wow. i cannot wait to see more of that remarkable footage. >> it does look spectacular. >> looks like one whale of a time. >> oh baby. americans are counting down to thanksgiving. we've got everything to keep an eye on, including shopping, the travel forecast and the weather. first the israel/hamas war. israel forces are searching the hospital complex in gaza. matt gutman is near gaza with the latest. good morning, matt. >> reporter: good morning, george. we are at the forward operating base for the 188th armored brigade operating inside gaza. that's where israelis located the bodies of two of the hostages. they are searching for more bodies. a furious search continues around the al shifa hospital. israeli troops saying they found a tunnel and multiple weapons caches. the israeli military saying it's recovered the body of a second hostage. 19-year-old noah marciano. it comes hours after israel said they found the body of another

hostage, a 65-year-old grandmother. that as israel begins the third day of what it's calling a targeted search of gaza's al shifa hospital, with thousands of palestinians sheltering inside. the israeli military releasing this video saying it shows a hamas tunnel shaft, then revealing how close it is to the hospital. troops also showing this small arsenal. this soldier lifting the tarp. >> this is where they choose to hide everything. >> reporter: hamas denied operating command centers at the hospital, but overnight secretary of state blinken telling our david muir that the u.s. is confident there are hamas tunnels under the hospital. >> what we know and based on information we have, as well as information that the israelis have, is that this has been the practice of hamas, to use the civilian infrastructures. >> reporter: inside gaza a deepening humanitarian crisis as the world health organization says more than half of all hospitals in gaza are no longer functioning. those that are still open

overflowing with the wounded and forced to work with dwindling supplies. our team outside one of the hospitals in the south sending us these images. and new video showing these displaced palestinians waving those id cards to israeli troops making their way to southern gaza on broken roads past splintered trees and the ruins of residential neighborhoods. israel dropping leaflets wednesday in southern gaza, where hundreds of thousands from the north are sheltering, warning civilians to flee certain areas, signaling that its ground offensive may expand south. to understand the palestinians who are in this south, where it's been bombed, no longer feel safe, listening to the israeli military. even in the south, places are supposed to be safer, but is apparently not. so it is safer. it is the area we are bringing and allowing an pushing more humanitarian aid to come. now according to u.s. and israeli sources, negotiations for a hostage deal are on going. they are intense. we understand there is a

disagreement inside israel's defense cabinet. a portion of the ministers want to accept a deal for about 50 women an children. another portion say they want all of the women and the children and their male family members, about 80 hostages in all. michael? >> all right. thank you so much, matt. we're gonna turn to the first wave of thanksgiving travel getting under way. whit johnson will have how the airlines and airports are preparing for a record breaking holiday season. sam champion is standing by with the weather you need to watch out for. but first, let's go to our transportation correspondent, gio benitez, with trains in trouble on the tracks. gio, good morning. >> reporter: hey, michael, good morning. yeah, that latest derailment involved 218 passengers and 6 crew members on an amtrak train. take a look at this because it happened about 10 p.m. last night near lake michigan just about an hour east of chicago. it was heading to chicago when amtrak says it struck a vehicle obstructing the tracks. incredibly though that train remained upright, which is perhaps why there were no serious injuries.

thank goodness for that. just hours earlier, also in the chicago area, this dramatic scene. a chicago transit authority train crashing into a snow plow that was on the same track. at least 38 people were injured, many of them taken to the hospital. some with serious injuries. at least four of the injured were children. now that crash shutting down service of multiple commuter lines. and breaking news for our viewers in the west. a csx train came into contact with a train in atlanta this morning. eight cars derailed, sparking a fire. we are told no crew members were injured and there were no hazardous materials on board. without a doubt, investigators are going to be looking at these incidents very very closely. >> thank you. tsa said it expects to screen some 30 million passengers over the holiday travel season. let's go to whit johnson at la guardia airport here in new york. it's already begun. good morning, whit. >> reporter: exactly, rebecca. good morning to you.

the thanksgiving travel rush is on right now. the tsa is predicting its busiest holiday travel season ever. about 30 million passengers, as you noted there, expected to be screened between now and november 27th. that's 9% jump from a year ago. the busiest travel days are next tuesday and wednesday. just over 2.5 million passengers likely screened each day. but the peak is the following sunday. the tsa estimating nearly 3 million people will be screened at jam packed airports across the u.s. the holiday travel exodus comes amid growing concerns about a staffing shortage of air traffic controllers. a new federal report out this week calling on the faa to take urgent action following 23 close calls this year. but the airlines insist they are ready, hiring tens of thousands of new employees to help manage the crowds. meanwhile, on the roads, nearly 50 million americans are expected to drive to their destinations. the busiest day will be next wednesday. it's recommended you either

oklahoma city, with some gusting wind, hail, heavy rain. by monday we start to see this developing some characteristics of severe storms. so that's in the deep south. up to this point it has been a problem for smaller areas of the country. starting tuesday into wednesday, it's an east coast heavy rain maker with wind and flash flood potential. we could have 2 inches of rain by the time you get into wednesday. the winds that pull behind this are near likely to be near the threshold with problems with the balloons. okay, george. >> thank you, sam. the latest on george santos. the indicted republican lawmaker announced he will not seek re-election following a house ethics report. he also faces a new vote to expel him from the house. senior congressional correspondent rachel scott is on capitol hill with the details. good morning, rachel. >> reporter: george, good morning. this report was nothing short of explosive. the house ethics committee accusing congressman george santos of blatantly stealing from his campaign to fund a lavish lifestyle full of botox treatment, trips to atlantic city and designer goods. this morning a growing number of republicans now pushing to expel

congressman george santos after a scathing report from the house ethics committee. >> i will take whatever comes my way, the way it comes. >> reporter: the damning 56 page report finding george santos sought to fraudulently exploit every aspect of his candidacy for his own profit, allegedly using thousands of dollars in campaign funds on botox treatment, trips to atlantic city, even to pay his own rent, making purchase at designer stores and on the website on fan known for its adult content. congressman, did you misuse campaign finances? and while he allegedly was cashing in, his campaign didn't have enough money to pay off outstanding debt. one staffer going eight months without a pay check. >> there was just so much misconduct. i thought it was so extensive, so brazen and so bold that we really had to take action and do it quickly. >> reporter: santos already pleaded not guilty to 23 federal charges calling the bipartisan report a politicized smear. he now says he won't run for re-election, but is still vowing

to finish out the rest of his term. regardless of what this report says, is your plan to fully serve, stay in congress, not resign? >> like i said, i'm staying in office for sure. >> reporter: but members of his own party say that's not enough. they want him gone. >> he should be expelled. what he has done is violated public trust, engaged in election fraud. >> george santos is a fraud. he should not be a member of congress. >> reporter: the chair of the house ethics committee plans to file a motion to expel george santos from the house. that would tee up a vote for after thanksgiving in this house. of course, this has come to the floor before and has failed. but after reading this report, more and more lawmakers say they are willing to vote him out. michael? >> he's under a lot of pressure there. thank you. turning to some good news for parents struggling to find rsv shots for their children. thousands of new doses have been released. stephanie ramos is here with details. stephanie, these shots have been in short supply. >> they definitely have, michael. this morning a glimmer of hope

for families as cases of rsv start to climb in parts of the u.s. the cdc just announced the release of more than 77,000 additional doses of the new shot designed to protect infants against severe rsv. millions of babies are born each year, but there's been a shortage of shots because of that. the cdc asking health care providers to prioritize those most at risk and under 6 months. rsv symptoms include difficulty breathing, a cough, wheezing and sometimes a fever. an estimated 58 to 80,000 children under 5 are hospitalized each year with the virus. emergency room visits among young kids have been on the rise. but we are still seeing about less than half the visits we saw at the same time last year, which was an especially early season. respiratory illnesses typically begin first in the southern states and migrate up north. cdc investigation saying there are on going efforts to secure additional doses to meet the rising demand. keep in mind an rsv vaccine is also available to pregnant women

between 32-36 weeks to pass on protection to their newborn baby. george? >> thanks very much. now to amazon's new announcement. starting next year you can buy a new car on the site. hyundai is the first brand. elizabeth schulze has the story. good morning, elizabeth. >> reporter: good morning. starting next year, amazon said you will be able to put a new car into your shopping cart. it will be selling hyundai cars on its phrats form. the company said you will be able to search for the model, trim, other features and say buy it with your preferred payment method on amazon. choose to pick it up or have it delivered by your local dealership. the dealer is still the end seller. but this shows how automakers are trying to meet a growing number of customers who are shopping online for their cars. as part of the deal, amazon said the alexa voice assistant will be built into the new hyundai. you can ask it to play music or update your to do list while you're driving. amazon has already been easing into the auto business for years offering digital show rooms and parts and accessories on its platform. it is expected to expand to other brands beyond hyundai in the future.

vegas grand prix. it's an around the clock operation here. the teams and their drivers just finishing their practice lap around 4 a.m. local time. why so late? because not even ten minutes into the first practice lap last night, what happened in vegas was an ignomus start. one driver appearing to drive over a loose drain cover on the track. you can see his car bouncing right there. race officials had to put up the red flag to stop the practice. dozens of other covers on the track were checked. but vegas is an all night town so things got going again around 2 a.m. local time. no incidents this time around. ferrari having to rebuild the inside of the car. things will really pick up today. practice then qualifying. the show is just beginning. >> thanks so much. looks like a lot of fun. coming up, this should be fun. if you felt that cabin pressure when someone asks you to switch seats on the plane. okay. sam felt it.

but today in court, we were expecting a pretty major matchup challenging this suspension of their head coach. instead though this agreement likely brings maybe the strangest story of the football season to a close, at least for the time being. this morning is the undefeated university of michigan football team prepares for its final two games of the season. >> touchdown, michigan! >> reporter: an abrupt change of heart for the university and its head coach, jim harbaugh, saying they'll no longer challenge the coach's three game suspension in exchange for the big ten conference closing its investigation into an alleged sign stealing scheme. the university putting out a statement saying the conference has confirmed that it is not aware of any information suggesting coach harbaugh's involvement in the allegations. harbaugh was expected in court today to challenge the suspension announcing earlier this week. >> i'm going to talk on friday. just looking for that opportunity, due process. >> reporter: that hearing is now cancelled.

the original three-game suspension handed down by the big ten conference accused michigan of conducting an impermissible, in-person scouting operation over multiple years resulting in an unfair competitive advantage. the investigation came in the wake of the team's off field football analyst conner stallion's recent departure. espn sources say that stallion bought tickets to more than 30 games for teams on michigan's schedule. he then paid people to attend the games and record coaching signals. now, the larger ncaa investigation into these cheating allegations is still ongoing. the suspension though does mean jim harbaugh will not be on the sidelines for their upcoming rivalry game against ohio state, who is also undefeated. has championship implications to it. >> like number one and number two, right? >> basically. >> going to be interesting. thank you very much for that. and coming up next, feeling the cabin pressure to switch seats on the plane? gio brings back here with the big debate.

>> reporter: hey, george, good morning. the tsa is predicting its busiest holiday travel season ever. it all kicks off today. as you noted, there are about 30 million passengers expected to be screened between now and november 27th. that's a 9% jump from a year ago. the busiest days for air travel before thanksgiving are next tuesday and wednesday. just over 2.5 million passengers likely screened each day. the peak is the following sunday. tsa estimating nearly 3 million people will pass through security at airports across the u.s. the holiday travel exodus comes amid growing concerns about a staffing shortage of air traffic controllers. a new federal report out this week calling on the faa to take urgent action following 23 close calls this year. but the airlines insist they are ready hiring tens of thousands of new employees to help manage the crowds. meanwhile, about 50 million americans are expected to hit the roads. the busiest time to travel will be next wednesday.

they're gearing up for this weekend's huge formula 1 race. we're going to go back to will reeve, who is on the scene. good morning, will. i'm talking so fast i'm like one of those race cars. >> reporter: you are, michael. good morning again. you're like a pit crew who had a stumble changing tires. that's what they do here on pit row. this is the nerve center of the f1 race. the drivers come in, change the tires, do all of this crazy stuff. as they getting ready for this las vegas grand prix, it is an unbelievable scene. it's an around the clock operation. overnight a major bump in the road ahead of the first ever formula 1 las vegas grand prix. the first practice session cut short after nine minutes when a loose drain cover caused the ferrari to bounce perilously on the track. two other cars also damaged. >> just hearing that this session will not be reviewed. >> reporter: it was first to be the driver's first chance to test drive the brand new track

ahead of this weekend's race. >> red flag. it won't be the last. >> reporter: that the track is brand new leads to so many unknowns for the drivers as they get ready here on pit row to head out there for the very first time. red bull driver and three time champion max verstoppen has been critical of the hype surrounding this race. >> it's vegas. it is focused around the whole entertainment side of it. it is important to understand that it's not always like this. it's part of the championship. >> reporter: this race just sort of part of the vegas experience, right? there's always a show in town. this is the show. >> now it is here. yes. >> reporter: there's plenty at stake here for the host city. organizers estimate up wards of $400 million and the better part of a year spent on turning the strip into a race track. the big question this morning, will the show go on? the show will go on. that practice lap then did resume overnight.

20 drivers in the world. >> these opportunities only come around once in a life time. i have worked so hard for it. >> it takes commitment and physical endurance to compete at this level. even though you're sitting in a car, you have to be in peak physical shape. >> one thing that's misunderstood about the sport is how physically demanding it is. we're pulling over 5g. you would never believe how strong your neck needs to be to withstand the force. >> driving at speeds upwards of 200 miles an hour comes with great risk. f1 is one of the most dangerous sports in the world. how do you manage the risk, mentally? >> i feel like we don't quite process the risks because we've been doing it and it becomes so natural that you just feel at home, you feel comfortable. maybe a bit too comfortable at times. >> but the drivers also worry about the cars, with teams spending up to $135 million a year developing it, adding pressure to perform.

it's been a rough go. you had a few accidents. i guess it's been estimated this season is costing about $4 million to repair your car. what is your feeling when you've had an accident? >> you're not happy with yourself because you left the team to rebuild a car overnight which is the worst feeling as a driver because you don't want to leave them in that position. there's always frustration when it's not going the way you want it to. you always have to make sure you're moving forward and learning from your mistakes. >> what are you hoping to learn between now and the end of the season? >> i have learned a lot. we've been paying much attention to detail. the aim is just to keep trying to be more consistent. >> you have another opportunity to prove yourself coming up. vegas, baby. >> i didn't think it was possible to have a race on the strip. the track is looking good for us. >> while logan has his eye on vegas, mine is on this go kart track. >> we're gonna have some fun. >> no. i want you to give me everything you've got. do not take it easy on me.

as they see it, the only barriers to entry into racing in formula 1 should be the requisite skill, courage and, as i found out firsthand, the need for speed. it's been nearly 50 years since a woman has raced in formula 1. but now this group of women is trying to change that. they're part of the f1 academy, an all-women's racing series aimed at developing promising young female drivers. f1 academy managing director susie wolff raced for over 20 years. >> anticipation of female drivers in any discipline in sports. we've never gone past 5% in the last 25 years. we want to use this academy to inspire the next generation. ♪ >> reporter: one of f1 academy's fresh faces is bianca. the 18-year-old said she loves being part of a sisterhood of speedsters. >> growing up i'm always racing against boys. my always would feel sort of
