into the east bay, stranding many commuters in their cars. we continue the story now with team coverage from abc7 news reporter anser hassan. he spoke with commuters stuck in the traffic jam and explains how it even jeopardized important surgeries. he joins us live from the bay bridge toll plaza. hi answer i'm a good evening. >> the good news there haven't been any toll plaza problems for the past few hours. a big change from the massive traffic jams that we saw all morning. but as of right now, now the bay bridge is all clear. it wasn't the morning commute many were expecting nikema randall was on her way to work in downtown oakland. i'm going to go through emeryville and then try to get to downtown. you tell your bosses you're going to be late. >> my boss is on the phone right now. i'm like, okay, what's happening? emeryville police spent hours directing traffic as the on ramp to westbound 80 was closed because of the protest that shut down the bay bridge. >> some commuters tried their
5:06 pm
luck on city streets but were also stuck. what's this traffic been like for you? >> well, for me, it's been hell. >> lydia navarro spent 2.5 hours in the car. she says she's lucky she didn't have to travel across the bay bridge. >> i'm headed right around the corner, but i come from santa rosa today. i'm 30 minutes late. >> pro-palestinian protesters calling for a cease fire in gaza blocked all westbound traffic on the bay bridge during the morning commute in the backup. not just commuters. ucsf telling abc7 news that three couriers trying to deliver organs for transplants were also stopped. at least one surgery was canceled. >> so we expect there will be more problems in the afternoon with patients who are trying to arrive now for surgery. >> and then there were those who were just parked in emeryville waiting for the bay bridge to reopen. >> when people are out here honking and turning around and watching and wondering. >> teresa knight was on her way to san francisco. she exited the freeway because of a mechanical issue with her car and those few hours she was able to get her

car fixed and then just stuck waiting for the bridge to reopen when i would have had to get off anyways. >> nobody's going that way anyways. there's yeah, there's nobody getting through. it's just a dead stop. >> a chp says the bay bridge reopened around 12 noon. as for that residual traffic, you can see it's all gone. reporting live, anser hassan, abc seven news. >> all right, answer. thanks very much. now the bay bridge shutdown and several less disruptive protests were designed, of course, to grab the attention of the media and the world. leaders gathered at moscone center for apec today. and that's where abc seven news anchor kristen sze has been all day, as she has been all week. kristen, another very busy day there. >> it was indeed, dan but guess what? the official business has just concluded just in the last few minutes. let me just go ahead and take out my earpiece because i'm getting a little feedback. but yes, president biden just passed the baton

hundreds of miles away from the nearest p-g-and-e's customer at a time when they're deciding how they're going to impose billions of dollars of new costs on ratepayers. >> utility commissioners say granting the rate increase will require more accountability from p-g-and-e's. the company will be required to file annual reports on their progress, upgrading the grid. the rate increase takes effect january first in the newsroom. cornell bernard, abc seven news. >> thank you, cornell. after the break, guilty verdicts for the man who attacked nancy pelosi's husband in their home last year. how the pelosis are responding. and even president biden's reaction to the news.
