of sun and clouds for the first half of your day and then the back half into the afternoon, we'll say between 2 p.m. and 9 p.m. that's your best chance of finding a scattered shower, moving through your neighborhood . it's not widespread, but if you have friday night plans, certainly take the umbrella with you. temperatures in the 60s, a close look at this timeline coming up in a few minutes. let's check in with jobina. traffic's doing today. thank you, drew. >> good morning, everybody. we're starting in emeryville here showing you a live picture of 80. headlights are where the vehicles are traveling in the westbound direction towards the maze which is moving pretty smoothly for the most part. metering lights have flipped on at the bay. bridge toll plaza. that backup is a really past the parking lot at this point. tracy to dublin you're right is around 31 minutes so not too bad at all and of course a reminder that we do still have one westbound lane and one eastbound lane closed on the bay bridge. we'll talk about those apec traffic impacts in a few minutes. kumasi. >> thank you, joe. jobina so tsa is expecting to screen 30 million people at airports this holiday season and today starts the thanksgiving travel rush. abc seven news reporter lena howland live at sfo with more on

what you can expect if you're heading out of town in the next week. hi, lena. >> hey, kumasi good morning. tsa says today is the start of their thanksgiving holiday rush for the next 12 days. now already this morning here at sfo, we have been seeing a steady line of travelers coming in to be dropped off for their flights and heading inside the tsa is also predicting this to be their busiest holiday travel season ever, up by 9% compared to just last year. and while things might seem busy now, take a look at this. the busiest days for travel before thanksgiving are next tuesday and wednesday with more than 2.5 million passengers screened each day. but the peak day is actually the sunday after thanksgiving as nearly 3 million folks begin to head home nationwide. expert say positive impacts may last longer than just these peak travel times. the higher number of people traveling could mean a brighter long term outlook. >> even in an economy that is

certainly very unstable and very uneven for a lot of people, there is still a lot of demand for people who want to go somewhere for thanksgiving. so it's a certainly a very good sign about at least the bay area economy overall. though, many are traveling by air. >> triple a says millions more are expected to drive their predicted. they are predicting 49.1 million americans will get behind the wheel. that's up by nearly 2% compared to last year. now, remember, if you were headed out for a flight at any point during this holiday season to give yourself some extra time and get here at least two hours before your flight and right around thanksgiving, it's also an important time to remind folks that certain foods, such as gravy, cranberry sauce, wine, jam and preserves those must all be packed in a checked bag because they are considered to be liquids or gels. live in live at sfo. lena howland, abc seven

news. >> thanks, lena. president biden has a few more agenda items on his itinerary before he can get out of here in just a few hours. at 10:00, the president will host a bilateral meeting with mexican president andres manuel lopez obrador. that's happening at the moscone center. then an hour later, president biden will host the apec leaders retreat. that's where he will officially transfer the apec chair to next year's summit host, which is peru and the peruvian president will be there to accept that. at 120 this afternoon, wheels up on air force one. president biden set to leave the bay area first heading to philadelphia, then a stop in delaware for the night. >> the president scored a trade victory at the summit announcing an agreement to prevent supply chain disruptions between 13 other countries. japan, south korea, india and singapore. among those 13 apec member economies in the agreement. the deal also has provisions to combat corruption and transition these economies to more green energy. if we had this agreement

in place, we're talking about today, we would not have had to lay off so many auto workers because lack of semiconductors and many other examples. meanwhile, there was some controversy surrounding tech leader elon musk's absence from the summit yesterday. he was expected to speak on a panel about ai, but us special presidential envoy for climate ambassador john kerry took elon musk's place. apex says the official reason for the tech billionaires absence was scheduling conflicts. >> abc7 news is your station when it comes to everything apec . our coverage has everything you need to know. you'll find it on the front page of our website abc7 news.com or your abc7 news bay area app. >> a few people were injured during dueling protests yesterday at third and market streets in san francisco. critics of the chinese communist party crossed paths with supporters of china police creating a line in the middle of third street to keep opposing protesters apart. but that confronté was far from the most

disruptive of the day. you know what it was? this is a look at the bay bridge right now. a far cry from what i don't necessarily call it a peaceful protest. >> when you stop tens of thousands of people from being able to get to the hospital, being able to get to school and being able to get to work. >> that was chp talking about this. this was a protest that blocked the bay bridge for hours was signs, banners, demonstrators sprawled across the bridge using apec as an opportunity to get their message across to world leaders. >> and the reason why today was important to us is because joe biden is in town for the apec conference and we need joe biden to know that he has probably the most power in this situation. >> also stuck in the back up, at least three transplant organs that were heading to ucsf medical center. >> you want your organ to work? well, when you put it in. and the longer the organ is

preserved in between the donor and the recipient and the slower the organ wakes up. so this impacts the early organ function after transplant, the longer it's preserved. >> ucsf doctor garrett rowell also says at least one surgery had to be canceled because the patient was stuck on the bridge. chp eventually cleared the bridge around noon in a separate protest, pro-palestinian activists gathered at uc berkeley to call for a cease fire in gaza. >> the message is cease fire now free gaza. the chronicle reports there were no israeli flags or pro-israel supporters visible near this protest. new developments in the israel-hamas war. israel claims it now has proof to show that hamas has a tunnel network underneath gaza's largest hospital, al jobina. there's growing concerns about the release of hostages. >> yes, reggie's. this morning we're learning a 65 year old israeli hostage has been found dead. it's not clear how or when she was killed. as for those tunnels, you mentioned, israel defense forces released this

video to back up its claims of hamas having tunnels beneath medical facilities. it claims the tunnels lead to a hamas command post below the al-shifa hospital, where thousands are trapped with little food and water. the idf says it also found a vehicle at the hospital filled with guns, ammunition, knives and handcuffs. hamas denied those claims. the idf also says it found laptops at al-shifa containing photos and videos of hostages. secretary of state antony blinken spoke about the hostage situation and what the us believes israel should do next. we're focused on this entire closely and look, i'm hopeful that we can bring people home. >> we've been very clear that there can't be a reoccupation by israel of gaza, just as gaza can't continue to be used as a platform to launch terrorist attacks. so sources tell abc news that hopes for an imminent release appear to be less likely. >> israel and hamas remain at odds over how many hostages would be freed. kumasi. >> thank you, jobina. welcome to

extremely challenging to fully reopen. he said. the mountain side erodes daily. crews have been working to clean and remove debris that spilled over highway one during the winter storms earlier this year. since january, the cleanup effort has cut off access to big sur. >> we'll take a look at your travel forecast nationwide. we're anticipating a cold front to swing through the northeast in the mid-atlantic. that'll bring some rain showers there. a huge swath of the country is quiet, but california, we are expecting rain later on this afternoon and this evening. this low pressure finally on the move. it'll swing into northern california for late tonight, early tomorrow morning. supplies us not only with shower chances, but also a thunderstorm chance today. a big portion of california, especially along the coast, has been outlined for that chance of a thunderstorm. if one pops up, could hear a clap of thunder. we begin the morning with a mix of sun and clouds. we're dry, but those showers and storms will move in here later on this afternoon. in this evening between 2 p.m. and 9 p.m. is the best chance of finding those showers moving

commissioner telling reporters yesterday that it's nothing personal. >> i have no issue with the city of oakland or the mayor. you know, we tried very hard to make a deal in oakland and we did that out of respect for the fans in oakland. >> the outcome of the vote is extremely disappointing, not only as the leader of the city of oakland, but i know that it's going to be hard for the fans as well too. and so but we all know that there is a long way before shovels are in the ground and that there are a number of unresolved issues surrounding this move. >> there are a few hurdles that the a's have to clear. the nevada teachers union filed a lawsuit earlier this week to stop the public funding of a baseball stadium in vegas. they claim it violates the state's constitution. the a's lease with the coliseum ends after the 2024 season. >> we are less than two months away from the new year, and yelp is already predicting what we're all going to be eating, drinking and ordering at restaurants in 2024. so for drinks, it appears

yeah live doppler seven overhead were quiet this morning but we will have showers back in the forecast later on today. level one on the abc seven storm impact scale for the afternoon and the evening. let's go hour by hour on future weather. here come those scattered showers later on today. the window, we're looking at 2:00 pm to 9 p.m. to find those showers moving through. and that wet weather continues into saturday. that low pressure finally moving onshore. and it looks like all day saturday, we're in and out of those showers. so saturday, saturday, certainly the wetter of the two days this weekend. we'll get all of this action out of here by sunday. and we'll finish sunday with lots of sunshine. look at rainfall estimates, lower totals in the south bay, higher totals in the north bay. pretty typical for the storm track that we're seeing the next 36 hours. but it does turn pretty windy here on saturday. future tracker wind gusts showing you by saturday evening, we'll see winds gusting 25 to 35mph around the region today, it's all about that mix of sun and clouds. this morning. we're dry to start the day, but

skating rink. so it's at the circle of palms plaza on market street. and last year it was turned into a roller rink. but this year it's back to ice skating. there are a limited number of opening day tickets for today. there are $10 each. and once those run out, general admission tickets are available for $21. the opening celebration will be held on monday after hollywood writers and actors came to an agreement with the studio shows are coming back and this morning we're learning about the premiere dates for some of our abc shows. the third season of abbott elementary will premiere on february 7th. yes, with an hour long special, the conners and not dead yet will also air that night. 9-1-1 makes its abc debut on march 14th, then new episodes of gray's anatomy and station 19 will start the same night next at 630. the final day of apec.

live at sfo with a look at the best and the worst days to head out of town. hi, lena. hey, reggie. >> good morning to you. we're live here at sfo where we have been seeing a steady stream of travelers being dropped off all ready this morning for their flights and heading inside. and while we do know that upwards of 30 million travelers are expected to head out by plane to their thanksgiving destinations, triple a says the majority of folks will actually be driving to their thanksgiving destinations. they are projecting. 49.1 million people to get behind the wheel this year. a spokesperson for triple a told us out on the roads. this is expected to be the third busiest thanksgiving travel weekend since they started keeping track, though traffic could be a problem with that. many people out on the roads. there is some good news for drivers. we're starting to see those gas prices go down, which means if you're comparing things to last year, you're going to have some deals compared to where you were triple a also gave us the details of the best

and the worst times to hit the road. if you are driving to a thanksgiving destination. so take a look at this. if you are hitting the road the wednesday before thanksgiving, that's november 22nd, before the 11 a.m. is the best time to go. so the worst time to travel that day will be from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on thanksgiving day. your best bet will be to head out before 10 a.m. or after 5 p.m, the worst time of the day to travel on thanksgiving will be between 11 and 3:00. now for your return, friday, november 24th, noon to 4:00 will be the worst time to travel. you'll want to drive before 11 or after 7:00 pm if you want to wait until the weekend after the thanksgiving to drive home the best time to travel will be before noon, 3:00 to 5:00 will be the worst time to get out on the roads. so hopefully that gives you something to keep in mind for next week as you are preparing for this thanksgiving

remain on hold. a san francisco restaurant owner stepped in to help a group of seniors who've been impacted by apec closures. security has been really tight around moscone center. we've been telling you about that. it's been tight all week. and as a result, one group of seniors couldn't get their regularly scheduled meal delivery. so fang restaurant owner kathy fang stepped in and delivered more than 150 meals to residents. she said she felt obligated to help. >> i immediately thought of my grandparents and i'm thinking, you know, all these elderly people in their their other people's grandparents, their other people's parents. >> several chinatown businesses also say the influx of security in the neighborhood caused them to lose a lot of revenue, despite the momentum surrounding apec. >> guilty on all counts. a jury convicted the man charged with attacking paul pelosi last year, david depape, showed no emotion as a judge read the verdict in san francisco federal court. he faces up to 50 years in prison when he's sentenced. that's scheduled for next month. depape

which led to one of the boys stabbing his brother with a small kitchen knife. the victim died at the hospital. authorities say there was no negligence. no charges will be filed against anyone involved in the family, will not be publicly identified. >> new at six, a lawsuit filed by the victims of the 2019 gilroy garlic festival shooting has been dismissed. a county judge made the decision after hearing arguments in the case this week. the wrongful death lawsuit claimed the city, the gilroy garlic festival association and the security company failed to protect visitors. a gilroy administrator applauded the latest ruling, saying as tragic as the day was, they did the best they could. and according to our media partners at the mercury news, the victims plan to appeal. >> alameda county district attorney pamela price is fighting back against the effort to kick her out of office with a new campaign called protect the win. in an interview with abc7, price called the recall effort false narratives by election deniers. she says it's part of an attack on, quote, progressive
