr. jill biden at the exploratorium. the speakers there included vice president kamala harris, governor newsom and warriors head coach steve kerr. abc seven news spoke with former senator john kerry, who is the first us special presidential envoy for climate. he says coming together now is more important than ever. >> we have the middle east in flames. you have ukraine, you have the challenge of the climate crisis and we all need to pull together. there is no way for any one country to solve any one of those problems, let alone all of them. >> now, this was a moment in one part of president biden's speech . he mentioned governor newsom

and might have alluded to his future political ambitions. >> i want to thank him. he's been one hell of a governor man. matter of fact, he could be anything you want. he could have on the job. i'm looking for. >> well, for the job he's looking for is the presidency. he's running again. 2024 to the public. governor newsom is firmly and repeatedly denied any chance he would go for the white house next year, but potentially he could run for president later outside the exploratorium, two demonstrators were arrested as they came right up to the front of the security gates to shout their message to the high profile guests inside fighting. >> biden you can't hide. >> we charge you with genocide. >> we charge you in genocide. >> protesters shouted at police and people attending the gala. they're demanding president biden do more to stop the conflict in the middle east. >> we are here to say that we need an immediate cease fire to

violent. but the video tells a different story. officials say at least six officers were hurt and at least one protester was arrested for assaulting an officer. southern california congressman brad sherman says he was among a number of congressional leaders forced to evacuate the building with neither side, neither the right nor the left should engage in criminal behavior, attack police or even disrupt other people's meetings in gaza. israel is now claiming control of the nine building al-shifa medical complex. israeli forces say troops uncovered proof hamas was holed up there. abc news could not independently verify those claims and israel has not yet provided evidence supporting its allegations that hamas has tunnels under the hospital. sources tell abc news, the us and qatar are making progress toward a deal calling for a cease fire and for hamas to release at least 50 israeli hostages in exchange for israel releasing dozens of jailed palestinians. but sources say

israel and hamas differ on how long that ceasefire could last. hey, drew. >> hey, joe. being a 510 this morning, we're looking at live doppler seven along with satellite. and you can clearly see that cyclonic flow as those clouds swirl around this area of low pressure off our coastline. another chance of showers later on this evening before this low will finally move onshore late friday into saturday and continue those rain chances in the extended forecast. right now, we're waking up to mostly cloudy skies and isolated shower in parts of the south bay this morning. but for most of us, it's a mild start to the morning, mid and upper 50s. as you get out this door, the door early on our thursday morning outside, a live look from the exploratorium camera. we're dry from this vantage point, but we do have mostly cloudy skies. we'll see a bit more sunshine right around lunch time. temperatures in the mid 60s and then later on this afternoon, soon by about 4:00 pm and later into the evening, that's the best chance of finding a scattered shower. it's not out of the question. we could also hear a clap of thunder later on this evening. the southern half

to crash a flight headed for san francisco. lawyers for captain joseph emerson released a statement and it says emerson texted a friend he was having a panic attack. the letter says emerson thought he was dreaming or was dead or in purgatory. the statement goes on to say emerson tried to wake himself up from the dream and did not intend to harm anyone. emerson is facing 83 counts of attempted murder. he reportedly hadn't slept for 40 hours and had taken psychedelic mushrooms in today's gma first look. >> a woman who survived the sinking of a tour boat in the bahamas where an elderly woman drowned is speaking about this ordeal. here's abc news reporter eva pilgrim. >> in this morning's gma first look panic in paradise. >> yes, our boat is sinking. >> the death of an american tourist now, now under investigation after a colorado woman died in a bahamas boating accident. everybody's freaking out. you're watching the moment this double decker ferry tuesday morning with more than 100 people in route to the popular blue lagoon island began taking

on. kelly schissel survived the sinking recording this video showing the boat leaning to one side. and this morning she's telling her story to gma. >> i was on the side that started to sink so that's when we realized, oh, this probably isn't good. and then a crew member ran up the stairs to the top level and grabbed herself a life jacket. and she was crying and freaking out. >> and coming up at 7 a.m, we'll have the very latest on the investigation into why the ferry sank with your gma first look. i'm eva pilgrim, abc news, new york. >> in the east bay oakland unified parents are being warned about a new phone call scam. the school district says the calls are fake. scammers are targeting parents, telling them their child has been kidnaped and they demand a ransom. some have been pretty realistic, including childlike voices in the background telling someone that you've kidnaped their child and that you're not going to give them back unless you unless that

person gives them money. >> and so that's a really grotesque thing to do to anybody . >> the district sent out an email with suggestions of what to do if you receive one of these calls, especially write the phone number down and other traits of the caller. then call the school and call police. police want to remind parents if your child is absent, the school will call you. ten years ago this week, the city of san francisco came together to help make one child's wish come true. yes abc seven anchor ama daetz brings us back to that make a wish moment and caught up with the now teenager known as batkid . >> recognize this teenager for what? if we take you back ten years? we begin this morning's broadcast with breaking news from san francisco hall of justice. i bet you know the name now, batkid, aka miles scott. it has been ten years since his wish transformed san francisco. i'm doing amazing. >> i would love to just say like, yeah, i'm fine now. >> 15 years old, miles plays

football and baseball and helps on his family farm in siskiyou county. he's come a long way since battling leukemia as a child. >> i feel normal, but every time i think about it, it's like, wow, that actually happened. that was four years of my life. >> miles was just five years old when make-a-wish greater bay area granted him his wish to be batman. you got football out, batman never really, like, fades away. >> he's always coming back. he doesn't have all the super powers or any super powers, but he's still going out there and saving people. that's what i like about him. it gives people hope without any superpowers, it sure felt like the city of san francisco had superpowers on that wish day, as crowds cheered miles on as he fought crime across the city. i do remember one part in that whole day going to that burger shop and looking down in the window, and they're

all dancing with signs and stuff . i'm standing there by batman. why are they dancing? they're dancing for you, miles wish come true and granting wishes is what make-a-wish does for so many children facing a critical illness that bruce and hope you have the wish you know, you're you're done. you can't stop you anymore. >> all right. that kid, it was an incredible day. >> you were here. >> yeah. tell us. >> no, i was not. i had not gotten here yet. i had arrived just a few months later. okay. a way back when. and i work weekends together and she me the full breakdown of it because she's very involved with make-a-wish. so this was months of planning and they really just expected like maybe like a few thousand people to come out. tens of thousands of people came out and they knew exactly the route the car would be taking. the cheering them on. i would really implore you to watch the documentary. i think it's called batkid begins. it is really good

and it is really cool how they planned it all together and how much happiness it brought him that day. it was really nice. >> oh, my gosh. and ama showing her pop up on the screen. >> i was like, i'm a daetz breaking the news. any batkid where are you? >> i need to say this. he is cancer free. yes, yes, we love that. >> awesome. >> yeah, that's good. i remember people were talking about social media, their memories of it yesterday and how cool it was to be in the city. so good for him. it's good to see him healthy and thriving. that's very neat. live doppler seven this morning showing you. we do have an isolated shower chance right in the south bay. most of us are dry, but we're just seeing a couple of drops moving through, let's say sunnyvale. this morning, an isolated raindrop around evergreen and san jose. but for the most part, we're starting out today, mostly cloudy, dry in most areas. the main event today is later on. but this is going to be scattered showers, not as widespread as we saw yesterday in the evening, but we'll still have a chance later on today. and there's a chance, an isolated chance of a thunderstorm popping up. so let's plan out today and tomorrow for you. here are

future weather by about three, 4:00 pm. we're seeing scattered showers move in from the south impacting the peninsula, the east bay, the south bay lifting off to the north by about 6 p.m, working their way into parts of marin, napa and sonoma county. and really, that's about it. this is not a long duration event by any means. rainfall totals will be on the light side, but for the evening commute, we'll have some drops falling as you head into friday, friday starts out dry, but then that low pressure begins to move onshore. so friday afternoon, rain returns to the forecast and then it's on and off, not only friday night, but through much of the day on saturday. rainfall totals today. on the lighter side, some areas could pick up a quarter of an inch where we see a downpour. and then we'll add to these totals tomorrow evening as well with another round of showers and that low pressure moving onshore. so today it's a mix of sun and clouds and we'll track those scattered showers in the evening. temperatures mainly in the 60s, then close to midnight, we're done with this round of showers and numbers mainly dropping into the low and mid 50s. here's the accuweather seven day forecast in the next seven days for you. scattered evening showers today continue that trend tomorrow. now the latest data we have looks like

this next round and in the overnight hours, we are pretty quiet. so today we'll start out with a blend of sun and clouds. later on this afternoon. in this evening, still a chance of some scattered showers. temperatures mainly falling into the 60s. kumasi >> thank you, drew. this morning, reaction coming in after that face to face meeting between president biden and chinese president xi jinping. they covered a wide range of issues during their four hour discussion in woodside, even announcing some important agreements. abc seven news reporter lena howland live in san francisco this morning with details on those agreements and the new interview this morning with national security advisor john kirby, who's traveling with the president. lena kumasi that's right. >> in in that meeting, they did talk about a wide range of issues covering things like trade to taiwan to fentanyl. and earlier this morning, john kirby, a spokesperson for the national security council, just talked to gma, giving his reaction to this meeting. and he

talked about how a one for hour meeting may not solve all of the military tension between these two countries, but it was a signal step forward with two primary agreements coming out of it and really two big deliverables. >> one coming out of this meeting knowing that the military to military communications will restart at various levels, not just at the top, but down to the theater commander level and below. and number two, getting that agreement to have the chinese crack down on law enforcers and the export of these chemical ingredients that make fentanyl a huge, huge achievement. there's a lot more work to do, military to military talks between the two countries were cut off originally one year ago after congresswoman nancy pelosi visited taiwan on. >> as for fentanyl as for that fentanyl agreement that you just heard kirby mention, the two countries agreed to work together to curb the flow of the precursor chemicals for fentanyl. an administration official had earlier said that china is going to directly go

so legion of honor drive will be shut down today, through tomorrow because of that dinner. and also, clement, between 33rd and 42nd will be closed as well. this will also, according to the sfmta impact, muni riders in the outer richmond area. so you want to make sure to check the schedule and see if those reroutes as well. and also the recommending to walk or bike. if you need to get a little further into the city to catch your new and updated route. also tonight, the good news is that the embarcadero has reopened. we saw lena show some of that video earlier in our show, but we still have a game at chase center, the warriors are going to be taking on oklahoma city tonight at 7:00. a reminder that your game ticket is good to take mass transit, specifically muni to chase center. and that works throughout the day if you want to use it to get to that area. and then tomorrow night at 730 is when the miss lauryn hill concert is supposed to start. now we know that you can arrive a little later to that one westbound lane, one lane closed on the bay bridge. still still

for the eastbound lane as well. and then we will end here with just a reminder that the fifth street and fourth street off ramps are closed as well. that will all reopen tomorrow for the end. it is over tomorrow night at 9 p.m. reggie, thanks, jobina the meeting between president biden and china's president was the headline maker yesterday, but there are many other meetings involving high level leaders happening, including one between governor newsom and canada's prime minister, justin trudeau. >> they had a conversation on the sidelines of the summit. the main topic was fighting climate change. first lady jill biden received a showing of support and gratitude when she attended a fundraiser in atherton. an activists created a human chain of roses, thanking the bidens for their ongoing effort to free the israeli hostages held in gaza and in the castro local leaders held what they called gay, celebrating the asian american pacific islander and lgbtq plus community. this took place at the dance club bow, a featured drag performances and was attended by asian american leaders. >> while the city of san

happy about this. jobina is at the live desk with the details of the inaugural event. that is going to be like anything unlike anything f1 has done before. oh yeah. >> kumasi. so a star studded ceremony kicked off the first ever las vegas grand prix. formula one transformed the city into a racetrack. drivers will hit speeds topping 200mph, weaving past the venetian caesars palace and the bellagio. the track loops around the msg sphere and down the strip. formula one ceo hopes the events and race will boost the local economy by $1.7 billion. that tops expectation. as for when the super bowl comes to town in february, but not everyone is cheering. many locals are frustrated with the course blocking some access to the strip. grandstands are blocking the famous fountain at the bellagio right now and ticket prices, which approached $700, are said to be falling fast. some hotels are also reducing room rates. earlier this week, formula one apologized for the
